I have been trying to get into this pizza joint for three months and so glad I was able to finally snag an 815 reservation on a Friday night. The atmosphere is casual and the experience is that of a linger. The restaurant prides itself on being more than just food and fair by representing all their advertisement on incorporating an experience, so anticipate your reservation to last at least two hours especially if you are ordering pizza. Everything is made to order and boasts delicious flavors, textures without breaking the bank. I highly recommend ordering their butchers cut for the table! I have been eyeing up Young Joni for awhile and I finally got to try it. We were having a lil get-together and I wanted some tasty pizza for the occasion. There is only take-out with COVID happening, so I ordered online. You pick a time to pick it up and that worked really well. The food was still hot by the time we brought them home, so don't worry about them not being fresh. You can also do the parbaked option, if you want to cook the pizzas at a certain time. These parbaked pizzas are only partially cooked so you get to do the cooking on your time. I had never been here so I didn't know what size the pizzas were. They are all one size, and one pizza could most likely be finished by one hungry person. Since we had a group, I ordered six of them. With all the different kinds of pizza, you really can't go wrong with any of them. The crusts are deliciously fire grilled and crispy. They were all so good! The Korean BBQ, like everyone else has said, was a really good twist on a pizza. It has a slight kick to it with a sweet bbq finish. If you like mushrooms, definitely go for the Umami Mama. For Yelp's Big Night In, I ordered Young Joni take-out with my roommates. This was my first time trying Young Joni, and boy it did not disappoint! My first impression when I picked up my pizza was that parking was a breeze, and the restaurant space had a really cool atmosphere with dark wood and plenty of plants. I want to come back when I can sit in their cozy restaurant! Regardless, I ordered La Parisienne, and it was truly the best ~unique~ pizza I have ever had. I am guilty of loving arugula on pizza, but it can be so hard to enjoy with take-out. I have had a lot of wilted greens fails. What really stood out to me with Young Joni was that when I picked up my pizzas, they had my arugula and pickled mustard seeds in a separate to-go container for me to add to my pizza when I got home. This ensured they were perfectly crispy and fresh when I ate my pizza. It is a small thing that I find SO considerate and appreciated. Truly above and beyond! Came here on a weekday night with some friends and the place was packed, so I'd definitely making a reservation in advance! We got the chicken wings, La Parisienne pizza, and Korean BBQ pizza. WOW! We managed to snatch a reservation to the Back Bar at Young Joni, a back alley speakeasy that is fully of character. The menu is themed Television with so many creative drink names and you get all the pizzas from the main restaurant too. It's a challenge to add to anything that hasn't been said about this restaurant- the food, the service, the ambiance are all wonderful. We made a reservation about six weeks ahead of time. I have eaten here before, it never disappoints. It's tough to get a table but often if you show up early you can get a seat at the bar which is fun. My wife and I had the pork ribs along with the cabbage salad to start. Then two pizzas, the mushroom and the Parisian- all astonishingly delicious. We had a glass of wine and a beer, $127 which included the 21% employee benefit fee. They do provide an explanation of this charge with the bill and tipping is completely optional- I did tip 15% based on the non surcharged amount. Completely worth it. Plus we took two halves of pizza home. Lots of staff there attending to your every need, the service was quick and the food was served hot and promptly. This is a go to. Amazing atmosphere, casual and bustling. The drinks are thoughtful and elevated (love the blueberry mezcal drink, and I dislike mezcal!). The salads... don't skip! The beet salad (pictured) is SO delicious with pitashio remulode, mint & celery blazing off a nice portion of beets on a bed of whipped ricotta. This is my third or fourth visit to Young Joni and each time impresses me with it's ambiance inside, it's tentative wait staff, and the food! This time around we got the Korean BBQ & the Lamb pizza. Both are worth trying and very flavorful. The Korean BBQ has been a repeat favorite, you can also order the Korean ribs on the menu as well which we got for an appetizer and they are just as flavorful. The lamb pizza was super flavorful and a lot of us compared it to a gyro style which was spot on. Both wood fire over, made to perfection, and amazing flavor that every pizza lover wants and needs in their life. We also are big fans of the Whole Fish on the menu as well and have gotten it a couple of times. The wait staff will remove the bones for you if you don't want to do it yourself otherwise it is fried to perfection and comes with an amazing Thai basil dipping sauce that I could actually drink if it was appropriate too. This is one of my new favorite restaurants in NE Minneapolis. I came here for a date night because I had a gift card, and I was blown away. The food was absolutely delicious. We split the pork spare ribs and the "My Sha-Roni" pizza on the recommendation of our server. The ribs were amazingly tender and fell right off the bone. The pizza was also very good. They have a lot of very unique choices on their menu but I'm glad we kept it simple with the my sha-roni. The dining room is beautiful. Reservations were tough to get unless you are booking far in advance, so we ended up sitting at the bar because it is first-come seating. It had a cool view of the pizza kitchen/oven. The service was a little disappointing. The bartender seemed like he was trying to rush us through the meal. We asked for a minute to look at the menu several times and each time he returned about 30 seconds later trying to take our order. I don't think it is outrageous to say that this place might have the best pizzas in the Twin Cities at all! Young Joni prides itself on serving Korean and Italian fusion, so there are lots of innovative dishes that I have never heard of before, including an appetizer called kimchi hummus, which I did not end up trying. But I will say for sure that after trying many of the vegetable sides and many of their varieties of pizzas, I can recommend Young Joni's pizzas to literally everyone around me. Starting with the vegetables, the confit mushrooms, the cauliflower, and the Korean sweet potatoes all have their respective strengths, and serve as amazing side dishes. But of course, the star of the show is the pizza. One can always go with the two Italian classics, the Marinara or the Margherita, and both can provide very classic flavors that exemplify what real Italian pizzas should taste like. The garlic pieces on the Marinara and the fresh mozzarella along with fresh basil on the Margherita are just outstanding in providing the extra amount of flavor that is needed to elevate the pizza. The potato and leek pizza is no longer on Young Joni's menu, but last time when I had it, it was a very solid choice for those who are vegetarian. Then there is the Korean BBQ pizza, which you know exemplifies the restaurant's fusion mission, so it is very delicious. The combination of beef short ribs, mozzarella cheese, and soy-chili vinaigrette along with green onion and arugula on the top together make it an enjoyable experience, and it shows me that this fusion really works. The Umami Mama pizza screams "umami" all day long because it contains three different kinds of mushrooms and then ingredients that contain strong flavors which also help with elevating the umami taste, like parmigiano-reggiano, the very salty and flavorful parmesan cheese. The Amalfi Coast pizza tastes like an alternative version of the Margherita pizza, except for with more vegetables. It tastes very good because there is a lot of olive oil on the pizza which actually enhances the pizza's original flavor. On the other hand, the La Parisienne pizza does not really have a lot of (if any) olive oil, but it is an amazing pizza because the saltiness of the prosciutto and the sweetness of the caramelized onion work very well together in balancing flavors when there is ricotta cheese in the mix. So far every pizza has been a hit, which is why I love it! Dessert-wise, Young Joni doesn't have a lot, so only the church basement cookie & bar plate and the seasonal crips. I have had the former twice and enjoyed it each time, although I will say $12 is a bit much for the dessert itself. I think $8-$9 might sufficient. However, I must stress that lacking dessert while serving championship level food is completely okay, because a lot of restaurants are the opposite: having amazing desserts but relatively less tasty food. I would recommend anyone visiting Minneapolis give Young Joni a shot! Get yourself a good table, some nice food, and use their photo booth to take photos with your companions! read more

The waitress serving us had one of the flattest affects I've ever come across in the service industry. No hello, how are you, recommendations etc. She only seemed interested in taking our order and moving on, which I found off putting and strange considering the restaurant's reputation. The salad was fine but a bit salty. The pork belly in the hash was extremely dry and the dish was underwhelming and surprisingly flavorless. The pizza was decent but definitely not something that would drive me to this establishment especially considering the other dishes and the poor service. We would have mentioned all of this to our waitress but she couldn't be bothered to check in on us. After we finished our meal she dropped off the bill without asking if we wanted anything else or how our meal was, which I found to be disappointing. Anyway, I checked Young Joni's off my list and likely won't ever return. The TC food scene has so many amazing places that I have yet to try and I'm certain are more enthusiastic for my business. The ambiance and decor is what really did it for me. Had heard great things about this place and it surpassed expectations Reservations are the way to go - was super busy but we got seated right away thanks to some early planning. Our server was very nice and helpful, gave both food and drink recs that were amazing (and even added cherries in an old fashioned just because we love cherries) My favorite dish of the night was the bibim veggie starter. So so good and as a meat eater, I didn't even notice. The grains were nice and chewy, the sweet/tart/spicy vegetables blended so well together, and the vinaigrette tied all the flavors together perfectly. Young Joni has some of the best pizza I have ever tried. Yes, we're talking about Young Joni in Minnesota. I honestly didn't think we would even have an opportunity to get a table but I risked it as a walk in and was offered to sit at the community table. I had no problem with that at all an the rest was history. We ordered their Margherita and their YOLO pizza. Both were phenomenal. The burnt crust on both pizzas were done perfectly which added a little of of a crispiness with some fluff. The Margherita also had the right amount of red sauce and cheese topped with fresh basil and sprinkled with olive oil. Their YOLO was truly something I've never tasted before in a Pizza. With the same burnt crust, the pizza came with pepperoni, bacon and fennel sausage, and of course mozzarella cheese and red sauce. Every piece of meat complimenting each other. The Margherita was delicious, but I've tried very similar Margherita pizzas at other place. The YOLO was definitely the highlight of the night. I had the pleasure of joining the one, the only, Kara D for dinner at Young Joni, and wow, it was one of the best meals I've had in a while. This was at 5pm, so needless to say, reservations are necessary. Our server was really great and knowledgable, and managed to bring me an AMAZING mocktail (I'm currently baking a tiny baby and can't do booze.) Honestly, most mocktails feel like a waste of time to me, but this was so well done; bubbly, not too sweet, and full of fruit. That alone was worth the trip! Luckily, that's just where it began. Wowsers!! This place came as such a surprise. There are so many incredible restaurants in the Twin Cities that is is hard to decide which ones to go to while in town. (Un)Fortunately most seem to be fully booked so that narrows the choices For You. A Prince reference in his hometown and the reason I'm in town. I ended up with a 4:30 pm reservation, a little early but I'll take what I can get. Arrived solo since someone missed their flight. I was given the choice of sitting at my reserved table or upfront at the bar that overlooks the cooking stations. I picked the latter since I am a cook and like to see the action up close. It was a bit warm since they use wood fired stoves for cooking, but well worth it. I was able to engage in some conversation with chef at the right side station who made what seemed to be the most popular dish, the cauliflower. I learned from him that they use white oak for cooking and that he keeps his oven at about 700-750^F. I could see he was busy so I didn't engage with him too much. My waitress was so friendly and wonderful I'm sorry I can't remember her name. She was super helpful in helping people decide on drinks and what she recommended to try for dinner. I ordered a Ponche which is hibiscus tea with ginger and cinnamon. Very refreshing not too sweet or sour. Then it was time to pick a pizza. So many different creations and I had kinda narrowed down to three but then my waitress highlighted two others that sounded so good. Ultimately I selected the pizza they are most known for, the Korean BBQ. Not too many chances to get that pizza plus by getting that I would now get something other than the Korean Short Ribs. So to start off with I ordered the Pork Belly Ssäm. I would have also liked to try the Cauliflower but since it was just me I knew it would be too much. So the Pork Belly Ssäm comes out. You assemble it as lettuce wraps. I love pork belly but I never had it like this. Usually it is seared and crispy but since this was grilled over wood it was nice and soft with with that wood grilled taste, it practically melted in your mouth. After you put it together you have one of the most flavorful dishes around. I loooved this dish. It was probably the best thing I ate on my trip to Minneapolis. You must try this dish. Then the Korean BBQ pizza. It was definitely a good choice, but from the descriptions and recommendations any pizza would probably be a good pick. Korean short rib isn't something you think of as a topping for a pizza but it works perfectly and is so delicious. To finish things off I had the Soft Serve Ice Cream with sea salt and olive oil, yet another combination of flavors that you wouldn't expect to be together but it was exceptional. My only regret about my visit to Young Joni? I couldn't try more dishes. This is definitely a place to come with friends so you can share things with each other. The ext time I am in Minneapolis I will be coming back hopefully with some friends. The rumors are true as you probably already know: Young Joni is the pizza king. From the moment you walk in to the restaurant, it feels warm and cozy and welcoming. There's plants near the door and even the napkins and the menus felt comforting and as if a family member had given them to you. The menu has a ton of really delicious sounding and creative appetizers and pizza options and cocktails, and our server was very helpful in recommending good choices for my group. First we tried the cauliflower appetizer... I already love cauliflower but this is probably the most amazing version of cauliflower I've ever had! The sauce was really really yummy. For pizzas we went for the Korean BBQ and the Basque. Both were really good and cooked well. The KBBQ was super unique and definitely had that smoky flavor that reminds you of Korean barbecue. The Basque was definitely more of a traditional red sauce style but had the fun/super tasty perk of the goat cheese. This place is 100% worth the hype, definitely my favorite minneapolis restaurant i've been to so far. Food and atmosphere is upscale casual, a bit pricey for a 12" pizza, but it's also some of the best pizza i've had, so I can't really argue. I came pretty late on a weeknight without reservations and was able to be seated at the bar overlooking the kitchen. Staff were all super duper friendly. Got the mushroom pizza and a salad with peaches and pole beans- the salad had the most random assortment of ingredients but they all just worked so perfectly together it blew my mind. The crust on the pizza literally couldn't get any better, so really you can't go wrong with any of the pizzas I think. Didn't try any of the cocktails, but the beer was good. Great food, unique flavors - 4 stars! GOOD: 1. The food was all very good. There were a few standouts that are NOT pizza. The Korean beef short ribs were amazing - savory, sweet, tender. The flavors in the roasted corn were excellent - don't forget to ladle on the spicy juices from the bottom. And the seasonal crisp (with peaches and blueberries) was very good - served ultra-fresh and hot. 2. The service was first class - attentive but not overbearing. I couldn't have asked for anything better. CRITICISMS: 1. The main thing is pizza, right? Our pizzas were good but not THAT good. You can only get so good with a pizza, whether it's prepared by a chef or a trained line cook. I can get pizza that's just as good for half the price at numerous locations throughout the metro. For example, places like Pompeii Pizzeria in Elk River, MN...8 bucks a pizza instead of 16 bucks a pizza...with even more interesting varieties along with fresh ingredients. And places like 45th Parallel Distillery. And they all charge what they think they need to charge for workers and profit. 2. Management automatically adds 21% to support living wages and benefits for workers. This is all fine & dandy but why can't they adjust all of the food & drink prices accordingly and forget a stupid fee. I know Minneapolis loves its fees and taxes and adjustments...but why can't Young Joni simply increase product pricing like every other restaurant on the planet. I'm not sure if this is sneaky or trendy or woke or stupid but I don't like it. 3. Two of us dropped over $220. That includes and already pricy food, the 21% living wage fee, and a 20% gratuity. You start with a $16 pizza...add a 21% fee, add a 20% gratuity...you're now up to $22.31 for one 12" pizza! This is kinda steep for my liking to eat at an, essentially, fancy dancy pizza shop. 4. Getting in without a reservation is a pain. I'm glad I tried it. Despite the drawbacks, I see hundreds of people lining up to get in and fork over money. Before going to Young Joni, I had many of my friends telling me to go. Typically I am pretty skeptical, but I decided to go for a date night. It was beyond amazing. At first I thought, "Upscale pizza?? How fancy can it be?!?" The food blew our minds! Incredible food and drink. We had the Burrata with English Peas, Japanese Sweet Potato with bonito flakes (yes, they move!), Umami Mama & This Lamb is your lamb pizzas. I love that the lamb sausage on this pizza was only lamb, not lamb and beef. This pizza was so unique that it was our favorite. We had enough for leftovers the next day! We will be back for more burrata and lamb pizza! read more

Really solid thin crust pizza with creative flavor combinations. Definitely recommend making reservations - I tried to come on a Saturday night but ended up getting takeout when the wait for two turned out to be 2.5 hours. I visited with a friend with New Jersey standards for pizza who was skeptical at first, but she approved of the pizzas we got. We both thought the thin, chewy crusts had great texture and that the topping combinations went well together. The pizzas we tried were: -Tavern Pie ($15) - topped with red sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, jalapeño, and honey. Great combination; I loved the jalapeño and honey. -La Parisienne ($17) - topped with prosciutto, gruyère, ricotta, brown butter (!), caramelized onion, arugula, and pickled mustard seed. Young Joni, I love you! Starting with an appetizer is a MUST here! The cauliflower is the best item on the menu, but the chicken wings are a close second. Pizza was a custom build your own -- good, but not great. The ambiance of Young Joni is amazing. So clean, sleek, and modern. The two times I've been here I've had the best service. The food was really good, but was shocked by some of the things that occurred in service: Full knowing we didn't have a reservation and odds would be slim my friend asked if there was anything available in the bar, after being told without a reservation there was nothing, and general rudeness just for asking. There was, they say is at the community table. Not enough place settings and didn't bother to clean the table first. One of the servers came by and wiped the crumbs and grease off WITH HIS BARE ARM... No follow up with a rag . Our third member showed up about 20m after us, we had food on the table, still no place setting for him yet. Fantastic food, though I thought the pizza was just like any other wood fired pizza, but I got traditional toppings and didn't opt for the more creative ones that I'm sure make them unique. I preferred the apps. Sat with an empty drink for a while waiting to order another, took way too long. Don't have much reason to go back, though based on other reviews and reputation it seems this was likely a rare insurance. I worked in restaurants for 15 years straight so I empathize, tip, and review very fairly. Hosts should not speak to anyone that way (my friend dined there many times), and tables need to be sanitized with sanitizer, not a hairy bare arm. read more

I had heard a lot of good things about young Joni and it still blew me away! I've never been to a pizza place that felt so upscale and nice. The inside has a sophisticated vibe which I loved! The food is also all incredible. This is the only pizza that I think can rival the pickle pizza at the state fair! Everyone there was super nice and helpful when it came to recommendations. This place is AMAZING! Definitely worth waiting for a reservation! I've recommended Young Joni to so many people and can't wait to go back! The vibe there is trendy but relaxed, easy for a fun night out with friends! Their food is so unique but fun to try something new and different! I had the La Parisienne pizza and it was great!
