The service was very good. And the food was also very good, but I found the tilapia to be very tough in its delicious curry sauce. The front door makes five very loud alert beeps every time it opens. I cannot believe I havent tried this place earlier!! I had the chicken tiki marsala, and wow. The amount of flavor in this dish is unbelievable. Every bite is packed with a creamy indescribable flavor. You just need to try it yourself. I took other people suggestions and got the dinner portion even during lunch time, and I'm glad I did, but I was so stuffed! Only get this if you can eat a lot during lunch hours. We did the $3 upgrade as well, and it was absolutely divine! It made me so happy to be able to have different flavors with each bite since there were so many sides. One side I truly did not care for was the rice pudding dessert. It was too sweet for me and contained spices I didn't enjoy. My only con about this place would be is that they don't really explain things to first time customers. The server asked us if we wanted the entree style or lunch style and we opted for the entre thinking that was the $3 upgrade. However, you could see our disappointment when all we were brought was rice and a large curry dish for each of us. We quickly explained what had happened, and they fixed it right up for us. So perhaps that was on us, but it would be nice to explain the differences since we did let the owner know it was our first time here. read more

This is the worst restaurant experience I've had in quite some time. In hindsight, I so wish we hadn't eaten there. I can't imagine why this place has an average of 4 stars! My husband and I had forgotten our jackets in the car and it was getting a bit nippy last night. We noticed many people sitting outside the restaurant. We got the last available table for two inside. It was awkwardly placed right next to the cashier desk and where the wait staff comes out from the kitchen. People were rushing all around me. I was very uncomfortable, so when another table opened up, we had them move us. The waitress was very nice, but didn't seem to know the menu. When we asked for an order of papadum (papad) she said they don't serve that item. We described that they are an Indian lentil cracker that comes with mint sauce. She again said they don't serve them. We ordered our food and waited, waited, and waited. Many people were coming in picking up take out orders, which they seemed to prioritize over seated patrons. Then I noticed the table next to us eating papad with mint sauce! I showed our waitress and she said she knew that the item was papad and that she didn't understand that's what we wanted as she was new. Geez! After about 40 minutes of waiting for our food, my husband asked the man who seated us if he could check on our food. I then went to the restroom and noticed it was filthy. Wet, soiled towels were on the floor soaking up whatever liquids were on the floor. Yuck! There was no soap to be had. At that moment I thought of walking out, but we had already been there an hour and we were hungry. Big mistake! They had the front door open I would imagine so the waitresses could bring out large orders of food to the front patio tables. However, it was a breezy 58 degrees outside and so cold in the restaurant! The man didn't come back to let us know about the food. So my husband asked our waitress and she said the kitchen was very backed up. Again we waited and my husband flagged down the man again asking where our food was. It turned up about five minutes later. It was not hot, but lukewarm. All dishes lacked flavor and were very bland. My saag paneer had hard chunks of paneer cheese in it, which was odd. At the time I was thinking maybe they pan fried it before putting it in the dish. Or...was it sitting out drying up before being put into the saag? My husband ordered lamb tikka masala and aloo kauli medium spice level. Both dishes were mild with no spice or complexity of flavor. You could not taste the curry in their food. The sauces were more like a gravy and not the rich, complex Indian sauces we normally get in other restaurants. All dishes lacked salt and were not tasty. The portions were very small for the price and there wasn't much meat in the chicken korma or lamb tikka masala. The aloo kauli was a tiny portion. I noticed a couple walked out without being served their food after they were there quite some time. Another table of people who came in before us got their food after us. The waitresses were telling people that came in to be seated that there would be quite a wait for their food. I wish they had told us that as we wouldn't have dined there. We only got our food after asking and then complaining three times. There were many other food options in the area of the restaurant. I wish we had eaten elsewhere. I felt kind of sorry for the waitresses as they were working very hard and seemed stressed out. However, our waitress never came back to check on us until she gave us the check. She apologized for not checking on us, but it was too late for complaining as we were disgusted with the place and just wanted to get out of there! I did tip her, but not as much as I normally would have. She really should've made an effort to know the menu, been more attentive and checked on our food for us . Also after we got the food, she should have asked us how everything was. After getting home several hours later I started getting a tummy ache. It was with me all night and I slept poorly. My stomach still feels very upset. I will never eat in a restaurant that has a dirty bathroom with no soap again. If the bath room is dirty imagine what the kitchen looks like? Unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to expectations. I had the fish and prawn. It was not good. It came with dry, flavorless pieces of salmon and overcooked shrimp. The rest of it was comprised of bland, flavorless vegetables. It was hard to eat, honestly. I took the remainder home because I absolutely refuse to waste food. Yeti's Chicken Tikka the best dishes I have had in Davis! I have been here plenty of times and I always have the tikka masala. It's just so rich, deep with creamy flavor. I swear I taste mushrooms in the sauce, but the owner assured me there is none. I have no idea what gives the tikka masala sauce such a deep umami flavor. Now be warned, that lunch portion is about 3 pieces of chicken with some rice. I recommended getting the dinner portion and spend $3 extra to give the Thali special. The special includes some soup, naan (a must for dipping into the sauce), potatoes, rice, rice pudding for dessert, and some other tasty things I can't remember. It's so worth it. The veggie tikka is also a great option as you can a variety of veggies in the beautiful sauce. The other dishes at Yeti are good too, but they are not as memorable as the Tikka. Having lived in Davis for over three years, I had been dying to eat at the Yeti. I've never had Nepalese food, but I love Indian food. We got the couples' meal, a three-course dinner for two. I'm not a fan of alcoholic drinks, and they let me substitute mango lassi. It was the best I've had, so full of fresh flavors and a creamy yogurt goodness! Unfortunately, we only got a couple of pieces of naan, and in my world, one can never eat too much naan. At least we chose well in deciding to go with the garlic naan - your breath ends up smelling terrible, but oh my tastebuds were living the dream! The meat entrees were disappointingly small servings. Amongst the wide array of food we were served though, we definitely ate our fill and had leftovers. As for the courses, we enjoyed a well-seasoned crunchy cracker with an orange dip, then a plate of dumplings, chicken pieces, and deep-fried shrimp, followed by the main entrees and rice, along with a sweet rice/milk soup (?) for dessert and fried, sweet balls of dough. Sitting out on their enclosed patio on a lovely fall evening was quite pleasant, minus a few pesky flies. Sometimes there are a group of homeless citizens who frequent the plaza that this restaurant sits in, just so you know. Yeti will forever be my favorite restaurant in Davis. During my last two years of undergrad at Davis i came here at least once a week because it was so amazing. I honestly haven't really had much here aside from the tikka masala, samosas, naan, and mango laasi because all of these have been so good that I keep getting them over and over again. The tikka masala is by far the best tikka masala I have ever had in my life. It is rich and creamy and has just the perfect amount for one meal. The chicken in the tikka masala is well cooke as well. After moving away from Davis I have been in search of a place that makes chicken tikka masala as well as Yeti does but sadly no other place has lived up to them. The samosas are also incredible. I typically get them as an appetizer and they have an incredible spice mix that they put on the outside of the samosas. The naan and mango laasi are of course good but not particularly unique. Service is typically great as well. After a few times they knew exactly what I ordered and had it quickly ready for me. There has only been once when I was with a group with 12 people where service was very slow. Other than that all my experiences have been impressive. The atmosphere is also quite pleasant. It is usually relatively quiet with music playing and the entire restaurant smells amazing. No trip to Davis is complete for me without a stop at Yeti. It is an incredible restaurant that I would gladly recommend to anyone. read more

Ate lunch here a couple days ago with my boyfriend and we were seated right away. (Not knowing they close at 4pm everyday for break) they sat us a little before 3:30 and still gave us great quality food and service even though we did cut into their lunch which I felt so bad but they were so nice and assured me that it was okay and still have us great service. For the food, SO FREAKIN GOOD! We are coming back for sure. We ordered so much and everything was amazing but what stuck out to me is the veggie momos with the hot dipping sauce. This is a great place! The saag paneer had a perfect balance of spices and was fantastic with the thali accompaniments. The mixed pickles were deliciously salty and full of all the right spices. I tasted several other dishes as well, all of which were great. It does seem like the quality of the food is a little inconsistent--the first round of Kabul royal naan my family ordered was good enough that we ordered seconds, but the second round was quite undercooked. That said, the food was mostly so good that I'd say it's definitely worth it, especially considering the reasonable prices. I'm not fully vegetarian, but I noticed that there were a lot of vegetarian and vegan options. The options on the menu had good descriptions, so it was easy to find something that appealed to me. The servings might have looked small-ish if I hadn't gotten the thali accompaniments with my saag paneer, but I ended up taking some of the saag paneer home and didn't finish most of the accompaniments. I'm usually a medium-to-big eater, though I did have bits of other dishes also. My spice tolerance is solidly medium, and none of the dishes were anywhere near too spicy for me (except for the non-mild hot sauce), though you could probably ask for them to be made spicier if you're into that. The service was also really good. We were eating fairly late, so the place was pretty empty, but it still says something that our water glasses were filled very soon after they emptied and our server came by to check up on us several times without being intrusive. We were told that there would be a bit of a wait for entrees because they had gotten a lot of online orders for takeout, but the wait was actually not too long and our appetizers came out very quickly. I'd call ahead if you're concerned about time. The interior of the restaurant was pleasant. The art was nice, and the table was a sturdy dark wood. The lighting wasn't harsh, but it wasn't dim either. You can catch glimpses of the kitchen through a small window in one wall. The interior was relatively small, but the tables were well-spaced. All of the staff wore properly-fitting masks. They do require masks for entrance, but there is seating inside as well as outside. Their bathroom was clean. The main area of the restaurant was clean as well--the only dust I noticed was on the fake rose on the table, which was tasteful as such things go. The air in the restaurant smelled just enough of spices to excite the senses. I would give Yeti Restaurant a 4.5 if I could, just because the slight inconsistency in the quality of the food takes it down from a 5. I attempted to eat here just now. I was really looking forward to it on a drive from Sacramento to Santa Cruz. I sought it out, however, when I arrived, I was met with the laziest and most illogical situation. There was only one customer table, sitting outside, the work staff (three people) were standing talking to each other inside. There were no customers inside. It was hot and stuffy inside and outside was pleasant. I asked if they were open, the hostess reluctantly said yes. Nothing more. I said, "one please, can I sit outside?" I would like to sit outside, the hostess responded that they close at 9:30, (mind you, this was at 8:45) And she proceeded to say inside dining was the only thing open. It was literally 15 steps from inside to outside. They would rather turn down a customer than to open a door to serve them? The closing time was irrelevant. If they had 45 minutes to feed me inside, they could've had 45 minutes to feed me outside. I left completely uninterested in giving business to people who clearly don't want it. There are handfuls of other restaurants to choose from with in a block of this place. Fine with me. Shame on them. read more

When I let the waitress know they were too salty to eat she simply said "oh" ......no apology, no offer to replace or take off the bill. This is my second time coming here. The first time, I came with a friend and we ordered the Chicken Tiki Marsala, Lamb Vindaloo and I think it was some kind of Korma sauce (it's green, it's been a while since we first went..). I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the food was very notable. At that time they had a yelp deal to offer a mango lassi with check in and that was bomb too. This time, we got the Chicken Tiki Marsala which was a hit with both of my friends - it's very creamy, coconut flavor (I'm not a chef, so I can't be sure!), I swear it's so addictive. The Chicken vindaloo was pretty good as well, it's a bit more spicy, has a bit more of a kick and has a lemony kind of aftertaste (according to one of my eating companions). Garlic Naan is always a good start to get introduced to the dish. 1. Service is always great, the staff check in on you often but aren't watching over your shoulder every second. 2. Garlic Naan is great but I would try the plain naan and just use that to finish up the last bits of sauce left in the bowl so nothing is left over. Just a suggestion! 3. Prices are a bit high, portions come in bowls about the size of a fist, but I think it's worth it. Food is flavorful, they give you rice with most of the portions. My companions were super happy with my suggestion and said they would come back with their companions (who are super picky eaters). I was disappointed. I had gotten excited at the thought of Nepalese food which I haven't had for a while. Visiting Davis as we were in town for a wedding - and I wanted to try something not too common. Long and behold - Nepalese food - which I've only had once or twice! We ordered the chicken pakora and the mixed tandoori platter as it was just the two of us. Chicken pakora took around 15-20 minutes give or take. From what I've seen from pinterest posts of chicken pakora, it does seem like it was supposed to be fried to be a darker color - though ours looked like it was fried lightly - light yellow. It was lightly crisped on the outside, and take a bite of it was tender. Was not very crispy of course. Mixed tandoori platter was a sizzling platter. Also...a sizzling disappointment. The only thing that tasted good within the dish, was the chicken which absorbed the flavor. Prawn tandoori - was not cleaned from the inside and just tasted like a regular prawn not flavored too much. It may be because we waited for it to cool off - but, I just could not go through with finishing it. The beef - which I am guessing was the special for the day - as it definitely was not lamb or fish, was cooked too long where the meat was tough to bite and eat. The fish tikka in this was salmon and there was no flavor in it whatsoever besides just being grilled on one side. Layout of the store seemed to be not too customer friendly. The table which held the menus was awkwardly placed near the entrance. Whenever any customers came in or poked their head in, the waitress would go to the front to ask if they wanted to sit inside or outside - when we were there, the answer was usually outside - and then the waitress would awkwardly squeeze pass them to see which table it was that they were indicating. This happened on several occasions for the entire duration we were there. Possibly move that table to the outside - between the door and the little area where the seats are so it would be easier to direct patrons where to sit? Though I do assume it may be because it rains occasionally that they don't keep that in the middle. Overall - don't order the mixed tandoori platter. It was not worth its price at all. After going here are rating this place as mediocre on my instagram - one of my girlfriends recommended the curry here. If I were to visit again, and come back to this place, I may try that instead. But...it'll be a while until I visit Davis again - and I am not that keen on trying this place for that platter for sure. The wait is definitely a bit longer for the platter - as it is sizzling I suppose. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to try this restaurant in our quest to find good authentic Indian food in Davis. And let's just say, we're going to keep looking. I ordered Dal Mahkani extra spicy, which is supposed to be this rich, savory, flavorful Dal. Not only was there absolutely no heat but it tasted as if they ommited spices and seasoning altogether. It tasted like they boiled some lentils and called it a day. My boyfriend ordered Tikka Masala and said it tasted like they just added some cumin to spaghetti sauce. I'm usually fairly forgiving but we couldn't even eat our food, it was that bad. All that was edible were the samosas and Naan. We had to throw the rest out. And maybe they shine on other dishes but they really shouldn't keep things on the menu if they can't make them edible, let alone layered with flavor like good Indian food should be. read more

When it comes to indian food, I consider myself an expert. After living 15 years in Dubai before moving to the US, I tried all kinds of indian food in restaurants and at friends houses as well and can tell when the food is authentic and done with the right ingredients and spices. I ordered butter Chicken. The flavour was OK but could be better. I will try another meal in the coming period to see if it would taste better. The best place in Davis to get Indian food. I really like their samosas, momos, combo thali styled meals, and Chicken Makhani. My wife and friends like their tikka masala in addition to what I named. Service is always good, great place for takeout as well. One thing to note is their saag paneer is different than others I've had, perhaps because this is actually a Nepalese restaurant and not Indian (slightly different, hence the momos and other uniquely non-Indian dishes). I eat at Yeti once a week for lunch. Their lunch special is something truly amazing, and I will cry if they ever discontinue it. It's a fantastic deal, both in quality and quantity of food. Food: ZERO complaints. My usuals are paneer tikka masala, chicken vindaloo, dal soup, chicken momos, samosas, pakoras and saag paneer. All are fantastic. Spiciness: Food can vary in spiciness. I used to only order medium. 50% of the time, there was no spice. 40% of the time, it was perfectly medium. 10% of the time, it was almost too spicy. I've recently adjusted up to spicy, and it seems more consistent. Just waiting for that one time it's too spicy to eat... Service: Can be slow, but staff are friendly and competent. Most of them know my order by now, which is always nice. Momos do take longer than curry dishes because they have to steam. Staff will let you know that when you order it. Decor/atmosphere: It's very simple. The wall art is a bit random and starting to fade. Nothing wrong with that, but just something to be aware of. Never excessively loud, even when the dining room is full, so that's a huge plus to me. read more

I got the Chicken Makhani Curry--it was so delicious, and the chicken was tender. My boyfriend got the Saag Paneer with the extra dishes (naan, soup, curry, and dessert), and he really enjoyed it! What I ordered: - chefs special lamb curry - paneer saag - rice - garlic cilantro naan The chefs special lamb curry was my least favorite out of everything I ordered. It's bright red and kind of reminded me of Chinese char siu sauce in both look and taste. It was kinda sweet but vinegary, but since I asked for it to be hot, it was a little spicy. Unfortunately portion sizes here tend to be on the smaller side, and even though the lamb was around $15, there was hardly any meat. The paneer saag had a good flavor, but I couldn't find any individual chunks of the paneer. They were all crumbled into the sauce itself, which was a little disappointing. The garlic cilantro naan was definitely the highlight of the meal, and it came out crispy and piping hot with a nice garlic flavor. I think I'd rather go to Kathmandu instead, as their portions are bigger with relatively similar price. read more
