Z Burger has a few locations in DC, but I went to the location in Tenleytown. Their sandwiches are a generous size, and they are dripping with sauce, which is what makes them stand out. Their fries come from Idaho, and they fry them two times, so they are crispy and not greasy. They have 75 flavors of milkshakes, which will appeal to everyone in your group.  I know Z Burger has been around for a while, but I had no idea what I was missing. Total rip off joint. Got some two for one coupons and having never eaten there decided to give it a try. Online chicken sandwich shows price of $5.99....in store price was $7.79...30% higher. Plus the payment pad immediately hits you up for a 15% or 20% or higher tip for a "carry out" order. It gets better...they charge a 10% "packaging fee"...not disclosed. About a 10 minute wait for order. About the only positive is the give you a couple of mini cups of ketchup and what appears to be their Z sauce. Steer clear unless you have more money than brains. Never going back!!!! P.S. They did get the toppings right but chicken patty was only fair and not worth the price. read more

Z-Burger has awesome burgers. This is my second time coming to this location and it does not disappoint! I got the double cheeseburger with tons of toppings (the toppings are FREE, how awesome?!). The burgers are super juicy and delicious (they are smash burgers, btw!), tasty, and their friends are delicious as well! My boyfriend got a milkshake and he enjoyed it (he did say it was a little on the sweet side, though!) On top of that, the manager at this location is extremely nice. He showed me his little garden at the front of the restaurant and even gave me some mint from there! He is very friendly and accommodating! Do try this place out - best burgers in this area! Stopped in to try out the double bacon cheeseburger. The burger was good but not to the same quality of a Habit Burger. The onion rings and fries we rated as good not great. I would have given another star but the facility was not as clean as it should be. I'm not saying dirty but I had to wipe out my seat. In addition they are stingy with napkins. Come on your profits are so tight that when someone asks for extra napkins you give 1. I mean napkins is plural you should give at least two and really 10. The service personnel were rushing us to order even though there was no one behind us in line. There is definitely considerable room for improvement in all aspects of this business. read more

First time here and I took my order to go. I got a cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate cheesecake shake. The burger itself wasn't the best I've ever had but reminded me of 5 guys. The fries and shake beat out the burger in my opinion (why it's 4/5 stars); definitely a absolute must if you go to z burger. They also give a big helping of fries for their regular size. The service was pretty quick waiting for my food. I also highly recommend getting their z sauce on the burger and a side of it for your fries. I like the Z very much. The vibe and flavors are similar to In-N-Out Burger. Straight forward fast food that is good quality, better than McD's, and in a slightly retro storefront. Burger is fine. Standard fast food, but better than BK, McD's, etc. On par with In-N-Out. Cheese steak is good but greasy. Honestly, it did have some good flavor, but unfortunately all of the flavor came via oil that soaked through the bun, the wrapper, and the napkins that we put on it to siphon some oil off. I like the chesse steak, but I don't think I can justify getting one. Shakes are very good. Chocolate is bland, but Vanilla is far from plain. Not too sweet, but a nice rich, not fake taste to it like the chocolate. Recommended. Seasoned Fries came in a bag like at 5 Guys. Way too much, suitable for 4 adults with appetites. Good fries, but the oil soaked back was a little off putting. For a return visit, I'd stick with a single patty cheese burger and the vanilla shake. read more

First off, food was fantastic. Similar in style and price to that of Five Guys. I had cheeseburger with z style fries and both were amazing. Fries real nice, burger a little greasy so if you don't like that maybe choose one of their other options. Don't judge the place by when you first walk in, judge by the food and the whole experience. Location aesthetically could use some work, but I definitely recommend checking it out and giving the burger a try if you haven't. read more

This is one of the first Z-Burger locations in the area. It's newly become meshed with a Z-Sandwich, which I haven't tried yet. Parking is mostly residential street parking, but it isn't too difficult to find. I came here to watch the Independence Burger Eating Competition. They had it outside, so all the competitors and spectators were melting. Fortunately, the Z staff were really great about handing out water. After the competition was over (the winner ate 26 burgers!!!!), the restaurant gave out free burgers to everyone. I don't like or dislike Z-burger's burgers, so I'll eat it when it's around or when friends want to go. I'm not a fan of their shakes. However, they know how to have fun and organize fun events that will strike up business and the attention of the community, so props to them for that. read more

Stopped by the new New Jersey Avenue NW DC Z Burger. The chicken cheesesteak with "two" cheeses was excellent & generous. The onion rings were awesome there. Everything is fresh, and the staff is unusually friendly and helpful. I can also recommend their 75 flavors of milkshakes (I prefer strawberry). The store was spotless. Street parking was easy, but DC has parking meters not to be ignored. read more

Pretty sure I just got food poisoning from the turkey burger. At first I was told they didn't have it, then someone from the back gave a thumbs up so I was told never mind. Should've avoided ordering it once that happened... It tasted fine, but near the end of eating it I felt strangely. The whole car ride home I was on the verge of puking. When I made it there, an hour later, I threw it all up. My second complaint is that the onion rings were awful. Tasted like onions dipped in funnel cake batter, which is very strange. No crispness to them at all. Third complaint comes from my husband and kids, who said the tea was disgusting and the sodas were too flat and syrupy. Didn't try a burger so can't comment on that, though the friends I was with got burgers and said they were alright (they seemed neither disappointed nor blown away by their food). I did, however, get a milkshake - there was a huuuuuuge selection of flavors which was simultaneously really exciting and very overwhelming. I asked the cashier what the best flavors were as I wasn't sure which of the 50 (yes, that's about ten times more flavors than most places offer, woohoo!) I should go with. He inquired whether I preferred fruity or chocolate-y and I had no trouble with that decision (chocolate-y, of course). Seconds after that he proceeded to ring me up (he had made the decision for me - I was going to be trying the "mud pie" milkshake). I appreciated him taking the initiative to go beyond the call of duty in helping me pick (and his choice was good and I was fine with it). However, I didn't appreciate the attitude that was to follow. He was openly gloating to his fellow coworker about how many people he could ring up in the time that it took his coworker to ring up one (his coworker, unlike him, was being a bit more patient with customers). I get that it's a fast food environment, so wanting to get customers through the line efficiently is wonderful. But treating it like a straight up race and talking about customers like they're an inconvenience when they're standing right there, listening whether or not they want to? Not so much. Not a great value for money given the super fast-food-y interior and less than impressive customer service. I will say though, the mud pie milkshake is no doubt a winner especially if you're in the mood for some sugary goodness. Doubt I'd go back to sit in and eat, but I'd certainly be up for grabbing another milkshake to-go if I was craving one and in the area. read more
