Although there was an initial scheduling delay due to the fact that Alan is a one man repair team, his wife Sheila did a great job keeping me in the loop and updated with Alan's progress. I rarely leave really bad reviews but in this case I made an exception. I don't know if this is typical of their "customer service" but my experience with them so far has been pretty bad. First of all I called and left a message on Wednesday morning (11-4) to see if they could fix my Kenmore refrigerator ice maker. It's a really old (14 yrs) fridge and actually hadn't been working in at least 8 years. I have another fridge so it had never been an issue till my second fridge started going bad and I had to shut it off and order another one that was going to be delivered in two weeks on the 18th. They called me back later that day and the lady (I found out it was the owner's wife) asked me several questions about my fridge to first make sure they could handle the repair and then scheduled a service call for Thursday between 1:30pm-3:30pm. I thought so far, so good. On Thursday I waited.....and waited.....and waited. At 3:24 I called and left a message asking if they were on their way. At 3:54 Allan Young called from his cell saying that he was finishing up a job in Kaneohe and would be on his way. He arrived a little after 4pm to start the job. He removed the ice maker several times to check the issue and finally took it apart and found the motor was frozen. He removed some parts and tubing and put everything back and said he would need to replace the unit and should be picking it up on Friday. He didn't charge me at that point which I thought was nice and said he would be back and would write it up after it was completed. He verbally quoted the part at around $125 for a "generic" replacement rather than $250 for the original version, which I was okay with. Now the fun starts..... No word from him on Friday so I called their number. Apparently, they never answer the phone; you have to leave a message and hope they will call you back...they did not. On Saturday morning I tried to open the freezer door and found it would not open because whatever Allan had done on Thursday caused water to start leaking out of the broken ice maker and drip all down the inside of the freezer walls, shelves and the door. The water had frozen solid and built up around the door so that it wouldn't open!! I had to take a knife sharpener and chip away at the ice on the door so that I could finally get it open. Then I had to clear out all the other ice that had frozen down the walls, shelves and the bottom of the freezer. WHAT A MESS!! I called them back but no answer and no response. I remembered that he called me from his cell so I called him but no answer and his voice mailbox was full and couldn't take any messages....not a good sign. I texted him the issue along with a few pictures of the problem and asked him to call me back...no reply. It is now Monday morning and I haven't heard back from them at all and I have had to deal with this ice issue all weekend. Their office message says they'll be closed on Monday 11-9 and Wednesday 11-11, but they'll check their messages and call back "as soon as possible". The only thing I could do was to leave another message and then start looking for someone else to do the repair. I know that things are difficult during Covid times but I feel it is inexcusable for a service company to not even reply or respond to my numerous messages; especially when it is a problem that THEY caused. I am always willing to revise my review and opinion of them but at least have the courtesy to CALL BACK!. WHAT A NIGHTMARE THIS HAS BEEN!! UPDATE...11/14/2020 Okay, I have updated my review and revised my rating from 1 Star to 3 Stars. Allan's wife Sheila, finally returned my call on Monday afternoon and I explained the problems I had over the weekend. She was apologetic and said Allan was not working all week but we made an appointment for Friday afternoon. (I got in touch with another repair person on Sunday and paid him $100 to install a shutoff on my fridge water line. He came prepared with a hand-held steamer and was nice enough to remove most of the frozen ice). On Friday, Allan arrived and I explained the situation and he saw he had to remove the ice that was still frozen around the old ice maker. He cleaned and flushed out the water line and the overall repair took a little over an hour. At least it is finally done and working. Sheila called me about 20 minutes after he finished to check on the status and make sure I was satisfied, which was a nice touch (I don't know if she normally does that or called because of the problems I had). In summary, I can't give them 5 Stars because of the water leak that Allan originally caused. I feel that should not have happened or at least they could have installed a shutoff in the first place. I was actually going to give them 4 Stars but decided against that after my conversation with Allan. I told him that his voice mail was full and asked if he got my texts and photos I sent. He actually said he did but hadn't really checked his phone all weekend!! read more

Young's is one of a few authorized repair companies for Viking appliances. They are physically located out in Kailua, but service the entire island. They are a mom and pop operation. The wife runs the office operation and Alan does the repair. I have used Young's a total of five times and never had any problems. Each time I would call and leave a message. Within 24hrs I would get a call back for the scheduling of the repair. Recently Alan came out to service my freezer. I was given a two hour window for the service. The day before I got a call confirming the appointment. The day of the service, Alan showed up within the scheduled window. He quickly troubleshoot the issue and repaired my freezer within a reasonable time. He went the extra mile and helped me clean up the refrigerator vents. During the repair, I chatted with him and found out that he has been very busy and booked due to warranty repairs on newer condos. Keep in mind when you call for service that it's a mom and pop operation. If you want IMMEDIATE service you aren't going to get that, which obviously I don't have a problem with. He repaired the microwave after doing some diagnostics and replaced the malfunction part. He repairs all brands of appliances, but is most sought after for Viking appliances. If you have a Viking appliance, this is the place to call for service. I got their contact information from Viking. They responded quickly to my initial call and ordered the part I needed for my oven. When the part arrived, they scheduled a day and time for the repair work. Do not attempt to do your own repair work on Viking appliances. Once I saw how complicated the work was, and how well made the Viking oven was, I am glad I had a professional do the work. Alan came over to our house 2 separate times to fix our oven and after working with the Viking customer service we concluded that someone else had to look at it. Alan repaired my 25 year old Dryer about a year ago, which now works well. He was able to diagnose the problem quickly and was very professional. His service was great and rates are reasonable. I called them this year to fix a leaky 10 year old Refrigerator and 30 year old Washer. He quickly found the problems, had the parts on hand, and fixed both. Again great service and reasonable rates. He answered questions about appliance brands and companies in case I needed to replace something. He has lots of experience with all types of appliances and some excellent training too. Wow! Young's is great. My fridge wouldn't get cold and I went online and googled "refrigerator repair". Naturally, the big-name ad popped up first and I was dismayed to see a month wait to get a service call. Frantic, I looked into buying a new fridge because of seasonal sales but they couldn't deliver for weeks. Then I remembered to check Yelp and I found Young's right here in Kailua. Mrs. Young returned my call the same day and set up appointment for the following day. Mr. Young arrived within the designated time and was fast, efficient, and so friendly. He diagnosed and fixed the problem in less than 30 minutes (including helping me empty the freezer of food!). He even had the necessary part on hand! The price was more than fair. I'm so grateful to have found this excellent business.
