Connecting with Yoga One has been one of the most unexpectedly amazing events of my life! In July 2020 I signed up for their 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training without really any prior experience with them. I was interested in deepening my own personal practice and teaching virtually during COVID, and the dates/prices matched up with what I was looking for. Every day during the 2.5 week intensive training we met outside at a park and dove into the complexities of posture alignment, teaching methodologies, yogic philosophy, meditation, and so much more. I loved the community my cohort formed together and we were challenged and supported in equal measure. Amy & Michael, the owners and lead teacher trainers at Yoga One, are some of the kindest, most genuinely giving people I have ever met. They have so much knowledge to share and are always down to just chat about life. I'm now on my way to opening my own yoga business and am continuing my education with Yoga One's 300-hour training this March. I love the variety of their online classes as well and the different energy each teacher brings. From restorative yoga to vinyasa, I always feel like I'm learning something new and engaging both my mind and body during class. Sunday yoga on the roof? #win. Even better that this was at the hotel that I was staying at on a recent trip to San Diego, which means that yoga on the roof by yoga one was included! The class with Jen was relaxing and just challenging enough as the sun was beating down on us. The hotel was actually setting up for a wedding, but we were able to fit our mats in the area just in front of the chairs without any problem. My husband and I love the virtual Yoga One classes over zoom. We discovered this studio during Covid and have been taking classes 2x a week ever sense. Yoga One is the one bright spot during the pandemic! I had been going to the studio in downtown San Diego for a few years and loved the vibe of the place and the many different teachers and classes offered. Since the shut down hit in March of 2020, I have been doing many of their on-line classes via Zoom. It may not be as good as being there in person, but it is certainly the next best thing. Still the same great teachers and classes. I have also attended the noon classes on Mondays and Wednesdays in Presidio Park and loved them - such a beautiful setting. I am partial to the classes taught by the owner, Amy Caldwell, but also really enjoy the classes taught by Missy and Michael and Karen and Amy Freeman (the "other Amy:) Definitely the best yoga in town! read more

Getting into yoga was my 2011 New Years resolution, and since then, I'm still at it, (trying) to do 2 classes per week. It's not like a typical yoga experience at like a big gym, where it's cramped and crowded. I love the intimate and smaller class sizes, which gives everyone plenty of room to stretch their arms, or walk up the walls. I love the creaky wooden floor the best. It's a very serene vibe. The night classes are great with the candles going. I've never left a class without a smile and a deep sense of comfort and well-being. All of the instructors that I've met have been wonderful, but Michael and Amy C. are my faves. Love love love coming here, and only wish I could bump it up to 4+ times per week. I just moved to San Diego and was looking for a welcoming yoga studio that was nearby where I live. I live in Gaslamp, and so Yoga One is a nice walk from my place. I took advantage of their $50 unlimited for the first month, and went to class about 3-5 times per week. The studio is smaller than the one I practiced at in my old town; classes usually do not contain more than 8-10 people, which is pretty nice. I have taken classes with nearly all of the instructors there, and have enjoyed the different styles. I am a beginner at yoga, though not a brand-new beginner-- I have been practicing for about 9 months, usually 3-5 times per week, and my preferred style of class is a little slower than the typical level 2+ flow class (Amy, the owner, teaches a very challenging level 2 class on Thursday nights, which is excellent and totally kicked me ass!). Because my focus is on learning proper breathing technique, perfecting my poses, and especially on the smooth transitions between poses, I like classes where the challenge is sustaining poses rather than moving quickly through them. Being a philosophically-minded person, I also appreciate a teacher who explains some of the subtle intuitive reasons behind yogic practice. My favorite teacher is Sarah, who teaches only one class on Wednesday nights at 5:30. (I wish she taught more!) My other favorite teacher is definitely Hillary, but she teaches at like 6 in the morning and I just can't get out of bed early enough to get ready and walk over at that time! I have been lucky and come to classes where she was filling in for another teacher. Hillary has the energy of an angel, and is totally inspiring and fun. It is always a joy to walk in and be greeted by her :) Of course, as all yoga practitioners know, this is a question of personal style/preference and not a reflection of the quality of the other teachers, who are stellar, committed, and extremely pleasant to be around. I also highly recommend Michael's class-- he manages to incorporate some very challenging poses while keeping the class fun and playful. I was practicing yoga almost every day, for one months there. So I had a chance to take classes with each teacher. And there are all professionals and do their job with love. I love atmosphere, especially in the evenings, when they burn candles, use aromatherapy and play life guitar sometimes. And rooftop classes is a big plus for this school. I've been practicing Yoga on and off for over 10 years...I started in NYC taking lots of different classes from Ashtanga to Kundalini, to Hatha, to Vinyasa, etc....having taken yoga classes at literally a TON of places over the years, I can honestly say, Yoga One is an amazing community of wonderful teachers and students alike. I just finished the 200 Hr. Yoga Teacher Training and my mind is completely blown. I don't think I've EVER grown so much in such as short span of time in my entire life! An absolutely beautiful, caring, compassionate, and supportive environment to deepen your practice, take classes, do the YTT program, or just meet amazing like-minded souls. I feel so honored & grateful to be a graduate from this incredible program as well as take classes regularly at this studio. The teachers here are UH-MAZING but here's my quick guide 4 all you newbies or people trying to decide on a Yoga studio for classes (in no particular order): 1) If you're an intermediate to advanced student and want a challenge and a sweat: go check out Kairou's 2-3 Class on Saturdays OR Nam's class on Thursday night...prepare to SWEAT. In fact, ALL of Kairou's classes are freakin' awesome, and she gives lots of variations in each pose so that if you're less intermediate (like in her level 2 classes), you'll have options to advance further into the pose or not. Also, Kairou has an ABSOLUTELY beautiful energy about her, and she just lights up her class room...her sequences are incredible and unique along with her skill as a teacher...just HIGHLY recommend becoming her student!! *Insiders Note: Nam's Thursday night class is a favorite with instructors AT Yoga One, & you'll often see TEACHERS of Yoga One in his class...because it's THAT awesome...and challenging (no joke)...in general, be prepared to be sore the day after Nam's or Kairou's class! =) 2) If you want a great challenge with a laid back vibe and a lot of laughs, go check out Michael Caldwell's class! You've never had more straight up FUN doing Yoga in your life! Plus the guy is hilarious and you won't want class to end! Super cool, super laid back vibe...and again, a good challenge! Seriously, positive, supportive, and just plain wonderful vibrations...this woman teaches a great class for beginner to intermediate students! 7) Kristin Eck: pretty much the entire reason I personally decided to take the YTT program at Yoga One...I went to her class when she was a new graduate and was so amazed by her skill and knowledge and beauty as an instructor...I stayed after class to ask her some questions, and was just so impressed...I was super intimidated at the time talking to her, but she was so sweet and encouraging and wonderful and I thought...THIS is the kinda place I want to learn more about Yoga. THIS is the kind of skill I want to know...what a lovely human! Go take her classes!! You won't regret it!! Buyer beware.... owners are horrible people. I am writing this review to let consumers know so this does not happen to anyone else. Basically this studio is stealing $2050 dollars from me for services that will never be provided. I attempted to come to a compromise but they are unscrupulous with no ethics. They are a complete scam. I signed up and paid for yoga teacher training. Unfortunately, have a horrible back injury for which I will be undergoing MAJOR surgery for. Long before the training started I called to explain my situation. I have a medical release and my doctor advised me that I will not be able to participate. I offered to supply them with a note from my doctor and surgeon. Additionally, show them my medical records so they would know for certain the extent of my injury and why I can't participate. I even told the owner that I did not expect nor demand 100% refund. That if they incurred any costs such as for printing materials and such that they could subtract that from what I paid as a show of good faith. They are refusing to refund any of my $2050 which is a lot of money to take for a service they will never render! They are basically thieves stealing money from a person with a physical disability. They offer NO refunds not even in the case of a serious matter of health like this. I would understand had I started the class and was opting out early or if I did not have a legitimate excuse but in this situation they are not morally or ethically doing the right thing. They are basically stealing my funds and not rendering any service to me. I understand my back injury is not their fault however to be so rigid and not make exception for somebody now handicapped is despicable! Not even a fair compromise like deducting any cost they MAY have incurred. How they can sleep at night is beyond me. Taking $2050 for doing absolutely nothing is disgusting. I would not recommend this studio and would urge you to not give this studio any of your business. They are scammers and have no moral compass and their policy may not even be legal. This will get reported to all agencies including BBB and consumer affairs. Michael, Your policy is flawed if no allowance for medical releases or impairments. Again, not seeking 100% refund. You could subtract any costs incurred and refund the balance. To not do that makes your policy flawed and it is capitalizing on my misfortune. read more

Can only review the prenatal partners class... Well worth the $34/ couple. It's not necessarily a yoga class so the hubbies don't need to be nervous, but we do recommend wearing comfy clothes. It was a great informative class to learn as partners how the partner/husband can help ease aches and pains. I actually fell further in live with my husband because it felt great to connect with him, and have him understand all the weird changes a woman's busy goes through and how to comfortable, actively and gracefully ease aches and pain and connect spiritually as husband, wife, and unborn baby. read more

I would definitely go again, but the drop-in price of $24 per class for out-of-towners is a little pricey and the mats to borrow weren't very nice, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Good proximity to Gaslamp, but I would Uber instead of walk because of the homeless people everywhere. read more

I found the classes to be lacking something - the studio is very large a chilly, and the lights are left on and are super bright. I go to yoga for an experience - and I just didn't feel they had the ambiance I was looking for in a studio. The teachers were all nice, but never did adjustments or offered guidance. I've been practicing here for a few years now. There's a good variety of classes and each teacher has their own style which helps to keep your practice interesting and challenging. The business staff (the owners I presume) is very responsive if you send them an email. This studio makes me want to move to San Diego. It's beautiful and cozy. The smell is heavenly, they must burn lavender oil or a ton of lavender candles. The instruction is very good and well thought out. Directions are delivered in a clear way. Innovative methods are utilized to help yogis get into positions. I frequented this place a few years back only for the pre-natal yoga class (I'm actually a Bikram fan). This class was awesome! I had a pretty easy pregnancy, and I give partial credit to the prenatal yoga I did here. The instructor was great, she had a child of her own, so she could relate to our affected state, and bountiful bellies. She always came around and aided everyone during the postures, and made sure nobody hurt themselves. She even offered suggestions of postures you could do at home, on your own time. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a pre-natal yoga class. My only issue at the time, was I wish they offered this class more than once a week, I liked it that much!! But perhaps the demand may not justify an additional class. Overall though, a great pick for pre-natal yoga. read more

i love love love this place...the teachers are AWESOME...i joined because i wanted to get back into yoga and this place was right around the corner from my work and wow, i am so happy that i did...!!! not to sound cliche but it is seriously turning my stress levels and anxiety levels around and i'm honestly feeling more balanced, centered, and strong! -- (in fact, i was shocked and excited that i was able to carry 3 bags of groceries, my purse and my gym bag + hold the leash to the dog up 3 flights of stairs to my apt....i'm convinced it's because of the yoga and the strength buildling!) i've been to the following teachers & times: amy - mon noon hour - vinyasa flow : amy is awesome, her upbeat and positive personality is just such a great way to start the work week... jennifer - tu & thu noon hour - vinyasa flow : jennifer is detail oriented and does a great job helping you adjust and push to your potential...it's amazing how different a pose/stretch can feel if someone just alters your body and makes you go that extra breath...bonus: it's typically a smaller class, so more opportunity to really push and grow! love it! paisley - wed noon hour - flow (anusara-inspired) : paisley helps me see the bigger picture sometimes which is helpful come mid-week and although the class is a little more packed you still receive attention and adjustments through the class michael - fri noon hour - flow : michael is fun and a great way to end the week...typically not a packed class so he gives you an opportunity to make suggestions on what you want to work on while keeping in tune with making sure you're balanced for the start of the weekend! if you're new and a resident of SD, the $50 for the month unlimited is definetely the way to go... plus, they have an awesome roof-top yoga thing in little italy as sunday AMs...hoping to check it out at one point during my unlimited month for sure... my goal by the end of the month, handstands and headstands! read more

I've been a student at Yoga One since before they were "Yoga One," and still part of the health club that used to be upstairs from them 7-years ago. I'm now relocating back east and must admit that I am going to miss the quality of instruction here. I took one of their classes while staying at the Porto Vista Hotel in Little Italy. It was wonderful. I am an E-RYT and was impressed by my instructor and romanced by the location of the class, which was on the rooftop, under the pergolas facing the bay. In fact, during the class the marine layer slightly remained, which provided a little shelter from the sun. Soo.. It was my first time doing yoga and there are about 10 people there.. It was great.. I still dont know why people say yoga is relaxing.. Its not.. Its more like focusing.. But focusing on ur breath and body which is actually really good.. My background: i used to sit on my laptop from morning to morning for gaming n shit.. Then i realized i've wasted my life.. So i try to start doing some yoga and dancing.. My back still hurts from the stretch which i think is sooo gooodd.. I need to realign my posture so i dont look like a grandma at the age of 22.. I believe if i continue, it'll bring awesome benefits for me mentally and physically.. Instructor was awesome. She asked if everyone had any particular concern. She made time to fulfill our needs. Knowing i was a first timer, she also tried to correct me and stuffs.. Not so much though.. :/ i wish she'd correct me more.. But i think she's scared imma get offended or smth.. But yeah.. For several months now my wife and I have been enjoying the Saturday morning yoga classes held at a variety of downtown parks, sponsored by Scripps and the Downtown San Diego Partnership. I have been to two of the Restorative Yoga classes with Missy and I always leave feeling amazing! This is the PERFECT Friday class, especially after a long stressful week. All the poses really give relief to my bad back (Scoliosis). This class is for any skill level. Missy demonstrates all the poses and will help you if you need help or alternatives. I take the Thursday lunch class with Sara. I know her from another studio. She is great. Getting to the dressing room etc. is a bit of a pain (its tucked in a back hallway, part of an artist colony) and is only open a few minutes before class. Best to come in your yoga togs. You might feel odd walking dowtown in them. The room is nice and big and full of light, and there is a nice wood floor and big (albeit cracked) mirrors. In all its a great class, and not to sweaty crazy hot so I get back to work with just enough energy to get through the rest of the day. read more

I dropped into my first class here with pretty much no knowledge of what i was getting into. The instructer was phenomonal. Really easy to follow and took time to help out each person one by one... without calling attention to it :) I hit up the 6pm class... a pretty relaxing yet good workout. You don't have to bring a matt or towel, everything is provided for you. Yoga One is in an easy to get to location, however parking is not so bueno so leave at least 15-20 minutes to find street parking. read more

I've dropped in on the rooftop class and I really love it. Lorena was the instructor and her voice is perfect to listen to while being guided through poses and positions. She is a great instructor and leads the class very well . I've been to a few other classes but I always leave this class feeling refreshed and renewed. This studio is amazing! I started taking classes here in December of 2012 and am now 2 weeks shy of finishing my 200 hour teacher training through them. Amy and Michael are wonderful people, yogis, and teachers. I feel like everything I have learned here is from the best of the best - from the philosophy and training I get with Diana Beardsley all the way to the in depth anatomy training with a licensed physical therapist and a meditation workshop with a meditation teacher and psychotherapist. My brain is literally exploding with information and my body is being grounded through practice. There is nowhere else I would have rather done my training.
