I have ordered a number of beautiful plaques for each of my grandsons as they graduated from Dakota High School. They were brilliantly designed and carefully provided with the extra touch and special meanings for each of them. Today I picked up a special plaque for a forever friend and I came into Mike's shop to pick it up and again I was overwhelmed with the product he picked and the manner in which the design captured the special feelings I have for my close friend. I was excited to see what this would look like and again I was so pleased with Mike's work of art. I would recommend anyone who wants to make a special message to their immediate family or friends that this is the specialist who over achieves in most everything he provides for long term customers like myself. Young bowling has been around since the dawn of time. The current owner (Mike Lucich) has been there for quite some time as well. Needless to say, he knows his shit. I went here to buy a bowling ball & bag because my girlfriend signed us up for a league. I didn't really know what to get, because I didn't know much about bowling. Thankfully, Mike was more than willing to explain everything I could possibly want to know. My girlfriend and I ended up purchasing two balls (custom drilled), and two bags. Mike is a pro and really knows bowling. He is also not afraid to tell you about it. I probably talked to him for about 2 hours straight the first time I was there. I learned all sorts of things about the history of bowling in Detroit, how long the shop had been there, hot-shot bowling legends that Mike used to play with, etc. He is a chatty guy. This is not a bad thing - Mike is as nice and genuine as they come. But be prepared to talk! Anyway, I knock off one star because the shop isn't really all that big and doesn't have a huge selection in store, but he has tons of catalogs and distributors he can get stuff from. He had a really quick turnaround on the ball I ordered. I think I went in there on a Saturday, and he had the ball drilled and ready to be picked up on Monday night. I highly recommend this place if you need any sort of bowling equipment/advice. read more

I got a trophy engraved. Something that simple took weeks. The other review said Mike the owner knows his shit. He sure as hell doesn't know how to treat or talk to people!! Every time I went in or called it wasn't done (for weeks). Very rude to me and always had an excuse. Even told me it would be done a few times and it wasn't once I got there, yet somehow I was treated as if it were my fault. Finally I just went up there after about 2 weeks and said I'm taking my trophy engraved or not, he did it in 3 minutes right then and there, of course with a child like attitude. I'd recommend taking your business elsewhere, he may "know his shit" about bowling, but knows nothing about customer service and engraving! read more

I first came to Young Bowling & Trophy over forty years ago to have my ball re-drilled. A friend had given me the ball and it didn't fit right. The owner, Mike Lucich, carefully measured my hand, my grip, whether I wanted a full finger tip or semi finger tip. I was new to the game and Mike was very helpful in his suggestion to go to a full finger tip grip. The rest is history. The ball fit perfectly and I no longer had a bleeding thumb. He explained that the pitch was all wrong, putting my thumb in an awkward position. Since that time, I have purchased every ball I've ever owned from him and even recommended him to many of my friends. I have bowled thirteen '300' games, one '800' series, and many other ABC and USBC honor scores. Mike doesn't just drill three holes in a ball. He takes the time to make sure that it will fit, number one, as well as perform on the lanes as I want it. He is well informed with all the different types of balls that have come out over the years, and is always ready to recommend a particular ball for my needs. Went in there to get a ball drilled. The guy started bitching about how he had to fix his machine and how he has this customer now that is buying shoes and a ball and a bag. It was also hotter than hell in his shop. We left. Went to another pro shop and got in it done in 15 minutes. I would not recommend this place. read more
