Going to the yum yum shop has been a family tradition going back decades. We still get hermits from here for old times sake. We recently went here - it was very busy but they get you through quickly. The toasted coconut was the best coconut ice cream I've ever had! I wish I lived closer. They're really quick and semi-accurate getting your ice cream out. The seating area out front is really cute, enough seats for at least 6 or seven families. read more

A good bakery spot that also serves ice cream, I believe it is all Giffords ice cream. Giffords is ok ice cream, on par with a typical super market ice cream like Brigham's. It's a little over sugared and processed for my taste, but the variety of flavors is nice and points for also having a variety of ways of serving it like ice cream sandwiches with the cookies from the bakery and ice cream tacos (taco shaped cone). I liked the Mississippi Mud Pie, but it could have used more coffee flavor. Peanut butter pie wasn't great, not peanutty enough and I barely noticed the peanut butter cups in it. E got s'mores which had decent chocolate chunks in it and marshmallow sauce, but the actual base tasted like old graham crackers. The cookies and cream N got was pretty classic, overly sweet too, but yummy. and 3/4s cones (but definitely eat their sugared gingerbread cookies!). Unbelievably wonderful staff and selection of baked goods. The pizza is amazing and white puffy bread is light and fluffy and heavenly.

Ice cream is OK, nothing special. BUT the way they charge customers is CRAZY. After ordering a shake for $5.50, the server looked at my credit card and said, "sorry, we only take cash or checks" and then pointed to fossilized ATM machine on a wall next to the shop. WHO doesn't take electronic payments in 2024!? When I asked her WHY she didn't tell me about this "inconvenience" BEFORE I ordered, she--smiling like a buffoon--pointed to a "cash only" sign the size of a postage stamp. Great, so now she made me jog to my car...parked 200 yards away...to fish out my ATM card, which I pretty much never use anymore....because it's 2024!! But when I pulled out my $20 in cash from the ATM, I was notified that the ATM company will charge me $2 and that my bank will charge me an additional $3....in FEES! So I paid an extra $5 on top of my $5.50 for a shake from these clowns whose payment policy is stuck in the 1980's! Like another Yelp commenter said, this place should be called the Dum Dum Shop. They presented me with an almond milk caramel beverage, and rather than correcting their mistake they pressured me into a accepting the drink that I did not order. No apologies for poor customer service, and the drink tasted bad. Will not be visiting again. read more

Our immediate and extended family has been vacationing in nearby Tuftonboro for the entirety of my life, and some decades before I was born. The Yum Yum Shop has always been a must on the list of to-do's when we're up for vacation. My most recent interaction however, left much to be desired. I called the morning of Wednesday, July 15 at 7:45am to place an order for a large angel food cake with chocolate frosting. As a side note, this was always something we used to be able to walk in and ask for without needing to order in advance...a lesson I learned last summer because this had apparently changed. So I placed this order at the request of my 86 year old grandmother, who was making the 2+ hour drive to visit our family on vacation - you see, these angel food cakes at the Yum Yum Shop have always been her absolute favorite part of vacation, this year was no exception. So I spoke with a young man, placed the order, gave my grandmother's name and then gave an expected pick-up time of Noon-1pm (I couldn't be sure of their exact arrival due to traffic and it being a NASCAR race weekend in NH). My grandparents arrived at the Yum Yum Shop at 12:15, and were told the cake was not yet ready...OK. They then waited for FORTY FIVE MINUTES before the cake was given to them. So let's get this straight....a customer can call ahead, hours in advance, place an order with an expected pick up time, and then be asked to wait anyways? Tsk tsk. My grandmother later explained she thought the cake was actually still frozen when she arrived, and they then scurried to bring it up to temp before handing it over to her. Cut to me opening up the cake later that night...wow. The cake was caved in on one side, leading me to believe that it was frosted before it was cooled. It was then placed on a cake round and into the box, completely off center so half of the frosting was stuck to the inside of the box. Seriously?! It's my understanding, from a family member who owns a house nearby, that management has changed and quality of products and customer service has since made a steep decline. It's such a shame as my ENTIRE family has been frequenting this establishment for well over 20 years. I don't think we'll be back next summer unless something changes.... read more

We've been going here for years. And I don't know why... Their cookies and muffins are nothing to brag about. I'd rather go up the street to Dunkin Donuts and get something that has some flavor. I'd love to give the $$ to the local guy, but their stuff has just really gone downhill... :( read more

The seating area is cool and spacious with a great view of Lake Winnipesaukee. The coffee and pastries were average in taste. Nothing in the display case was labeled. The teenage girl working behind the counter appeared uninterested and spoke very little. Most of her conversation was used to correct us on the names of the pastries we ordered. Maybe we will try it again next year when we are back looking at the fall foliage. read more

A piece of Wolfeboro history! I hope they never close down for good! I believe that they have changed owners but it is still an amazing place to go. I can still remember it as a child and going there and getting gingerbread that this is Kelly with me! Then later on in life when I was 15 or 16 hour there! Right in the center of the action downtown Wolfeboro, Yum Yum's is perfectly placed for the tourist visitors. The serving sizes are on the large size, and the ice cream was ok. Not bad just okay. There's always a lot of activity there and that makes it fun. There places to sit outside, they have oldies music playing on a loudspeaker. so if you want to be in the middle of the action this is the place to be. Close to the docks and the waterfront it makes a perfect end to an awesome day on the lake. read more

Went here on a Friday in the afternoon and bought a Whoopie Pie which was marked as costing $3.50 but I was charged $4.01. Not sure why. It was good but probably not worth the price. My daughter, Haleigh, received a Gingie Box this week. When I say ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS, I am not exaggerating. Even my husband who is not a gingerbread fan said "these cookies taste amazing"! The cookies are very moist, not hard as I was expecting for a mail shipped product. The kit also included more than enough incredible tasting icing to decorate or simply spread over the cookies. I don't even know where to start with this review... Okay. Let's handle this like adults. I will, at least, not anyone at the Yum Yum Shop. I emailed a few months ago (and when I say a few, I mean in early summer) about having them do my wedding cake. I live in California but was getting married in Alton, NH, so I wanted to get a jump on it so I could get in for a cake tasting when I was back east. It took me a few emails and phone calls to finally get a hold of someone. When my then fiance and I went in for the cake tasting, the guy we were meeting, Pete, was running late. Not a big deal. We tasted cakes, they were fine, blah blah, everything was just fine. He tells me that I don't need to put in my order until 1-2 weeks before the wedding date, which I told him was October 17th. Repeat: I TOLD HIM MY WEDDING DATE. Remember that, it will come in handy. Cut to three weeks before my wedding. I send the email a little earlier than anticipated just because I'm me and weddings are stressful. A week later and I still hadn't gotten anything back, but no big deal. A few days after that and I'm starting to stress. I called the shop about nine days before my wedding and was told Pete would call me back. Two days later (this brings it to one week before my wedding), I call again, and get the same response and still no call back. The Monday before my wedding, I call. Guess what? THEY'RE CLOSED FOR THE SEASON. They literally have a voicemail recording that says, "we are closed for the season. Do not leave a message." I sent multiple emails WEEKS before this and called numerous times. And they're closed. for. the SEASON. You want to let people know that when they tell you their wedding date? No, not that's okay. Don't do that. Fortunately I have amazing family friends and had a homemade wedding cake that was miles more tasty than the mediocre cake here. read more

Because I grew up going to the Yum Yum Shop, I dreamed of one day marrying a gingerbread man. You must stop in here! The bread that they make is so good that they sell out of it by mid-day. I love the rye swirl and the honey corn bread. Also, they make flat panned pizza which is great when you are walking around town and you want a bite. Donuts are amazing and the cookies!!! The cookies - hermits, gingerbread men and at least 10 other kinds. But I have saved the best for last... the angel food cake drizzled with chocolate. We have to stop at the Yum Yum shop when we're in Wolfeboro - for the fresh bread, pastries and cookies. Their buttery goodness that they call "cookies" are absolutely delicious. The only pastry I didn't care for were their napoleons - mainly because I have had the absolute best napoleons from another pastry shop where I live that I have yet to find anything comparable. Every time we're in town, we get a dozen or two cookies to take back to the cottage. read more

This place rocks! Came here with my family for some fresh bread. Got some cheese bread, which I have never had before. All I can say is, WOW! I am now going to try to find a bakery even half as awesome back home. The bread was super moist and tasted like a little piece of heaven. You can eat it with nothing on it and not toasted and it melts in your mouth. YUM YUM!!! Recommend this place for sure. Get yourself some fresh bread, or any of the tasty treats they offer and you won't be let down! We even got to watch one of the gals make flowers to put on a cake. Lunch and a show! The Yum Yum Shop has been a staple since I was a kid and before. I have fond memories of my grandmother taking my sister and I here for a treat on weekends. The decor is cute and geared toward children, with oversized gingerbread motif benches and tables. The baked goods are just as good today as I remember. The gingerbread cookies alone are to die for. They've added a little deli off to the side which offers really great sandwiches and more which I highly recommend. The deli has very sporadic hours, so I recommend to call ahead to be sure it's open. They take phone orders as well, and I think they offer shipping as well. Check their website for coupons! Now the complaints: It's a bit of a free-for-all trying to get the attention of the mostly teenaged staff when it gets busy. The deli is excellent, but the sporadic hours have occasionally been a disappointment. I've visited the deli regularly, and it seems they are constantly out of turkey, or sides. I've found that although the menu clearly states what sides each sandwich comes with, rarely do I get them without a reminder to the reluctant staff (make sure you get a cookie!) My biggest complaint with the deli... do you place your order by the register or the deli counter? The answer is at the deli counter, but apparently if you stand by the register and are pushy enough, you can cut in front of everybody in line. read more

I give this place two stars, and that's being generous. The place is definitely great looking, but that's really all it is. The original place may have been a bit rustic but at least the food they put out was hands down delicious. So besides the parking being a complete nightmare (which there is not much you can do in that location) there were a total of eight kids working and I do mean kids. No adult to be found, the lack of professionalism was clearly abundant. They all seemed to be lost, not knowing where anything was, I was trying to carry on a casual conversation with the young man taking care of me, that was just a fleeting thought. He was rude and very nonchalant about even talking. He was more worried about the young lady working near him. As far as the quality of the doughnuts that I ordered, they actually looked great, but looks were very deceiving I was expecting a doughnut that was close to the original. I do realize however the original is pretty hard to compare. They definitely were not the same it was a sort of sad attempt at a great doughnut but just came up very short. And the prices are clearly aimed for the tourists. Very sad to see this great landmark in Wolfeboro is now just a tourist trap. read more

Very impressed. It is hard to compete with your own history. Of course everything you had thirty years ago was better through the lens of nostalgia. It was more about the time and place then the taste and smells. How many times have you heard someone say that their grandmother made the best something another??? Was it really the best? The new Yum Yum shop is much nicer and more accommodating. It is both more modern and yet very familiar at the same time. Except the rack of t-shirts. However, it will always be about the pastries and my wife and I sampled a quite a few different delectable delights in two separate visits. We were impressed. I think it is very close to the original back in the day. I agree that the last days of the original Yum Yum Shop were not their best efforts. But I think the new Yum Yum shop is excellent. Danish were out of this world, gingerbread were as I remembered them and the cookies were good too. I think they can now improve on the original recipes here and there with the right bakery staff. Remember, this business seems like it is 50 years old, but when we visited it was only 10 days old. This is a brand new business, just opened. So I expect further improvement as they work out some of the kinks. If it were not for my waist line, I would be a regular every day. I will need a little extra cardio from now on. read more

Got a small assortment to share with my family while visiting the area. My son loved the gingerbread cookies but he's four - he will eat anything sweet. They were not really gingery enough and just blah. We also tried the little turnovers - doughy and bland. The raspberry pinwheel was good but not amazing. I went there twice this week, some family members went three times. First word that come to mind is disorganized. About half the pastry on display was not labelled and not obvious what it was. We got the deer-in-the-headlight look when we pointed and inquired what a certain item was. Some of the labels were not on the correct item. Cashing out, there is not central register. We had to be led to a remote register to pay. Two times the cashier had trouble with the register and had to ask for help. My glazed donut was quite filling, about twice the weight as your DD glazed donut, but only half as good. The loaf of "health" bread we purchased was a let down compared to what we bought in the past. Not bad, just not good. We will be back in the area in September expecting a better experience.
