Yumami 5 stars Across the board. And this is why. Yumami is a boutique shop nestled in a small but I would say mighty kitchen. Powered by three beautiful heart warming ladies who work their ass off to cook up what I believe is a quality meal at a very affordable price without skimping on the quality. Everyone working there is genuine. From the moment you walk up you are greeted with smiles, a welcoming hello, and sounds of sizzling fresh food being made to order. It sits right across the street from Moos Craft Barbecue and Tiera Mia coffee on Broadway in Lincoln heights. I found this place through yelp after an exhaustive search attempting to find something healthy, fresh, and made with love that my stomach can trust. While also fitting the price point I would prefer to pay for daily/weekly purchases - when I don't feel like cooking twice in one day. All I can say is. It's well worth, not only the money but your time, tastebuds and health! Their menu is set up very cleanly, they have a kiosk that doesn't confuse you and they have mix and match options that center around their base of veggies. Featuring Shanghai Bok choy, baby bok choy, and mustard greens, and or egg noodle if you are looking for a carb. I typically select the Shanghai bok choy to which the owner owns a farm for which is where they source the ingredients. You can choose a large size for 12 or regular size for 10 and you can always split the order with one of their other meat selection such as rib eye, pork loin, chicken, and short rib. All served with a house made sauce that I can't really describe in any other way than some kind of clean light butter sauce that adds a nice warmth and savory umami flavor. (Not saying it is butter though) I cannot speak on the red meats but as far as the tofu and the chicken they are cooked very well. Loads of flavor. Never dry. The ingredients are fresh. The bok choy comes out crunchy and piping hot like it's been have cooked in a wok which you can hear it has been l. And it's cooked to perfection. And the tofu is wonderfully silky and smooth. Sprinkled with sesame. It's one of those local shops that I feel makes the local neighborhood stronger simply because it is providing what 90 percent of establishments do not. Which is healthy food! They've chosen to make healthy food and we are thankful ! If you're in the neighborhood. Or even in downtown or close by. Give them a try and make sure to try their Bok choy apple juice. Yes I said that. Bok choy apple juice. 3$ for 8 ounces made fresh. Served nice a cool. 5 stars. Shout out to Cindy. If you are looking for. Teriyaki joint like I did... this place is little different~ It's a rice bowl place with Asian seasoned (want to say Chinese?) protein and fresh veggie and rice. Straight up simple, but it does the trick if you are looking for an Asian fix in Lincoln Heights that's not overtly sweet and too soy saucy- No place to eat. My coworkers and I were working in the area so we got Yumami for lunch and it was pretty good! I really liked the amount of food for the price. I got a large short rib box with half rice half noodles and bok choy. Loved the noodles since I don't generally see that as an option. The bok choy was cooked really well, loved that. I only had one issue...I thought based on the pictures that the short ribs were going to be marinated in a Korean/Hawaiian galbi way. They are not. They were good but mostly just salty and peppery, not at all galbi like I wanted. So, good food overall but if you're looking for Korean/Hawaiian style galbi, it's not lol. read more

The greens are basically whatever they give you. I have ordered bok choy, S bok choy and both times I got mustard greens mixed in. Over 10 years ago there was a Chinese restaurant in Hollywood that offered the exact same food as Yumami. It didn't survive but I'm glad this place was so close to my house. I don't know why the owner of Yumami gave themselves a Japanese name because this is a Chinese restaurant. Food is delicious and very affordable. read more

I imagine parking can be a pain in the butt in this area when it is very busy. The restaurant itself only has 2 spots adjacent to their business and only a couple of outdoor tables under a tent. I ordered the large grilled short ribs with brown rice and mixed veggies of bok choy, Shanghai green choy and Chinese mustard greens. It cost $14 and is a substantial and pretty generous amount of food for one person. The food was freshly made and delicious BUT the short ribs were way too salty. I loved the veggies and saw on their Yelp page that they come from their own farm - they were obviously very fresh and tender. I'll try another protein next time with hopes it won't be nearly as salty as the short ribs which were otherwise perfectly tender and had a lovely smoky, grilled taste. read more

Very fast to prepare n can't judge by the size of the box. I got the Galbi set (prime rib). About $13. Baby bol choy, brown rice. The galbi was very thin. Maybe too much garlic salt(?). It was quite salty. Bok choy was ok. Little less salt may help. The brown rice helped to eat the whole box with all the salt. Maybe it's only me with the salty taste. The meat itself was marinated for a while as the flavor is deep, but it's not restaurant galbi do dont expect...more like a dosirak galbi. Either way a good lunch. A side of kimchi in the corner would have been nice lol. There are like 2 ladies working here. A tiny shop. I think u can eat outside at the Canopy tables? Front Parking can only fit 1-2 cars...3 at max if possible. I think theres a parking lot in the back. The orders are taken by Digital format on a screen. Not sure if they take cash. read more

The large portion was generous, even tho I super hungry I was satisfied about 3/4 of the way thru. Regular should be fine for most people, but for the $2 difference go large and take the leftover home. The sauce is creamy and delicious, didn't really need anything else but they do offer a hot sauce that compliments well. The rice is a short grain and seasoned with sesame, so flavorful on its own.
