Located in Oakland Chinatown on 10th Street between Webster and Harrison. This Dim Sum spot is still affordable. Most types of their dumplings and items are about $1.25 each, or $5 for a box of 4. They accept credit cards but there's a small percentage charge to help cover their fees. I ordered the siu mai (4 steamed pork dumplings), har gow (4 steamed shrimp dumplings), tofu skin rolls (3 rolls filled with water chestnuts, woodear mushrooms and minced pork), and 1 ham sui gok (deep fried mochi dumpling filled with minced meat). Not bad for a quick and fast pickup at the counter. Street parking in this area is challenging since it's Chinatown, but you can be in and out for takeout orders. They do have about 4 tables inside if you wish to dine in.

My favorite place to grab man tao and Malaysian cake. I highly recommend as they are not too sweet and is very reminiscent of your mom making pastries at home. They are super affordable and have tables inside for you to eat your dim sum or baos. I typically grab to go but their spare ribs rice or meat cake rice is also very tasty and something Chinese people love eating. The service is quick and the ladies working are very sweet. Sometimes they get intimidated when you don't speak Cantonese but they have an English translate menu with picture on the side you can also point to.

Good grief, Charlie Brown! My first time visiting in a just about a year, and prices went up again! Same tasty food, albeit a little smaller in size, and way too expensive for takeout dim sum! One order of shrimp dumplings or pork dumplings USED TO cost $3. Last year it went up to $4. Now it's $5! And still hungry after eating too!

My favorite item here is their combination steamed bun, aka the dai gai bao (big chicken bun). The dough of their steamed bun is just the right texture. It's not too dry, and it's not too moist. The filling of their bao includes large chunks of chicken, hard boiled egg, Chinese sausage, and black mushroom. The filling is seasoned nicely but I have encountered chicken bone occasionally, so be aware. I think they're a bargain at $3 each! Try them! Cash only. They have pictures you can point to order.

Located in one of the side streets next to the Asian Cultural Center in Oakland Chinatown, Yummy Dim Sum isn't a place that people will regularly wander into on a whim. From the outside, it's actually not terribly easy to tell there's a dim sum place here as it has an unappealing sign, and when you get inside, it's the same as well, but coming to Yummy Dim Sum will be for a very different experience than if you were to go to Peony Seafood Restaurant just a short walk over. What Yummy Dim Sum does offer though, is cheap and affordable dim sum, to-go (no sitting in at the moment). When you first walk in, there's just a couple of large menu boards on the left, and the counter to order is on the right. The staff here is going to be hit or miss, as this was literally the experience of one staff was friendly, the other one didn't really care about anything than getting us out the door. But considering it's a takeout only place, I guess service isn't really much of an expectation to begin with. First, let's talk about the price just to get that out of the way. They are probably the cheapest place that offers dim sum in this area out of all the places. Back in the day, there had been several dim sum places, and you had more options for an actual dim sum restaurant to eat out. Nowadays, there's really just one main dim sum place in this immediate area, and that is Peony. There's a wide variety of other restaurants though that will also offer dim sum, and other takeout only dim sum places too but at a much higher price. Yummy Dim Sum will off you the best bang for your buck if you just want dim sum. Food wise, because of how cheap it is, you get what you pay for. While it's not bad when taking into account how much you're paying, it's certainly not going to blow you away by any means. The portions are small, but not so small that it's no good, but also more like a taste of dim sum, rather than a meal of it. Again, price to portion, it's about what you would expect. Their ha gao is pretty good, their shu mai is not bad and actually has shrimp and not just pork, their shrimp roll is okay, and their pastries were pretty good. The baos here were hit and missing with the chasu bao and the chicken bao, but not too bad. They charge you on the pastries stuff per piece, while most of the other dim sum dishes are done in a tiny batch, like 3 pieces, but if you take into account the per cost, it's the same thing really. All in all, Yummy Dim Sum is a great place for those who are just looking for a cheaper option, eating food that's not bad and in some places pretty good, and want takeout. Naming themselves Yummy Dim Sum was certainly overreaching in the first place, so there was no chance they would meet that standard. However, I would still be comfortable calling them, Yummy Enough Dim Sum, which looking at this case I am all for. Pop on in if you're interested in some takeout dim sum without having to pay much more at almost every other place around in the area, at least nowadays.

Considering rising crime rates, asian hate, and the pandemic, this place raising their dim sum prices $1.25 dollar is no big deal among a trend of restaurants closing in chinatown. Their dim sum is very small. A few of the wrapped dim sum tasted sour, and even bitter; maybe it's not fresh? I don't recommend the rice-wrapped dumplings and rolls, definitely not the shrimp dumplings. The siu mai and shark fin dumplings were okay-ish. I do recommend trying the bamboo roll. Their $5 sweet rice chicken was incredibly mediocre, however it tasted like it was supposed to. Staff is reasonably friendly; albeit sullen. At the time, they only have take-out. Bag fee is 20 cents. Place could use better lighting, it's pretty dark inside.

I'm giving Yummy Dim Sum another try on a Sunday. I ordered Har Gow, Shu Mai, and Pork Spareribs. The pork and shrimp dumplings were okay. I found a piece of hard to chew pork tendon in the Shu Mai. The pork spareribs are a small serving. And they add chunks of taro that's the same color as the pork. Oh well, now I know why there's a big line at Ming's Tasty....1/2 a block away.

Sought out delicious dim sum takeout for Yelp's #LocalAdventureChallenge (https://bit.ly/EastBayLocalAdventureChallenge) and sadly Tao Yen and Sum Yee were both closed on Sunday (though both are listed as open all weekend). Despite the negative reviews on Yelp, I decided to give Yummy Dim Sum a chance hoping that they'd pleasantly surprise me. Unfortunately this is about a 2.5 dim sum experience, with their affordable prices being the most positive thing here (most items are $2.75). I guess this was a true case of, "you get what you pay for". I'm happy to report that none of the items made me feel sick, but having eaten dim sum my whole life, I could tell the quality just wasn't there. Nothing tasted particularly fresh, the beef balls were too soft and a little soggy, the short ribs lacked meat, and the siu mai and har gow were super small and tasted a little off. And my favorite item, the beef rice noodle rolls, barely had any beef in them. I might go back if I'm desperate for a cheap dim sum fix, but would definitely go elsewhere if other options were available. Note that the ordering process I went through was simply walking in and pointing to the menu and listing off items to one of the staff members. At 1pm on a Sunday they had already sold out of the Chinese chive dumplings and cilantro shrimp dumplings (maybe I'll try for those again if I happen to go back).

Gai baozi (steamed chicken bun). Good filling to bun ratio. Something tasted a bit off with the chicken, but it was still tasty.

Update: Came back for gai baozi (steamed chicken bun). The bun came out warm, and the dough was the right consistency and taste. However, something tasted a bit off with the chicken filling. Possibly, the oil. I also found a small hair inside. Despite everything, the bun was still tasty, warm, and affordable. Hard to beat at this price point.

Busy hole in the wall. Very popular and for good reason. I had spareribs, custard dim sum, shrimp dim sum and a sesame ball. It was all amazing. Good prices, fast service. At first a little kid came and sat st my booth. I thought, hmmm, that's weird. Maybe this place has shared seating? Then the kid left. Then a minute later two Chinese speaking ladies came and sat st my booth. No conversation but it was nice to eat with others. I like this place. Even though I don't speak Chinese I felt very welcome. One hundred percent I will go back here, I look forward to it.

    $35 worth of dim sum

It's not bad if you have a craving and want cheap dim sum. The shu mai dumplings and har how here is only like 2.50 for 3/4! Sure we cheap. Fed 5 people got $35 and we were full. It comes with tea too! Standouts was the sticky rice as I thought it had a lot of flavor. The fried dumpling and friend potsticker were good too with the mocha like coating outside. They also have a lot of buns. It's more of a takeout place but they do have a few tables and the ladies that work here are so nice and showed us the whole inventory to pick from. The rice cakes, turnip cake etc was def more rice than than meat and the meatballs were eh. A lot of them didn't have distinct flavors but it got the craving done for cheap.

We have visited many times over the years, most recently in June 2026 on a Tuesday during lunch. It is consistently popular, both on weekdays and weekends. Place: The restaurant is spacious and clean, including the bathrooms, which are well maintained. Food: The food is very good and fresh. They no longer use traditional carts; instead, you order from a menu at the start, which we actually prefer. The wait time was short, and the first dishes arrived quickly. They also provide plastic containers if you would like to take leftovers home. Staff: When we arrived, no one was at the front counter, but a staff member came within a minute and seated us by the window. Our first time with that view! A server promptly took our tea order and brought it shortly after. Throughout the meal, different staff members delivered our dishes efficiently. However, it was sometimes difficult to get someone's attention, as everyone seemed busy and moving quickly. No one checked in on us during the meal. We flagged staff three times: for water, a fork, and a refill. Each time, they were responsive and helpful. The challenge was simply getting their attention. Overall, the service could be improved, but the food, setting, and overall experience keep us coming back.

Total was about $24. The shrimp were huge and very tasty. I recommend you eat them right away so they don't get soggy in the unvented container. Even though the container is small (about the size of a pint), they really load up and fill it. I think they fit more than a pound of shrimp in there for me. Hence why it contributed to my surprising total cost coming out to be $24 for this + only 3 other single items I got. Their steamed dumplings are also about 25% larger than your typical dim sum dumpling. I tried the round and crescent moon shaped ones. Both had a good ratio of filling, the dumpling skin was not too chewy, and tasted pretty good too. The fried sesame ball was also sizable, but really doughy and not my favorite. Had a thick mochi skin, compared to the red bean filling inside. It was pretty crowded on a weekday at 10:30am but the line moved quick. Also this is CASH ONLY payment.

This time, we ordered a few dishes to try - the classic sesame paste noodles, Shan Dong chicken, the fried rice with shrimp, and the hot spicy eggplant. Since we did order delivery on a busy Saturday night, it took a little over an hour for our food to arrive. The food was expertly packed and we were given plenty of utensils and napkins. The sesame paste noodles are one of my favorite dishes here, there's a balance of sweet and salty offered in the creamy sesame paste sauce that's so addicting. I've always been a big fan of the hand-pulled noodles which are thick, bouncy and chewy. The Shan Dong chicken is deep fried and coated in a delicious sauce. It is more of the sweeter side if you're looking for something that's spicy. I appreciate that we were given large pieces as well! The fried rice with shrimp is amazing - I love the crunch of the green onion, the softness of the fried egg, and the texture of the rice and veggies which weren't soggy and still held a nice bite. Last but not least, the hot spicy eggplant was a great choice because it's usually the trickier dish to cook as eggplant can turn really soft and mushy. I was delighted that with the way it was prepared, the large eggplant pieces still held a tender texture that did not fall apart. I also enjoyed the sauce that was paired with the eggplant, which is oyster-sauce based and added a pleasant sweetness as well. I'm always looking forward to my next visit and I love supporting Shan Dong!
