There is no sweeter owner on the planet, and no Greek place as lovely as this in the Catskills! I love the gyro, the desserts, the outside patio, the dolmades, the desserts, the fish dishes, the desserts...and did I mention the desserts? Baklava, tiramisu, and this pistachio goodness that comes from heaven! If you find yourself in the Catskills, you must eat here! When you enter, ask, "Is George here today?" and then hope that he is. You will meet a REAL restauranteur, a man who cares about every element of your experience. I like the chicken souvlaki plate, and always start with the small Greek salad that comes with it. But you are just a fool if you don't save room for dessert. Whether you eat the BEST baklava in NY or the chocolate-banana-cream pie, or the pistachio or the coconut cream pie - you will THANK ME because it is a perfect end to a meal! I went there before covid and it was decent. Went back recently and their prices didn't match the quality of the food. I had a stuffed eggplant dish that was mushy and the sauce tasted like a can of crushed tomatoes were poured on it. I paid $17 for this and it was a major waste. Lunch specials in this neck of the woods would be a good idea. I was the only one in the restaurant during the lunch hour. So disappointing. read more

Went here last night on a blind date. Perfect atmosphere. Not intimate but pretty loud. I had the gyro special which is basically a deconstructed gyro on a plate with a salad on the side. Very good. Too much food but whoever complains about that? I will say that the lamb meat on the skewer was not very good and extremely pink on the inside and tough to chew which tells me it wasn't cooked correctly so I didn't eat any more than a bite of it everything else was delicious. My date got the sausage and pasta special. He said it was good. We were more interested in really getting to know one another but I was hungry. Coming back to this restaurant always feels like home! The food is delicious and fresh, the cafe quaint, and the service great. It is simple and hasn't changed in years, which is the GREAT thing about it. Do not need to say more about George - the reviews speak for themselves. You drive too fast and you're gonna miss this place. Tucked away in a small strip mall. On the road between nowhere and I-don't-know-where, is this little gem. It's owned and run by really warm friendly Greek people. (What's Mediterranean people doing in an icy place like this ?) The room is cozy old fashioned. Kinda like someone's private dining room. And the staff could not be sweeter. The food I ordered was very yummy. And fresh. And the dessert was to die for. But the place lost a star for me because it's way more expensive than you'd think it would be. But hey, it's still worth going there for a meal. Yiasou, located in Liberty, New York, is a small Greek restaurant we found, when hungry and in the area, through Yelp. Thanks guys. The Chicken Souvlaki I ordered was preceded by a "small" Greek salad that was closer to entree size in most other places. It was fortune that I showed self control because the main course was equally filling. The greens were fresh and crisp, the olives flavorful, the cucumbers firm and tomatoes sweet. The feta cheese was mild and took nothing away from the flavorful vinaigrette dressing. Being a salad lover I ate heartedly. The grilled chicken, served on sticks had a nicely seasoned smokey flavor. The grilled fresh vegetables, soft and delicious, complimented the rice, which itself was delicious and a goodly portion. I asked for a wine recommendation and was given a Moschofilero. It's a wine grown from Pelloponessian grapes that proved aromatic and flavorful, akin to a Chenin Vognier blend. Our hostess chose well. Ekmek, another recommendation of our hostess, is a rich, delicious pastry covered in syrup and cream, topped with pistachio and almonds. I bet it is highly caloric but a three mile walk on the morrow will end your guilt and strengthen your heart. I topped it off with a strong double espresso. George, the proprietor, is friendly, gregarious and welcoming. The staff, like the owner, is top notch. read more

The wait at 6:30 on a Saturday was a little long but the food was worth the wait. They bring a plate of delicious homemade bread with a butter & oil dish on the side. They also do a fantastic job with the Caesar dressing for the salad. The gyro was a little too well done for me but the souvlaki was delicious. The portions are great. Not too big or small. First things first-I beg you not to "try" this restaurant out on a Friday or a Saturday night. Why, you ask.... Because it is so packed with locals that you will literally spend a lot of time trying to find a parking spot (especially bad in the winter when there are snow piles and people park like morons). By the time you actually get a spot, you may see people gathered outside. They are not just hanging out, they are waiting for a table! This is a very tiny place-don't even think of popping by with more than 6 people after 6 on a weekend-they do not take reservations and it will be a long wait before they can put a table together. If you are brave to go on a weekend, early dinner is not 6pm. It isn't even 5:30. I would suggest getting there at 5:00pm otherwise you will have people standing over you (especially on a cold night) while waiting for a table. Ok,,, secondly, the food is phenomenal!!!!!! Dolmades are fresh and soaked in a lot of lemon. The only thing I wish they would do is have Avgolemeno soup- They occasionally have it in the winter, but they never have soup in the summer. The eggplant app is huge!!!!!!!!! And quite tasty. I've had souvlaki, moussaka, gyros, the haloumki platter, as well as other entrees. But one night, I saw a Greek salad being brought to a friend's table. Since I was getting takeout, I added it on. OMG how delicious!!! It was topped with Beef cooked your way, lumps of feta, beefy red tomatoes, drizzled with a homemade Greek salad dressing (olive oil, vinegar, and???secret ingredients :) ) , and a gorgeous nest of caramelized onions. Dessert- all of them are fabulous. The Ekmek is the best and there are plenty of photos of it on here (it's the pistachio topping custard that has a shredded phyllo bottom that is soaked in a honey mixture.) The coconut pie is divine-seems to have the same custard creme as the Ekmek.... read more

This is the BEST restaurant for 60 miles. The service is fabulous, and George the owner/ chef makes you feel like you are eating in his home. The bread is fresh from the oven and worth the price of admission on its own with the amazing garlic butter. Authentic Greek food. I love the vibe here. The boss is great with customers. He is very accommodating. The food is above delicious. Very authentic. He is pricey but worth it. As you wait for your food the boss will ask if he can get you something to eat or drink while you wait. My dad is Greek and he reminds me of him. I feel like I am back home when I enter Yiasou cafe. If you're in Liberty, your food choices can be limited especially for tasty ethnic food. I lived in Liberty for several years and while the town is one big depressed sinkhole. Yiasou is a gem. The food here is consistently tasty, George the owner is constantly expediting and making sure you get the best service possible. I know business in Liberty can be horribly slow in the winter but sometimes there is a long wait, worth it nonetheless but also closes at 8pm and the city girl in me just can't get with that. A little bit more space and an hour later closing would make Yiasou's perfect. read more

Stopped on a chance on my way through town. The restaurant is cozy and full of families. The staff was very friendly. I opted for take out as do many other patrons apparently. I got the chicken Gyro, which was fine but no different from a Gyro one might buy from a street vender. It was packaged for appearance, not for edibility, so when I stopped to eat I had to take the whole thing apart and put it back together. I suppose this speaks to a generous serving size that overflowed the wrap. All in all a pleasant experience. I would stop again. read more

Looked pretty and service was good BUT the food was not great, the platter of dips, none were great and they all had a word consistency, the tomatosalata looked pre- made and the feta was tasteless, the octopus was just not worth the cost. Have only done take out from Yiasou, and every time I get the Fried Calamari salad and substitute grilled for fried (if it ain't broke...) Delicious! They use good feta, and grill the calamari so it has that delicious charred flavor - but it's never rubbery. So so good. Fairly big portions. Don't forget to try their desserts! They're excellent.
