I went here trying to look for good lunch deals, and given that it was near my workplace, I decided to go check it out. The actual space is pretty nice and gives a family restaurant in a good way. It was a little awkward with the waitresses, who seemed to be on the quieter side, but nonetheless, they were kind. I got the abalone in the ponzu sauce ($8) and the wagyu beef sukiyaki lunch set ($21). The abalone was actually really good, and as my first time trying something like that, it was well worth it. The wagyu set was also pretty filling and very much worth the price. It came with a salad, an egg soufflé, sliced lotus root, pickled ginger, and rice. The actual sukiyaki was light and slightly sweet, but refreshing. I love that they packed it with vegetables in the sukiyaki. They even give you a complimentary ice cream at the end of your meal. The only thing that docked a point for me was that one other table, and I was the only one present at the restaurant, and there were two waitresses, and I believe another man was working, not too sure what his role was. All three of them would continuously check up on the other table, whereas I would have to flag them down if I needed anything. I noticed them making small conversation with the other table, but they would not really speak to me. It felt a little weird, given that we were the only two tables and somehow they had three people check up on them, and I had zero. The servers were still nice when I flagged them down, but it was just a little strange to be given that treatment. I'm hoping it was just an off day, as I do want to go back and try the other items. Love love love Iki for lunch! It's a peaceful beautiful restaurant in what can be a pretty hectic downtown area. I find the aesthetic and ambiance to be soothing. Most importantly is their food especially the chirashi/sushi bento boxes which comes with salad, egg custard, miso soup and small pickled sides. It's pretty filling. I always manage to finish everything but my mom who eats like a bird always has extra to bring home. Service is pretty good at restaurant. read more

Looking for a place to eat lunch, we finally dropped in at Iki, a nice looking full service Japanese restaurant. The staff provided excellent service, and they had a pretty extensive moderately priced lunch special menu. I ordered the grilled smoke duck chicken breast. It was a stand alone dish, rice was extra. The chicken slices were perfectly cooked, so tender, they almost melted in your mouth. Loved it. My wife had lamb chops which included soup, rice, and a dessert. My wife didn't offer to share her dessert, but it looked like silky sweet soy bean custard and it definitely looked delicious. Anyway just when I thought you couldn't beat the chicken, the lamb chops absolutely blew me away - not too spicy, not too bland, perfect blend of flavor, yummy. The meal also included complimentary tea and matcha ice cream. However, I did experience one disappointment. I ordered a coke, it was a tiny 8 oz. bottle, ughh. Tucked away in Flushing next to the Hyatt Hotel, Iki Modern Restaurant is a hidden gem worth seeking out. While it's a bit tricky to find at first, the discovery is more than rewarding. If you're facing the Hyatt on 39th Ave, look to the left for a short staircase leading up to the restaurant. The lunch deals here are exceptional. We tried the sushi set, a tender short ribs plate (imported from Japan), and their surprisingly popular catfish set--which I now understand is a favorite. The catfish was delicate, fresh, and carried a clean, oceanic flavor that stood out. But the real star was the wagyu and uni on toast was an absolute highlight of our indulgent meal. We also sampled their lobster with cheese special (a very fair $13 for half, $26 for whole), and if you're feeling luxurious, don't miss their newest menu item: the truffle, foie gras, and caviar don. Each bite was decadent, rich and worth savoring slowly. To top it off, the staff kindly offered us a complimentary dessert. The bird's nest coconut pudding is a must try for the adventurous, if you prefer something more familiar, their standard ice cream is just as satisfying. Service throughout was attentive, tea was quietly refreshed, dishes were cleared promptly and every detail was handled with care. Ive came here many times for thier lunch special and its worth it everytime! I got the katsu set for 18 dollars. It comes woth ice cream, katsu, steamed egg, soup, salad, and some sides with rice. I think its a good deal for what you way for. I also got the shrimp lolipops which comes with four peices and tarter sauce which is good as well. I've been here TWICE because I couldn't believe how good it was the first time and had to go again to double check. The fish is SO high quality here and so good for the price! Honestly I'd pay more for this. The salmon is so BUTTERY and delicious. I've ordered a few different rolls and each one is just as good as the others. All of them are number 1. To top it off, the restaurant is so beautiful on the inside, and the staff is so warm and treats you like family. It's mind of a trek for me to go to flushing but I'd make a trip just for this place alone. read more

Absolutely fell in love with this place - the food, prices, service, and interior were so amazing! Came with friends for lunch and I got their curry tonkatsu set. The curry was very yummy and there were two pork cutlets! Good thing my friends helped me finish that! I wasn't expecting two!!! My goodness!!! It's been nearly a decade since Iki first stepped onto the Flushing dining scene as a hot newcomer, attempting to become the most premium sushi option in the neighborhood. They've set up shop inside of One Fulton Square as a part of the Hyatt Place Hotel and tries to capitalize on the demand the newly affluent residents to what is becoming one of the pricier parts of the borough. The interior is modern but feels less like an upscale sushi spot and feels more like a new'ish Chinese diner with the bright lights, live seafood tanks, and random misspellings on signs and menus. It probably doesn't help that most of the staff is more adept at speaking Mandarin than Japanese, but I digress. A thumbs up for the clean bathrooms. Presentation on the food is solid, but that's about as far as it goes. The food doesn't always live up to the higher price point, but I've maximized my experiences with their omakase. At $100 a person back when they started, I thought this was a fair price tag given the quality. Now it's a bit north of $150 and somehow the quality hasn't improved, which is unfortunate. Their wagyu steak and toro tuna belly sashimi cuts were always my go-tos here, but those items aren't enough to keep my spirits high. I sense that staff might have something to do with it. The chefs in the past fared far better than the ones as of late. I would also venture that for places that are meant to be more upscale should also commensurate with service but it's always been a gamble. There are some days it's close to exceptional but many others where they're just standing around. Ultimately, I hope Iki manages to stick around for a long time. The alternatives to Chinese fare are tough in the downtown area of Flushing and Iki has served as a solid place to spend money and (hopefully) score a nice bit of fish. read more

We were surprised to find that we were not the first customers of the day. We noticed the tanks filled with seafood and were happy to know that the food was incredibly fresh. We also noticed wine and sake bottles used for decorating the restaurant. We ordered the dragon maki roll, okonomiyaki, and bbq short rib lunch set. The bbq short rib lunch set came with rice, miso soup, salad, steamed egg, and some add-ons for the steamed egg. The bbq short rib was our favorite item. In addition, the salad that came with the lunch set was delicious, and their sauce was flavorful. The okonomiyaki had a great mix of different textures as well as sauces; it was sweet and savory. The dragon maki roll had the perfect amount of every ingredient. Also, the complimentary ice cream we got was delicious; we got one red bean and one green tea ice cream. First time here, and I was impressed with how fresh everything is. The hot green tea was also very good and warmed us right up from the cold. The yellowtail and salmon sashimi was my favorite. I am not normally a big fan of yellowtail - but it was so good. They are also not skimpy in terms of their cut. It was the perfect bite every time. We tried the cheesy grilled lobster and although it was small, it was flavorful and a cute bite for something hot. I like how their menu gives you a big range (just in case you wanted something from the kitchen, which we did). The Scallop Uni Fois Gras App was also a great choice - also usually not big on Uni but the light touch of sauce they put on was. We also tried the spicy soft shell crab, and it was just okay - it was very small and it was not my personal fav. Not pictured, and I did not personally try but it was liked by those who ordered it: Spicy Miso Lobster Ramen, Spicy Soft Shell Crab, Testsukuri Yaki Gyoza, Shrimp Tempura Maki. Tip- Seems like they only had two tables for group settings, so make a reservation if you plan to come in a large group. First impression - I had the chirashi lunch set and I thought it was worth the price compared to what I've had before. The $28 chirashi set that I received included the toro & uni chirashi, salmon & yellowtail sashimi (which was probably the chef's daily choice), a small amount of seaweed salad as the side dish, and all the additional items that are listed on their menu (egg custard, salad, miso soup, and ice cream). This was way more filling and worth it compared to the $25 toro roll that I've had elsewhere. My friend had the curry tonkatsu set and lobster roll lunch special, which were both also good. I took away one star because the staff's service was unwelcoming and lackluster. They didn't care to ask if it was our first time here. They brought us steamed egg custard separately from the rest of the lunch set and didn't bother to tell us it was still hot and to be careful. Overall, I think this place is worth giving a second chance if you had a bad experience before, at least for the food. The entrance and location is kind of hidden as it is located all the way at the end of the One Fulton Square outdoor courtyard. I feel like this place has potential and their business could be booming if it were situated in a more conspicuous location. Looking forward to trying the other things on their menu! read more

Okay, I hate to give a bad review especially during the time of covid, but I got to be honest. We weren't planning to eat here, but we ended up deciding to have an early dinner since we were in Flushing. I didn't realize Mister Hotpot closed and I didn't see any good outdoor dining spaces and people were getting hangry and wanted food ASAP and was losing patience. I went to look at this place's menu and nothing spoke to me, but other people were so hungry that they were like okay let's just eat here. Since I wasn't into the menu, I decided not to really order much, because I just wanted things to satiate people's hunger. I want to point out our party had a stroller and it's pretty obvious, but none of the staff here offered or asked if we needed a high chair. My friend had to ask for a high chair after sitting there well over 10 minutes. We shared the following items: Salmon Yuzu Kosho Roll - I didn't order this, so I didn't realize on the menu stated it was seared. I thought it was weird and didn't taste good. Tried on and never came back to it. Kaarage - some were decent and some pieces weren't. Not consistent and not good kaarage either. Caviar and Uni Chawanmushi - OMG, this has to be the worst one I ever tasted. Ootoya makes one that is so much better and all the places in Japan makes this solid. But this place somehow made the entire thing smell super fishy and even the steamed egg tasted fishy. I love steam egg custard and I had to force myself to try a second bite just to make sure I wasn't wrong on the first bite. I don't know how they prepared this, but how can other places have uni and caviar and yet never made the entire thing completely inedible and smell and tasted of fishiness? Pork Gyoza - This is the only thing that I was able to eat. Shrimp Tempura - I don't know, I didn't think anyone could fail at tempura and yet this place did. It wasn't very good. We headed to other places and ordered food to go, because I just couldn't with this food here. The only good thing about this place is the restroom was clean and didn't smell. Tried a lot of food I never had in my life as I was too poor most of my life but now I make very good money thanks to the stock market..... so I went here as it seemed like the food options were very diverse and fancy. I tried wagyu beef , garlic butter whole lobster, wagyu fried mushroom sushi with gold flakes on top, octopus takoyaki, cold yakisoba noodles, karaage, wagyu udon, etc. I ate this with my sister not just me (lol..lot of food) .... I Was blown away how good the quality of food was. To be honest, it is pricey but this is not fast food or regular food that is 10 bucks , these type of foods are luxury it was worth it for sure. I didn't get to take photos of all the food as I was hungry but the presentation and quality was very good. We came on a Friday night because I was craving yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno & ponzu sauce. We came inside just to see how it would be. So glad we did! We were seated promptly. One of the best Japanese spots in Queens! Wow; we were blown away by the food and amazing service. You get so much food for a crazy good price. Everything was very quick. The servers came many times to check on us, answered all of my questions, and was very kind. The food also came out very very quickly. The lunch sets are a steal. You get so many sides and appetizers for a very good price. Everything tasted amazing. I got the kaisen don set and it came with a salad, egg custard, pickled radish, lotus root, oyster, and miso soup. The salad dressing was amazing! Found this Japanese restaurant on Yelp while looking for a place to celebrate my birthday with a friend. We went there for lunch during the week and the place was not crowded. Surprisingly it is pretty spacious inside and the interior is also nice, and since there are many fish tanks in the middle of the restaurant, it gives the feels of mid-fancy Chinese restaurant rather than Japanese restaurant lol. We ordered Seaweed salad, Live Scallop sushi, Fire King Salmon sushi and Uni Foie Gras Toasts as appetizers. Sushi set and Udon set as main meal. The food was better than expected. I love Uni Foie Gras Toasts the most. It is priced at $22 for 2 pieces (see photo), which is a bit pricey imo. As for the service, the manager and our waiter were not as friendly, the way they acted towards us came out a bit impolite and unfriendly. They could have smiled at least. The waitress serving us green tea was really nice though, she would check on our cups and always made sure they were full. I would go back again and try some other things on the menu. I'm kind of shocked that I never wrote a review for Iki, I've been here many times over the years since they've opened. TLDR: Modernistic Japanese cuisine. Tasty but pricey. Good place for an expense kind of dinner if you're in the area or... if you just got it going on like that. I started eating here late nights for sushi/sashimi. I've done their tasting menu once and I will say - it's very lux type of dining. It is a lot of food. The tasting menu was $95 when I went. Their cooked dishes are more of their strong point IMO. Noteworthy recommendations though are the Scallop with Foie Gras and Maitake Mushroom. I actually crave this quite often, it's an expensive appetizer for $12 but the execution is flawless. The Uni Foie Gras Toast, that's around $20 if I remember. The Spicy Lobster, circling around $35~ or so. It is damn good though. The sushi and sashimi is decent, probably better quality for the area but if you don't mind the travel - I think there are better options to be found in Manhattan or further East in Queens. read more

Food is pretty good here. The sushi was very fresh. We got the lunch box specials, there's a note on the menu that there's a $2 surcharge on the lunch special prices. I think it's still a good deal for the price. Their steamed egg is to die for, it's always so delicious and smooth. The service is alright. Some of the waiters are very nice, others are okay. One of them brought us the check before we got our ice cream. We thought maybe we would get it after we paid. But we ended up having to remind them about it, he didn't seem phased, I guess it's not the first time it's happened. But no big deal, we got it very quickly after that.
