Regular short rib with rice and bok choy
    Katie B.

I was happily surprised by this spot! Great food at a great price. I loved the bok choy. Short rib was more of a dry rub, not similar to galbi in anything other than cut, but I liked it plenty. The white sauce was nice, I think a little miso? The red sauce was VERY spicy!

My coworkers and I were working in the area so we got Yumami for lunch and it was pretty good! I really liked the amount of food for the price. I got a large short rib box with half rice half noodles and bok choy. Loved the noodles since I don't generally see that as an option. The bok choy was cooked really well, loved that. I only had one issue...I thought based on the pictures that the short ribs were going to be marinated in a Korean/Hawaiian galbi way. They are not. They were good but mostly just salty and peppery, not at all galbi like I wanted. So, good food overall but if you're looking for Korean/Hawaiian style galbi, it's not lol.

Reduced portion but not the price.

First, I would like to say that the food is good but today we got bamboozled. The beef portion shrunk and the noodles portion grew considerably. What's going on Sandy? Are we going to blame gas prices, tariffs, the war in Iran, global warming? Come on. This is totally sus.

First time trying this recently & I am so happy I found this small establishment! Miss sandy is always so sweet & welcoming. The food is just as great, don't forget to add their sesame sauce it's soooo good! I work around the area so I will definitely come in any chance that I get.

I'm so happy. One of my favorite lunch spots ever was in Hollywood and it closed down years ago... I always talked about my ideal type of bowl with bok choy, ribeye, and a carb all covered in this incredible sesame sauce. Today saw that this mom and pop actually reopened at a different location in Lincoln Heights. Can't wait to get this regularly again!

Over 10 years ago there was a Chinese restaurant in Hollywood that offered the exact same food as Yumami. It didn't survive but I'm glad this place was so close to my house. I don't know why the owner of Yumami gave themselves a Japanese name because this is a Chinese restaurant. Food is delicious and very affordable.

Outstanding! If you're anywhere near the area and are looking for a quick grab and go lunch spot this is definitely it! The short ribs were flavorful and cooked to perfection! Rice and bok choy had this rich subtle buttery flavor to them that was just *chef's kiss*! You place your Oder on the huge screen at the front window, wait a few min and then you are served a great lunch at $14. Awesome spot!

Short Ribs Beef LARGE for $14 (with brown rice and mixed veggies)

I imagine parking can be a pain in the butt in this area when it is very busy. The restaurant itself only has 2 spots adjacent to their business and only a couple of outdoor tables under a tent. I ordered the large grilled short ribs with brown rice and mixed veggies of bok choy, Shanghai green choy and Chinese mustard greens. It cost $14 and is a substantial and pretty generous amount of food for one person. The food was freshly made and delicious BUT the short ribs were way too salty. I loved the veggies and saw on their Yelp page that they come from their own farm - they were obviously very fresh and tender. I'll try another protein next time with hopes it won't be nearly as salty as the short ribs which were otherwise perfectly tender and had a lovely smoky, grilled taste.

But let me tell you this place was a blessing in disguise!! First this place is in small little shop with a counter and man does this place have some charm they don't make restaurants like this no more, and we were able to snag a boot, and when I say small they have 3 booths and a counter with 6 seats and this place filled up fast. Now to the food, got the combination with sashimi and chicken teriyaki and my buddy got the tempura and the cut sushi rolls... everything was amazing, came out quick and hit the spot something about small mom and pop restaurants that hit different form the Chains. Service here can't get any better, our waitress was so nice and despite this place being packed she was very attentive and just a great person to talk to about the history of this restaurant. I love the ambiance here, very charming and just feels like going to grandmas house I dunno!! Overall I will definitely come back for the pork katsu looks delicious!! The sea urchins one is creamy and VERY RICH. The cream sauce bend in really well with the sea urchins. But definitely not something you would order if you are on a weaker stomach. The duck udon is flavorful with plenty of meat. The soup pair perfectly with the udon as well. There was a line outside before it opened. But not too bad. They got a little eating area outside right next to the street and I saw people ate there with their dog as well. I guess that they are "kinda" dog friendly?

Udon noodles were good, but it was not excellent. It did have light chewy texture. BUT in comparison to Meiji Seimen, it fell short, really short! I was disappointed. BEEF BOWL It was delicious! Beef was tender and moist and loved the caramelized onion too. Rice was delicious too, not dry nor mushy. Served with pickled red ginger. A very satisfying bowl. Sat at the bar, so watched them make udon from scratch, which was nice. WAIT LIST There was a line when I got there, just as it opened. It wasn't long, but everyone wrote their name down on a wait list. There's a sheet of paper placed on the table outside. Please write your name down ASAP, as that will help in making sure that you will grab a seat. Also, the lines are disorganized too, so it's best to write down your name, so no one cuts in front of you. It is a small restaurant. Limited seats. CUSTOMER SERVICE It was okay. Everyone got in the restaurant in the order they came in. Service was quick and there were no delays in taking orders. The server came by quickly and dropped off the check as she saw that I was nearly finished with my meal. PARKING Parked at Joe's Autoparks. It was $15! I did not know until after I paid the ticket. Very difficult to find parking in this area, so not many options unless you want to walk really far, back to your car in 90 degree heat. There was another parking garage next to Joe's, but the price was the same! Would I come back again? Not sure. Given that the udon wasn't what I expected, it may be my last time here. Also, parking sucks.

The interior of the restaurant itself is very industrial and it's a super cute date spot. Parking is paid tho (as with most places in LA). We had a reservation on a Friday at 6:30 and were seated immediately. Our servers were super attentive and kind and our food came out relatively quickly as well. As for the food tho... it was a bit of a let down for us. Bing with cultured butter and honey - 4/5 If you come here, the one thing I do recommend is the Bing. The bread comes out warm and is super soft and fluffy in the inside, while having a crisp outside. I liked the touch of black pepper with the butter and honey, but it was a bit too much honey for my liking. Besides the bread itself, the dip wasn't anything special but dill delicious nonetheless. Bing with smoked fish and crème fraiche - 4/5 I think this is my favorite thing that we ordered. The smoked salmon paired well with the creaminess and slight tang of the crème fraiche, and I also loved the touch of dill. Nothing outstanding again, but the cold dip provided a nice temperature contrast w the warm bread. Mushroom crispy rice - 4/5 Loved the variety of mushrooms on the crispy rice. It had a nice umami flavor that paired well with the rice that had a nice crisp texture. It was a bit on the heavy side tho -- I wish it had a touch of lemon zest or something acidic to brighten up the dish. Bossam - 2.5/5 This was unfortunately the biggest let down of our meal. Priced at $135 I would have expected more, but it just tasted like a typical bbq pork shoulder. It was super heavy and greasy and even with the sides of lettuce, kimchi, pickled onions, and ssamjang, the fat still left a slightly unpleasant mouthfeel. The meat itself was very tender tho which I can appreciate. Also, I'm surprised this dish is called bossam, as it is not the traditional boiled pork belly. It didn't even have any sort of asian flavor besides the sides. When I read reviews online, this was by far the most hyped up dish, but we did not love it. All in all, I'm glad I tried the restaurant once but I would not personally come back. The ambiance is super nice, yet the food was unfortunately a let down.
