I visited YG Bicycles about two weeks ago because I found they had Shimano chains in stock. I gave the salesperson the model of the chain and the model of the bike. She handed me the chain she said was correct out of a drawer behind the counter and I paid her over $50 plus tax in cash. Today, I looked up the chain required again and found the model I was given was for an 11-speed bike, not my 12-speed mountain bike. I hadn't opened the box so I called to ask YG if they had the correct chain since they had sold me the wrong one. The woman answering said "yes." I drove over and explained I was the one who had just called. She turned to the mechanic working on a bike who shook his head and mumbled something in Spanish. She said the problem was that they don't do exchanges or refunds. "So, I'm out $50 for a chain I can't use," I asked. "Yes." I stood there in disbelief until the mechanic started up in Spanish again. We got into an argument in Spanish (I've been bi-lingual since birth) over who made the mistake, which model of chain was given. I asked him if he was there when I bought the chain and he said "no" (how would he know what I asked for?) I said I would never come back into this shop again and he could not expect a good review. He said "no importa." And told me I should learn how buy things. I told him he should learn how to give service and left with my parting expletive (in English; I didn't learn foul Spanish words from my parents). So, if your looking to buy junky bikes (no decent brands here) in a poorly lit, cramped hole-in-the-wall bike shop with virtually non-existent, dismal, rude service (the first visit to buy the wrong chain wasn't great), YG Bicycles is the place to shop. read more

Found out about this place by my longtime former neighbor. I called and left a message to see if they could adjust my daughter's seat on her Huffy this same afternoon so she could go bike riding later. The owner called me back within half an hour and also sent me a text to stop by as soon as I could. WOW - Was I impressed with their customer service! I was there within 45 minutes and the husband adjusted the seat perfectly and had my daughter sit on it to make sure it was the right height. Quick, efficient and friendly! To top it off, they didn't even charge me so I decided to buy some oil for our bike chain to support them. They are an old-fashioned mom and pop shop and are so kind-hearted. If I can give no stars, I would. Unfortunately my boyfriend and I had the worst experience here. We came here to trust them with a bike we bought, to change the big sprocket out to a smaller one. We understood that the bike rides differently with a smaller sprocket, as we have other bmx bikes with small sprocket. We take it home, ride it and it rides as if it were in first gear on a mountain bike. We take it back and ask if they can take a look at it and ride it to see what was wrong with it. They refuse to look at it and say nothing's wrong with it. We try to explain we have other bikes similar that do not ride that way, and he was basically yelling at us at that point saying the small sprocket was the problem. We go to another bike shop, and the owner there says whoever built this bike for you built it WRONG!!! He lets us know what we needed to fix as well. Mind you, my boyfriend paid almost $400 here to switch out most of the parts and the small sprocket. We take it back here once again, tell the owner what's wrong with it, and he still refuses to fix it, refuses to give us our money back, and ignores us the whole entire time. The whole visit to the shop, we had to talk to the lady & daughter there. There's also no reason to yell at a customer and throw a fit in the shop. They owners were clueless on what they did wrong. So much for knowing about bikes! Don't bring your BMX here they don't know what they're doing. read more

Nice local family own shop. Only one star because first visit was great. Very nice experience. Second time, owner was a jerk. I went back because his product did not perform as he had promised. Blame me for the faulty product. Total different person. Not friendly and kind as I experience my first time. I ended up buying some other items but that will be it. Will see how product last. I love to shop locally but his attitude just lost a good customer. If you buy, buy at your own risk. Owner does not appear to like it when his product goes bad. He rather blame the customer than man up and fix the problem. So I guess Amazon will be my source from now on. Its a shame. read more

Walking in I was greeted by the nicest team (Yeni, Felix, and of course Andrea). A true hole in the wall, family owned bicycle shop, that truly cares about customer service. I walked into the store knowing what I wanted in the back of my mind, and they helped me reach the look I wanted within the price range I had told them. They gave me plenty of options, options that could be upgraded, and things that can be kept simple. They took their time to explain to me what would work and what wouldn't, we tested some sizing to insure my overall happiness of my future bike to be. Felix gave me a couple of upgrades that would ensure a smooth and fast ride. I gave them a couple of days to build the custom bike that I desired, and they finished it in a time manner. Unfortunately I was out of town so I wasn't able to pick up the bike the day it was assembled, so I picked it up the next day. I contacted them telling them that I was going to be able to get it after store hours, and they were more than willing to wait for me until I came an hour past closing time!! What store does this, only YG!! They told me to go for a test ride, and I was more than happy, as I rode around the parking lot with the biggest smile- the bike was smooth, fast, and light as they promised. OKAY SO, I had the best experience at this shop. I've been to a few bike shops in the North Hollywood/Van Nuys/Studio City area and none of them gave the kind of service that this shop did. Tons of their bikes are on sale and the prices are pretty good. My boyfriend and I went in just to look and ended up getting two bikes because they gave us a great deal. They made sure my seat wasn't too high and sawed off a piece so that it was perfect. Also since we bought alot of stuff we got free water bottle holders. Definitely recommend and definitely going back for any bike needs. read more

I bought a matte black fixie from YG bikes last evening, and had such a great experience with them. So refreshing to see a family owned and operated business, with such dedicated and passionate people. At one point there were literally 4 people working on my bike at once, customizing it down to the slightest detail. My new bike is literally completely customized and my own creation that they helped bring to life. I would recommend ANYONE to them, as they are not only knowledgeable about the bike world, but also knowledgeable about customer service. Every time was greeted super friendly by the owner, always a pleasure talking to him about bikes and life experiences. A real diamond in the valley of Sylmar. Go in for a flat inner tube come out extremely satisfied with a new inner tube, greased up chains, aligned brakes, and inflated tires. Really goes above and beyond to take care of his customers!! Just discovered this family business today. I was riding around and my tires were pretty worn out so I thought I'd stop and ask prices at this location. The owner works full time at the store and he was the most professional and sweet man. He changed my tires for a pretty good price and after finishing his work in my bike; he checked my brakes and tuned them up. Before heading out, he saw I was out of water in my bottle and he offered me one from his personal fridge. That showed me a lot about his character and passion for his shop/customers. My husband and I went here to buy a first bicycle for our grandson because the store got great reviews. In our haste to purchase a bicycle in time for our grandson's birthday, we bought a bicycle here without shopping around or doing any research. After my husband looked up the manufacturer of the bike on the internet, we found out that we way overpaid for the bike, and it was missing wheel pegs and the owners manual. When we went back to the store, the sales associates were VERY rude. They said that the bike did not come with wheel pegs or an owners manual, even though my husband showed them the bike manufacture's website. After much strong discussion back and forth, they gave us only 2 of the 4 wheel pegs that were supposed to come with the bike, no owners manual and refused to take the bicycle back. We will NEVER do business with them again, and strongly recommend against shopping there or doing business with them. read more

I have been coming to this bike shop since it opened and I love to tell you that it has the friendliest atmosphere that I have seen in a bike store/shop. Everyone is welcoming and helpful and will strive to give you the best with great prices! Very reliable if they are working on your bike. I was even able to put a bike on lay away when times were tight. With bike rides they organize for the whole family that you may like. let me start by saying that i was happy to support local bussiness. i had purchased many accesories for my bikes. even purchased a bike for my wife. and they were nice everytime. so what happened next was completely unexpected and uncalled for. had purchased a phone mount for my road bike. after i took it home, spoke to owners daughter over the phone to explain situation. she game me solution. told her id try try. did not work.next day stopped by shop to possibly exchange it. told owner that part didnt work. he told me that i had told his daughter that id work. he later rudely said no refunds/exchanges. showed me sign, which wasnt in clear view. i did not expect that kind of treatment from him because he knew me from all the times i had visited his shop to purchase accesories. and he behaved this way in front of his young daughter. before i left store,told him i will never shop there again. he said thank you. i would rather drive further to other shops than shop here. their merchandise is not good quality. no mechanics on site. other shops have guys that actually ride(pedalers west) and can give professional advice. so if youre looking for a good selection of bikes/clothing/shoes/pedals etc.. dont shop at yg. there are plenty of better shops than them. read more
