Easily one of the best skewer spots I've ever been to. The meat quality is excellent, and they don't skimp at all on portion size per skewer. The appetizers are really good here as well. There's also a really wide selection to choose from, including some more exotic options if you want to branch out beyond the usual cuts. The space itself is small but clean, with a slightly modern interior. Service was attentive. Beef and Cucumber Salad: 9/10 - The sauce in this is so addictive and there's a decent amount of meat. The portion size alone is huge and could easily be shared among 4+ people. Cucumber is fresh and retains it texture despite soaking in the flavourful sauce. Cold Noodle Soup: 7/10: Similar to Korea's mulnaengmyeon. Flavourful broth that pairs really well with the fresh veggies and chewy (in a good way) noodles. read more

This is the best skewer place I've been to, and I've been to a good amount since I'm from Orange County California. Me and my 2 friends couldnt decide which skewer was our most favorite because we enjoyed every single thing we chose on the menu. I am usually not this impressed with food so this review is coming from the heart. My absolute top favorite is: enoki wrapped with pork, beef, chicken soft bone, beef, beef tongue, and the north east salad? (I forgot exactly what it's called lol). Food was amazing. We got the dinner for 4 and we had waaaay more than enough food. Everything had Incredible flavor and tasted fresh. The service was very kind and attentive and the skewer mechanism was a nice change of pace. The only thing wrong with this place is that the area is so sketchy. You have to find street parking and there are so many homeless people everywhere. They didn't harm us directly but you could smell urine and poop just walking from the car to the restaurant. First time doing northern Chinese bbq and was not disappointed. Ordered a combination of skewers, hot/cold dishes. Most of the skewers came with a gear on one end that fits into a track. The track then runs back and forth to automatically rotate the skewers as they cook. Everything I tried was delicious! My friends have been raving about this place for so long saying that it was "the best Chinese food outside of China" and with a statement like that, my expectations were very high. We made a reservation for 5 of us which I think was necessary-- it does get very busy and there aren't a ton of tables. What I love about this spot is that there's a grill on the table that you cook up your skewers yourself! So every skewer is piping hot and fresh. It even has this rotating mechanism to cook the meat evenly. The staff is very attentive and will come by and let you know which meats need to be rotated out etc. My friends did a lot of the ordering, which they did in Chinese, but here are my top dishes we got: -Beef -Lamb - Pork Jowl -Pork with Enoki mushrooms -Chicken Heart -Chicken Gizzard - Beef throat, as listed on the menu but my friend's said that the translation wasn't correct -Big Island Eggplant Everything paired perfectly with a pitcher of beer and don't miss out on their spicy dry seasoning mix that they have on the tables! For the price and quality, my hubby and I highly recommend Honolulu Skewer House. The preset combo for 4 people was plenty of food! And we can eat! We had ample side dishes along with various types of meats, cuts, and marinades. My Taiwanese hubby was worried everything would start tasting like cumin, which has been his experience at other Chinese skewer places. He was pleasantly surprised that the meats weren't overly seasoned with the same sauce. Service was standard - not terrible but not excellent. Just fine. Some downsides: We were sat in the corner which eventually got a bit uncomfortable for us with the heat. Perhaps some fans in that corner may help? Otherwise it was bearable. They have overall good ventilation in there but be prepared to still smell like bbq lol. Parking sucks - but that is to be expected of the area. read more

I believe my type of preference of meat isn't too different than most and the is supposed to be for popular, but the Beef Back Strap was not it for me. I couldn't finish it. Other than that the oysters, zucchini, corn, beef brisket, pork belly, and pork w/ enoki mushrooms were really good! I was looking forward to the Tanghulu but it was really small for $2.99 ea. I super recommend the oysters, corn and pork w/ enoki mushrooms! I liked that it was a grill right in front of us! Tried this place for the first time and I highly recommend... We just moved here in kapahulu and very lucky that we're surrounded by restaurants and small cafe. Anyway, seen this place with long lines all the time A couple of times, we tried sitting in, but unfortunately, if you don't have reservations it will be a long wait till you can seat in since everyone seem to have reservations. The review that she had heard had definitely lived up to my experience that I had there! They skewers were so delicious - we had a variety of different meats ranging from chicken to squid to lamb and everything was so good. What a unique restaurant, just outside of Waikiki. It's small inside and can seat a few small groups, so expect long waits. What you'll find inside is a large variety of meat on skewers to grill on an automated grill on the table. Some of my favorites were the Beef Tongue, Beef, Chicken Thigh and Pork Belly. We also tried the shrimp and mussels, with varied reaction from the group at the table. I think if you like seafood, you will definitely enjoy those. Among all the amazing food here in Honolulu, HSH really stood out with its fun and interactive DIY style! The food was delicious, great service, and I had my Shazam on the whole night for the latest Mandopop they were playing. I recommend the beef tongue, grilled eggplant, and the local specialties like draft beer and Maui pineapples were such a nice treat. They give you that mild Chinese bbq spicy seasoning on the side if you wanted to add to the skewers. My friends took me here and it really hit the spot. They have a great selection of skewers and you can order a set or make your own choices with their a la carte selections. They use the same seasonings for everything (and also have a shaker with more seasoning at the table). So everything has the same note to it but it is a really good seasoning. I loved the flavor but at the end of the night, I felt like I consumed way too much salt and wish I got more rice. Part of the experience is that you're cooking your skewers in front of you and it rotates the skewers for you. I had originally ordered a tofu salad but they gave me a really spicy noodle salad. I didn't want to tell them that I revived the wrong dish because when it came the wrong salad also did look appetizing, so I ate it and my mouth was on literal fire! Then the skewers came. It took about 8min for the skewers except the potato skewers (15min) for it to be cooked through. I took a bite of each one and all of them were spicy!! I'm used to eating Korean and Japanese BBQ which is very delicious and flavorful. Chinese BBQ was just OK to me since everything is covered in five spice and honestly just all tastes the same. It's all the same flavor profile which doesn't make for a fun eating experience. The wine is $16 for a glass which is crazy expensive and sake they require you to buy the whole bottle at $60. I asked for a side of shoyu just to change it up but if you don't grow up eating five spice on all your dishes -- it might be a little lacking.
