Found this place by accident when driving to Dangerous Man taproom. Beautiful glass facade and warmly designed interior drew us in. Food was also excellent...we focused on the Korean style plates...kimchi meatballs, grilled (lamb?) skewers. Grilled brussel sprouts were nicely done. Compared to pizzeria lola: -It has a neat waiting space in the front that is much bigger and comfortable than that back area that lola has -Same quality pizza with the addition of some delicious appetizers and veggies -You can make reservations here! Note: even if the place is completely booked, try doing a walk in. My friends and I went (group of 5) around 515p on a weekday and we got a table around 30-45 min later (they told us an hour wait). Great new restaurant in NE Minneapolis. Salad, cauliflower, pizza and deserts all fabulous. Even our son loved all the vegetables.

My sister lives around the corner from Young Joni and we were super excited to check it out. We walked in around 6 and sat at the bar. Bartender was super friendly and chatted with us. He had great recommendations and was very knowledgeable about the menu. We had a salad that was light and delicious- a kind of butter lettuce (?) with toasted pepitos, onions, and an amazing cheese thinly sliced on it. The pizza was stellar! While it was hard to choose from several great options, we went for the korean BBQ pizza. Amazing! There were several menu items we saw other diners eat that I can't wait to try next time. We finished off with a trio of mini ice cream cones. Homemade- vanilla, pistachio, and vanilla with homemade "magic shell". Super fun! Finding the front door handle was tricky, but we weren't the only one. Great decor. Felt like we were in Brooklyn. read more

Don't go if you have a party of three at 6:15 PM. On a Thursday night, we were told there would be a 45 minute wait to sit at the "community table". There were visible open tables throughout the dining room. We were advised to come at 4 PM next time. Luckily there are several more welcoming restaurants on the block. Pizza here was great! We shared a margherita and a YOLO. I'm invariably a meat-pizza lover but have to admit the margherita was particularly good here and a testament to quality pizza making. The crust is thin, crispy and chewy in all the right ways, the sauce has a nice sort of sweet-smoky flavor, and the toppings are top notch and plentiful. I shared a pizza with one other person and left a bit hungry still. If you're coming in with a big appetite, one pizza per person is a good thing to keep in mind as you're ordering. This is probably one of the best restaurants in Minneapolis. Their food is amazing, priced well, and advantageous to the meat and vegetarian eater. Unfortunately, if you enjoy a good glass of wine, this might not be the place for you! The selection is not very good but most appalling is the fact that we paid $14.00 for a 5 oz. pour. The backbar was absolutely incredible. The drinks were superb and well-crafted. The bartenders were amazing - even made us custom drinks after asking our preferences. Very well thought and well delivered. I would give the backbar 6/5 stars if I could. That being said, Young Joni was an absolute disappointment. While the pizza was good and creative, the service was some of the worst I've ever experienced. They try to drive customers in with the long line that presents itself as exclusive when really it is not. I'm not sure if they are short staffed or do not care about customer satisfaction but the wait is miserable. There was a 2 hour wait at 8:30 pm, but there were at least 5 empty tables at all times. I know from experience that there is very high turnover in pizza restaurants due to the short cook time so there is never an excuse for a 2 hour wait, especially with two huge wood fires ovens that allow for multiple pizzas to be cooked in 4-8 minutes each. The waiters/waitresses were also very rude and not accommodating. When we asked for status we were shrugged off as we were unimportant. If it wasn't already past 9:30 pm we would have taken our business elsewhere. Overall, the pizza was trendy, but would not be back. You are better off enjoying the company and service of the bottom bar while ordering a plain pizza downstairs. read more

It's definitely better than its sister restaurant, Lola. The Ambiance is much nicer, I believe the food better, and it's a lot bigger so one would expect to be able to get a table in less time. However an interesting thing happened to me last time we were there (on a Tuesday at 6PM). There were no more reservations left online but we were going earlier in the evening so we thought we would risk it. When I showed up at the restaurant it was almost half empty and I inquired about a table. As usual, they only seat complete parties. I inquired if I could put my name in and that my other 2 guests would be arriving in 10 minutes. They took my name down I was the only person waiting for a half empty restaurant. My guest arrived 10 minutes later we went to the front counter and we were told that we had a 45-minute wait even though there were still a number of tables open. We ended up waiting over an hour with no other people having joined the waiting list. Again, the food was above average, the cocktails were just average, the desserts were okay as well but I wouldn't go back without having a reservation. I know they say that they reserved certain number of tables for walk-ins but since I was the only walk in within an hour I don't know if I think that's true. read more

The food here is excellent, and so are the bartenders. However, don't come here without a reservation 8 weeks in advance. You may be first on the list, but they'll push you down the list just because you ask them how long it will take. I waited two hours for a table and was promised a real one but was asked in the end to sit on a shared table because they suddenly had a 10pm reservation they were not aware of. The vibe of this place is so good! The food? Even better! We had the grilled prawns, spare ribs and short ribs. YUM!! Quantities are not meant for sharing. The wait is long but you can seat yourself at the bar or the communal table( which i think was very smart use of the space. Excellent layout of the restaurant. Its cozy and well utilized space). As for the pizza, we got the Umami Mama and it was good but not something i would go for next visit. I personally felt maybe arugula would have gone very well with the toppings. It's really nice that everyone is supporting Ann Kim but when I finally got to this place and even she lurked around the place disappointed I mean come on. The design of the space is down right uncomfortable instead of welcoming or relaxing. Got there an hour early to be able to go to the ally bar for a drink and literally got forced backward out the door by the rudest host, a lady on the other side of the door asked "did you get yelled at to?" Went back in the restaurant to that bar but it's so small you can't get to it, three bartenders leaning on the bar talking, weren't trying at all to sell a drink I had to flag one down and then was disappointed with the basic specialty menu. We stood there in everyone's way because of the terrible flow of the floor when finally the host came to seat us she put us at the reserved counter that we were standing next to and had been open for one solid hour; are you kidding me? The cooks standing in front of the fire kept dripping sweat on the food prep area. Service was slow. Waited 45 min for 2 pizzas that were cold and totally blah. Ended up spending $70 for literally nothing good but the cider that was on tap. I never get out on a Saturday night so when I did I had high expectations and they where totally crushed. read more

I've been trying to visit this place for at least a year. We finally decided to give it a try on a whim late at night. The wait was still long, but well worth it! The Palomas were great. The ribs were an amazing appetizer. We ordered the YOLO and La Parisienne. Both were good, but La Parisienne was the best thing I've ever tasted! I don't even like arugula, but this was fantastic! We were SUPER excited to try this place after the raving reviews from our friends so I booked reservations a few weeks ago for my boyfriend's birthday. Thankfully we were warned about the door handle and we prepared ourselves to avoid embarrassment. Although we had hoped someone would be leaving right as we were entering so we wouldn't have to fumble to find the handle, that didn't happen. BUT, I found it with ease and all was good in the world. The decor is cabin-ey rustic chic, warm and inviting. The exposed beams, floor to ceiling shelving, and expertly placed foliage, flowers and accent decor prove that there was attention to detail in the designing of the space. I love the book-style menus and the mismatched plates, as they offer a throwback-type feel but tie the overall ambiance together seamlessly. We were sat immediately, unfortunately in a high traffic area right by the kitchen, so there was constant bustle at our backs. The restaurant was full, including the bar, so we did not see an opportunity to change tables so we sucked it up. We were greeted a few seconds after being seated by our server. She was friendly and prompt and shared details about many of her favorite menu items. Our drinks arrived and we conversed awhile. After perusing the menu, we landed on the cauliflower, YOLO pizza and Korean BBQ pizza, all to share. The cauliflower came out within about 10 minutes of ordering and it looked great. The flavors were awesome and it was some of the best tasting cauliflower I've ever had. The big bummer was that it was just warm, not hot, and even pretty cold around the perimeter. It had clearly been sitting out for awhile before delivery. The pizzas arrived after the cauliflower was gone and they looked awesome. Plenty of toppings and we couldn't wait to dig in! The ingredients were perfect complements of each other and the flavors were great. But, ahhhhhhhhh, nooooo, I hate to say it, again a big bummer.... both of the pizzas were also warm and not hot. The Korean BBQ pizza in particular was nearly cold and the center crust of the pizza was a little soggy (wouldn't support itself when being held and just limped over). We all know that pizza in general is at its prime when hot out of the oven and this particular situation created a lackluster experience in terms of food quality. Big disappointment because the flavors were so good... and also a big bummer because we both hate complaining (so to avoid confrontation and excess time at the table, we didn't complain). We opted to package the rest, grabbed a couple of photo booth tickets and went on our merry way to the back bar (super cool, great bartenders, must-see!). All in all, the experience was fair and the main damper was that both of our meal courses came out warm/cold. I understand the situation could have been amended if we brought it up then and there, but that calls for awkward conversation and confrontation that we strongly dislike. Plus, I believe it should be right upon initial delivery. I hope this was a one off situation because we'd like to give this place another shot. read more

My first visit to Hipster heaven, I guess. Filled with clue-free employees who need pats on the back for checking my id (I'm north of 60) to gain entry to the "speakeasy" where we waited for 45 minutes to be seated in a half empty restaurant at the communal table. Nothing like sitting at a counter-like seat to have a conversation with the person next to you. When we asked the wait person to point out favorites (or anything) on the menu, she dutifully responded that we should look it over and ask any questions. No suggestions. Each time the staff assumes the single seated next to me around the corner is part of our party and keeps placing food for her to share, time to move my chair. Beautiful space put to the service of concept. Expect to search for the door. Give yourself a star when you figure out the puzzle. Fuck this restaurant. read more

This place was even better than I expected. Yes, it is a pizza place with interesting and truly delicious pizzas (we had YOLO and Broccolini), but it also offers non-pizza food that is modern and fun and really really tasty. The Japanese sweet potato was a delicious surprise, and I also recommend the Thai sausage skewers which had a satisfying flavor and texture. Our waitress was knowledgable and helpful when we asked about ingredients not familiar to us. The atmosphere is cute and surprisingly peaceful. A quick heads up - if you are seated at the bench along the wall, put your taller people on the bench because it's lower than the chairs. read more
