I've been here several times. The food is above average however the service is spotty at best. Always seems to be something wrong. Either out of something or something not available. Also strangely they refuse to serve lemon or limes with any drinks. Not that they don't have them - they only use them for the kitchen. Still not sure what that means. Sushi is solid. I've been a customer since their days in the strip mall next to marazzos grocery store. I usually get a special roll (spicy blazing and Nemo are my favorites) and the spicy salmon roll. Both are of excellent quality. I'll add that the standard rolls are excellent in light of the relatively lower cost (6 pieces versus 8 with special rolls). The rolls are fat. I know some have negatively commented on the rice ratio being too high, I like it that way. They don't skimp on the fish. The portions and quality of the fish are excellent in my opinion. This is a mom and pop operation and I gladly support local businesses! Service is awesome. I haven't dined in at the TCNJ location but it looks good inside from what I can tell. Sushi is their mainstay. If you venture outside of the Japanese fare, the general Tso's chicken is solid. Pho is pretty good. Pad Thai... well, I was not impressed as it tends to be very bland - I would not recommend but I laud the effort. Overall, this is a fine establishment and I recommend it as it deserves to thrive based on overall food quality, independence as a business entity in the area (we should all support our local businesses) and the warmth provided by the ownership. First time visiting since they moved to campus town. Their service was pretty bad. We walked in and were greeted right away, but the hostess ran back into the kitchen and didn't seat us. We ended up choosing our table in the back, but they did help us move the table. Then a kid who looked like he just walked off of campus came and took our order (gym shorts, sneakers, T-shirt and hat). It also took a long time to get water for everyone. Everyone's food came out at separate times, and someone from the kitchen was even bringing it out. Their udon soup didn't have any shrimp or chicken, despite the description stating otherwise. The broth was pretty flavorless as well. Their tempura was good though. We also got a lobster roll that had four HUGE pieces that were really difficult to eat with chop sticks. They still add a lot of rice to their rolls. Everything else was to our liking though - bento boxes and salads. The quality of the food seemed to go down with their move unfortunately. read more

I come in with my friends to order my take out it was super hot outside so I changed my mind and I wanted to eat inside so after she gave me my food I asked if I could sit and eat and she denied me. It was very embarrassing, it was racist if you ask me I'm a Latina my girlfriend is black and my best friend is Italian/MiddleEastern . we felt very discriminated as the three staff members shared a very nasty look as they decided weather we were allowed to eat in or not after they told us no my friend who was already sitting for up and we left with no question while everyone in the restaurant stared at us. I primarily order for lunch. The best and freshest sushi in the area as well as delicious noodles. I especially enjoy the spicy tuna handrolls, tuna avocado, beef yaki udon, ramen, and tuna poke bowls with extra tuna. I had the pleasure of having the sushi burrito recently and it is much more filling than their competitors. The only tip I would suggest is that I order the poke bowls with spicy mayo sauce on the side instead of their spicy sauce. Throughout college, I always came here with friends whenever we would feel like treating ourselves or if we were going through some rough times. The food is super delicious, and the place is owned by a lovely family who'll always make sure you're taken care of. I personally always love getting the Pho, Katsu Don, or a New Moon Roll. Yummy Sushi has moved to newer digs just off the College of New Jersey campus, but their food hasn't changed along with it. It had been a few years since last visit because I found everything I tried from pho to sushi rolls was average at best. Today I ordered their teriyaki salmon bento box, and must report that nothing has changed. The rolls are still on the thick side with far more rice wrap than contents. Made for an adequate chew, but lacking in much taste beyond the soy/wasabe/ginger additive. It was nice to see they were using white ginger. If all the iceberg and cabbage were removed, there really wasn't much to the meal. Two small shumai, 2x4 grilled salmon with decent teriyaki BBQ sauce, and the six roll segments. Not complaining about the $12.95 tag, but a little more real food would have made for a better value. Yummy is still a family place with Granny sitting in the corner and now teenage kids in the opposite corner yakking while serving customers. No problem with service otherwise. There are still better choices nearby if higher quality dishes are your priority. read more

Favorite place to get sushi, asian food, and bubble tea! Fresh food made with love and A++ service! Their sushi is by far the best in Central Jersey--rolls are stuffed and aren't skimpy like most sushi takeout/restaurants. My family and I usually order the Eel Dragon, California, and Dancing Dragon rolls and we never leave without at least ordering the Thai Curry Chicken or Malaysian Curry because both are delicious. I highly recommend their sushi-burrito--a recent discovery and one of my new favorite item! (with a taro or melon milk bubble tea on the side of course). The best combo out there! read more

There was a strange couple sitting to the side and for a Fri night the place was extremely empty. It looked like a nicer Chinese restaurant. I didn't know what size the sushi rolls would be so I stuck with the chinese food. I got the sweet and sour shrimp and my friend got General Tso's Chicken. The sweet and sour shrimp was ok, there was no choice of rice and brought about 6 large shrimps and that's it for $12. My friend's portion was much larger, not impressive either. This is not a place that I would be coming back to...maybe the sushi is better, but by the mere look of the place I didn't want to have it. In a nutshell, this place has great tasting pho and sushi! Be ready for a long wait for your food, especially around dinner time as they are short-staffed (with only 1 sushi chef, 1 owner, and 1 student waiter/waitress). Service staff are kind and friendly despite being over worked and busy. I noticed that some common orders were the fried rice, pad Thai, and pho. I'd recommend the BEEF pho over the chicken pho. The chicken is very dry whereas the beef soaks up the broth and tastes better. The noodles are nicely cooked with just the right amount of chewy+soft. If you're looking to get your pho-fix, then the beef pho is for you! My friend got the chicken tempura. Again, the chicken is very dry tho the batter is good and crispy/crunchy. He enjoyed the vegetable tempura a bit more. In addition to 4 pieces of chicken tempura, you get broccoli, sweet potato, and onion tempura which have a smoother batter. I'm a huge fan of the sweet potato tempura!! The milk tea boba (original flavor) is a sure thing and you can't go wrong with it. I don't know about the other flavors, but if you just want a nice milk tea boba, then this is the place to get it! My friend tried the coffee boba, but it wasn't sweet enough for him. But if you like a slightly bitter coffee taste with a smooth creaminess, then get the coffee boba. Bring your own sugar syrup tho if you like your coffee all nasty Dunkin donuts diabetes sweet, lol. Overall this is a great place to grab some Asian food. Be ready for a wait as it is crazy busy in the evenings. Lots of people seem to call in their orders for pickup and that keeps the kitchen and servers super busy. The food is of CONSISTENT quality and the sushi chef is great. Shameless plug, when I eat at sushi places I typically only eat veggie rolls. Overall, satisfied with my meal (cucumber avocado roll, cucumber roll, edamame on the side) and a green tea mochi for dessert. A decent amount of rice on the rolls, cucumber inside the cucumber roll was in one big piece rather than sliced (fine by me). There wasn't low sodium soy sauce on the table so just used the higher sodium soy sauce although we didn't ask for the lower sodium soy sauce (can't you tell I'm a very health conscious eater). I'd prefer the low sodium soy sauce. People were polite and attentive to our table. The space was small, semi-clean but just what we wanted for a casual dinner spot. read more

Dined here during my lunch time. The environment was clean. I we greeted from the moment I walked in and was able to chose wherever I wanted to sit. I ordered the broccoli with garlic sauce. It took quite a while for my order to come (approx. 20 minutes) however once I got my order I was pleasantly surprised of how well the garlic sauce tasted relative to other restaurants I've visited similar to this. The brown rice as well as the vegetable fried rice was very tasty. Again, this seems to be a spot that most TCNJ students frequent and also people who work close by. My advice is that if you plan to dine it, make extra time or place your order before arriving as they were painfully slow in bringing the food out. (7/29/11) My rating is actually a 3.5 star because the food was pretty decent and reasonably priced, but I'm not a fan of this restaurant yet. I recently moved into this town and have been craving for some real East Asian food... So far I haven't tried many places in this area besides a few take-outs from, what I would call, Americanized Chinese fast-food restaurants... but Yummy Sushi would be my first choice among them... too bad they don't do delivery. Yummy Sushi is a small but cozy family-owned restaurant. It is true you'll probably have the owner's daughters serving you, but that doesn't bother me as long as the service is good. I went on a Friday afternoon, and it was pretty packed. I ordered the pho and the Lady in Red (one of the sushi specials). The pho was decent to good, but I wasn't fascinated about it. The beef that came with it was overcooked... usually I like it medium well when it gets to the table so that I can wait a little bit and the beef will be just cooked, soft, and juicy. In brief, the pho was good, but the beef was not my favorite. Then, what I liked was the Lady in Red. It looks just like the picture posted in this website. The taste was pretty good, and the salmon (I think) seemed pretty fresh. My opinion of this restaurant is not set yet, so I will definitely go back again to try other dishes. It's a place worth trying, unlike others around here... (7/31/11) Updating this a little bit... I went back to Yummy Sushi to try other stuff, and this time I ordered shrimp lo mein and New Moon (one the special rolls). I have to say I liked the food better this time. The shrimp from the lo mein were pretty good, unlike other shrimp dishes I've tried before in other restaurants. Also, it was a big dish, so it's worth the price not only in taste but also in quantity. Then the New Moon was really good. I like it very much... better than the Lady in Red. Very scammy place. The food was alright, very bland. The best part was I ordered a Thai tea which tasted terrible, so asked for a soda instead and they said it was no problem. We get the check and it's $26 without the Thai tea. Then when they take my check they decide to be sneaky and add on the Thai tea and then run my card without telling me! If I was still a student at TCNJ this would be an adequate sushi option- walking distance to campus, fresh sushi, and a menu with various Chinese dishes to select from. But if you have a car on campus or are not a college student on a budget, there are definitely better sushi restaurants not too far away. It's a rather small and narrow spot- I felt like I had to squeeze between chairs sometimes (especially when people had large winter jackets and there's a constant take out pick up delivery line). My main issues are threefold: 1. There definitely is way too much rice on every roll that it became too filling and overwhelming. 2. There also wasn't the option of the green low sodium soy sauce. 3. The edamame was not as fully cooked or warm as I would have liked and the presentation was on a regular bowl (a common Corelle one that I use at home- nothing wrong with that but I could've just heated up some frozen edamame myself then). I hate to bash on this restaurant because it's not at all bad. The food was truly just adequate for me. The service is fair- it seemed as though the staff recognize and keep in communication with their frequent customers. read more
