I am not one to post bad reviews and if it is, it's not to bad mouth the place but pointing out what can be improved. I commend the owner's attempt of introducing Korean BBQ to the area. If you check out my posts, we love Korean BBQ. Unfortunately, the meats were all under seasoned. The pork belly was really bland, I tired dipping into the sauces but even that couldn't enhance the taste. My son loves egg soufflé and if you see the picture, this does not compare to the egg soufflés we've been to. Unfortunately, even the kids had a literal bad taste in their mouth. The cooking area was small and the heat not strong enough that after cooking the first 6 half strips of thinly sliced pork belly, we had to wait 7 minutes for the next batch to cook. Yeah, the place does look very deserted but picks up after 7-7:30 pm. Reading other reviews, I'm glad that some people find the place great but for Korean style BBQ and meat flavor, they totally missed the mark. You can definitely improve a lot on this. read more

A quite and peaceful vibe here, definitely noticed as entered. The service overall was great, always got checked up on of liked the food and if I needed more. Honestly it was refreshing to get good service that felt real. So the beef Ttukbaegi bulgogi, I thoroughly enjoyed, a lot of beef and well flavored and not an overkill of veggies. But would loved some more mushrooms though. The sauce/stew itself was really good, I keep drink it and pouring over my rice. I found the rice okay, but definitely jasmine over hard boiled rice preferred. I liked side salad and wish I had more, it had a-bit of spiced edge and was better than the typical ginger dressing you get. The bubble tea was perfect, not overly sweet and generous on the size of it, but definitely would do better in another glass since straw could not reach the boba pops well enough. another note, always appreciate a place that gives you large glass to refill your water. read more

Nice find in the area! Super yummy kimchi! That's always a key for my rating of K food and prob the case for most into Korean food. Haha Hubby had the dol sot bi bim bap, excellent! The authentic bowl came sizzling making nice crusty rice on the bottom, really good size too! I had the veggie tofu soup, a bit lacking. I prob should have went with one with meat. Disappointed they didn't have kimchi jigae, total legit comfort food But overall, def come back here! Wanna try other stuffs and that kimchi is so good! Lastly, the service was excellent, so friendly and attentive! Hope you help support them, places like this add culture to the area read more

Prior to calling the former Tony Boffas' Italian eatery on Railroad Avenue their home, this restaurant served outstanding Authentic Korean Food. During the past, their former location was relegated to family, usually a mother and daughter duo. Today however, the sullied restaurant has multiple hands in the kitchen and as well as in the front. The latter is being controlled by former Tony Boffas' owners. As the saying goes, "too many chefs spoil the food" especially if you formerly governed a now defunct restaurant. Last time I looked over at the world map, I do not remember Italy and Korea being situated near each other. So it easy to understand the collision course being laid out right in front of you. On my last visit, the taste, quality, and authenticity has died. My food was disgustingly hard to chew. Factually, the meat being served is the cheapest meat available and often served as meat served on taco stands called palomino. Trust me on this, walk into any Korean restaurant and get the Bulgogi or the Kalbigui, and you will get Rib bone steak sliced and marinated to perfection. At this pseudo-Korean restaurant, the marinated beef is served where you literally needed scissors to cut it. When I complained, the former Italian restauranteur stated that I was over cooking the steak. Keep in mind that I enjoy my steak "Medium-Rare." This was followed by her daughter who stated that we ate most of it. Factually, it was all on the grill and the entire second half was on the plate it was served on. Prior to the steak, we ordered the broiled squid. This dish was literally bathe in sugar; Overwhelmingly so. My fiancé and I have had these dishes at their former location and it was delicious. Today, unless you enjoy visiting vascular surgeons for the impending diabetes, stay away. Now if you are into self- mutilation and wish to pay someone $72.00 to do it for you, may I suggest you pay these fakers to do it for you and enjoy the slop-show. Don't say I did not warn you! Good Yuck. In response to the interlopers of Korean Food I'll say this: Thanks for proving my theory on meddling in cuisine you know nothing about. Your antiquated establishment along with historical frugality underscores my angst against you. If the Korean family purchased the location, it's time for all of you to move on and not meddle in any way or form with the new owners who may very well be intimidated to shove you to the side. They were doing fantastically well at their previous location without your presence. Just like the implosion of your Italian restaurant, you are certainly contributing to the demise of this Korean location. As far as racism, please don't make me laugh. It was through your racist eyes that you assumed that my fiancé and I, who by the way is African American, and I am a Hispanic American, were dumb enough to fall for your bait and switch of quality food for cheap, disgusting, garbage; and how do I know the historical frugal minded people of Italy? Well, my eldest daughter is an Italian American, Puerto Rican Mixed, young lady. Really enjoyed the flavors of the food, portions were great, we brought leftovers home. We loved the kimchi and picked veggies they brought out as well as complimentary miso soup. The seafood scallion pancake was lacking in actual scallions and could have used more onion flavor and perhaps a dipping sauce of some sort as it didnt have a lot of flavor on its own. The service is why I deducted one star because it seemed like there was only 2 servers for the whole restaurant on a friday night and it was busy. It took forever to get water brought to the table and i asked for a cup with ice for the room temperature soju and never got it. We will definitely be back and want to try the korean bbq and hot pot! read more

Tldr- food delicious but don't go when it's busy. We were there.on a busy Saturday night. We ordered 3 individual entrees, no alcohol, no appetizer, no dessert $80. Food.is good but they brought 1 entree, said "yours will be up in just a moment" and then left us completely alone for another 30.min. another waiter stopped by to ask if we wanted more.kimchi or other pickles and we asked about the status of our.order and surprise! It arrived 10 min later. Waitstaff said it was because there's only 1 cook in the kitchen (the owner) but....hmmph. the food is seriously good tho, but maybe I won't go back on a Saturday night? read more

Fantastic food and ambience. Better than many Korean places in NYC. Beef Bibimbap was full of flavor and good portion size. Great service.

i got the beef hot stone. the rice wasnt crispy the beef was good but nothing crazy. service was okay. i didnt think we had the same service as the table next to us. went with my two brothers, they never had the hot stone before so wanted them to try it. the food came out 5-7 mins apart. wouldve been fine to leave it in the back (to bring out same time) then my rice would prolly crisp up. i wanted to like it since i live 3 mins from it but :/ read more

My friend and I went today for lunch. In spite of the fact that the street was affected by road construction and the front door was locked, we entered via the takeout door. Neither of us had Korean food before. She had marinated beef and I had La Gaba (a beef dish with small bones). Both were excellent. We shared a dumpling stuffed with ice cream for dessert. Worst korean restaurant I've ever been to. The Meats were the cheapest cuts of meats. I can barely chew on them even tho I only lightly cooked the beef.... the side dishes also taste disgusting... like some american teenage boy trying to impress his korean gf. Amateur foods are what I'm trying to say. Does not taste authentic at all... usually when I eat kbbq, they usually give sesame oil to dip, but instead, they give us soybean oil, the tasteless oil you could imagine. The marinated meat were drenched in sugar and grotesque flavors... My mom and I visited Cornell University a few weeks ago and were excited to have discovered this Korean restaurant on our drive back, having been deprived of kimchi for three days. There was a staff member who led us to our table at the front desk and a very sweet waiter who was kind enough to welcome our touristy banter and questions while he took our order. I remember my first impression of the restaurant as finding it having a similar feel to a Korean 찜질방 what with the stone floor and wooden walls. It felt very comforting and homey, not to mention extremely clean! The bathroom, which was very much needed after our six hour drive, was the cleanest restaurant bathroom I'd very been in (with lovely traditional Korean decor too). We received a miso soup along with some banChan before our meal. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the 'miso soup' was actually a deliciously prepared 진 뙌장찌개 육수! And the kimchi that we'd been craving for several days hit the spot! It was cold and fresh out of the refrigerator, crisp and crunchy, perfectly seasoned and 익켜줘ed, and apparently the chef/restaurant owner 담궈s the kimchi herself. This kimchi is better than 종가짐 김치, I'm telling you. The waiter gave us a free refill on the banchan dishes after we had scraped the plates clean, pilling it up higher than the first round. 우리 엄마가 양은냄비 보자마자 막 흥분을하시면서 사진을 이럭해 많이 찍은거에요 . 저는 제가 주문한 순두부만 맛있게 먹어지만, 엄마에 반응을 떠올리면... 다른 요리도 충분히 맛있는거 같아요 ^^. 너무 잘먹고 사장님과 인사를 하게 되어서 너무 반가웠어요. 잘먹고 갔음니다! read more

We came in today and ordered two beef bimbimbap, not only they forget to add the beef but the manager who tried to rectify the situation by bringing us this plate of disgusting ground beef and onions. Her comments was "did we forget your beef?" and dropped this crap on the table with sarcastic attitude. I did two tours in South Korea, and not one Korean would feed this crap to their dogs. read more

I recently had the pleasure of eating at the Yishan Korean restaurant. Fortunately it just happened to be my Birthday, I had been wanting to dine there for some time , so my wife decided that we would go this day!!! An what a great decision it turned out to be !!! We get in there to consume what turned out to be the absolute most fabulous tasting Korean cuisine I could have imagined!!! We ordered Korean barbecue I had marinated pork while the wife had the marinated beef!!! The meal was absolutely delicious, not to mention that the owner an her staff were tremendously nice an so pleasantly accommodating!!! The meal was so savory an scrumptious until I was in awe of how well this was!!! Also the ambiance was unbelievably cozy and warm with a atmosphere oozing of pleasantries that made us want to dine there daily!!! I think I aforementioned my birthday, an before we could gather ourselves to leave they made the experience even more memorable by bring out some birthday dessert an song!!! This place made me feel as if i was seriously a part of the Yishan Korean restaurant family!!! I highly recommend this restaurant to all patrons!! Go there an enjoy the delectable meal an unforgettable pleasantries that were afforded towards myself and wife!!! I am so happy that we went there for my birthday it was awesome!!!
