"Amy" our server / waitress was top-notch, always attentive and helpful with food recommendation from serving size to food pairing that would enhance our experience. The ambiance is new, modern, and bustling with every table being occupied. It's their grand opening week and we did not expect the food to be brought out to us on a timely manner - a happy surprise indeed. On top of that the flavor is "On-Point" flavorful without being too salty. Portions are on the good size and perfect for family and friends gatherings. After highly rated and recommended this excellent restaurant last week (which is now Yue Yan!), we came back for more flavorful and tasty food! The same top-notch hospitality team, from manager Adam to Tony and Yanny, made our dining very pleasant and unforgettable. This time, we had a 2 lbs house special lobster ($37) in ginger scallion sauce, poached chicken, and sauteed choy sum (both are from a $9.99 special menu) and it was so delicious and satisfying! To end our delightful dinner, our favorite server Tony surprised us with a decadent complimentary tiramisu! Honestly, I don't understand why this restaurant gets so much hate. The service was amazing, and the food was actually pretty good! We came in on a Monday night, and overall it was a great experience. We ordered the half duck and added an extra duck soup -- and that soup completely blew me away. It was rich and deeply savory, with a slow-simmered depth that tasted like it had been cooking for hours. Super comforting, super flavorful, and honestly one of those dishes you keep going back to even when you're already full. The stir-fried bean sprouts were a little oily, but still packed with flavor. The soy sauce eel was nicely balanced -- not too salty or overly sweet, which I really appreciated. The standout for me was the steamed truffle rice. The aroma hit immediately when it came out -- super fragrant, earthy, and indulgent without being overwhelming. Every bite felt warm, slightly buttery, and really satisfying. Definitely a must-order. The only downside, in my opinion, was their XLB. I'd probably skip it here -- go to Din Tai Fung for XLB instead, haha. read more

One of the best Chinese spots in Irvine! Jiang Nan is truly a gem - mix of Shianghai and Sichuan cuisine really stand out. We loved the hot boiled fish - the broth is so flavorful! We got the Peking duck which was crispy and tender and you have to get the duck broth after, the perfect soup after a rich meal. We also got the pork belly, which was rich and indulgent, green beans which were crispy and delicious, and lamb skewers. Everything was a hit and if i lived closer this would be my go to spot! i think it's slightly overrated. came here after graduation and ordered the 北京烤鸭 （peking duck), 蟹粉豆腐（crab roe tofu）, 干煸四季豆 （green bean）, 海鲜炒饭（seafood fried rice）, 糖醋小排 (braised pork ribs)，江南酸菜鱼片 (boiled black fish)，桂花糖醋里脊 (sweet and sour pork tenderloin)。 for lunch, you can only order the peking duck in half size. maybe it's because it just opened so they're trying to preserve serving capacity but as a michelin guide restaurant, i feel like it didn't meet expectations. the peking duck was not the best, with the crepe being too thick. best peking duck i've had in the US is Chang An in tustin, but there is a steep price difference so you get what you pay for. i think the food is pretty good, it wasn't anything extraordinary, but does taste authentic. service was nice and the interior design is modern with traditional chinese motifs. overall it's a good restaurant, with good food. compared to din tai fung, the taste is definitely better. read more

I was told this restaurant doesn't take reservations, so I came and stood in line like everyone else. However, once we were waiting, they suddenly began accepting partial reservations and started seating reservation guests ahead of us. When I asked, they simply said reservation customers have priority. At that point, it became clear that even if we continued waiting, we probably wouldn't be able to dine here today so we ended up leaving. This is honestly the first time I've experienced a restaurant with such a disorganized and unclear system. Very disappointing. read more

Michelin my ass!!! I went during their soft opening but I would not recommend this place. Michelin star to me, I think of as an elegant establishment with great eats. One of the waiters here was wearing cropped pants to his ankles with no socks as if he just finished mopping the floor. Two bussers had black ball caps on. They were seating parties of 3 at a table for 2 people. Made for such tight space that when one of the waitresses walked by she had to rub her butt in my back TWICE and didn't even apologize. As for the food, we were told their signature dish would have a wait time of 50 minutes from ordering after waiting for a table for more than 20 minutes. Ridiculous!!! Some of the food we ordered was bland. 1. Garlic shrimp with vermicelli had lots of scallions, little garlic and the shrimp was a bit overcooked, bland and vermicelli was chewy. 2. And the salt and pepper prawns were a bit dry too. Flavor was good though on this one. 3. The veggies were so bad it was like eating a twig!! How can you serve your customers such bad quality food. Don't you trim off the tough pieces first? There were other dishes that we had that were just not memorable. I world not recommend this place unless they improve their service and quality. I decided to try Jiang Nan for the first time today and was disappointed with my visit. I believe that the restaurant is still in the soft opening stage. They are still working things out before the grand opening. The inside of the restaurant has plenty of seating and the decor is nice. We ordered a couple of dishes and appetizers. The string beans was my favorite dish between the two. It had a lot of flavor. The crispy beef tasted okay. The lettuce wraps were unusual. They used long strips of lettuce that caused them to fall apart while eating them. The most disappointing thing about my visit was how limited the menu is. A lot of common Chinese dishes such as Kung Pao Chicken and Twice cooked pork were on the members only section of the menu. I felt this limited the choices of dishes to the non members. read more

this restaurant opened very recently so we decided to come check it out. we ordered the mapo tofu, snow pea leaves, dongpo braised pork belly, and crispy beef. basically, we mostly chose the standard sort of stuff youd get at a chinese restaurant, nothing too out there, but the menu had a much wider variety that we didnt touch upon since this was our first time trying this place. everything tasted amazing, absolutely no complaints, and im really glad that there is finally a place nearby that has good mapo tofu. service was very helpful, though the food took a bit long to come out. there was also a 10-15 minute gap after getting our food before we finally got the beef. the portions for the pork belly and beef were somewhat underwhelming especially for the price. the pork belly was amazingly flavorful, but some of it was not so tender and was a chore to chew. the decor is lovely. lots of flowers, and the blindings also have cute bamboo details on them. overall, pretty good. would probably feel more justified in becoming a regular here if it were just a tad cheaper though. but i get it, michelin guide stuff and all. read more

The Peking duck is greasy, soft and the sauce is too sweet and sticky, and the pineapple made it even weird. The pumpkin and yum dessert has no flavor at all and they add a ready-to-eat snack as toppings which I never understood. The sweet sour pork ribs is too sweet and the sauce is sticky, the meat is too soft not crunchy. Came here to check out the restaurant on grand opening day! This is a chain restaurant from the East Coast and now we have a West Coast location. It is located in the 99 ranch plaza off of Walnut Ave, so parking was not too difficult to find. Dinner service begins around 4:30 PM so we came here around 5 PM to avoid dinner rush. As we came in, we were welcomed instantly and seated right away. Luckily, we came early because there was a wait for customers that came in later. Overall the food was fine. There were things I liked, but also things that I wish could have been better. Service was kind of chaotic as I saw some staff run all over the place and they forgot our chrysanthemum tea until we reminded them halfway through our dinner service, but they were pretty fast to grab things you needed if requested. The restaurant inside looks clean and spacious which was nice. They have an ipad, where you can add items and send it off to the kitchen to be prepared. Some dishes I'd recommend is the tiger prawn in chilli sauce and the fried truffle mushrooms ( if you like truffle flavor). Some dishes I wish they did better on would be the Peking Duck, sometimes the duck felt drier. If you do decide to order peking duck, it will take 20 to 30 min for them to prepare it. What was interesting was seeing the use of pineapple in the peking duck dish, which is something I haven't seen before. I did not have to preorder peking duck in advance which was nice. The cumin sliced beef was definitely tender, but it felt like it was a bit too salty. The crab and pork soup dumpling, flavor was good, but the dumpling wrapper felt a bit too thick in my opinion. We finished off our meal with hot tea and the fried milk custard dessert, which our waitress recommended. The dessert was good. The menu is rather extensive so there is a lot of items to pick and try. Overall, I think this is a good place to check out and try. read more

For this to be a Michelin recommended place it was very underwhelming, almost all of the dishes were bland. We ended up ordering the Wagyu Dumplings, Shrimp with vermicelli, beef with potatoes, crispy chicken, jelly fish, and the Peking duck. The only dishes that we actually enjoyed was the crispy chicken and the beef with potatoes, those were the only dishes that had flavor, all of the other dishes needed some help. They only saved a certain amount of Peking duck for reservations only, of note there were lots of other popular items on the menu that were sold out. People swear by the Peking duck but there are so many other restaurants around this area that are better, save your money and go somewhere else. Our server was definitely on point with filling up our waters so I'll give them that! But I unfortunately expected a lot more, and for how much each dish is in relation to the small portions that they give and each dish being mid, it's honestly NOT worth the hype. read more

Wanted to try the new restaurant and found out it was soft opening. Decided to give it a try on a Monday afternoon. Was able to walk in right away and was seated promptly. They were still preparing the restaurant as you can hear the workers on the roof with their power tools screwing things down. There were a few tables occupied and were able to peek at what they ordered. The decor is simple and nice. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. She took our drink order and also suggested some dishes that she liked. We ordered the Shiao long bao, liver, fried mushrooms, eggplant, signature fatty meat, and of course the Peking duck. We were curious of the taste and wanted to try these dishes first. There were many other dishes that we earmarked for next time. The chrysanthemum tea came and it was in a cool see through pot, the cups were small and cute. The dumplings came next and this was something the restaurant needed to improve upon. When the guy that was serving us opened the lid to the dumplings, a lot of the condensation water started dripping all over the table and plates. Instead of apologizing, all he said was 'Oops..!' For Jiang Nan to be an uppermost level Chinese restaurant, better training needs to be done for the staff. The Shiao long bao was good but the skin is a bit thick. Only comes in 4 pieces. The rest of the dishes were delicious and would recommend and order again. Except..... The Peking Duck. It was well presented but the taste was a bit subpar. The meat and skin were not crispy and tender, a bit on the dry side. No duck flavor at all. A let down from the picture in the menu. The taste for everything we had, which included the Peking Duck, was mediocre at best. Many of the restaurants in the same plaza offer much better food for a fraction of the price, so don't be tricked by all the Michelin stickers they have on the windows like I was. The duck has a weir taste which is okay. The server who serve us is extremely rude in the way i haven't experienced for a long time. We came here around 4pm on a Wednesday and there was no wait. People started lining up around 5pm. They give you a tablet to order on that has pictures of every item, which is great. You can tell they decorated the interior to look pretty fancy/high-end, but the food was overall just okay, if not disappointing, and for their price, I expected something better. We ordered the half duck, which was good (because it was duck), but not great. The skin wasn't super crispy, and the meat was quite dry. We also ordered the garlic pork belly, which looked great, but eating it was awful. This dish is supposed to have thin, melt-in-your-mouth cuts of pork belly, but instead, I was met with extremely tough-to-chew, thick, overcooked slices of meat. Another person at my table ordered the Foie Gras & Truffle Claypot Rice, which was too mushroom-y for my taste. It also felt like they put way too much cheese or sauce or something in there that made the rice extremely wet and mushy. We also got the sizzling cumin lamb, which, while the lamb was tasty, the majority of the plate was onions. They definitely skimped out on the meat portions. My favorite dish was probably the Stir-Fried Chinese Eggplant with Minced Meat, which was soaked in this delicious sweet and tangy sauce. The eggplant was perfecrly firm and had a good bite to it, though again, they definitely could've had more meat in the dish. I barely even noticed it. Overall verdict: skip this place. You can easily find tastier Chinese/Chinese-fusion food in OC for cheaper. read more

We had a noon reservation in a private room for a party of 10, great for a family gathering. The restaurant is elegant and beautifully decorated. We ordered 14 dishes and enjoyed many of them. Must orders: the sizzling Stir fried pig liver (so tender and flavorful), Peking duck, Cumin beef with potatoes, and the Deep fried snapper with pine nuts in sweet andsour sauce (same delicious sauce as the sweet ands sour pork tenderloin ). One disappointment: the Eel with scallion in hot oil sauce, which is supposed to be a signature dish, arrived late (we had to remind the waiter) and felt a bit greasy. Well, we can buy next door at 99 ranch market and reheat at home. $25 bucks stir fried pea sprouts which is more expensive than Ding Tai Fun veggies and even hard to chew. After we paid the bill, I gently suggested to the server as a new restaurant, they may reconsider the pricing for the pea sprouts, the server asked me back: how much do you think this dish should be! WOW, I doubt they have any training to their servers. Out table just had an over 500 bucks meal and that is the attitude we received back. All dishes are too sweet. Not recommended. read more

The wrappers are so thick and very difficult to separate without tearing it in half. The short rib dish came out brownish in color instead of reddish and the dish is tiny. Steamed shrimp was ok, not much flavor. Fried rice was not mixed well as there's more soy sauce on one side of the dish. The only dish that was decent is crispy beef. I was really disappointed with this place, especially given the prices they're charging. For a Chinese restaurant at this price point, the portions were shockingly small. The biggest letdown was the Peking duck. At $98, you expect a whole duck -- this definitely wasn't one. The portion felt incomplete and nowhere near worth the price tag. If you're going to charge premium prices, the dish needs to actually match the promise. The spare ribs were another miss. The portion was tiny -- more like a sample than a proper dish. Again, the cost didn't justify what arrived at the table. Even the fried rice, which should be a basic win, fell short. You could clearly see white, unstirred rice mixed in, which tells me it wasn't properly cooked or tossed. Overall, the food felt rushed, the portions were skimpy, and the prices were inflated.
