Went to dinner last night to Young Joni. I decided to sit at the bar and when I walked into the place, it was buzzing with people. At the bar, I was greeted by a friendly bartender and they were welcoming. I decided to order a cocktail first which was a Negroni. As for my meal, I decided to go with the chicory salad and the Korean barbecue pizza. The salad was a good idea to complement them pizza which I recommend. The pizza was very tasteful and they added this oil that I asked for a side of to add to my slices. I would definitely recommend this place to try the pizzas but other items are the menu look delicious and I would definitely come back again. read more

Oh Young Joni... Everytime I discuss about top pizza spots or just great eat spots in the Twin Cities, you always get mentioned. I finally made time for you, and you did meet your hype. Easily became one of my top spots. I went with a friend, and we had: 1) Wings, 2) Korean Potatoes, & 3) the La Parisienne pizza. Our waiter informed us, everything is cooked with open fire. The wings gamed out first. It was smoky, and ended in a strong "wooo" reaction. These wings were good and packed a good slight punch. No lie, they were fall apart from the bones. Second, came the Korean Sweet Potatoes. I only know of Korean Potatoes being as a side dish/banchan. But this is Young Joni, so I was excited on what their take was. It came out as thick cut potatoes covered in a dry rub, laid on top of a thick yet "smooth" sauce. The potatoes complimented the slight punch from the wings. Slight crispy exterior, then soft insides of the potatoes. The sauce, again... smooth and cooling with a subtle complexity, and subtle sweetness throughout. Yeah, we preferred this over the wings for sure. Last came the pizza, the La Parisienne. Here, straight from the menu: "prosciutto, gruyère, ricotta, brown butter, caramelized onion, arugula, pickled mustard seed." Wow, it takes you on a nice ride of flavors. Smoky crust, cheese, sweetness from the brown sugar, a bit acidic from the mustard seeds, nice refreshing arugula, back to sweet and cheese. Thats the best I can explain. Again, a nice ride of flavors. Im gonna say it, one of the best pizza spot in town. Yep, again, easily became one of my favorite spots to eat in the Twin Cities. Don't sleep on Young Joni! Wow! I reserved a work gathering two months in advance and leading up to the reservation, I received email reminders, a text and a personalized phone call which aided to the lovely customer service. On my actual dinner night, my group was seated in an intimate area with low lit lights and twinkle candles. We split the Perfect Pickle Pizza (hurry up and grab this as I am not 100% sure how long it will stay on the menu), Korean BBQ (delicious), Tavern Pie (drizzled with honey) and Mushroom Pizza (entirely creamy). Every pizza was a winner and I would definitely recommend a reservation and going with a larger group so that you can sample all the deliciousness. The cocktail options are abundant as well. Really disappointed with the service my group received in the back room space. We made reservations weeks ago and we were all really looking forward to going. We were practically ignored by our server all night, having to remind them several times of what we ordered. Even when it came to asking for our check; we watched several other tables receive their check immediately while we waited about 30 minutes for ours. When our pizza was dropped off to us, I picked up my plate to try and make space for the pizza to be set in the middle of the table. Instead, the food runner left it basically off the edge of the table and our group had to rearrange the table to be able to set our plates down again. Been wanting to check out this location after going to Pizzeria Lola for years. However, procrastinated until they were on Netflix and after Netflix they just blew up so it was hard to get in. Finally went after waiting for months for our rsvp. I like the menu slightly better at Pizzeria Lola, but this location still served delicious pizzas. And honestly was the only reason why we went (desserts too, of course). Got the Korean BBQ (must have every time) and My Sha-Roni pizzas. Both delicious but hands down the Korean BBQ was the best. I would eat that everyday if I could. The desserts tray was pretty yummy. The soft serve with sea salt and olive oil also a must have. Is the staff at Young Joni's okay? Our group of four started the evening in the back bar for a drink before our dinner reservation in the main restaurant, and all the staff we interacted with in both the bar and restaurant seemed miserable. I have been looking for an interesting pizza place since I moved here and bam! I have found it at Young Joni. The pizza is excellent. I have been a couple of times now but on my first trip I got both the margherita (mild) and the Korean BBQ (wild) and both were excellent. But the Korean BBQ pizza!! Holy cow, it was amazing - the beef, the sauce, the fresh arugula - all so perfectly executed. It is so easy to screw up a pizza with a lot of fusion nonsense. However, YJ does an amazing job on this pizza. I have ordered it twice now and perfect both times. And even more over the top are their take-home cocktail kits. This is the greatest Covid-era invention. I ordered the old fashioned kit. Old fashions are a massive pain in the butt to make. YJ sells a kit that makes 4 drinks with 4 massive 2-inch by 2-inch ice cubes, all the non-booze liquid parts in a bottle, plus cherries as well as orange slices. They even give instructions!! All you need is a glass and the bourbon. Seriously epic. Go. Take your pizza and your boozy booze kit and have a wonderful dinner at home. read more

Dining at this cute spot was DELICIOUS. Known for unique pizzas, James Beard Award Winning Chef Ann Kim melds midwest with Korean heritage. I got the Basque pizza on Gluten-Free crust - Spanish chorizo, goat cheese, piquillo pepper, red onion, castelvetrano olive, and preserved lemon. It was a taste adventure. As it cooled down the preserve lemon popped and brought a whole new layer of flavor. Ask your server for gluten-free and dairy-free options. They are very accommodating. Young Joni has been on my list for awhile! Make reservations as soon as you can - they fill up fast. We did not have a reservation and waited about 45 minutes. A server takes your drink orders in the waiting area. Food: we had the beet & celery salad to start. So flavorful and a perfect combination of ranch and blue cheese. The Spicy Kale pizza is SO good. If you like medium spice, this is the way to go. Service: we sat at the bar and the restaurant was very busy. Young Joni has always been a fairly tough reservation to get since opening years ago, but now with Ann Kim's exposure to the world via Netflix, you definitely need to plan your trip in advance. Like its predecessor Pizzeria Lola, pizza is the backbone of the menu at Young Joni, though it does branch out beyond that with a number of small plates and entrees available as well. That said, Ann Kim is known for her pizza and hers remains some of my favorite in the Twin Cities. On a recent trip we tried the pickle pizza and enjoyed its novelty - it's one of the better iterations I've tried for a style that every pizzeria in MN seems to be adding to their menus right now. That said, the Korean BBQ and Basque pizzas still reign supreme for me. The space itself is beautiful and service has always been very friendly (it's a no tipping operation and a surcharge is added to your bill). If you can't get your hands on a timely reservation you can always try to snag a spot in the back bar for a beverage and a pizza or order takeaway. read more

We made a reservation about a month in advance and had high hopes for what to expect - we were not disappointed! We started by ordering the Korean Sweet potato's and were blown away - perfect combination of a little sweet, with a little spice and the crème fraiche just perfectly melts in. We ordered two pizzas - Umami Mama and La Parisienne. Both were deliciously and uniquely different. I personally enjoyed the Umami Mama a tad bit more - it had the perfect flavor especially in the crust with the parmigiano-Reggiano. The l Parisienne was a bit different than what I expected, but still was blown away by the flavor. We did order w a bit too much food for two people but nothing is wrong with leftovers. Thank goodness for rsvp. This place was super packed even on a weekday. I haven't been here in years and happy to see them still maintaining their food quality, taste and service. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our cocktails that night. We ordered several and were not impressed so we switched to wine. The food is seriously good. Even their pizza tasted awesome when heated in microwave the next day. I can't remember the name of our pizza but it had fennel seeds, prosciutto and arugula on it. I mean large sized fennels, which we were not very sure of at first but upon the first bite, we knew it was a good combination. We ordered a whole grilled fish. The branzino was moist and super tasty and perfectly seasoned. Our cauliflower was just cooked to perfection with some crunch and lots of flavors and seasoning. Young Joni was recommended by my stylist /friend at least a year ago. She said I would love it and she was not wrong. Made a reservation a month in advance, for our 21st wedding anniversary dinner. It is situated just a few blocks from the first place my husband and I lived in NE Mpls. So a trip down memory lane was convenient. We arrived 30 minutes early for our reservation and they were happy to seat us early. I loved the spacious entry area with an abundance of plants. The dining atmosphere is upscale casual with excellent attention paid to lighting that feels both cozy but bright enough to see your food. We started with cocktails. He had the Sling (lime, ginger, blueberry, mezcal) and I had the Ricky (lime, mint, koji, five-spice, vodka) My husband, loved the Sling so much he asked me to recreate it at home. We started with the PEI Mussels (vadouvan curry, fresno, fresh herbs, flatbread) which were so unbelievable typing this makes my mouth water. Before we had finished we already started talking about how we should come back for just mussels and white wine. I was struck by the recycled plates that were so familiar, yet I could not place them until the day after. I had them in my apartment in college - picked up at the goodwill I think. For our main we split the Chichory Cesar (castelfranco, radicchio, endive, frisée, egg,* croutons, parmigiano-reggiano) and the My Sha-Roni (house red sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, fennel sausage) accompanied by a Spritz (carrot, raspberry ferment, vermouth, aperitif) and a Glass of Pino Noir both food items were very tasty, and the Spritz was fantastic. The petite carrot garnish was adorable. Loved the photo strips posted along the way to the restroom a fun way to pay homage to the customer support. The service was excellent as you could tell straight away it is a team effort with everyone pitching in to clear empty plates or glasses - yet our server Jon was very available and prompt. One word, amazing! Young Joni is relaxing, fun, yet had an upscale vibe. The waitress was attentive and knowledgeable. The pizza was some of the best I've ever had! All of the pizzas were well balanced and were extremely thoughtful. We ordered the following: -Julep drink--very tasty. -Cauliflower--I'm not a huge cauliflower but would order this again and again. -Pickle Pizza-- it had dill ranch and dill pickle chips on top, oh so good. -Umami Mama--may be the best pizza I've ever had. There was so much flavor packed into the mushrooms, this is a musty try. -Margarita with half pepperoni--very classic which was fresh and tasty. -Church Basement Cookie and Bar Plate--very fun and tasty dessert! We finished off the night in the photo-booth and took some memorable and fun pictures. Young Joni is worth every penny for the food and all around vibe.
