We had to revisit Yi Xin this past week since they weren't offering their crab dishes when we first went in April. Wow, has it been that long already? So, to get to business, the curried crab was the primary reason for our foodie adventure. It was unbelievably yummy! After speaking to the wonderful serving staff, we discovered that Yi Xin makes their own curry. It makes a huge difference in flavor and texture of the curry. OMG, I'd try their curry with any of the dishes on the menu. The set price in December 2023 for curry crab was $72. There's a selection of different types of whole crab preparations ranging between $68 - $75. We also tried a couple of other dishes as recommended on Authenticity Charles via YouTube. Although I absolutely LOVED the thin egg noodles served with the Mapo Tofu, the Mapo Tofu itself lacked the intense and spicy flavor I associate with this dish. Definitely a 5/10 rating. The pork cheek chow fun that Charles raved about looked good on YouTube, but the flavor was bland, keeping in mind that the curried crab was the last dish delivered to our table. What I truly enjoyed was the Beef with black bean sauce and that curry crab! Really worth it, and both dishes were delicious. We'll have to return to try their curry in other dishes. And naturally, we had the teddy bear milk tea. My only disappointment with the teddy bear tea was that because we ordered it without ice, we had to either pay $2 more for our jar to be filled, or take less tea. Seriously? This owner is pinching pennies in the wrong place after we've coughed up more than $70 for a single dish. It's rather disappointing. read more

This is authentic Cantonese food that brought back childhood nostalgia. They have typical Hong Kong style noodles, rice dishes, and many ways to order Dungeness Crab. They also have HK style ice tea which was very refreshing. We ordered the Egg and Shrimp Noodles and the Thai style pork cheek. Both were so good and satisfying. I think the pork cheek appetizer here is a must try so don't miss out! The decoration in here is really cute by mimicking the old school Hong Kong scene. Service was quick and efficient. There are ample parking spots in this plaza but it does get busy during peak lunch time hours because the parking lot is shared with many popular restaurants. read more

Menu/language: it looks unprofessional and unauthentic to mix up traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese fonts in the store banners and menus. They need to proofread their written materials. Typos for beef chow fun is not acceptable. Just this alone makes me want to label this restaurant as phony and pretentious especially with nostalgic decor mimicking a Hong Kong style cafe. (As a Hong Kong-er I will gladly help, let me know. I can save your menu but you will have to save your food. ) Food: if you had actual Hong Kong style food, this place is lackluster in terms of flavor. Miles behind other Hong Kong style cafes on island such as kukui cafe for example. Kukui is already expensive nowadays so I am holding this standard of price-food quality for any Hong Kong style cafes on island. baked pork chop over rice: lack flavor, underbaked. Their interpretation for this dish is with added cheese, thin pork chop, and plain rice with frozen carrot/pea mix. This dish is a staple in Hong Kong style cafe but this place doesn't do it right. Won ton noodles: soup tasted watered down. Overcooked noodles lost bounce. No chili oil in house at all. Red flag for a supposed authentic Hong Kong style won ton noodles. Plating looked messy; won tons were only okay. Iced milk tea with bear: complete gimmick. Mason jar was filled with mostly ice, and the bear was basically ice too. Milk tea tasted super watered down. Service: Chinese lady kept taking any seemingly unused utensils from my table and tossed them right back in their prep bins. No chili oil. They made sure to drop the check at the end. That's it. Overall paid a little more than $50 including tip for 3 items. Not worth. read more

Yi Xin Cafe is the newest restaurant in Market City. The look and food are similar to the previous restaurant, but it has a brighter, more trendy vibe. The menu has many of the most popular Cantonese items like shrimp won ton noodles in soup and shrimp fried rice. But there are also unusual choices like Hong Kong or Singapore style curry, pork chop with tomato sauce and cheese on rice, and meat sauce with tonkatsu on spaghetti. Because we went during its soft opening, we decided to try some of our favorite dishes which we use to compare different restaurants. Ong Choi with sambal shrimp paste. This was more subtle than the usual in your face dose of shrimp paste. There's a bit of extra flavor from the sambal. Salted fish and chicken fried rice. The serving is generous. We like that there were little chunks of chicken, plus peas, and lettuce. I thought there should be a bit more salt fish, but again, it was subtle. Sizzling beef with blackbean sauce. A sizzling plate is always fun. It's like a show with your meal. The flavor was good, and there were three colors of peppers, but we thought the beef was sliced too thin. Fried chicken wings with shrimp paste. Again, the shrimp paste was barely detectable. The wings were perfectly plump and moist on the inside and crunchy, crispy on the outside. Singapore style curry chicken and rice. We were told the Hong Kong style curry is a bit sweeter, so we went with Singapore style. It's very flavorful with lots of chicken. The service was very good. The servers were all very helpful and friendly. Although the place was empty when we got there at 6pm, it was packed by 7pm. It did get hectic and loud. We didn't get a water refill and had to wait for takeout boxes and our check. But, still, we had a nice experience. We will come back and maybe try the salted egg yolk chicken wings or house special shrimp fried rice with salted egg. And, the iced milk tea with frozen bear looked like fun. The frozen bear is actually frozen milk tea molded into a bear shape. There's so much on the menu. We must come back several times! read more

Deliciously surprising. First time here. Hubby and I decided to have an early dinner. We arrived around 4:00 pm and the place is surprisingly empty. Located in Market City with free parking is this cute corner gem of a place. I had to try the lemon iced tea w/ the most adorable frozen bear. The tea was light and refreshing and very lemon forward. Loved it. We also got the fried green beans w/ sambal. The beans were seasoned well and still had a crunch to it. The flavors kept me going back for more. It was so good we could just eat that alone. I wanted to have the whole platter to myself. We also tried the beef chow funn. The noodles had the perfect chew w/ just a tad bit of push back that you are looking for. The beef was tender and there was just enough sauce to coat everything. There was a nice amount of sprouts and onions to keep the flavors and crunchiness going. Lastly we tried the salted egg told fried chicken. This was something I wanted to try but didn't know what to expect. The salted egg flavor was nice and light, not overpowering as I thought it may be. The fry on this chicken was magical. They definitely got a winner with this one. Everyone was so polite and attentive. We enjoyed our meal and the service was perfect. I hope more people stop by. It's in the corner opposite foodland in market city right next to where the old Walgreens was located. If you like good fresh tasting food, you'll enjoy this place. read more

When we visit Honolulu (usually once per year ), we will visit this restaurant for dinner. Today, we visited this place for lunch (August 21,2025). We ordered the wonton soup, duck egg flavored fried chicken wings, and black bean butter melon. Food was delicious. The fried chicken eggs have an unusual crispy coating. Service was quick and attentive. Bathroom (men's) was clean and neat. There isn't much ambience. I recommend this place for the well prepared and delicious food. read more

This place had some really good dishes and a couple I didn't exactly like. The walnut shrimp was crispy but just missing some flavor for me. It was a daily special. We ordered the curry crab and it is what they are known for. 74.99 and I don't know I would spend that much on a crab dish. The naan was kind of under done. I like more cooked. The naan did go well with the curry sauce. The curry was made with 30 different spices and was tasty. They give plastic gloves but that was worst as it made my whole glove full of curry. Their other way I could lick my fingers this way it got all over my face. The beef chow fun was yummy. The on choy was ok not going to order this the next time we come. My family is from Hong Kong and we're always on the look out for an authentic "Chaa chan Teng" and when we stumbled upon this one, it was such an expected but wonderful surprise. The food was great, the staff accommodating, and we thought it was a great reflection of a true HK cafe! It was also cute inside with the decor that had all the big districts in Hong Kong displayed. For once, I've found a modern Hong Kong Cantonese restaurant that I actually like and would go back to. I'm not a fan of this contemporary style of Chinese food, but Yi Xin Café has a good menu with some nice dishes for all to enjoy. Despite being freshly open still and very busy with people coming to try them out, I was impressed with the friendliness and service by all the staff. Yes, they were very busy, but they had it under control and properly managed. This is rare for a new restaurant that gets a grand opening rush. I decided to go with the House Special Garlic Prawns. This was a very generous dish of fat, fresh, and very tasty prawns. It was cooked perfectly. I shouldn't have, but I finished the whole dish which was enough for multiple people to share. After, I chose to have their Milk Tea to cleanse my palate from all the garlic and prawn flavor. It was excellent. It was a very enjoyable after meal hot beverage and I think a must if you go there. They do claim to offer some Malaysian and Singaporean dishes, but they are Hong Kong Cantonese takes of supposed authentic dishes. Nothing wrong with this, but when I first heard of their opening, I got excited that there would be true dishes from my childhood in Southeast Asia, only to find it was things like Singapore Fried Noodles, which aren't actually Singaporean in origan. All the same, I'm sure the dishes are good based on my dinning experience. I wish this place the best of luck. They have a good menu with excellent food and very nice service. New restaurant - lot of turnover in that little corner next to where Fun Factory was, so hope they make it. Make a reservation - still new so people still lining up at the door to get in. We had 7pax, no reservation, but they "see what they can do" and managed to get us a table. If you want the curry crab, it needs to be pre-ordered. They are waiting for the tank to come in, but until it does, no spur of the moment crab orders. Bummer b/c that's the whole reason we wanted to go there. Maybe better if that was rendered off a little and crisp up. - SINGAPORE RICE NOODLES - absolutely no taste. Even the lup chong was tasteless. Add sauce from other things or just don't order. - BEEF FRIED RICE - we had to get the sauce on the side, so maybe this is why it was tasteless. But it had so much else going on, you'd think it would would have been better. Couple others enjoyed it though. - SHRIMP CRACKER - nice and crispy, but so bland. No shrimp flavor. We had high expectations for this place because of ambiance and concept. Sadly all three items we ordered were pretty average in taste and not worth the price. -Shrimp fried rice with salted egg: average and we couldn't taste the salted egg flavor or difference it made.. -Sizzling beef with bell peppers and onions: also average and the sizzling was just for show because there's no char taste so there's really no other purpose serving it on that iron plate. Instead, the sizzling caused a lot of oil splatter on the table and our plates. -Thai style pork cheek was one of the better ones as the pork was really tender and something different offered. Not a fan of the sauce though (Thai style?) as it was.. rather interesting.. just had a lot of ginger and spice flavor in there. Service/attentiveness was also lacking. When we sat down, there was not much acknowledgment of giving us utensils and water. The party that came after us got everything right away and the ask to order before us. We got asked 'how's everything' once and it was after we got our check. :( IMO, I think there's room for improvement for the HK style cafe concept because besides the decor and drink menu, theres not much of HK flavor in the food itself. Grand opening week at Yi Xin Hong Kong Style Cafe, we received 10% off. Looking for good Chinese food and thought we tried this new Asian restaurant. A fusion of Asian ethic foods with emphasis on Hong Kong, Malaysian and Singaporean styles. Anytime Cafe at Market City shopping center in Kapahulu is gone and in its place is Yi Xin Cafe. They serve Hong Kong style food with a twist on the usual local Chinese food. It's a nice place- the bathroom is really big and clean and had nice touches inside. A clean bathroom is always a plus for me. The server was nice and very helpful explaining the dishes. She even went back into the kitchen to ask the cook about a dish I had questions about. The menu had rice plates, stir fry prawns and sizzling beef, baked rice or spaghetti and other vegetable dishes. Something interesting was the omelette on rice dishes. I read fellow Yelpers' recommendation on the salted egg yolk chicken wings and was very tempted but decided to try other things. It was just the two of us so we only got 2 dishes - the Thai style pork cheek and the beef chow fun. Oh yeah, we did order the Singapore shrimp crackers too. Everyone was on pointe! Yum! The pork cheeks were so soft and juicy and the accompanying sauce on the side was wow! The sauce had a kind of citrusy flavor and it was spicy. Not super spicy but the heat snuck up on you after. The beef chow fun was one of the best I've had in awhile. It was nice and smoky flavored. The shrimp chips were HUGE! A big plateful of them. So good! The food came out pretty fast. So many Chinese food places are so salty but we thought the food here was seasoned nicely without being over salted. There was so many other dishes to choose from. Very nice cafe. The milk tea has a strong milk flavor and pretty consistent Hong Kong milk tea flavor. The baked pork chop beef spaghetti is definitely better priced than it's predecessor in this location. Though the flavor is a tad more sour than what I am used to. But portions are great! Thanks to Yelp, I found out about this restaurant that is located in the Market City Shopping Center. Made a resie for 7:30pm on a Friday night and upon arrival, it was totally packed with about six ppl waiting to be seated. We waited about 15 minutes for our table to be cleared and cleaned, then sat and quickly ordered. We each ordered what caught our eye on the menu and the waitress suggested the fried chicken wings. That was a great suggestion! The wings came out first. Six crispy, hot, tasty wings were a satisfying appetizer. What was special is the sauce that was under the wings. I think it had salted duck egg in it which really kicked up the flavor and made it unique. After that, the food came out so quickly, one after the other. We had the sizzling beef with black bean sauce (very tender), salted shrimp (it wasn't shelled but I ate shell and tail), Ong Choy, and Singapore style rice noodles. The portions are quite large and it's best to order family style so you can try each other's dishes. I liked this restaurant so much, I'll be going back again in a couple weeks for a birthday dinner. Delicious Salt & Pepper Pork Chops! Very good Beef Chow Fun! Happened to be shopping at Fujioka's and needed to grab take-out for dinner. Knew I would be getting pork hash at Duck Lee but wasn't sure where else to go. Not tasting for Gina's or Earl's. Then we remembered YouTuber Authentically Charles recommended Yi Xin many many times. We were greeted very warmly & quickly. It was Monday afternoon and they had several tables of customers. Salt & Pepper Pork Chops $18.95 were on the specials list. These were very flavorful and crispy and the garlic/jalapeño garnish was great. Also got an order of beef chow fun $15.95 without black bean (as it's listed on the menu). This was a well seasoned dish with plenty of tender beef. The front area has a lot of decor (flowers, statuettes), but it seems to be well maintained and cute instead of dusty and sad. Looking forward to trying some more dishes very soon! read more

Wanted to try the food here because they have Singaporean dishes. Service was GOOD. Five stars: We weren't rushed (since the place didn't get completely packed we sat a bit talking). Server kept asking if we needed anything and kept refilling our water without trying to rush out. Our tastebuds don't lend themselves to spicy so we stayed more within the realms of Hong Kong Chinese, but we loved every dish! Tip - go early. They open at 10:30 and they are at Market City so it gets busy. We sat down at 10:50 and there was also one other table occupied. People started coming in from about 11 and it got busy quickly. We started with the Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Wings and they did not disappoint! Salted egg yolk dishes are very popular Singapore so this was a safe dish for the folks who were not into spicy on our table. The wings more than meet the high standard of crispy outside juicy inside Chinese chicken wings. These were especially juicy, and the flavor from the salted egg yolk sauce made them so tasty! Get these! We then had the fried green beans with minced meat and sambal paste. Absolutely no what the tiny pieces of minced meat were, but they were not the featured item in this dish anyway. The green beans were cooked just right. Crisp but not raw. The was plenty is garlic flavor and a tiny bit of spice, which was just right for me. It was for me a level 3, but our non-spicy person thought it was a level 7 and was starting to sweat. I'm NOT into spicy so I know for the majority it would not be too bad. (The two slices of jalapeños in it had the seeds removed. Only the beans touching the jalapeños were on the hotter side.) Then came the beef chow fun. Very standard Chinese dish but one of the better ones I've had. Very tasty, beef was tender enough, crunchy bean sprouts, some green onions, and perfectly cooked chow fun noodles that were nicely separated and not stuck/clumped together. Noodles were just tender enough, not mushy, and there was enough sauce that they were not dry. Last was the Bitter Melon with black bean sauce since one person in our group loves it and eats it every day. (You can get it with garlic or black bean sauce.) I am NOT a fan, but this was the best bitter melon I ever had. It was not very bitter (no idea if it was that particular melon or how they prepare it) and I actually took second and thirds. The black bean sauce made it very tasty. If you eat it because you like the bitterness then it probably will disappoint, but again I don't know if it was the melon in our dish or if they prepare it to lessen the bitterness. All I know is I could become a fan of all bitter melon tasted like this. There were some awesome looking whole Dungeness crab dishes (9 different preparation styles, including salted egg yolk, and the ever popular chili crab) on the menu (plenty or live crabs their tank) but we weren't into a high priced lunch. There was one table that ordered a crab and the lady made it looked so delicious. We made a comment to that effect and she responded that it was m very good. (They gave her food service gloves, no bib.) We didn't order rice even though it would have gone well with our entrees but there were only three of us and we had four dishes. We ate almost everything. There was only about 3 bites of green beans left over, and we were stuffed. We have already decided to come again to try more of the other menu items, and are planning to bring an additional person so we can order more! read more

I ordered take out. I have yet to try dining inside. I ordered the ONG Choy and that was so good. I'd get that again. Then the sizzling beef was good too but it wasn't sizzling since it was takeout. Ordered the shrimp with salted egg fried rice. It had crunchy rice, I think that's what it was. I didn't tasted the salted egg however I really liked the crunchiness. There was so much flavor on the other dishes I feel like you couldn't taste the flavor of the rice. It was good but no wow factor. Staff was friendly and helpful since it was my first time ordering here. The inside looks clean. I never visited the space when it was Anytime Cafe so I'm not sure if it looks the same or not. Yi Xin Cafe has been on my list for a while ever since I saw their ice bear tea on social media. I finally visited a few weeks ago for lunch, and it was a great experience! The small restaurant is located in the corner of market city shopping plaza and has plenty of free parking (though it can definitely get crowded during peak hours). Service was quick and efficient and they gave us toddler friendly dishes which has nice. Besides the bear lemon iced tea ($7), we ordered the beef chow fun (seems to be a favorite as everyone had one on their table), Singapore noodles, and baked spaghetti with tonkatsu. All the dishes were tasty and authentic Hong Kong style! Portions were decent for the price and it was plenty of food for 3 adults and 1 toddler with leftovers. The lemon iced tea was so fun (though a bit pricey) and I love that the ice bear is also made of tea so it adds more flavor as it melts rather than watering the drink down. I know that they are also known for their crab dishes, so will return another time to try! read more
