I don't eat porridge often, usually when really under the weather so I'm fortunate to not gone to get some in a while. I called my pickup order since I didn't see an online option. The store front is Ichi Ramen so it's confusing in case you get lost in the busy plaza. I ordered shrimp, fish and plain porridge (congee) along with beef chow fun. 4 dishes total. Total came out to under $60 and it was a heavy bag! The porridge has a nice thick consistency without being runny. It had flavor to not need seasoning and surprisingly large portions of seafood. The chow fun was decent but I've definitely tasted better. Kinda pricy at $18 though the beef slices were big. I appreciated it wasn't as oily as other chow fun I've had so easy to eat without feeling kinda gross after. Solid value, good food, and worth a rec for porridge. I like this place for congee and Chinese comfort food. This place stands out for congee because they serve it ripping hot (literally boiling in front of you on the table) in a clay pot. For some proteins, it is advisable to get an extra bowl to remove the protein as it will overcook in the crazy hot congee. The sliced beef congee comes out perfect so they must either add it to the hot congee rare or even raw so it ends up cooking perfectly. The friend Chinese donut was crispy and airy, slightly oily so fryer oil may have needed to be hotter and fry cook need to slow down and let oil temp recover. No frills. We only get two things: crispy noods and beef brisket rice rolls. The former isn't the best I've had but gets the job done: flavorful, lots of toppings, and nice "gravy" sauce. The salted pork meat patty Claypot rice was delicious, although the rice wasn't crispy as it should have been. Seemed as if they rushed when cooking the dish, so the rice didn't come out crispy. And it was straight Soy Sauce, nothing sweetened about the sauce. The hainan chicken rice is not a hainan chicken rice dish lol it's straight up yellow feather chicken on rice with ginger scallion sauce on the side. They literally said that to each other when putting in the order lol And we ordered pan fried noodle, took 35 minutes for it to come out to only be Soy Sauce chow mein. lol Everything was tolerable up until... And out of the blue, the server who was behind the counter, with a black mask also who walks like a gangster, hunched over, for some reason, she tosses our bill with the receipt tray at my table. Wow, this place is really busy and really popular. It's a smallish café style restaurant, but clearly very popular as there were lineups throughout the afternoon. Add your name to the sign up next to the door and be prepared to wait a little. I wish they had a Yelp sign up system. We tried their famous Chinese donuts and pan fried noodles. The Chinese donut was too doughy and not crispy enough for my liking but I enjoyed the pan fried noodles which we ordered vegetarian. We also ordered the congee, which my parents absolutely loved. Service was Asian efficient, though the food took a long time to arrive on the day we visited. The restaurant was extremely busy and seemed to also have many takeout orders, so the kitchen was fairly backed up . But the portions were reasonable, particularly the congee, which was gigantic and came out hot steamy and bubbling. We left satiated and satisfied with our meal. When food is normally cooked as other Cantonese restaurants, the service is very bad. The dining environment is also below average Cantonese restaurants. Except small table and very narrow spaces between tables, the noise level is very high. Also they charged tip for some of customers and asked tip again when paying credit card (see photo). At this point of time, I don't know how they decided who gets tip charged and who doesn't. My gut feeling is they may charge the tip if you are not Cantonese speakers. Or they thought you may not tip them. But in any case, customers should be informed and should not be asked for another 15 to 20% tip. The good thing for me is that I paid attention to the receipt and didn't give them another tip. But I am unhappy with this and will not comeback. I left at least 15% tips in all cases for all other restaurants(even the Poke store). I don't like this restaurant's practices of trying to get double tips. read more

It was nice to be able to just walk in and ask for some deli meats, and you could see the butcher cutting it as you waited. Their roast pork had crispy skin while the meat was tender. The BBQ pork was a hit or miss sometimes depending on the cut that day, but finding a decent deli place in the peninsula without going all the way up to SF is becoming harder and harder. read more

Came here on a Sunday evening with my family after they were craving Cantonese food. The fam had raved about this place before so I was excited to try the food. We went around 5 pm and the restaurant had a good amount of seating and was still pretty empty but we noticed it was getting more crowded as it approached 5:30. We ended up ordering quite a few dishes which were the rice rolls with beef brisket in clay pot, the fried rice noodles with beef and the eggplant and green bean stir fry. All the dishes were flavorful and, as we say in cantonese, the flavor of the wok flame was present. - Beef was very tender in the clay pot and as a fan of tendons, they did not skimp out on the selection of beef parts. - Rice noodles also had a good fry on them, although the beef could have been a tad bit more tender. - Eggplant and green bean combo was so good as those are 2 of my favorite veggies going to Chinese restaurants grow in up and the flavor of the XO sauce was present but not overly salty. You can ask for chilli sauce if you want it. *Fish Combo Rice Noodle Soup Love it--it's perfect for any occasion. The fish broth is hearty and warm, with the right amount of seasoning. They use mixian (thicker and smoother rice noodles) paired with fish cake, fish tofu, and fish fillet. I feel like they make the fish cake in-house which adds points. All the elements are cooked to perfection. It would be awesome if they had chili oil for an extra kick, perfect for people like me who enjoy spicy food. *Wonton Soup We also ordered a wonton soup.
