I'm a rather huge fan of General Tso's, so it's often enough the first thing I try with any restaurant that offers it. It varies just a little bit, but whoever makes it on Saturday gets the exact consistency necessary for the sauce. The frying is also done expertly too, it's like the only Tso's in Pittsburgh that's actually crispy. Being new in the area, I wanted to look for a nice sushi place in Pittsburgh. Thank god I came across this restaurant because this is my go to spot in the future. The owner is super nice and welcoming, making me feel like I'm back in my hometown. The restaurant itself is located in a nice area and has a lot of shopping stores nearby- perfect to shop after eating a nice lunch/dinner! I ordered a few rolls and the presentation of the food was PHENOMENAL. The thought and effort put into my lunch was much appreciated and I haven't seen this ever. I was looking for a good sushi platter and spicy tuna roll. I will say that the sashmi was fresh, had yellow tail, tuna, salmon, mackerel, red snapper, and all pieces were fresh and not fishy. I like to compare spicy tuna rolls as a standard and I will say that this one was good nothing fancy about but definitely a satisfying bite. I've got to say, this place was amazing, the service was incredible. It was a party of the 7 of us and were greeted very fast and politely. He quickly brought out water and asked took our orders of appetizers after. After we finished all the appetizers, he helped clear our table to make room for a giant plate if sushi, it was basically the size of a table for two. The presentation was beautiful and the waiter and sushi chef wished us a happy meal, whenever we needed to order more drinks, he quickly got it for us which means alot to me. I normally do not write bad reviews, but am motivated by the obviously fake reviews here that are glowing, and from out of town accounts with one review. The place is a disorganized mess. Not very busy but everything slow slow and chaotic. The only staff were a few young people, likely the owner's kids, who appear to have never before worked in a restaurant. Maybe never been in a restaurant. The food was bland and generic, think low end food court; there might not be a "chef" other than a microwave and can opener. Yoshino is one of the best Japanese places in town! I wouldn't say the quality of the ingredients was on par with more expensive options like Diners 2+1 or Umi, but in terms of bang for your buck and flavor Yoshino is one of the best. I got the salmon poke bowl, and was pleasantly surprised with the flavor and amount I got. I think it cost $16, and going by my usual experience with Japanese food I thought I would only be half full, but I was actually very full by the end of my meal. Yoshino is a wonderful Pan-Asian restaurant in Shadyside with an extensive hot food and sushi menu. I had the very flavorful mee goreng noodle dish with a philadelphia roll. Delicious! Service was friendly and quick. They informed us the restaurant will soon have a liquor license (byob for now), so we'll be sure to come back to enjoy tasty foods and beverages.
