Any Asian American growing up in SoCal in the late 90s through the 2010s has fond memories of Yoshinoya. I used to eat here at least once a month. Sadly, there aren't many around anymore, especially down in SD where I now live. Which leads to my review. Considering I haven't had Yosh in about five years, I'm not sure if the critique is of this location or the franchise as a whole but I was sorely disappointed this evening. I drove 20 minutes out of my way to come to this location because I had a hankering for a nostalgic beef bowl and it was the closest to my house. I ordered the xl bowl instead and what you see in the picture is what I got. Not even enough beef to cover the rice and the rice underneath was surprisingly sparse. I don't know if they've cut down on their portions but I got the same amount of meat as a regular bowl back in the day. I should've known when the employee handed me the bag because it was light as a feather. They also didn't give me any sauce or shichimi until I asked (after the employer closed the window on me). When I did, she gave me a ton of shichimi so one star for that. I don't think the picture does justice to how little food there was in the container. Oh well. I guess it'll be another five years until I come back to Yosh, if it's still around. read more

I have visited this location twice, and unfortunately, the customer service has been consistently disappointing. Ximena and another young woman, who may have been the manager, were both unprofessional when I tried to resolve an issue with my order. Based on other reviews, it seems little has been done to address the ongoing customer service concerns at this location. I will be contacting corporate to file a formal complaint in hopes that meaningful improvements are made. While the food is good, it is not worth dealing with this level of poor customer service. When the workers treat your minor requests, such as a cup of water with a eye roll, you know you're not getting anything good. I ate here twice and had the same tone of service. The food is not your traditional experience and this restaurant chain, and the food quality is not good. They got my order wrong in both instances as well. I just brought my kids to eat because they said they wanted to try something new and different I spent 47$ on food and went up for two packets of teriyaki sauce and the manager Luis said that they charge for teriyaki sauce after I spent nearly $50 on two bowls and a plate and he had attitude while telling me no so I do not recommend this place. Why does the app asks the customer what condiments they prefer? When the person working the drive thru forgets or doesn't read the order. I've never got anything i asked for for a online pickup orde. I live in San Diego and were limited to just 2 stores the one in Chila Vista and the Spring Valley store. Stingy portion and stingy employees who don't recognized the patrons visiting the store with a greeting. Rude employees, stingy portions and rotten customer service. Next time i will go to the Chula Vista store although it out of my way. Because the Spring Valley store really gives Yoshinoya a bad name due to inadequate and rude employees. read more

I had an amazing experience at Yoshinoya. The service was excellent, the food was fresh and delicious, and the entire team was friendly and welcoming. A special compliment to General Manager Edgar. It is clear that he runs the restaurant very smoothly and keeps everything operating efficiently, even during busy times. His employees work well together, communicate respectfully, and create a positive atmosphere that makes customers feel comfortable and at ease while enjoying their meal. As someone stopping in during a busy workday, it was refreshing to enjoy lunch in such a calm and well-managed environment. The way Edgar treats and leads his employees is a great example of how every general manager should lead a team. This Yoshinoya is difficult to get to and parking is extremely limited. The food is overpriced for the amount of meat that they give you on your bowl. While I realized that prices are high on food right now and the price of beef is high, 1 Oz of beef on a bowl filled with rice is ridiculous. I am confused as to why anyone would go here? This is long overdue.The reason I keep coming back here it's because I like the food however the customer service is terrible. So around 11 am I ordered through drive thru. The last person who was helping me said no good morning, just straight to are you ready to place your order. I said good morning yes I am ready since I ordered my usual. 1 large protein chicken teriyaki no rice just veggie. This time I added the shrimp tempura. I pulled up the window the lady who was helping me from the drive thru " for the tempura shrimp it will take awhile for you still want it!?" Since she's was rude from the beginning and I feel like she didn't wanna make it, I said it's okay you can cancel that the she told me my total and I paid. Can't believe I've slept on trying this place for so long. I tried the Habanero grilled chicken rice bowl and got a side of tempura shrimp. Good price at 2 for $2.50. The shrimp tasted fresh, batter delicious. I used cocktail sauce I had at home, the combo was incredible. The Habanero sauce in the bowl was great with the rice and some ginger sticks I asked for. Definitely going back. However, I also got the clam chowder. It tasted great too but my only complaint is that the portion was way too small. If I had dined in I would've complained and asked them to fill the small cup more than barely half full. read more

I enjoy this place, but the in-store customer service from one staff member is consistently unwelcoming. There's no greeting, and the attitude feels cold and unfriendly. I've even avoided going in person because of it. I hope this feedback helps improve the customer experience, because it really does affect whether customers want to return. Yoshinoya always brings back memories--I grew up with it, and now that I live in Texas, I really crave the original beef and chicken combo whenever I'm back in California. I don't usually judge fast food by location ratings since the expectations are pretty universal, but as with any restaurant, service and food quality can vary. Really bad service at this location. I've tried returning to see if maybe the workers had an off day like everyone does. But I've came back atleast 3 times since and every time the service is very poor. Not to mention the drive through service. I think they go catch and clean the chicken because I waited over 15min. Sometimes I get a real craving for their noodles and original beef. It has a really great flavor. I picked up a big combo for some friends and I to split, along with some appetizers. While I know they're usually pretty decent, this last time I went, it was a little burnt. But that's okay I know I'll be back. Horrible customer service from Ximena and whatever lousy of a manager was working with her 5/08 PM. We paid 8.99 for a teriyaki bowl that was on a promotion to include a drink and spring roll. We saw the ad, so went ahead and ordered 2. They made us wait in the parking lot. When our food finally came, we asked why we didn't receive our drinks and spring rolls. Their exact words were "you didn't specify you wanted the promotion." My answer to that is, if it's the exact same price for a regular bowl AND the promotion, why is it a huge deal to adjust it and give us what we paid for? They kept insisting that I didn't verbally specify I wanted the promotion even though it was displayed on all their windows and the menu. It's likely because they're lazy and really don't care about their jobs. I'm shocked how someone who has zero logic or can't do math has the title "manager." As we're explaining what's wrong, she proceeds to cut us off and says "have a good day." This is how these people end up where they're at!
