I stumbled across this place while walking to the Yelp Elite event on 10th Street. It was on my way to Beard Papa's, which is desserts and since I hadn't eaten yet, I decided to give it a try. It's hard to find parking in Chinatown but I got lucky!!! I'd never had a rice roll before. I honestly thought it was going to be something like sushi without the seaweed, but it's actually a steamed rice noodle. I chose the shrimp and chive rice roll which the cashier stated it was one of their most popular items. Unfortunately, it just wasn't for me. The texture was very chewy, and I found it extremely bland. The shrimp had a little flavor, but the rice roll itself tasted like nothing. I tried adding soy sauce and Sriracha, hoping it would make a difference, but it still didn't do much for me. I'm glad it only cost about $8 because at least it wasn't an expensive disappointment. This experience made me realize that rice rolls simply aren't my thing. While I can't speak to the rest of the menu, I don't see myself ordering a rice roll again. I did like the some of the decor in they have an upstairs for overflow. If you've never had one before, it may be worth trying to see if you enjoy the texture and style, but unfortunately it wasn't for me.
Amazing chang fen here, with cheap prices and generous portions. They do not skimp on the meat. The jasmine soymilk is rich and has a great floral aroma, but I would actually recommend the original soymilk. Both drinks are very good, but the original lets the nuttiness of the soybean shine even better. Service was fast and efficient. You order through a QR code on the table and pay at the counter when you're done eating.
Get the iced Vietnamese coffee!! Had the perfect level of punch and sweetness. Rice rolls were tasty and steaming hot! Added some chili oil for more flavor but overall solid choice!
My DS was in the mood for Asian comfort food and Yin Ji came highly recommended by a local friend. We ordered congee and Cheong fun. Both dishes were very well-made, but I'd give a slight edge to the congee, simply bc my DS was licking the bowl dry. In fact, he enjoyed it so much that we placed another order to go. Definitely a spot we'd gladly return to next time we're in town.
Had an excellent breakfast at Yin Jin Rice Roll that I would come back for all the time if I lived in Philly. Yin Ji offers traditional Cantonese breakfast options like congee and the namesake rice roll or cheung fun. We visited on President's Day and were quickly seated in the bright, open restaurant. There was a significant crowd at 9:30 AM but the food came out within 10-12 minutes of ordering. The youtiao was fresh with a great balance of crisp exterior and soft interior. It was perfect to eat by itself or by soaking chunks in the congee. The congee was really warming, hearty, and exactly what we needed on a cold day. The pieces of egg and pork were well dispersed in the congee and the ginger, green onions, cilantro, and peanuts all added to the textural and flavor complexity of the dish. The pork was lean rather than fatty which contributed to our overall satisfaction with the dish. Would have this again. The shrimp and chive rice roll was excellent too, with small tailless shrimps balancing out with the chives. The sweetish soy sauce didn't make the rice rolls disintegrate even after sitting for some time. They retained a bouncy chewy texture throughout and were a highlight of the meal. Also ended the meal with a HK Milk Tea which was less thick than I expected but a great end to a great meal. Highly recommend this place and looking forward to my next visit.
My daughter and I came here early for breakfast once morning. We ordered the chicken and corn congee, fried dough and shrimp and chive rice roll. -Chicken and corn congee was thick and had tons of flavor. I told them they had a peanut allergy and they were very nice double checking with me about the peanut oil they used in the congee. -Fried dough was crispy, hot and chewy with great flavor. I loved dipping it in the congee as I ate. -The shrimp and chive rice roll: I agree I felt that the rice roll is a bit thicker than what I'm use to but I felt the shrimp to rice ratio was pretty good and had good flavors. My daughter loved it and gobbled it up! Overall I felt this place was pretty solid. The staff was extremely helpful and nice. I would def. come back when I'm in the area!
I recently came here with my family for lunch on a weekday and the restaurant had ample seating. Service was really fast. We shared the (egg) noodle soup with added roast pork, pork and egg congee, and the shrimp & chive rice roll. The noodles and congee were really good. The rice roll was surprisingly average. The rice wrapper was a bit too thick for my liking. I would definitely come back for the congee and noodles and would skip the rice roll next time.
Very nice ambiance. You order from a QR code at the table and are brought complimentary hot tea. The food doesn't take long to arrive and is quite tasty. They have plenty of options on the menu and do have offerings for vegetarians.
Very good rice rolls! They weren't the chewy and elastic kind that you get at the famous NYC cheong fun cart, they were more soft and delicate. We got the shrimp and chive as well as the barbecued pork with peanut sauce. Both were fantastic! They have extra chili oil and sriracha on the tables so you can make it as hot as you want. The service was friendly and quick.

Usually, the beef rolls at dim sum restaurants are minced, but the ones here are thin slices, but still not bad. The rice rolls were freshly made and had a soft chewy texture. It was delicious. I also had the pork and thousand year egg congee. It was good, but because of the corn starch they use to thicken it, the longer the congee sat, the watery it got. The soy milk was also good. They have menus at the table, but you order with a QR code, which takes you to their website. You can customize the rice rolls and congee. You then pay at the check-out table. Service was decent, but also minimal.
Came here for breakfast. The price here may be a little higher than some places but it's well worth it. Fast and really fresh. The shrimp and chive rolls tastes good maybe even close to many dim sum restaurants. The congee was good too with the fried dough. Service can't say much because not many places going tho a QR code where you order though but you can still get a regular menu.
Absolutely everything was delicious! The service was great ! I absolutely loved the fries wontons ! The atmosphere was calm, quick service and friendly .
4.3 stars. Great place for breakfast. Noodles were freshed but took a while to be made. Wanton soup had additional toppings of shrimp which added flavor.

Why isn't this place more popular?! Seriously, every time I come here I'm shocked by how quiet it is. The first time I visited on a Saturday night, it was practically empty. Meanwhile, I'm sitting there wondering how one of the best spots in Chinatown seems to fly completely under the radar. This place is a gem. The food is consistently fresh and delicious. I ordered the shrimp rice roll, and it was exactly what I want from cheung fun. The rice noodle sheet was silky, soft, and delicate with that slightly elastic texture that makes fresh rice rolls so satisfying. The shrimp inside were actual shrimp too, not tiny mystery pieces. They were plump, sweet, and had a nice snap when you bit into them. Once covered with the light soy-based sauce, every bite was savory, slightly sweet, and incredibly comforting. My favorite item of the meal, though, was the sweet white fungus soup. I would come back for this alone. It had a light osmanthus fragrance that wasn't overpowering, just floral enough to make it feel special. The sweetness was gentle and clean rather than sugary, and the white fungus gave it that pleasant silky texture. It was refreshing, comforting, and somehow felt like dessert and self-care at the same time. We also ordered a congee that ended up being one of my partner's favorite dishes. I was already stuffed by the time it arrived, so I only had a few bites, but he happily finished the rest and kept talking about how good it was. Service was fast, friendly, and efficient. Everyone was welcoming, and the food came out quickly despite being made fresh. I also love the atmosphere here. The ceilings are surprisingly high, which makes the space feel open and airy. A lot of smaller Chinatown restaurants can feel cramped, but here it feels like you can actually breathe. Everything also feels clean and well maintained, which makes me even more comfortable coming back. The location probably doesn't help. It's tucked away in an alley in Chinatown, so it's easy to miss if you don't know it's there. But honestly, it deserves way more attention than it gets. I've already come back multiple times and somehow keep forgetting to check in. That's probably the best endorsement I can give. This isn't a place I tried once and liked. It's a place I actively crave. If you love rice rolls, congee, or Cantonese comfort food, do yourself a favor and give this place a shot. It deserves a lot more love than it's getting. read more
They were willing to make my beef and shrimp cheung fun 10 min before closing time. I ordered on the kiosk but they also can take your order at the front. The two cheung fun came to be ~$18. The cheung fun was soft but chewy enough it took some effort to separate them. I think it could have used more chives, but I like how the beef was incorporated inside of the cheung instead of placed on top. read more
Hot Take: I prefer eating at the Philadelphia Chinatown vs. the NYC Chinatown neighborhoods; and I say this as a kid who grew up in Brooklyn. I'm back in the 718 and 212 a few times a year since I still have family in NYC...but I really can't stand the traffic, having to pay all the tolls, and of course, there is the Indiana Jones-esque quest for parking. So, when the hankering for authentic Chinese food hits, nowadays I will make the 2 vs. 4 hour trip up I-95 to the Philly Chinatown. My latest find is Yin Ji Rice Roll. Think of this place as a temple to all things rice based. It's amusing to me that rice rolls (aka Cheung Fun as we can in Cantonese) has suddenly been discovered by the masses. At Yin Ji, rice flour is blended with water into a semi-thick paste, spread out onto a metal steaming tray, and then filled with a variety of fillings and toppings. When I walked in with some friends, the lower level was packed, so the staff directed us to the upstairs seating area. Ordering is done via QR code, although diners can also place orders with the servers. Instead of the usual shrimp or beef rolls, I opted for the more fancy R05. Shrimp and Chive Rice Roll. The rolls arrived after a few minutes, and then texture wasn't gummy and had a nice smoothness and flavor. The shrimp tasted fresh and the chives added a crunchy freshness. We also decided to try the classic C09. Preserved Egg and Pork Congee. This is something I make often, and the version here was also pretty good. I usually enjoy my rice porridge a bit "runnier" prepared with more water, but Yin Ji's wasn't overly thick. Top the dish with cilantro, peanuts, and of course, WHITE PEPPER (a must), and this is a classic breakfast combo. TBH, I'd also consider this place a cheap eat. Two dishes with tax and tip (only water for beverage) came out to less than $20. Next time I'm in Philly, I'll be back to try some of their noodles dishes. read more

This place should be called Yin Ji Congee instead of Rice Roll. One of the best congees around. First thing I noticed when I entered was the long staircase leading up to the second floor. It reminded me of those kung-fu movies I used to watch as a kid. Love the Chinese antique looking tables and chairs. We got the preserved egg and pork congee. The consistency was perfect and not too watery and thick. The silvered fresh ginger on top added a nice touch. I love that they gave some cilantro and peanuts on the side, it went well with the porridge. Don't forget to get their fried dough stick. It's must for me whenever I have congee. I love preserved eggs so I added an extra one for $2. My only complaint is that I wish they would cut it length wise so I could taste the best part which is the yolk. I would come back here just for this dish. As for the rice rolls, I was disappointed. I guess I got spoiled by the ones I had in NYC's Chinatown. We ordered the Chicken & Mushrooms Rice Rolls and the Peanut one. The skin was way too thick and not as silky smooth. Usually I like to soak the rice rolls in the sweet soy sauce but for some reason this didn't do it for me. Other patrons seemed to enjoy the rolls. Maybe I ordered the wrong ones? I also got their freshly grounded soy milk. Love that it was not too sweet at all. It came scalding hot so be careful. Our waitress was super friendly. read more

I love going to Yin Ji Rice Roll when I'm looking for a light meal in Chinatown. You order off of a QR code and the food gets brought over. The preserved egg and pork congee is a must have for me. It's the perfect size for 2-3 people. The rice rolls are also very tasty. The cheung fun itself is thin and the sauce is balanced. read more

Peanut Hong Kong style rice rolls + Cheng fun hit the spot. Heart of Chinatown area surrounded by so much other food for desert/fun beverages after. Good Hong Kong milk tea here as well, small and limited seating inside but super fast and kind service. Order through QR code on table where all your friends can add to the same bill on separate phones which is super convenient. So yummyyyyy read more
An excellent spot for fresh, delicious rice rolls. Yin Ji is a little pricier than other Chinatown spots, but it is still relatively inexpensive and definitely worth the spot. I love rice rolls and was pleasantly impressed by both the quantity and quality of each item we ordered. The space is also large, clean, and has lots of seating. This place was such a treat! You sign in on a sheet of paper upon arrival and they call your phone number to seat you. It was extremely busy on Sunday around 11:30 when we arrived but only had to wait 5 minutes. All the food was great and service was also friendly. I only deducted 1 star because the platters seemed a little small for how much they were charging but on the bright side it means you can try more dishes. For 2 people we were stuffed with 1 wonton noodle soup and 2 rice roll dishes. Will be coming back to try the congee and other rice rolls for sure! read more
I was really sick few days back need to eat porridge. But that time I don't have energy to look at yelp. I'm ok now and found here. Actually not know they have porridge.i did expected to eat rice roll but found out many porridge menus. So I order both! I saw customer only Asian (very good sign) so i ordered shrimp porridge adding mushroom ( it was best choice for me) it was very tasty. Make my body warm ! Friendly quick service, clean space and delicious rice rolls! Portions are generous and they have a lot of rice roll options. We got the pork and shrimp, peanut butter sauce and the beef with pork combo. Also got the pork with preserved egg congee which I thought was a tad too thick and the wonton noodle soup. To drink I got the mix coffee with tea which hit the spot! My daughter enjoyed the soy bean milk. Overall a great space for congee, noodles and rice rolls! read more

Typical restaurant decor; very busy but service was fast. Lots of variety on the menu. Rice roll (5/5) pretty good; lots of options and done well. It'll be the same thing as if you were ordering it from the streets of China. Congee (2/5): flavorful congee with lots of choices but they made it way too salty. Edible but too salty. I'd they improve the congee and balance the flavors then this would've been a 5/5. read more

I love rice rolls, so it was a no brainer to check out Yin Ji! We came for lunch on a Saturday and although we had to wait, we didn't have to wait too long. It was definitely busy, but the food comes out quickly, so table turnover is pretty high. That being said, it is kind of hard to flag a server down if you need something. Soeaking of how busy it is, you just order yourself online through a qr code on the table. We got Wonton Noodle Soup - this was a little smaller than I expected, but since we were sharing a bunch of dishes, it was the perfect size for three. The wontons were so delicious flavorful, especially when adding some vinegar. The noodles were also cooked really well. Preserved egg and pork congee - I would definitely get this again! Like the wonton noodle soup, the serving was a little smaller than I expected. But they don't skimp on the preserved egg, and the congee itself is so flavorful without being too salty or heavy. Fried dough stick - this was so crispy and doughy, it tasted so fresh and it was perfect for dipping into the congee. Barbecued pork rice roll - This was my favorite of the rice rolls we got! The meat was so tasty, and the rice rolls were a bit chewy and not mushy at all, and soaked the sauce up really well. Shrimp and chive rice roll - while the flavors were good in this one, and the rice roll was delicious, I expected the shrimp to be bigger. And because they were smaller, the texture was also more chewy. read more

The shrimp rice roll is not too thick and the shrimps are big. But I don't like the peanut sauce version because each rice roll is too thick and doesn't absorb the sauce very well. Congee is standard. The dough stick is stale. The liver is also not as good as the one at yin ji chang fen. I don't like their soy milk because it has green bean milk mix with it. read more

The rice rolls were great, but don't sleep on the wonton soup. I ordered both for myself and somehow ended up finishing it all since it was so good. The place is a no frills joint in Chinatown that is definitely worth checking out. read more
I absolutely loved the shrimp rice roll. It was so plump and soft and overall amazing. I put some chilly oil on top and genuinely was not disappointed. I really want to go back and try their other menu items as well. The interior is very clean and there's ample amount of seating. I think the prices are very reasonable and it's a very exciting addition to Chinatown! The staff was very friendly and service was moderately paced. Update: when back and tried the three treasure rice roll and wontons and SO GOOD . Highly recommend adding chilly oil and white pepper on top. read more
The food here is so comforting and yummy. You order on the QR code and they bring out the food to you pretty quickly. I really liked the rice rolls and it came with a generous amount of shrimp. The noodle soup was really good but next time I think I'll try their other popular noodle dishes. The service here was also very kind. read more

We came on a weekday morning and were seated very promptly. Shrimp chang fen had reasonable amount of shrimp and sweet soy sauce. Congee was a large person and nice to have mix ins. The soy milk was warm and a little watery- wish it was more flavorful or hotter. read more

Went there for breakfast, ordered a couple of rice rolls, congee and you tiao - all were very good. The rice rolls were thin with lots of fillings. The place is nice, reminds you of those Chinese movies. Service was very good and quick, the only thing missing was the free Chinese tea, I think you have to order those. read more
