Saw the great reviews on Yelp and we were staying at a hotel right down the street so decided to check it out. Unfortunately, we were not impressed. Food - ordered the avocado wrap which was pretty good. I added an egg which I thought be in the sandwich but it was on the side. Bourakas were tasty and unique. Greek yogurt was great too. Overall, food was probably a 3.5-4 star. Service - probably what set the tone for the place. We were greeted coldly. Asked if they had any high chairs and the woman pointed to the corner to tell me to bring it out myself if I wanted it. Served coffee but never came by to offer a refill. Never checked In to see how we were doing in the meal. The overall attitude deterred from the pretty decent food. Atmosphere - in a hotel. On a busy street. Probably better options for breakfast. Overall, decent food but horrible service and weird atmosphere. Better places to check out when in Newport. read more

Found this place on Yelp and you know I love checking out the Greek spots in the area. This one is located in a small bed and breakfast inn and is a small family run operation. Love these kinds of places. Another reason it caught my eye is after reading they had my favorite breakfast item ever... bougatsa. Any time I read about a place having Bougatsa I have to go. There aren't many places outside of Greece that serve this specialty. It is a custardy pastry that is usually served for breakfast but it is honestly good at any time of day. It is flaky, sugary, creamy, and amazing. Now before we get to the bougatsa review we came for a late breakfast and ordered a few different things. We started with the greek coffee and the frappe. Both are classic greek drinks. As for the food we ordered the greek yogurt with granola and fruit. We also ordered the greek avocado toast and of course the bougatsa. The greek yogurt dish was simple and a healthy alternative to your typical eggs and bacon breakfast. The fruit and granola was fresh and everything worked in this dish. The greek avocado toast was an interesting take on the american classic. It is served on a pita with an olive tapenade and creamy avocado. It is folded over into a sandwich and it was pretty unique and delicious. As for the bougatsa it was ok. This isn't the traditional bougatsa and is more like a galaktopouriko which is another greek dessert. The phyllo dough wasn't crunchy either and everything was one flavor. The lack of texture was not what you would normally see in Greece. They gave it a good shot here but this Bougatsa missed the mark. It is a very cute clean spot and you can find a good hearty homecooked breakfast. The people are extremely nice in here and it looks like a family operation. The bougatsa recipe needs some work but overall this is a great spot. Definitely come check it out. read more

While the ambiance is delightful and the view from the outdoor deck is pleasant with the partial view of the bay and Cliff Walk and friendly service staff. The breakfast menu is a bit confusing in the manner in which it describes the breakfast options. If you have a section stating the "breakfast options" have fries and toast but not all do then just for the two out of eight options state they come with sides included. Or the wait staff should be able to better explain. Additionally, the bacon was lack luster and not worth the $4 price tag. However, the bougatsa was a delightful option and the omelette was tasty. read more

Peaceful spot to enjoy great coffee overlooking the pond. We had great service. Staff wearing masks and hand sanitizer is provided. This was our 3rd stop on our journey to find somewhere to have breakfast near the beach. Wish we had come here first! You can also BYOB. Highly recommend this gem. read more

It's a real shame that people don't come here very often (in the two times that I've been, we've been the only customers in the place), because they're all missing out on some really incredible, fresh, and homemade Mediterranean cuisine. I always feel like Lena from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants when I visit YiaYia's, because the beautifully renovated new inn it's located in has a decor aesthetic that is reminiscent of the owners' Greek roots. Whitewashed walls, calming aqua details, and lots of natural light make you feel like you're on an island getaway without ever leaving Middletown. A very nice place to dine, and a fantastic job on the renovations. As for the food, it's a paradise for flavorful, healthy Greek food. I adore the Chicken Souvlaki, which stacks juicy, marinated chicken breast on fluffy homemade pita bread. Creamy tzaziki sauce gives a cooling note to the sandwich, and the crunch of fresh peppers jazzes up the entire sandwich, elevating it to the stratosphere of flavor. Be sure to order the Watermelon Salad if it's in season. It's literally watermelon, feta cheese, and basil, but the combination is insanely addictive. We loved the recipe so much that we now recreate it at home on a regular basis. You really have to check out YiaYia's for breakfast or for lunch. The owners and waitstaff are lovely and attentive - they're also very good at accommodating requests for substitutions on food, which was much appreciated. This is one of my new favorite spots, and I hope more people head over here to try their amazing food. read more

We stopped here upon arrival in Newport, and it hit the spot. Super friendly servers and staff greeted us. We arrived at 12:30 and discovered they serve breakfast all day. The coffee is excellent. Discovered this place through yelp and we are very thankful we did! It helped us plan our trips to Newport much smoother. We drive from MA, it's usually around an hour and a half trip, and by the time we get here, we want to start the exploring or hiking or beach combing right away, yet are a bit tired... here's the perfect solution: have breakfast or lunch at this cute place first thing upon arrival, and THEN go on our daily adventures. It works wonderful. The menu has lots of sweet and savory options, portions are good sized to fill you up yet not too huge so you don't know what to do with the leftovers on a hot day. We love the "build your own"omelettes, and waffles and pancakes. We also order the Greek specialties, and so far loved every dish. Coffee here is one of the best in the area (if you do enjoy properly made cup of Greek / Turkish coffee). Id say THE best if the owner happens to make it for you. I gulped down my cappuccino and ordered a second one right away... Very nice and clean both inside and outside. It's also very cute to observe regulars, every time we go there clearly are customers there, who come every day or so, are on a first name basis with the owners and somehow you feel included in a nice warm community... Decor is cute, I especially like that it's not overly "seaside charm", that sort of screams at you in many other spots. Rather a hint to the ocean and nature through choice of colors: bright blue and white, mixed with light wood. Comfortable tables and chairs. Outside seating is nice, yet it gets windy often. I prefer the side terrace rather than the front one, as there are cars passing by. This is also an inn, we didn't stay there yet, so can't comment on that. read more

This little cafe has the cutest and cleanest interior, that really makes you feel like you're close to the beach. Aesthetically pleasing, breezy, and comfy, with accessible outside wrap-around deck seating. (Dogs welcome, too!) This cozy nook has a menu with plenty of authentic Greek foods and traditional breakfast, brunch, and lunch favorites. Downside is small portions, expensive dishes, and potential for young high school kids as servers who easily mix up orders. Food is good and place is lovely, but the price and portion is a bit steep. Wonderful decor, great service, and delicious food! We recently visited YiaYia's cafe during our trip to Newport and it was our favorite breakfast place for the trip. We traveled with our 10 month old and several times we were told "strollers were not allowed"; personally, I think that is a ridiculous rule. As a precaution, I called ahead and inquired if it would be okay to bring our stroller in, and was answered by a hearty chuckle and "yes, and the baby is also welcome!" :) From the moment we arrived we were greeted by smiles. Our hostess recognized us from the call and we all had a great laugh. The decor for the cafe is beautiful and the kitchen is open style. The experience felt like arriving at a a friends home for breakfast. The coffee was great and the food was excellent. Parking is available in a lot for the hotel, which the cafe is a part of. Service and setting were great. Coffee very mediocre. What irritated me was the cost...now I just got a Greek yogurt- which wasn't Greek yogurt and it was tiny- maybe 3/4 of a cup. I asked for the fruit and granola. That amounted to a few slices of banana (maybe 4?) and a similar number of strawberry slices and then 2 tablespoons of granola! That's it for $11 bucks.
