So many things to love about this local roaster! Lemme start with my Gingerbread latte- I normally go with a regular latte, but I was feeling festive. I asked for the girl that worked at the counter to please only make it slightly sweet. It was absolutely perfect. Just the slightest hint of gingerbread, not that sweet. Didn't overpower the fantastic roast on the beans. She was very nice, she delivered it to me on the patio and even offered to remake it if I didn't like the sweetness level. I could tell the coffee was very much my taste. I went back inside after I finished my latte and talked to the girl at the counter for a little while. She helped me choose a bag of coffee to bring home, talk to me about the flavor, nuances and let me smell them, etc.. She also introduced me to the owner/Roster who happened to be there at the time. He and his wife are from Columbia and all of their beans are sourced from there and then he roasts them for sale locally. He was telling me that he's been roasting coffee beans in San Diego for other coffee shops and he still does that but he opened his first coffee shop in 2018. I truly had so many more questions, but I could tell he was busy and didn't want to bother him, he was trying to finish up the roasts on all of the specialty coffees for the holiday gift packs! read more

Walking back to my car, I was in need of a caffeine bump...LOL! I had read about Yipao somewhere and when I saw it, I was excited to try a new coffee spot. The young woman working was very friendly and told me they had been open for two years, and the original up in University Heights has been open for eight. I ordered an iced latte and it was perfect! Cako and I sat out on the patio and just enjoyed the afternoon. I also bought some beans that the young woman ground for me. Had some great coffee and a danish that changed my life here! I tried a cold brew and a raspberry danish on my visit here and they were delicious. The danish was so so good it made sense how every other person seemed to get getting one. They have limited indoor seating but a generous outdoor patio with good options. I love the Colombian coffee at Yipao and the cassava waffles with guava jam were yummy too (Waffles de yucca). If you appreciate artisan coffee then this is the place for you!! I was so impressed when I saw how much love and craft goes into their drinks here. They make all of their syrups from scratch, which is something I really appreciate - this is not something that every coffee shop does so it's just another example of how they go above and beyond. For all of their drip coffees, they carefully weigh out and pour the water in slowly. I'm telling you they take their time to put Love love into each drink. I appreciated all of the outdoor seating that they have available, it can get a little cramped inside if you're waiting for your drinks since there's not too much seating, but that's really not a big deal. The servers were all very friendly. I will definitely be coming back here very soon :-) read more

I'm still dreaming of this coffee. I was staying in PB for a month and this was next door. I was on the hunt to find the best coffee in PB, and believe I found it here. I tried a variety of drinks, and none were a miss. Try the strawberry latte!! I was skeptical but it became a favorite. The service was amazing, and they were so kind each time. My dog also was a huge fan because every time we went in he was greeted with pets and a treat. They gave a cute patio where people were often sitting outside working. Everything about this shop was so great. Dreaming of the day I return to San Diego, and I can make this my first stop. read more

Was excited to try this place because of good reviews but a little disappointed. Asked for a cold brew but they only let us know they were out of cold brew after we paid for it and then offered an Americano instead but didn't offer to refund the price difference as the Americano was a cheaper drink. We asked for a pour over instead but they said it would be an extra $5 from what we paid for the cold brew $6.50 so an $11.50 pour over coffee? Kind of crazy read more

Small and cozy shop. The workers are super nice! Parking may be hard to find since it's in a busy area of PB. Ordered a regular iced latte and wasn't suuuper impressed. Yipao Coffee has been on my list to try for a while now. Luckily, I was in the area and finally got the chance to try it out. There seemed to be a small pour over event today so the workers were quite busy (maybe a little overwhelmed). One guy at the coffee bar, he seemed to be stretched thin-- but honestly I didn't mind waiting! The interior of the place is cut in half. On the left side, the yellow coffee roaster machine was doing its thing. Crates and bags lined against the wall by the window. The right side was where we stood in line. The menu was displayed on a screen as well as a laminated paper by the pastries. I ordered a seasonal drink: the iced strawberry latte. This came out reasonably quick. And it was a tad too milky for me. I wish there was more emphasis on the espresso because I feel the flavor notes could have been really good. The strawberry, I think was a syrup-- it was very subtle and more tart than sweet. 6/10. I'll definitely come back to give Yipao another chance. Maybe try one of the other specialty coffees -- The place was pretty cool. Good prices and I loved the interior/exterior. The color of the outdoor chairs and umbrellas screamed sunshine, warmth, and happiness. They had a good amount of outdoor seating! Will be back to try them again, if you're in Pacific Beach I recommend coming here. Also it's less than a minute walk from Hoboken Pizza & Beer Joint. read more

A fantastic coffee shop focused solely on Columbian coffee beans. I came in both to buy beans and get a cup of coffee, and in selecting beans the barista was really helpful in asking questions about what kind of coffee I liked and how I liked to brew, etc. My black coffee and the beans have all been fantastic. Thank god for YIPAO!! After Bird Rock Coffee Roasters closed on Garnet, I was a sad girl. But then Yipao opened!! They know what's up with coffee. Everyone that works there is super kind and really customizes the order to your liking. The owner works in store at times as well which I really love from a customer service stand point. They are also SUPER dog friendly which is always a bonus. Many treats have been given to my pups from the staff. It feels like the perfect, cozy local coffee shop and I walk here at least 2x weekly to enjoy a cortado or macchiato. Sometimes they are a little heavy on the milk (depending on who is serving you) but they are happy to fix it for you if it's not to your liking. Definitely not the place to go if you're in a rush but perfect spot for a lazy Sunday. read more

This is a cool cafe and roaster focused exclusively on high end coffees from Columbia. This is very much tailored toward coffee connoisseurs/fanatics. If you're looking for something you can't get at a normal coffee shop - this is a great spot. The staff were super friendly. I ordered a regular drip coffee, but one of the staff members was making a pour over with one of their unique coffees, and he let me try a little bit! It was quite delicious. The only thing I wasn't psyched about is that their "market price" for pour overs is kind of outrageous. They have cups of coffee between $10-$15!! I'm sure they are fantastic/rare, but in Southern California there is a lot of amazing coffee. So I think if they're trying to share about the amazing and unique coffees from Columbia, they should consider making them more accessible. read more
