We've been by Zanata several times & it's always been too packed. We we're in Rockwall @ 2:00 & hubby & I were STARVING! We decided to give Zanata a try....we lucked out! No Wait! The lunch crowd was thinning out. First, I really like the atmosphere & aesthetics of Zanata. The wood burning pizza oven and open kitchen surround the beautiful bar & gives Zanata a warm welcoming feel. It's Classy Casual. Our server, Chase, was very quick to come over & answer all the questions we had before ordering. The Black Currant Tea was so good & refreshing!.....Couldn't get enough of it! For starters, we ordered the Bruschetta Plate....Mozzarella, Gorgonzola, Roasted Onions & Tomatoes, Fresh Arugula, Prosciutto, Salami & Red Pepper Remoulade Sauce on Bruschetta Bread.....delicious! Hubby ordered the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich.....Fried Green Tomato, Avacado, Fresh Arugula, Prosciutto & Herb Mascapone, served with chips & Sweet / Hot Pickles. Yum! I ordered the Porchetta Pulled Pork Sandwich....Braised Pork, Fennel Peach Slaw with Horseradish Pickles....served with chips & Sweet/Hot pickles. Really Really Good! All in All, we enjoyed everything we ordered. I understand that the Blue Crab Dip is The Appetizer To Order.....Next Time! I'll order one of the Brick Oven Pizza's next time, as well! We have been back to Zanata twice since my original review and I felt it necessary to update with nothing but great things. As soon as you walk in the door it just feels good. The smells that fill the restaurant from the two wood burning ovens is intoxicating. It's quickly becoming a favorite in the DFW area. The wait on the weekends can be long but grabbing a cocktail at the bar can help pass the time. There is not place to wait because the small bar fills up quickly. My first thought when I heard about Zanata was 'Rockwall?' However, I do not think Zanata could make it in Dallas. The feel of restaurant on the town square, the work ethic of the staff consistently providing great service and the warm casual clientele could not all be found in Dallas to create what the owners have created here in Rockwall. The bruschetta is simple and sweet. A single slice of fresh mozzarella and a roasted roma tomato with a balsamic reduction was perfect. The blue crab dip is their most popular appetizer and once you try you will know why. Their Standard pizza is the only one I have ordered because I just don't see the point in weighing down a pizza with all kinds of produce. Still a solid fresh tasting pizza that won't disappoint. Desserts are not their strong point. Banana pudding came in a non-function and difficult jar. Consisted of more meringue than banana pudding. That one dish was over shadowed by everything else. Service is always top notch. They will be slammed and your water glass is never empty. This evenings server was no different than the others, friendly and attentive. They offer about ten reds and ten white wines and five craft beers on tap. They keep everything simple and straightforward from the decor, to the food and to the bar. We had a group of six drive from Dallas to Rockwall and I can't wait for the next trip back. Zanatas is a great place We started with a few appetizers, crab dip, shrimp/mushroom, salad. We ordered three kind of pizzas and a rib eye. For dessert we ordered bananas foster, coconut cream pis and chocolate cake. Unbelievable food. I have never eaten where all courses have been outstanding. The wins and drinks just added to the whole night. Do yourself a favor and make the trip if you are in Dallas and if you live in the area just go. The prices are unbelievable and the portions are perfect. Go, go, go. read more

Wow, we waited about an hour for this place and it was 100% worth it. Luckily downtown Rockwall had some great live music next door to keep us entertained. We had the mussels, pork chop and lobster ravioli. All of it was so good we are literally still talking about it months later. Great service and atmosphere as well! read more

Just moved to the area and this place made my list of 1 entry of where to eat out locally. Came here last night with my mom and her grand-kids. Thank you Mac for the warm welcome and farewell. The food! You couldn't go wrong. Avocado stuffed crab - I'm put off by warm avocado but mom ordered the appetizer. It got the to the table and we left nothing, not even the white sauce smeared on the plate. Whatever they dressed the salad leaves I could eat all day with the crab and yes I don't mind the avocado. The way it was done the avocado was still very firm and fresh not the warm mushiness I had in my head. Ribeye, there was nothing left on mom's plate. Everyone had some. Whatever herb oil the veg and steak was doused in should be bottled and sold. My niece "best potatoes ever" My nephew who only eats chicken or seafood, he's never really taken to read meat, kept asking for more of gamma's steak. Pizza - We had to order a 2nd pepperoni pizza because the adults ate half the kids pizza. And we wanted to order a 3rd specialty pizza to go but my mom and her entourage decided to come back this weekend. Shrimp - the kids wanted shrimp the kitchen accommodated us, as it's not on the menu. Thank you! They loved, loved the shrimp. Asked if they could get a bucket, wrong restaurant. Awww. Sunday Roast Chicken - very good, I've never had risotto before so I have to say my first time I'm a fan. Everything was a balance of flavors, light elements vs more filling. Flourless chocolate cake with vanilla gelato and berries, it was a delicious massacre. Btw, the kids forgot their leftover pizza, my cousin grabbed a slice for breakfast this morning as he walked out the door to work. 8 minutes later he walked back in to get the rest of the pizza, cold. The pizza is that good. One of my favorite pizzas I've ever had. So ... I guess you'll see us this Sunday with maybe even more entourage ... This was our first time to eat here and we will definitely be back. We started off with the crab stuffed avocados- and I could have just kept eating those throughout the meal. For dinner, my wife had the Mediterranean ribeye and I had the sea bass. This was the best sea bass I've had so far in my life. The sauce was a COMPLIMENT, still letting the fish be the star. For dessert, we tried the gorgeous flaming bananas foster. Again, best I've ever had! I also judge a place on not when mistakes are made, but how they handle said mistakes. My wife has a dairy allergy, and requested no cheese. The first time her meal came out, it was sprinkled in cheese- an honest garnishing mistake by expo. They admitted to the mistake, got a new meal prepared for her, and also sent the manager out to make sure the next one was perfect. The manager gave us our bill and had comped my wife's meal completely. They handled this beautifully, and made us feel appreciated for spending our money there. Humans are humans and we all make mistakes. It's how you own up to them and handle them that sets you apart. This place is AWESOME. read more

Easily one of the top options east of the lake. It is a small location that gets loud, and has long waits, but it is worth it. Whether you are celebrating or wanting something more intentional this place is great. Even though they have a limited menu that focuses on Pizza and a select few entrees, I am confident that most people can find a suitable option. So I went back to here last night after not having a very good experience. Last time we were there out entrée we had ordered, stuffed pork chop, came out rare and they took it back. Not to redo it but cut further in to it and re grill it. Came out tough and still partly raw. Didn't offer to remove it from the ticket or have the manager speak to us. So we tried again. Had the blue crab dip which was really good. Our daughter loved it as well. Wish they had more bread with it we had some left. Zanata's salad was good. Portion was enough for 4 people easily. Had the Hazelnut Sea Bass over veggies. Let me say it made my pallet say wow. Was served over a spiced purée and topped with a cherry sauce. Yummy! My kids and husband had a pizza. Ordered the Hill Country. We were told by a friend of this pizza. Was not on the menu and full of meats. Tasty as well. Overall good decision to give another try. Ordered on gut instinct alone and was not disappointed! Carb dip was crazy good! Lobster ravioli was nice and flavorful. Vegetables were well balanced, tasty, and risotto was rich / satisfying. Zanata was a great date night dinner location just a few blocks from our new home in Rockwall. I've walked by several times but couldn't get a feel for the place until we walked in for dinner. It's a rustic atmosphere but on the upside of rustic. Full bar in the back. I had the Salmon dinner and my wife had a gluten free pizza. The service was fantastic and the desert was worth the visit alone. The Banana Foster! I'm still dreaming about it. They lit the rum in fire and gave you a little show! We look forward to coming back to explore the menu! read more

This place is my absolute favorite restaurant. The tomato basil soup is delicious, the meatballs are indescribably good and the steak diane is the best I've yet to find. You just can't beat the flavor and service at Zanata. Tip: They are usually busy so the earlier you arrive the less likely you are to wait. Although I'd happily wait an hour plus every time just to have dinner at Zanata. read more

I came here for lunch with a coworker while in the area for work and was not disappointed. The selection is vast, with soups, salads, sandwiches, pizzas, and entrees. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice, and service was prompt. The restaurant is located downtown in a vibrant area next to the courthouse. My coworker got a half sandwich (grilled ham and cheese) with soup and I got the caprese salad with bacon. The server was nice and the food came out quickly. Everything was delicious! My salad was quite large and was on top of a large piece of ciabatta bread topped with melted cheese, huge bacon crumbles, and lots of cherry tomato halves. My coworkers half sandwich was huge and loaded with meat! I very much enjoyed this place and would definitely eat here again if ever back in the area. read more

Have gone twice and gotten the steak both times. The marinade on the vegetables is a balsamic base which is fine but when it was dumped on top of a steak and I can smell it before it hits the table not good. The waitress never came back ta ask of it was ok guessing she knew it wasn't. One of two of the best restaurants in Rockwall. Been dining here for years, always consistent. Don't worry about the wait, it's worth it and you can have drinks and sit comfortably in or outside. The owner Kevin, is a friendly, hands on owner, very engaged with his customers and what they want. Full bar with talented bartenders and good variety of local micro brews or international beers. I like the wine menu, as they offer a good, well balanced and researched variety of quality vintage's that are relatively inexpensive. The salads are quality meals by themselves..recommend the Z House with Salmon. Starters; Love the blue crab dip, mussels or lobster Mac and cheese. The menu is diverse, but not overwhelming. The Brick Oven Pizza(local quality ingredients) is fantastic and palatable to Adults or kids. Daily specials constantly changing for variety from Branzino to Elk Tenderloins. Regular menu changes seasonally as well, but recommend the Osso Bucco, stuffed pork chop and Smoked Chicken Raviolis(damn good)! read more

This place was average in my opinion. The environment was too loud to hear my partner and we got to the point of shouting to each other! Also it was getting busy and they decided to use a table that was unavailable for social distancing to seat guests as it got busy. What's the point of having a table unavailable then using it? The food wasn't anything special, delicious but could have been better. The chicken alfredo was a miss unfortunately. The chicken was dry and under seasoned, the noodles were overcooked the sauce was the best part of the dish. We also ordered a pizza and it was average nothing to overhype about. The interior is gorgeous! That's what's keeping the rating a 3. The staff was very friendly as well clueless when asked about the size of the pizza. Overall, a decent experience. read more

The food was good and service excellent. But... The food is not always as described. I ordered the Steak Diane, pairing it with one of their Merlot wines. The meal was good and the filet mignon was rare per my request, but it was basically steak and potatoes, and not Steak Diane. Where were the hints of mustard and Worchestershire? Where were the chanterelle mushrooms (not traditional in this dish, but advertised, and I was looking forward to them)? Also, the presentation left a bit to be desired: a vegetable was not included and it would have added some lively color to an otherwise drab plate. All that said, the actual food was good, for what it actually was. The tiramisu for desert was fine and not over-proportioned as so many deserts are. But an espresso was not an option to pair it with. The bill came to a modest $65.10 and I left a 23% tip. read more

Great atmosphere with plenty of room to sit and visit; no distractions from the sparse décor. The wood-fired oven is visible from most tables, so you can watch the food prep - which includes all fresh ingredients. Excellent waiter on our last trip. Pros: the 3-Piggy Pizza includes slices of ham that are so big they appear to have been cut right off the pig carcass. (Awesome for us carnivores.) The Pecan Praline Cheesecake has 3 layers, with whole pecans in the crust, and is huge (plenty to share). Easily the best cheesecake I have ever eaten! Cons: the goat-cheese on the Chicken Pesto Sandwich is so pungent that the sandwich is inedible. It smells much worse than a goat; it should be called 'Homeless Person Foot Cheese.' read more
