I could already tell there was great service from the minute I walked in because the owner took their time to really ask questions and help understand what the customer wanted so that she could do a great job. I came in to get the waist of my pants taken in which were denim jeans, not an easy task at all, and she helped pin me and took into an account that I wanted some breathing room even with the alterations she did a great job, ensuring that I was happy with the pinning, and then even asked to double check with me about potential concerns with the alteration And give me the option to either have the waste taken in from the back or from the sides, depending on how I wanted, the pockets to lay the attention to detail was really impressive, and the turnaround was in one week. Prices were very fair for the service and the pants were done beautifully. I have absolutely no complaints and feel so relieved to have a tailor that I can go to now for my alteration needs. read more

It's not common for me to write reviews .. everyone says you write reviews because your experience was really bad or amazing. First it's rare that I need to go to cleaners at all. But I had a small tear in my flannel and everywhere I called or visited was charging me $25 (almost as much as my shirt!) and said it would take a week to fix. I stumbled upon this place and the lady was incredibly sweet and helpful. She looked at my shirt and said she could do it in less than a day AND she asked for $5.. I've never gone to a tailor before so this was my first experience and it was fantastic. I had a wool skirt and wool trousers I needed both taken in at the waist, and the lady who works here took my measurements there and had it ready in just a few days. I came here upon recommendation, and I am definitely coming back for future alterations! The first time I came here, I needed two dresses hemmed. When I put on one of my maxi dresses, the woman who owns the place also noticed that the neckline was too low, most likely because the dress was made for tall women, or the material was heavy that gravity kicked in.. I didn't even notice, but the owner decided to shorted the straps to better fit me. She tried to tighten my second maxi dress, but I had to show her that the dress was purposefully loose in order to take it off. The second time I came here, I had popped two seams in my favorite dress from three days of gluttony in Santa Barbara. She told me what she had to do to fix them, and told me to come back tomorrow. I just picked it up, and the dress looks brand new! It's as though the tears never happened! The cost of the hemming, plus the strap alteration was $60, and fixing the seams was $10. I don't know if that's a high cost or not, because it's far and few in between that I go to get something altered, but the quality is outstanding! The owner is kinda like a grandma... when you tell your grandma you just want a snack, but then she gives you a three course meal... If you need something simple altered, let her know right away. And if she wants to do more when you don't, just explain to her why. She wanted to dry clean one of my dresses after altering, but I had to read the cleaning instructions that said No Dry Cleaning. But if you do need a full on alteration, she's your gal. Also, it's cash only, and you can ask to pay beforehand. read more

I've been on the hunt for a reliable alterations place in my new neighborhood, and I was really hoping this was it. Unfortunately I was totally let down with my most recent experience, so I'm still on the hunt. I brought in a pair of pants to be hemmed and the waist let out. Her quote was $33, $7 less than Magic Alterations a few blocks away. When I returned to pick them up, I asked to try them on to make sure they fit right (I've learned my lesson before). She tried to wave me off, saying I could try them on at home. But I insisted. And good thing I did, because neither the waist nor the hem had been done correctly. When I returned again the following weekend, there was a sign on the door saying 'back at noon.' I didn't have time to return that day, so I had to return a THIRD time the following weekend. This time everything fit fine, but of course the owner offered no discount for wasting so much of my time. read more

So thankful for her! Came in on a Tuesday to get pants hemmed, tapered & the waist taken in needed by the next day. She was super sweet when I dropped off the pants & assured me it'd be no problem. Wednesday comes & I call around midday & they're ready for pick up! But I ended up leaving the city for the afternoon so I checked their hours & swore I saw 6pm close time. Asked my gf to pick them up after she got off at 530pm & get a call they closed at 5pm ‍‍ I called again around 6pm & somehow she answered on the first ring. After a quick convo about how I needed the pants for my brothers wedding & that I was leaving early next day she agreed to come back to open shop & give me the altered pants. SAVED ME!! The woman who runs this shop does an impeccable job. I was supposed to have 5 weddings this year and I was a bridesmaid in two of them, so I needed a lot of dresses. Being 5'2" and curvy, most dresses are not made for my body. She hemmed and took in the waist on all 5 and did a fantastic job. The whole job only cost around $150 too. She knows her stuff, and does a better job at a better price than most places in the city. I will only take my alterations jobs here for as long as she is in business. Highly recommended. read more

A good tailor is hard to find. A great tailor is near impossible but they can really make magic happen. I worked in the clothing industry for four years so you could say clothes became a large part of my daily existence. There was a reason Taylor Stitch used Young's for all our alterations and there's also a reason I personally go to Mae. They are simply the best in town. I think this is like my second review on Yelp but I'm now sadly moving out of San Francisco. I feel it would be a travesty not to share this hidden gem. Do yourself a favor- if you're looking to have that garment you purchased online and love but just doesn't fit quite right or are seeking an opinion to see if your favorite jeans or shirt is salvageable after five years of wear, go to the magician herself. I always bring my coats and dress wear here to get them dry cleaned (about $6 per) and recently just had my jeans altered too. I got a couple of R&R and TR jeans sitting in my closet that I don't wear (cause there too damn long) but I finally had the time to take them to a dedicated tailor to get em altered. Because they also do a great job with my dry cleaning, why not have the Korean lady do my jeans too? I dropped them off on Monday and she said you can pick them up anytime Thursday. ($10 for regular hem or $20 for original -- if your wondering) When I picked them up Thursday morning, they were neatly folded, hung, (and I believe even dry cleaned too) and came out perfect. read more

This place is a scam!! I brought my mom's dress here for alterations of the hem. We met an old lady there which I assumed the owner that speaks very limited English. We wanted to pick it up on the same day so she charged us $35 including the rush fee. We were totally fine with it. I called in the afternoon and spoke to another women who said the dress will not be done until the next day and the old lady should not make such a commitment. I wasn't pleased to hear it as we stayed around that area the whole afternoon to pick up the dress. The one on the phone said they will waive the rush fee for us as they couldn't keep their promise. We went there the following afternoon to pick it up and met the old lady again. I brought up the conversation with the other one over the phone about waiving the rush fee. This old lady pretended that she was the one on the phone who spoke perfect English! I asked who answered the phone yesterday and she said it was her. Excuse me I can tell it was not her as she speaks broken English. This time she even said the charge is $40 and I said you said it's $35 yesterday with the rush fee. After awhile of back and forth, she said the fee is $35 and it was her on the phone and I should have just come to pick it up yesterday. Anyway this place is not a trustworthy place and they have horrible customer service. I highly suggest not to come to this place as they are con artists! read more

Every time I go back and get things hemmed, which is often as I'm like 5 foot 1 inches barely, the quality of work is dope. I brought my dirty coat in for its first cleaning. I picked it up the next day and it looked new--amazing. Even all the little lint balls were gone. It only cost $7.75. :) Young is the nice little Korean lady. She's been running the place for ~19 years! Service is great and rather inexpensive. Young's alterations came in real clutch for me last week... I had a new black suit that's been sitting in my closet for ages. My grandmother passed away and I needed my suit tailored overnight. The korean lady that runs Young's came in extra early the next morning to do the job. The total to hem the pents and take in the back of the jacket was $50.00. I came here because I needed a quick hem on my evening gown for a wedding. The korean lady runs this place all by herself and according to yelp review, she sounded really flawless with her work and does not overcharge. So I paid 50 bucks for her to hem my two layer dress and when I came back in a few days to pick it up, she made me pay additional 15-20 bucks which I was not aware of. Not trying to start up a fight with a granny, I paid for it and told myself I'm never going to come back here ever again! She clearly ripped me off to try make extra money on the side! A husband and wife owned operation this place does a great job all around. They are a little pricier than most places outside of the financial district for dry cleaning, wash and fold, and alteration but they are well worth it. I"m always greeted with a warm, genuine smile by the owner whenever I go there. I brought in a pair of slacks for dry cleaning once and noticed a small rip from that connected the top of my front pocket to the pant itself. I figured I'd just have my mom sow it back up for me after they've been cleaned. A few days after I dropped it off I went back to it pick up. Upon inspecting the slacks I noticed the tear had been sowed back up already. They took care of it without me even asking them to and didn't even charge me for it. Again this place is a bit more pricey but you do get what you pay for. read more

So perhaps Young's maybe better at heming suits but i'm more inclined to side with Tanya E. I asked my boyfriend to drop off a pair of my new 7 for all mankind jeans for a heming job. Since i couldn't go, i sent with him another pair of 7 jeans with the desired inseam length. What can go wrong, right? Well, after my bf brought my pants back ... they were an inch too long! A heming job for jeans can't be that much harder than heming suits right? Of the 10+ times that i've had my jeans/pants hemmed elsewhere, I've never had any problems. I guess i was furious b/c the imperfect hem job happened to me for the very first time. (luckily, it wasn't too short!) So he took the pants back to Youngs and the lady had to readjust the pants (without any additional fees) and then finally it was the right length. I probably won't be going there for a hem job again. I would definitely recommend Jim's cleaners on Clement. read more

I called them to ask whether they would be able to fix zipper in my leather jacket - they said I have to come and they have to look at it. After I arrived lady was very quick to point out I need to replace whole zipper, and they can't do it. Also, wasn't able to point out what is wrong with the zipper (it looked totally fine). It was waste of time. Also the same afternoon I fixed it for couple bucks by just replacing buckle. read more

You get what you pay for. Inexpensive but shoddy alterations work. I took 4 pieces here to be taken in: 2 silk dresses, a pair of designer pants, and a designer top. I wish I had tried out this place with less expensive pieces, b/c I almost cried over what came back. One of the silk dresses had a halter-tie top, and she actually pinned the dress to the hanger--as in, put 2 holes in my expensive silk dress! Why not just tie it to the hanger?! And the side with the zipper is bunchier than the other--I'm not sure yet if the seams are uneven or if pressing will help. Ditto for the designer top--the sides where is was taken in are bunchy now--hopefully pressing will help but I can't believe it was returned this way. Lastly, the pants. She added a new silver tab bar for closure at the top, next to the other top one. 1. There were originally two tab bars (top and bottom), so adding only one is only doing half what what was needed; and 2. Instead of removing, moving over, and resewing the original two (very nice) tab bars, she added one crappy-looking one. So now there are three closures, with one looking awful (see photo). Even more unbelievably, something happened to the pockets, because (see photo), they came back with some of the stitching pulled out that's supposed to help them lie flat. Maybe this place would be fine if you need a pair of jeans or other cheap things altered, but no way in hell would I ever trust them with something nice/expensive again. read more

This is my go-to place for all my alterations, the lady here is the only person i trust with my apparel. I stumbled upon this place because a while ago, I went to a nearby alteration shop to hem one of my skirts, and the guy said that the material couldnt be hemmed in that direction and if he did, it would take a week and cost me a lot, so i left and brought my skirt over to Young's Cleaners and Alterations. She fixed my skirt in one day with superb quality for half that price the other guy quoted me. Her prices are a lot more reasonable than any other place, and i always have last minute requests that need to be rushed asap, but she will get it done and the stitching is perfection! There will be a rush fee if you want to pick it up on the same day, i brought in a skirt, and two tops which wasnt an easy task whatsoever, but im AMAZED that she worked so hard to get it done because I had a really important event to attend to. One time i even brought in a basic tank top, and she helped me design it into a totally different halter crop top. I brought in a few dress shirts initially to get them altered, including one that fit me really well for her to use as a reference. When I got them back, they were perfect. Nice fit. Cleaned & pressed, inexpensive, and well done overall. At this point, I was really satisfied. The next week, I brought in a third of my wardrobe. This time, I requested to have the sleeves shortened as well. A week later, I got them back and noticed some inconsistencies. Some of the shirts fit better than others, and she forgot to alter the sleeves for a few of them. Additionally, the original reference shirt I brought in again to be cleaned she had also altered without my permission. I don't know why she would do this, as that shirt was a perfect fit where waistline was concerned. When I mentioned some of these things to her, she told me how good of a deal I was getting, and since I don't know enough about tailoring or clothes to press the issue, I didn't. It's not as if the shirts were ruined, so I left some of the oddly-fitting ones behind, noting how they aren't like the rest she had worked on. When I came back the following week, I brought in another third of my wardrobe, including some that revealed themselves to be oddly adjusted. There was some noticeable tension around the chest area for a few, and none of the waist adjustments fit like that first one she originally did. Still, they were better than they were before, I guess, and since the clothes were a collection of different fabrics/brands/cuts, I figured getting an exact match would be somewhat challenging without trying each and every single one of them on for her to view beforehand. So I dropped off the new batch for the same alterations and picked up the previous one. Week after that I picked up the last batch and left behind a shirt that was clearly too big around the waist. One she had already adjusted. She offered to do it again for free and I agreed. She then reminded me what a great deal I was getting, as her prices are lower than other places. Throughout the week I noticed major inconsistencies with this final pool of clothes I had just picked up. Some of the adjustments hardly made any noticeable changes at all around the waist. I finally caught on to what was happening after looking at four identical shirts of the same make, cut and fit that had been altered differently from one another. Turns out, with most she made some lazy adjustments. For two of the four identical shirts, she made no apparent changes to the waistline at all. I went back and looked at the previous ones she did and a lot of them were missing rear "darts" compared to the relatively few that had them. These were identical shirts, just a different color, so it was easy to conclude she either forgot to finish or just got lazy. Either way, she charged me for all of them just the same. The last time I went back, I brought those identical shirts with me and remarked on why they were altered differently from one another. She claimed some required different types of alterations to achieve the same effect. I then pointed out that since these shirts were identical in every way save for color, that didn't make any sense. I also told her that the waist for two of them don't appear to have been changed at all. She asked me if I wanted to take in the waist again, and at this point, I had enough. I said no, and as I was leaving she made sure to tell me what a great deal I got, and how many shirts turned out fine. TL:DR: If you want cheaper, inconsistent work from someone that is pretty sloppy and possibly dishonest, go here. If you want quality work that may cost more but would be done right without all the BS in between, go elsewhere. Update: So, four of my shirts that she altered I can no longer wear. Way too tight across the shoulders & chest, plus the buttons feel like they're going to pop off when I move around. To say I'm annoyed would be putting it mildly. I effectively paid her $400+ to render four shirts unwearable and caused 2/3rds of my wardrobe to be plagued with inconsistent changes that vary from shirt to shirt. It's ridiculous. Take your business to someone that knows what they're doing, and cares enough to do it right. read more
