Service here was amazing. Our server Sean, totally goes out of the way for the customers. I've been to yo's several times and you're supposed to go order at the counter and they call u up when your food is ready. But he was taking people's orders at the table when they didn't know, bringing out food to us, and checked up on us several times- like a real sushi restaurant! Okay sushi place. Not the cleanest inside, always flies flying around. But decent enough for when we don't want to go to Oakland to our favorite sushi spot. Decent service. I don't eat the raw stuff here so I can't comment on that. The soy sauce on their tables is too salty. It's a different brand, not the usual Kikkoman. Prices are okay. I had dinner here the other night. I ordered sake, hamachi, and maguro nigiri, along with some edamame. The nigiri was fine. It wasn't great looking, and the cuts weren't the fantastic. The maguro's texture, in particular, was poor. The rice was well prepared, and given the cuts, the presentation was good. It's not clear whether the fish is cut there or not. The prep area is hidden. The rice was warm and fresh, and the fish cool, so there's at least some work done in the kitchen. Either way, they aren't buying the fish monger's best. The edamame was salted after it was boiled, so the beans were bland. The service was good. You order at the counter, and it's brought to your table. The selection is better than local supermarkets, but if you're looking for simple, quick take-away, you'll get as good quality at the supermarkets, and you'll pay less. I'll try it again. read more

Have to update this. My first review was when they first opened their doors. It's been quite some time now, and they've got it going very well now. This place has become one of my favorite spots. Seriously, I'm here a lot! The food is great, and the service is still as friendly as ever. Still have the k-pop playing, and the parking it still as good as it was before. If you're in Alameda, stop by marina village and pay them a visit. I recommend you try this place out. read more

Yo Sushi is located in a shopping center and although it is adequately decorated inside, it still has a sort of fast food restaurant feel to the place. Nevertheless, it's more than a fast food place. It's nice enough for a casual dinner out. Plenty of tables and you order at the counter. Looks like you also pick up your own order, but it wasn't busy when we had dinner there and the staff brought out dinner to our table. Had their only ramen bowl and some agedashi tofu. Tofu was just OK, and they toned down the heat from their ramen for me. The owner came out to talk to us and find out how everything was for our meal. REALLY CHEAP SUSHI!!!!!! And really good value for thick cuts of sashimi.... I would recommend getting to-go (which I suspect is what most people do, since the restaurant was pretty dead when we went on a Thursday night). However, in some sense, you do get what you pay for. The fish quality is not especially great -- The salmon was fine, but tuna did not taste very good (very light pink color/grainy texture, instead of the dark red color/rich flavor). That being said, the fish is fresh and there are no sanitary concerns on my end. The restaurant looks well-kept and clean :) But don't expect gourmet with such a low price tag! Overall, I would come back if I was craving some sushi and was a little tight in my wallet! They give you a lot of food for what you pay :) Service was good. At first, I wasn't quite sure if we were supposed to order at the counter or be seated at a table. After staring at the giant menu board (there are A LOT of choices) we grabbed and printed menu to look over and sat at a table. Still not sure where we should order, we went back to the register to order our food. The food was brought to the table pretty quickly, we didn't even have time to finish our miso soup! The beef teriyaki was a little bland for my fiance's liking but I LOVED my Dynamite Roll. The pieces were a little large but for the price and taste it was a good deal. The Philly roll was as to be expected. After your meal its not clear if you should bus your own dishes or if the server/cashier is supposed to do this. I think I'll be back, but probably for takeout next time so I can save myself the confusion of proper etiquette. read more

I like this place! It's nice to come here for cheap and yummy sushi. The staff is also friendly and efficient. Of course, it's not the best sushi out there, but some things are better than others. You just have to know what to order. My favorite items are the Deluxe Lambada Roll (spicy tuna topped with avocado and spicy mayo) and the Fire Eclipse (deep-fried avocado topped with spicy tuna and spicy mayo). WOW! This tiny little place looks... like it'd be disappointing!! From the outside! When you walk in though.. different story. Everyone is really nice. Menu is on the wall before the register. Lots of seating. Quick food.. and it's good! Actually good! There are a lot of rolls with super flavor and It's definitely become a go-to place for me. This place is great and deserves more stars. When I first came here, I tried the Alien Brain, Unagi Don, and some other rolls and everything has been good! I like that they give a good amount of unagi (eel) for an affordable price. Actually...many of their entrees are affordable. Where else can you get a Chicken Teriyaki bento box (with CA roll) for $6.95? I also really like that they have a lot of different rolls on the menu. So if you have a specific craving, one of their rolls is bound to be to your liking. Staff is also attentive and friendly. They remembered my boyfriend and I. When there was a miscommunication and we ordered two dishes instead of one (boyfriend didn't clarify), the staff member apologized and sent one back. Sorry dude! This is the place to go in Alameda if you're on a budget and want a good value for sushi. The rolls are probably their strong suit as there is a large menu of choices. If you want top-notch sashimi or ngiri in Alameda though then I would go with Angelfish, Kamakura or Yokohama. The raw fish at Yo Sushi is noticeably lower quality than those pricier resturants though it's fresh at least. read more

The bad: ordered spicy "Korean style" seafood ramen. Idk what was Korean about it. It certainly had a lot of seafood; 1-3 pieces of a bunch of different kinds of fish, shellfish, and squid/octopus. The problem was the noodles were instant quality and the broth was very obviously all powder. It was a lot of seafood in some top ramen. The good: the sushi was great. I ordered the Oregon and Aloha, salmon and tuna rolls both with avocado. I really enjoyed both of them. My dad got their chirashi and shared it so I got to try some of their other sashimi cuts too and it was all very good. Good fish, bad noodles. read more

Dissapointed because I used to love coming here for lunch until Anna became a server here and completely ruined my experience. I went up to order she didn't smile or ask what I wanted. I proceeded to order kindly she didn't acknowledge me or my order. She simply read my total and took my card with a look of disgust on her face. Not even a thank you after leaving a nice tip. I sat down and waited for my order. She brought my order out and basically threw it at me. I finished my meal and proceeded to leave she didn't say thank you as I left. Love the Marina roll, we go to the Fairfield location all the time and come to this one when we visit family. Clean and polite, fast and friendly. UPDATE: I was in town visiting my family last night and decided to stop in by myself as a birthday treat. I ordered at the register, perfect customer service, but two things happened which is why I won't be going back ever again. I slipped and fell in the bathroom because there was a leak they didn't have a warning sign up for. I work in bodily insurance so if it had been signed then it would be my bad in a sense for slipping and falling, but I fell and was able to grab ahold of the sink and brace myself. I now have a large bruise across my abdomen from this, I went back after my meal to look and it was because the soap dispenser was broken and leaking all over the floor. The second issue, I woke up this morning and checked my bank statement to see they had gone back in and entered themselves a nice fat tip when I had left and signed for no tip on the receipt and gave them cash on the table I sat at. I disputed it with my bank, but I'm appalled by the whole ordeal and won't be going back unfortunately. The service was great, that's the only reason I'm not giving the business a 2 star. I used to work in a Japanese restaurant in LA, and I eat a lot of Japanese food. The rice that they use in the rolls don't taste like they use any rice vinegar at all, or any seasoning. It taste like regular or more mushy jasmine rice. Really ruins the roll. And the cuts of sashimi they give is very generous, but there's a line that separates a good cut, and a big chewy piece of fish. If I go again, I would just order sashimi only, and ask them to divide each piece in half. read more
