We came down here to visit from Sacramento for a friends wedding in Fallbrook. Stayed at a beautiful AIRBNB near by and the couple who was hosting us recommended this location for breakfast or lunch. We decided on brunch lol. Came in and was created by stairs, which could be a problem if you have a wheel chair or walker or stroller. Didn't notice any elevators....but did notice when we got up the stairs that they actually have two entrances which is at the same level of another entrance. I didn't noticed any signage or anything stating that for anyone who may not be able to use stairs. This wasn't the case for me but could be for others. The host was very nice, only had about a ten minute wait if that. The waitress was very polite and helpful in deciding what to have. Husband has Hawaiian Tacos, I had chicken salad sandwich with a side salad, daughter had the Hawaiian sliders with sweet potato fries. We all really enjoyed our meals, everything tasted fresh and delicious. Seems like a perfect neighborhood gem/ spot to check out when traveling. Prices are reasonable, and it was fun watching them assemble sushi rolls right up front in the window. Hope to come back this way again to try something new. Also, we had a lot to take home. Portions are pretty large. Ate our left overs the following day and still tasted delicious. read more

For my 400th review and 100th of 2015, I thought I'd go out with a bang! So what to do when you're out in Bonsall with nothing but time on your hands and in need of a bite to eat? Go to Z Cafe! We found this place a couple years ago on suggestion from a friend. So glad they mentioned it to us. Now, whenever we are in the area, we hit them up. Z Cafe offers an extensive menu with various plates to please any palate. They offer standard bar food from burgers and fries to rice bowls and salads for lunch as well as steaks, prime rib and seafood for dinner. Breakfast items include pancakes and french toast to eggs benedict and omelets. They've also brought in sake and sushi to round out the experience. Service has been spot on each and every time we've visited and the food was delicious. I've enjoyed breakfasts and lunch here both eating in and to go. The rice bowls are a perfect match of salmon (or other), rice and veggies. Breakfasts I've enjoyed included pancakes and loco moco. All in all Z cafe is a great place to eat while in Fallbrook. Their menu may be sparse, but, man, can they cook some food here. From breakfast to lunch to dinner, I've never been disappointed by any of their fare. Their portions are generous, their preparation impeccable, and the ingredients they use are delicious with just enough innovation to make each dish interesting. I recently had the opportunity to try their blue cheese ribeye. Normally I don't like blue cheese crumbles on my steaks, but the crumbles never overwhelmed the flavor of the steak and the steak was the right state of medium rare. And the mashed potatoes which accompanied it were good, if a little plain. I would gladly have that dish again if it were to be presented as a special of the night. Visited for my first and last time. Ordered the french dip with onion rings. Both items were overcooked. Only ate a couple of the rings, and half the sandwich. I love the atmosphere just walking into Z Café... They have artist paintings on the wall that are available for purchase it's almost like it's a little home a foyer when you walk in with a little sitting area it's very clean they kind of have a woodsy feel like a cabin areas very high ceilings and they have an outside too and the people are just so very nice there you should go their food is really good as well and not that expensive either read more

We came here because we met up with our wedding coordinator at Grand Tradition and she recommended this wonderful cafe. You wouldn't expect a place like this to be here because Fallbrook is such a niche location, but it definitely stands out on its own with great food options. When you look at the menu, you think, oh it's just you're typical breakfast and brunch, but as you keep looking around, you see a bit of Hawaiian influenced items to eat, burgers and sandwiches from Cali fresh, BBQ, to south of the border. They even have sushi of all things, in a place about 1 hour away from the ocean? It's got to be fresh or else the reviews wouldn't be this top, but I wasn't going to take the risk =P We decided on the breakfast route and didn't look back. I had the pancakes since I haven't had one in awhile. My fiance had the breakfast burrito which was the size of my forearm. The pancakes were light and fluffy. I added bananas and walnuts to it with a little whip cream which is my cup of tea since I'm a banana walnut muffin type of man. It also came with eggs and sausage which took me to slumberville. Definitely a lot for the order, so I took 2 pancakes home with me. Her breakfast burrito was filled with sausage, eggs, house potatoes, and cheese. Very typical filler up burrito, made exceptionally well with their home made salsa. A go to if you aren't filling risky. This is only just the lunch/brunch menu as well. The burgers are crave worthy, I highly recommend! The stroganoff pasta was also really good but it was a bit on the oily side underneath! The sweet potato fries were really good, but the salt grains could be a little finer, a bit too grainy for my taste. The onion rings were also delicious. My wife and I came again to Z Cafe in Fallbrook. Again, we were not disappointed. Wife had the Hawaiian Mix Plate and I had the Bacon Swiss Burger. It was excellent and our server Grace B was very attentive. Big burgers too. Burger was $10 and Hawaiian Mix Plate was $12 (Early Bird Menu). I spent $27 at McDonalds for two meals and a McFlurry. At Z Cafe, the Burger was 4x the size and was SO MUCH BETTER than McD's. Our Bill came to $34.70 which is very reasonable. I strongly recommend this place. read more

Been here a few times since it seems to be my firends favorite spot to got out to eat for any meal breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a nice patio area for outdoor dinning. I've tired quite a few things off the menu and other than being slightly disappointed in the French fries everything else has been excellent. Services has been good as well. Breakfast and lunch are low cost and great quality. Service is always wonderful. I usually sit at the bar so I don't have to wait. There is usually a wait because it is a popular place. New to the Bonsall area and this place was highly suggested to us, as we went in to be seated there was a gentleman waiting not long after us two ladies came in at this point the hostess came back and proceeded two seat the two ladies that came after us I didn't say anything because it looked busy. When the host came back the gentleman was still waiting but did not say anything so I spoke up and said "hello" and the host responded "for how many" after I said 3 she turned to the gentleman and asked how many for him he said it would be 4 but he was waiting for the rest she said I can seat you now. Completely ignoring us didn't even say I'll be right back to help you ,just went and sat the other guy. Working in a restaurant myself I would never ignore someone the way she did. read more

I have always enjoyed Z Cafe having eaten there for several years. However, I was really disappointed with the food today. The sushi has always been fresh and well-prepared. However, today the rice was chewy and dry-not fresh and the hand rolls were very ordinary. Another person at the table had the same experience today and the last time they dined at Z. If Z has changed sushi chefs, they need to rethink that move. The service is always good but I was really surprised at the plunge in dining quality. read more

Sadly, Z Cafe is just not what it used to be for my husband and I. They seem to have downgraded the quality of beef they serve now as compared to before the Pandemic...And their prices are higher! I used to love their Stoganoff as well as steak dinners but the beef in both of these entrees is either tough or very fatty now. The a la cart dinner salad used to be great...I will try that again for my entree next time my friends want to go there as a group...I just don't trust my usual picks anymore. read more

Ok, we eat at Z frequently and have always had the best meals and service. But we didn't even think to look into their catering services until we were planning a Christmas party - and WOW!! Tiffany was incredibly helpful in getting our menu planned, organizing the timeline of serving, and was so very nice all the way through the process. She always answered any questions I had, was thorough in all her communications and then she and Chef Jay blew it out of the water on our event night!! As someone who worked in weddings + events for years, I had high expectations and they did not disappoint. I can't even begin with the quantity of the food (if you know Z, you know...) and every single menu item was DELICIOUS!! The two of them were our team on site for the event who handled set up and execution and they exceeded our expectations. Our guests loved everything and we totally enjoyed their service and interaction. It goes without saying, but the food was amazing!!! Some items were customized (so awesome they did that for us!) from tray passed rib eye bites with chimichurri sauce and grilled shrimp tostada bites plus short rib quesadilla triangles... to the taco buffet and a charcuterie table for guests to graze. OH!! And for dessert they served churros in a chocolate sauce that was the best!! I'll have to add pics as guests share them with us, but we were blown away for sure. By far the best place to eat in Fallbrook. This place serves Hawaiian, Japanese, and American food. I'm not too crazy about their teriyaki chicken because it was dry and the teriyaki sauce was salty.
