A magical night on a snowy mountain !!! We visited Zach's Cabin for a prevalentines dinner with our two adult kids. The entire experience was truly magical, starting and ending with a lovely ride under the stars to/from the cabin ( approx 10 min each way and they provide plenty of warm coverings which can be used as coats or blankets to keep you warm and let you admire the light-studded beauty of the mountain and the sky). The cabin itself is beautiful and small enough to feel fairly cozy with a roaring fire - great ambiance ( which to me is about half of the restaurant experience). The service is welcoming and warm - we were well cared for by attentive energetic staff with a great sense of humor. The menu is sufficiently varied to offer something special for everyone - we ordered soup, appetizers and 4 different dishes , all of which were excellent ( highly recommend the pork chops, especially if you are feeling very hungry - one of the tastiest ( and largest ) ones we've had anywhere; duck is also excellent; elk less unusual in flavor than we expected but also very well prepared and delicious). Great bar service with some delicious and cleverly garnished drinks and a comprehensive wine list. Home made ice cream for desert. What more could one ask for? While this is definitely not an inexpensive dinner, given the prices and experience we've had at some other highly rated restaurants in the Beaver Creek region we felt it was $ well spent for a memorable dinner experience! First of all you have to take a ride up the hill to get to this place dragged behind a snowcat spewing fumes from the diesel engine. Try to look at the stars on this ride (if you aren't sick from the fumes) because they are spectacular. The food was OK. I have had much better, especially for the price. I ordered a bottle of wine that I know retails for $30 in the store and paid $86! I know this is Beaver Creek and all but come on, 3X retail! I don't mind 2X, and expect it, but not 3 X. This is a classic place, but they really overprice the wine and give you no choices that are reasonable. Everyone does not have to be a wine connoisseur. We paid $157 for a wine that sells on the internet for $44.95. To me, that is really taking advantage of the people that endure the frozen sled ride. We went up on a Christmas Eve where the temperature was about 5 degrees, and I was wondering what part of "freezing" is supposed to be fun. I guess the memories of freezing will be fun, but the overpriced wine will definitely keep me from coming back. Zach's Cabin is one of the "must do's" for people staying in Beaver Creek. You will not be disappointed. Bundle up! You'll get on a "sleigh" pulled by a snow cat up the mountain. If you eat when normal people eat (7-8pm or so) that means you are in an open-air sleigh after dark in the winter. It's cold. That being said, the sleigh experience is either love it or hate it. Personally, I get enough mountain air to pass on the diesel-fumed ride up the mountain, but Zach's is that good...it's worth the trip. When you arrive, you start redefining "cabin". Out go the visions of Fear Street novels you read in elementary school and in come visions of happy diners feasting away their evenings. The food is excellent. The other on-mountain restaurant in Beaver Creek is more of a set menu, but at Zach's you are free to order at will. Apps, salads, soups, entrees, dessert...whatever you feel like. The wine list is incredible (and I take my wine lists very seriously). They mark up the right wines (cheap and popular) and treat the real wine drinkers to prices you would expect, but won't choke on and a variety that is impressive. Food is delicious and service will meet your expectations. Make reservations EARLY...this place is booked solid over Christmas, President's weekend, and much of March. Here's a clue...if you are traveling at the same time all of your friends are, expect reservations to be necessary. read more

What a perfect experience! You ride a beautiful massive sleigh all the way up the steep slopes and get to see more stars than I knew existed before arriving at the most picturesque cabin with the most delicious food. The cabin is at the top of one of the slopes so you either have to ski in ski out or take the sleigh ride after the lifts close. There is a huge coat room to store your skis and snow boots and change into their warm fuzzy slippers while eating. The elk tenderloin was to die for, the rack of lamb was massive and delectable, and the lobster was the best anyone had ever had. Dessert was very yummy too! We had smores pie and white chocolate praline bread pudding. The staff is very attentive and the atmosphere is perfect! Prepare yourself for a very large bill but an experience of a lifetime! read more

Not as good as everyone says and be sure to review your check before paying. My family and I were excited to go for Christmas dinner but were very disappointed overall and will not go back. To begin with, the first thing the waitress (Morgan) said was that they did not have elk, ribeye or the trout. With the menu not being extensive (which we knew), this was disappointing. After taking our order, Morgan (waitress) said she would bring us bread while we were waiting for our meal. Our meal came and each dish was good but we did have to ask for the bread. I guess we asked the wrong server (instead of her) because this seemed to upset Morgan as she was very short with us afterward. (Hey, this was her lapse - not ours and she did not come back to to check on us). The biggest issue was when the bill came. Morgan overcharged us for $30 for one of our meals (the filet on the menu was $42 but Morgan charged us $72). After pointing this out, she claimed we did a special order. Not true, each of us ordered an item from the menu with no special prep nor changes. After correcting the check, she brought it back with a 20% gratuity already added! When asked if that was standard practice, she said no and she would take it off -- if we wanted to. And to top it off, she added the gratuity to the overcharged price -- not the corrected price! Morgan was clearly trying to pocket additional money and has probably done this a few times with people who do not look at the check before paying. Bottom line, review the check when you get it and ask for a different server if you get Morgan! read more

This could be one of the best meals I have ever eaten. The sleigh ride up to the gorgeous, cozy cabin was fun and beautiful, and the guide was fun and informative. The lobster was simply divine, (melted in my mouth). The Foie Gras was the best presentation I have ever had! The service was 5 star for sure, and the ambience of the cabin was 5 star with amazing views. Will make sure we go to Zach's every trip to Vail, and I prefer it over Beano's cabin in everyway! We dined at Zach's Cabin about a month ago, but the memory is still very clear as it was a dual 75th birthday celebration. The snow cat ride to the cabin is a memory the 13 people in our party will all cherish, as well as the rustic interior of tge cabin. Unfortunately, the meal did not meet either our high expectations or even an ordinary Vail Valley experience - 3 trout schnitzels dry with uninspired seasoning, 2 braised short ribs dry, 2 butternut squash spaetzel for our vegans was pretty good, 3 beef tenderloins (our teens liked), 3 bone-in pork schnitzel dry and again uninspiring seasoning. Apple strudel and bread pudding heavy and not up to boxed Marie Callender standards. The ice cream and creme brulee were enjoyed. We also enjoyed our appetizers. I wrote an email to the restsurant Mgr, but never heard back. We'll write tge dinner if as a bad night for the chef or maybe it was his night out. But our expectations are much higher, especially at the Zach's cabin price point. read more

Do we recommend Zach's? Yes - it is an experience worth having and the entire staff was super friendly and willing to chat. Is the food up to the caliber (and prices) they purport? Probably not. We started with the fondue. It was a 5 star dish with a 6 star price tag. Our entrees, beef tenderloin and salmon, were lackluster at best. The salmon was most disappointing - very bland and not a well cut piece of fish. The tenderloin was ordered medium rare and came out almost well done (initially with no knife to cut it). Once we received the knife, we discovered it was overcooked. Our server took it back to the kitchen without complaint and a replacement piece of meat was soon returned. It was very rare, but we didn't dare try again. The flavor and texture were fine, just not spectacular. At our server's recommendation, we tried the "chocolate bread pudding with ice cream." I would not have called it chocolate bread pudding. It was a plain bread pudding with some chocolate chips and a bit of chocolate sauce on top. The ice cream was about the size you'd get from a melon ball. The snow cat up and sleigh ride back were quite lovely. We'd recommend going early so you can see the views of the mountain before dark on the way to the restaurant. Dress for the weather! read more

Really hate to give it one star. Been going to Zach's for over a decade and always had an amazing experience--dinner and lunches. Unfortunately, and quite simply, the Chef is failing this year. His new menu is trying too hard and it is way over-priced. If you're going to charge $74 for a piece of elk--which effectively becomes $100 with tax and gratuity, you need to deliver a spectacular dish. It was below subpar. The $62 ribeye was awful--worst in entire Vail valley and most expensive. They promoted the meat talking about how it was locally sourced and spectacular so those items should have been the highlights of the menu, but were both very poorly prepared. Burrata was ok, but not as fresh as you'd like for the price. Children's menu is ridiculous at $50 (again, $70 with tax/tip) and includes items that most kids under 14 are not going to eat. Another family left when they saw the kids menu (it used to be a tasty simple $25 buffet that all kids loved--if not, they could always order off of the regular menu). Clearly they don't want kids anymore. On the positive side, the bread was good (though limited amounts) and the cheesecake sampler was good. And you could tell the staff was embarrassed by the new over-priced menu and low-quality cooking. They started by warning us and almost apologizing before we ordered. We didn't understand why until we got our meal (and the check). The chef seems to want to make a name for himself and thinks he's an elite chef. Not to be rude, but he fails (candid feedback so they will make needed changes). This is a special mountain ski restaurant, but it does not need "coconut kiwi tropical soup". We will not return until they find a new chef and revert the menu/prices. You can see that I gave a positive review for Zach's a few years ago. So it is very disappointing to post this negative review and to see this happen to Zach's. read more

5 star all the way! What a spectacular experience we had! They took us up on a cat track where we got to see quite a few stars. They greeted us and took our coats. We literally felt like we were guests at the cabin. Our waiter Scotty was so great...truly went above and beyond! He recommended the perfect wine for our meal in the price range we asked. He made me feel special since it was my birthday we were celebrating. The foie grais was superb...I don't usually like it but it was prepared spectacularly! I also had the lamb chops which was fabulous...it was quite filling so I couldn't finish it but I'm sure it will be just as good when I reheat it in the oven. I can't wait to go up there again! Awesome "sleigh" ride up the mountain. It is a snow cat pulling a sleigh. I know a couple of other guests thought is was horse drawn, which you probably would think, however, once you make the trip you will realize a horse or horses could not pull a sleigh of people up the mountain! The ride back is kinda scary if you have motion anxiety like I do but I sat with my back to the bottom and it was okay! Now, for the food. Y-U-M-M-Y! My girls had the lobster (and it is pricey so I was hoping they would eat it all) and they Loved it! I had the beet salad and soup and it was also really good! The Cabin itself is so amazing. We were seated right next to the fireplace which is a great spot. This place is definitely worth trying when in Beaver Creek/Vail but I am not sure I would make it a habitual thing. When I arrived to make a reservation the pompous and condescending host refused to make reservations because I am not a Beaver Creek Club member; despite my access to the restaurant. I had the pleasure of dining at Zach's Cabin a couple months ago and enjoyed myself so much that I came back this March. The sleigh ride up to the restaurant was quite the experience. The whole way up, and back down, was filled with beautiful mountain views, and our sleigh guide was cheery and knowledgeable about the area. On the sleigh, they provided us with jackets so we could stay nice and warm, and it wasn't too long to be outside. They even took a couple beautiful pictures of my group with a scenic background, making it something I'll always remember! Even though the Colorado air was a little brisk, as we stepped into the restaurant we were greeted by a roaring fireplace and a warm and inviting ambiance. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu, friendly, and attentive; our waters were never empty, and our various courses were well timed out. The food was elegant and well seasoned American fine cuisine. The wine list is something to gawk at here, as it is extensive, and the sommelier really knows what he's doing. It's safe to say that I am looking forward to returning to Zach's Cabin next time I visit. read more

From the beautiful (but chilly) sleigh ride up to the restaurant to the cozy atmosphere to the service. One of our parties dishes didn't come out at the same time as the rest of the table and they comped his entire meal and brought out every dessert for the table on the house. We weren't even annoyed that the dish didn't come out! And one more note, we had one person who is vegan and the dish they served her was "then best vegan dish I've ever eaten". I find it pretentious when a restaurant thinks its dishes can be $50+ but we were here because my sister thought it'd be a special experience as she has never done the whole ski vacation before. So, fine. First - the sleigh ride was freezing. In a heavy snow storm, there was nothing to cover the open passenger area so people were basically sitting on wet benches, perhaps covered by one of the provided parkas. And being completely snowed on for over 10 minutes. You wouldn't ever ride an open convertible in the heavy snow...but here we were. I will say that the ladies running the sleigh - there and back - were very friendly and I appreciated them. Once there, the pluses: check-in was smooth and welcoming, and our appetizers were delicious. The bread was amazing. My duck was tasty, and the table was generally happy with their cocktails and wine. My sister requested our menus to be printed with a special message to which the restaurant was accommodating. As for the downsides: our server was grumpy and indifferent to us, which made for a negative overall dining tone. The only standout staff was an older gentleman who was a busser - he was polite and always inquired about our meal. Maybe the waiter could've taken a tip from him. And oh boy - those mains. Two out of 4 were extraordinarily dry - the lamb special and the pork tenderloin. When you're going to charge what you're charging for those dishes, they better be out of this world. I was very disappointed that the dishes came out so poorly and personally would've complained but my dining companions were too polite. All in all, I wouldn't recommend Zach's, nor would I return. And for Zach's I'd recommend they get their cooking up to snuff if they're going to charge such exorbitant prices, and find a solution for snowstorm rides in the sleigh. read more

We went up on a really cold night and were given some jackets that were all in a pile. There is as ice in the seats and the diesel smell was pretty bad a times. Zachs is overpriced and the service was subpar. Food was good for some in our party but missed the mark for others. Gnocchi was really good and kids had good steaks but they came out slightly above room temperature. Octopus was chalky and overcooked. Our server took our drink orders and then came back to take our food order before the drinks were even delivered. This left the party feeling rushed, especially when a big selling feature for the property is the atmosphere. read more

We went there as a family of 4 the other night. The food was good but it seemed very "touristy" to us. I realize this time of year there are mostly tourists here but this felt different. Kind of similar to getting a table at Cinderella's castle at Disney World. There were lots of kids watching movies on their iPads, propped up on the tables which we felt was a little inappropriate for it being called a high end restaurant. And lots of kids on their phones. Our service was just okay. The servers seemed very fast to want to take our order and didn't have the attentiveness you would hope for a restaurant serving $50 plus entrees. Overall it was an average experience. We had several other amazing dinners in the Vail area while we have been here. I wouldn't recommend this to friends/family when they come here. read more

Sorry but I have to completely disagree with previous reviewers, but having had a residence here for over 20 years I have eaten at all of these mountain cabin restaurants at the Beav and Zach's may actually be the best but that is not saying much. Yes it is a nice ride up mountain on a snow cat sleigh. Yes views are nice. However, I have found the food to be so-so and somewhat institutional. The room is large, loud, and over heated/stuffy. Also service can be spotty at best as it is often filled with over taxed waiters. Often the place is full of families with multiple children. Do I need to even mention that the place is expensive. Also consider the altitude, it is probably over 9000 feet so you can/will effect you particularly after a large meal. If you are looking for a romantic mountain experience I would suggest Mirabel's at the entrance to Beaver Creak. read more

You are definitely paying for the awesome transport there and the remoteness. We had the filet and the strip steak... Both done perfectly and very tender. I'm hoping the food wasn't good simply because I was in a large party and it's normally much better. I had to double cut pork chop and it was a bit dry. The artichoke and crab appetizer was average. One of my friends got a steak cooked well done and it was supposed to be medium rare. My husband got a steak that had barely even been cooked, it still looked purple. What a memorable dining experience! We met at the Ritz at 5:45 for a 6pm departure (make sure you give yourself some time to get to the Ritz. it is not very well marked and the street lights can be dim). The snow-cat drawn sleigh could seat 25 passengers. Each seat had a blanket to make the 10 minute ride rather comfortable. It started snowing heavily on our way up! Upon entering, we hung up our coats and slipped into furry Crocs. Menu items were very diverse and reasonable for the location, I liked that it was not pre-fixe. It took me a looong time to order, since everything looked so good. I decided on the signature elk loin, and my BF had the chicken. Both items were super good, the elk loin did not taste game-y; it was tender and basically tested like steak! We also enjoyed a nice white wine-- menu list was very reasonable. We did not have any appetizers or dessert. Our two entrees, bottle of wine, and sleigh ride charge, with tax & tip was $149. It was well worth it; we had a great time! read more

Our meal was one of the best experiences we have ever had. The ride up was undoubtedly a little cold but beautiful and not unbearable given the jackets provided. Upon arrival, the slippers- WOW! What a great, fun idea- were a nice greeting. We were seated at one of the best tables- next to the fireplace. The food selections were great. For appetizer- foie gras was wonderful- as was the sashimi trio. Both were excellent, and Kenny's (the Som) recommendation of the traditional wine paring- OMG! For dinner, our family tasted a little of everything. The halibut received the highest (unanimously) rating at our table, followed by the perfectly cooked scallops, and the Elk. All were wonderful. The wine list here is amazing and so is Kenny. He helped us choose the perfect wine to go w/ our dinner after discussing our preferred tastes- a Barolo. If you know and love truly good wine, you will appreciate the selection. If you want one of the best dining experiences you are likely to ever have- a truly memorable experience- go to Zach's. Our family will never forget it. I wish we could make it back next year but the darn resort is already sold out! Our best hope is now New Year's 2018! read more

This restaurant and sleigh ride experience is a tourist trap! The sleigh ride is nothing special, altho our guide was very friendly and helpful. The bigger disappointment was the dining experience and food. Our group of 8 all agreed that the food was quite bland and very over-priced. For the price, we expected creativity and wonderful flavors. We experienced neither. Our waiter raved about each entree, but the food did not come close to living up our expectations. I would not recommend this restauant to anyone. There are many terrific options in the Vail area, that are reasonably priced and serve fantastic food. Save your money and have a great meal elsewhere. Zach's Cabin was an amazing experience! My entire family went as a large group, and we not only had delicious food but also extraordinary service. Later that night, I realized that I had left my brand new iPhone in the sleigh on our way back down the mountain. We called the phone, and a Zach's Cabin employee answered who had found it while cleaning the sleigh. She was super friendly and gave the phone to her manager, who HAND DELIVERED it back to where we were staying (The Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek). I can't express my appreciation enough for doing such a nice thing for me at a moment of crisis when I thought my phone was gone. I read about this restaurant online and told my boyfriend we had to check it out. We always have a knack for unintentionally planning things on very cold and snowy nights, but that just made the experience that much greater. The sleigh ride up was freezing, but they provide warm jackets to keep you comfortable and have friendly guides to give you some information and history about the resort, slopes, and restaurant. Entering the restaurant, the staff was super friendly and welcoming you the second your foot touches the ground from the sleigh ride; and you completely forget about the cold because the restaurant is warmed up perfectly to shake off the chill. They have a very nice area to hang up your wet and cold clothes and get you to your table very quickly. Our waiter (I forget his name) was very kind and accommodating. I order the warm sangria, which was very good, and our waters were never seen empty. We shared the corn bisque, which my only regret was sharing it (so delicious!). I ordered the salmon and my boyfriend got the trout. I was very pleased with my meal, but my boyfriend didn't like his option as much. We got a dessert to go since we were full but knew we would want some later. We ordered the lemon custard (we thought with how cold outside it would stay cold) but forgot the drive back to our place would be warm and melt the custard, oops! We still ate it and the huckleberry sauce on it was my favorite! All in all it was a great experience and we definitely are going to go back in the future. We even recommended it to our families, so maybe we will all be making a trip together. read more
