The corn cob was soggy, and there were some spoiled kernels on it too. The only edible item there was the cornbread. The VERY last straw was how the AUTOMATIC 15% tip on the bill, and they failed to inform us of this. So of course, not knowing this, we added another 15% tip. We didn't realize it until right after we left, since we were wondering why the original bill seemed so expensive. The town of Tusayan, Arizona is a funnel. I suspect the entire town's purpose for existence is to feed and house the millions of international folks who enter the Grand Canyon National Park a few miles outside of town. With that said-- be warned, you are in a remote area. There are no gourmet, four star restaurants. I ordered the simple Cowboy Steak, my wife went with a salad in a tortilla shell. My dinner came with a salad. Salad dressing choices are Ranch or Ranch. Portions were ample, her salad was basic. My sirloin, cooked over juniper was tasty , medium rare and tough. A cobbette of corn was frozen corn, no more, no less. The baked potato was served with butter and sour cream. We drank water, but local and national brand beer , wine and mixed drinks were available. Pinto " Cowboy Beans" were served in a cast iron pot. My guess is canned beans with a touch of seasoning. We both left full. Not bad food, but don't expect a " WOW" experience. I would not recommend this place. My family ate here on a recent trip to the Grand Canyon, and we were really disappointed. Overall the food was extremely bland. My husband ordered "The Rancher," a 16 oz T-bone, and he said it was juicy but flavorless. My daughter ordered the shish-kabob, and she described it as flavorless and dry. My son had "The Cowboy Combo," a 6 oz sirloin and 3 fried shrimp. He said the steak was unseasoned, and he thought it was soaked in water before being cooked. The shrimp were the highlight of his meal, but there were only 3 of them. I had the BBQ ribs. The ribs did have flavor, but it was an extremely smoky flavor and the BBQ sauce was bland. The meals came with a salad, biscuit, baked potato, corn on the cob, and baked beans. The menu offered other sides, but when I asked to substitute an item I was told substitutions were not allowed. The salad, biscuit, and baked potato were ok. The beans were right on par with the steaks- lacking in flavor. The service was a little slow, but they were pretty busy. Our waiter was average. This is a busy get em in, get em out tourist class restaurant with the obligatory cowboy theme. Everyone wears cowboy hats and tacky uniforms. The largely latino staff works hard, but has little time for customer service. For the price, the food is poor, by any measure. Obviously, steak is the main event, and here's what you get. First an iceberg salad with 1 cherry tomato per person thrown in. It's drenched in blue cheese dressing. Not even a few grated carrots or bell peppers to be found. You serve yourself out of stainless steel bowl brought to your table with plastic tongs. Next, the Tbone steak for $22.00. A large steak, for us cooked medium rare that was a thin cut that still took some effort to cut into pieces Considering this was their speciality, a compete disappointment. Most of it went to the dog. Served with a naked baked potato with no butter, sour cream, onions. We asked for butter after flagging down a waitress (all the service people run around to keep up with the crowd). Served with corn, which was obviously the frozen mushy type found in high school cafeterias. Beans were right out of a can, but watered down. The biscuit was a classic breakfast type that was served naked but warm. One of us ordered the Taco Salad, served in a crisp taco shell, was a repeat of the side salad: strictly iceberg lettuce, 2 quarters of unripe tomato, a single sliver of red onion, a pile of institutional yellow cheddar cheese and, count em, 3 dime sized pieces of chicken. No beans, rice, salsa, or anything green - for $11.00. We were hungry after a day at the Canyon, and yes, they pile on the food. But the steaks are low grade and the sides are no better than a high school cafeteria from the 60s. The total tab for 2 steaks and one Taco Salad, no drinks was over $70. They have a mini paragraph at the bottom of the menu describing all the ordinary service they will refuse , more than one check per table, $3 for plate sharing, the also add the tip in with the bill .. Overpriced, poorly staffed, so I paid $9 so my husband and our friend to take a few sips of a very flat soda.
