Yoshino had a great selection of maki, and if you don't go for the crazy "specialty" rolls, the prices were also quite reasonable. What I appreciated most was even the normal maki used really thick whole pieces, whether it was salmon or yellowtail or tuna. It's been a long time since I've had roti canai. and I've been craving it lately. Yoshino is known for their sushi, but they also serve this dish, among other items like Chinese classics, some Thai food, noodles, lots of appetizers, and more. I tried their shrimp egg roll, classic egg roll, pork dumplings, and roti canai. The egg rolls were relatively standard. I believe they gave me the wrong ones, though. I believe I received a spring roll with shrimp and an egg roll with pork (not what I originally ordered). Still, they were pretty tasty. Not much shrimp in the shrimp roll. The egg roll was decent in size but a bit on the expensive side. Flavor is very standard, goes well with some of the complimentary sauces. I even dipped it in my leftover curry sauce. The pork dumplings were extremely disappointing. The only genuinely tasty part of these dumplings was the sauce. They were far too doughy and thick. The inside was odd and slimy. The pork was not raw, but seemed to be undercooked a bit. The smell was similar to peanuts and just strange. Flavor was terrible. Would not recommend. The roti Canai, however, was very good. I would go here just for some roti Canai, since it's difficult to find here in Pittsburgh. The roti portion was great and the bread was well made (great texture, oiliness level, and flavor). The dipping sauce/curry was excellent. A bit sweet and coconutty, and paired so well with the roti. I just don't understand why they put the roti on some wilted lettuce (no one is going to eat that lettuce, its irrelevant to the dish and it's just a waste). All in all, this place is known for sushi, and maybe that is their strength. But, their Chinese staples like egg rolls and dumplings are definitely lacking. If you come here, try the roti Canai (its very tasty and difficult to find in this area). Prices are a bit on the high side. read more

Yum!! We came for sushi and we're very satisfied. The restaurant was clean and charming. The service was kind and quick. We got the Maki 3 combo, Mount Everest Roll, King of Flower Roll, and the Flower Roll. All of them were delicious. The salmon in the flower rolls were really was the star. It was fresh, fatty and made our mouth water. The spicy tuna roll was a little heavy on the wasabi where it took away from the taste of the tuna. Service was very fast and our server was very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the salmon avocado roll, spicy tuna roll and flower roll. We also enjoyed our salmon and tuna sashimi. The only thing that was not quite up to the standard of everything else was the white tuna, which wasn't very good. It seemed like it was maybe old or just not very good slices of fish because there was almost a crumbly texture on the top layer. This place has nice vibes inside but the food was only OK. We liked the service here and the fact that it was pretty quiet and empty. The pork fried rice was very bland but it looked like they used a lot of soy sauce. The sushi was mediocre too. It will do it if you need to hit that sushi craving, but the spicy tuna roll was not it. There wasn't a whole lot of flavor and the fish was not very good. The shrimp tempura roll is really good and I liked the spicy crab. I like that they have maki combos here, but we spent $60 with tip on two maki combos and a pork fried rice. I always walked by this restaurant but finally decided to dine in. Thank goodness my husband and I dined in, the food is delicious! Everything on their menu is fantastic. They have a large menu that includes a variety of menu items from sushi to Chinese food entree plates. I highly recommend their sushi, their sushi is delicious and by far one of the best sushi places we have been too in Pittsburgh thus far. Their rolls are not stuff with a lot of rice, which is one of my pet peeves, when you have such little fish inside the roll surrounded with a lot of white rice. Their sushi rolls are made perfectly, right amount of white rice. The fish is fresh and delicious. Also, lets talk about how beautiful they design their sushi plates when they arrive to the table. The sushi plates are adorned with flowers and beautiful designs with sauces. Great service every time we dine in and we are always sat quickly with our food arriving promptly. Overall, great service, restaurant is very nice inside and the food is delicious. Particularly, their sushi! They have a large menu variety with Poke bowls, ramen, and chinese and Thai food dishes. Usually when you order anything to go you don't always get the best quality. I'm not sure how much better this poke bowl would've been had I dined in but I know my take out was wonderful. They have multiple protein options you can choose from to add to your poke bowl. It was very filling and fresh. It consist of Salmon, rice, shredded cucumbers, avocado, ginger, seaweed and wasabi. We were celebrating BCs Bday and I felt I was the lucky one, celebrating at such a nice place. I ordered through the site and they had it ready before the estimated time in 15m during dinner hours on a Thursday! The portion sizes are generous, food is hot and fresh, and the veggies are fresh. The vegetable tempura is made with panko and doesn't have the light, fluffy crunch that I'm looking for with tempura, so I likely won't reorder. The amount of tempura for the price, though, is excellent compared to other spots in the area. There's more than enough vegetarian options to keep me coming back and trying new things every time. I got lunch at Yoshino recently with friends. They are a fusion restaurant in Shadyside that has a wide variety of Chinese, Thai and Japanese dishes. We ordered an appetizer of the Tako Yaki (rice balls with octopus) and my Japanese friend said it was authentic. We really enjoyed it. The Shrimp Ramen was good, not the best I've ever had though. The Eel Avocado Roll was really tasty. It came out on such a pretty, floral platter. It was so nice to be able to eat out after lots of takeout over the past year. The ambience felt a little odd because they were playing jazz music that either sounded like telephone line waiting music or baby making music... I came on a hot day for some sushi dinner and thought the sushi overall was pretty decent and the quality of the fish were good. I've always been a fan of scallop sushi and the scallops I got today were very sweet and tasty. My order came at a reasonable time but it took a long time for the wait staff to come to our table to take our orders at the beginning. Wandered in this place on a whim on a Tuesday night. The menu is an interesting mix of American Chinese, Japanese, and Thai. I'm always skeptical about places that have a broad menu that spans multiple cuisines but have to say the food was decent. We ordered miso soup, fried dumplings, and general tsos and happily ate it all. Service wa great and the restaurant wasn't packed, everyone masked appropriately. I am taking off a star because it was good but not great. Didn't have the best experience this time at Yoshino. For a sushi combo, a dragon roll, fried rice, and dumplings, it came out to be almost $80. And the quality definitely didn't live up to the price. The dumplings were SUPER doughy and not even cooked all the way, and when we went to try the meat it tasted like breakfast sausage rather than pork from a pork dumpling. We asked our waitress to kindly take these off the bill for us. The fried rice, which was not pictured, had no flavor to it what so ever. And even trying to add more soy sauce defeated the purpose of the dish and made it taste just like soy sauce. This was again a little disappointing. The sushi however was pretty good, and this is definitely what I would stick to when ordering from here! The nigiri had small rice balls which the fish was placed on, where at other places they give you so much rice that it ruins the experience! Definitely stick with sushi when coming here! read more
