I recently had lowlights, highlights and a shadow root done on my hair. The colorist, Michael, told me the color is permanent. I have photos that were taken after my hair was done. After just one wash, it all faded and the shadow root is now a brassy orange color and the lowlights faded. I used an excellent color care product. I walked into the salon to show this to them. The receptionist looked at my hair and saw the issue. She told me they would do a "redo" and presented 2 dates/choices to me for the redo. I made a choice but later found out I would not be able to come in on that day 7/20. When I called the salon to ask to change my appt to 7/24, the woman who answered the phone said that date is still available but I'd be charged. She immediately became confrontational and kept rapidly talking over me not letting me to get one word in edgewise. Bad day or too much caffeine? The way she spoke to me was frightening. I asked her to please let me speak and asked her name. She refused to give her name and then hung up on me! I tried calling back and the next woman that answered was very rude as well and said: "Call the manager this afternoon" and also hung up on me! How unprofessional is this? Why would I call back or step back into this salon after being treated like this? The service that I paid for was $324 including tip. I read other reviews where other customers were also treated poorly and hung up on! I did not get what I paid for. To the Owner: We need to settle this. Please refund my money immediately. read more

Dulce was wonderful, she understood that I wanted a change in my hair color, gave informed and sound advice, and was great to chat with as she gave me my root touch up and lovely hand and neck massage with essential oils. The missing "star" would be for the salon itself, scratches on the arms of the chairs and the cabinets could use a bit of a touch up, and it is a bit on the pricey side. read more

I also discovered during the pandemic that my hair's been wavy all along and I had no idea what to do for it aside from experimenting with various hair products. Dulce was my stylist for the day and not only did she give me a fantastic haircut, she also helped me with styling tips for my wavy hair (without pushing extra products on me). I have a hard time trusting new salons, but this one won me over! I was looking forward to some Aveda tea which I didn't get, but I'm assuming that because of the pandemic, they've put it on pause. Great experiences here every time! I have yet to get my hair colored, but every cut has been great! I went to a couple of stylists because I never plan ahead and am always trying to get an appointment at the last minute, leaving me with whoever happens to be available. They were all good. But my favorite thus far has been Lyndsy. When I wanted bangs, she just got me on a deep level and understood exactly the style and level of maintenance I could handle. I've been planning ahead a little better ever since and I'm super happy with the service. Side note: if you have a flaky scalp, they have a great shampoo called Scalp Benefits. It's the only shampoo I can use that helps my dry scalp! Totally worth the money if you have that problem. read more

I waited a week before writing this review because I hate writing bad reviews and I kept telling myself I'll adjust to this terrible haircut. I'm not a picky person. Paying ~$60 - $80 for a professional haircut is to be expected. What I did not expect was paying $60 for a MASTER stylist to chop off my hair into chunks within 10 minutes. 10 minutes, it took her less than 10 minutes to cut my hair. I am so so so upset. I used to come here all the time when I lived in UTC and it didn't stop me from coming here anyway when I lived in hell hole Mira Mesa, but just the other day, while I was driving to San Diego to meet up with my husband on my day off, he got me a gift certificate to come here and I was thrilled. I always feel relaxed after my facial and usually they give me scalp massage while my mask is drying and even give me limb massage on my arms and legs and feet. It's really relaxing and everyone there is just really friendly. You wouldn't think you would be relaxed when you see it in the plaza, but I promise you, it's worth the visit. read more

I've been getting my hair done by different hairstylist since the first time I went and I really like the outcome. I usually get a deep conditioning treatment, hair gloss (toner), root touch up and cut. Everytime they do an amazing job. I really like the Aveda line, I guess it's better for your hair since it's all natural. The last time I went they scheduled my appointment wrong not giving the stylist enough time to do everything I wanted but the stylist still managed to make it work. Carly is my favorite colorist EVER. If I could give her 10 stars, I would. I have had my hair colored at many salons across the US, including many upscale shops in Miami and NYC, and Carly is still my favorite. Now I refuse to go anywhere else for color. She has amazing attention to detail and knows exactly how to apply color so that it doesn't look stripey or brassy. My brunette hair with subtle bronde (blonde + brown, get it?!) highlights always looks great after Carly colors it. It grows out evenly so that I don't have to constantly recolor. Also the Aveda products are kinder and less damaging to ones hair. The Young Attitudes Aveda Salon is located in La Jolla Village Square next door Paper Source. They should rename the salon, The Bang Salon (insert joke here -- actually, please don't)...because this is SCISSORS DOWN the best place to go in San Diego/La Jolla to get a fringe trim whether you're maintaining your cut or have decided to take the plunge and get a new chic style with Bangs like Zooey (look this video up on YouTube if you don't know what I'm talking about). Tara is the rock star here for bang trims, and comes recommended by the salon if you are cutting brand new bangs. My first experience here was in October 2012, where I asked Tara to cut and style artificial Ken Paves clip-in bangs. She did a fantastic job -- the other stylists as well as friends seeing it up close could not tell they were fake because she made them look so natural! Soon after, I returned to get my real bangs cut and am amazed every time by her skill! She layers them slightly, knows exactly how to thin them out when they grow out, and knows how to keep the edges natural. I'm sure if you wanted a blunt Bettie Page style she could do that too. If you regularly get your bangs trimmed (a $10 service) with her, she told me that she'll also take care of you complimentary for that "in-between" time when you don't yet need a full bang trim. And if you are a regular with getting full haircuts with her, then the bang trims are always free. The salon is always busy so call ahead for an apointment. I was running late for a bang trim w/Tara over the weekend, and the salon accommodated me with another stylist Codie, who was also exceptional at trimming bangs! A good bang trim is hard to find elsewhere, but at Young Attitudes, it's one of their specialties! Both Tara and Codie are bang trim experts and very receptive to listening to the customer, even if you are shy about asking "Can you take off a little bit more on the side?" read more

I have been going here for a while and generally had good experiences, but I recently got my hair highlighted in preparation for a vacation and I was not happy with the result. She highlighted my hair almost to my roots when I didn't show her any pictures of that, and some pieces were thick and streaky. When I voiced my concerns she said that I usually wear my hair curly so I won't notice. I also asked for balayage and she did foil and told me it was cheaper, but in retrospect it makes me feel like she probably didn't know how to do balayage. I called the salon to cancel my next appointment and told them I was unhappy with my last cut/color. She said the owner would call me but she never did. The worst hair experience I have ever had. My stylist, Valorie, toned my hair too dark where you couldn't see any of the dye she put in my hair because it blended into my natural hair. She told me I could come back if it didn't lighten after a few days, I can back and when I asked for it to be lightened she said she couldn't do that without charging me the full service fee again (over $200). She said she could add lighter highlights so it is more noticeable and all she did was put two hideous bright blond streaks in the front of my brunette hair. I'm so sad, worst service ever, and now I have to walk around with hideous hair and colors I never asked for. Do NOT come to this salon. I got a woman's haircut, I have short hair, just a trim. They say they will charge you $55-70, so just expect that they will charge you the $70 for a trim. Really overpriced for a trim. Went here for the first time and came away very happy. I had my hair done by Brittany, who was friendly and knowledgeable about the products in the shop. So be clear, they are a private salon that uses Aveda products exclusively. My haircut started off with a scalp massage, which is always a great way to start. This was followed up by a wash and trim. She thinned out my hair and it turned out well. I didn't really have an idea of what I wanted when I went in. I usually wear the asian spike where you push it all forward and then press the front up. She gave me a new look that I'll have to see if I can recreate tomorrow. But my hair looks less poofy and I've received several comlements on it already. Hooray! read more

I got my haircut with Cynthia and I have to tell everyone that it was the best haircut I have ever had in my entire life. If you want something that is trendy and edgy but subtle, Cynthia is the best. For the first time in my life, I felt like a hairstylist took time to do my hair and make sure I was comfortable. She took my hair (that was so long, it went to my lower back), and transformed it into a really cute and groomed haircut. Also, they don't charge you up the butt for the quality of the stylist so I got a great price for my haircut. The staff here are super nice and the haircut is pretty inexpensive. The experience is worth every penny. Got greeted with warm tea or water and each staff member ensured that we were comfortable. When getting the cut, they do a scalp and shoulder/neck massage with a whiff of essential oils and then they proceed to wash your hair, which obviously has more scalp massage.
