They were extremely busy when I picked up my order this time, so depending on the day and time, you may have to wait a bit. The food itself is good but the annoyance is for pickup. Pro tip, if you order for pickup and they tell you it's still being prepared, check the pickup counter for your name because it might already been ready before you arrive. I arrived 15 minutes after ordering. I gave my name to the lead and she said they're still prepping my order. I waited another 20 minutes to find out my food was already ready sitting on the pickup counter before I arrived! The lead didn't bother checking the pickup section! She didn't apologize for the mistake either. She spotted my name in passing. The food here is good but this experience makes it hard for me to trust what they'll say to me next time. I hate to have to write this review because the food is great and the staff is super friendly. Last Thursday my coworkers and I went there for lunch, as its our lunch break so are time is limited. We've been here before and we've had plenty of time to order our food (kabobs which says it takes 15 min). Last Thursday there must have been some big orders online or over the phone. My receipt says that my order was placed at 11:05 around 11:45 my coworker was tired of waiting and went to the counter, came back and said he canceled his order as his order still wasn't ready, we went up after and asked about our order and was told it was almost ready and we finally got our order at around 11:50. We had to ask for it to go as our lunch break was basically over. Had to rush back to work and didn't really get to enjoy our food as there was no time left. In the end, we should have asked for a refund also as my order was close to 30 by itself. I just really wish they told us there was going to be a delay in prepping the food. I'm sure they knew there was a back up and if they told us it was take closer to 30 min let alone the 45 it actually took. We would have been ok, lets go somewhere else, but at least they let us know. Not waste our time waiting there and not getting to enjoy the food. A 45 minute wait for the food is a little ridiculous! So glad Zankou is here in the South Bay! I first tried Zankou's in Montebello. Who would think that chicken skewers can be soooo good especially with their addicting garlic sauce. Please note that although the business names are the same, these are two different restaurants that started from the same original family but distinctively unique. I love both locations and glad to have one close by. (Note: However, the Montebello location does offer french fries.) For just 6 bucks more, I ordered one extra chicken skewer for my plate. My plate came with a fresh cucumber condiment. I appreciated that at the counter they asked if I wanted the roasted tomato which I did not. The hummus and of course, the garlic sauce was delicious. The Hubs ordered the Tri-Tip Shawrma Wrap which he enjoyed. If you are looking for a healthy and delicious lunch, check Zankou's out. Parking in the lot. We had two 1/4 Chickens w/ Cucumber Salad, Basmati Rice, Pita Bread & Garlic Sauce. The rotisserie chicken is very good with a very good spice rub. The cucumber salad was especially good it tasted very fresh and was refreshing. The 2 little peppers are good but surprisingly hot. I loved them but be aware if you are heat adverse. Just pass them over to me! The garlic sauce was good and went well with the meal but it was a weird consistence that made it hard to use. The 1/4 chicken meal was quit filling. Definitely a good value for the price :) This location has only been opened a few months so its no surprise that looks brand new but they do keep it, along with the parking lot nice and clean. Then I would go to or order delivery from the West L.A. location which was much closer to home. This South Bay location is very convenient since I go to Torrance often and it's on the way to the freeway going home. I ordered the combo kebab plate with the shish kebab and lule kebab plus the hummus and tabbouleh. I also got a baklava. The food was just as fabulous and delicious as at the other locations. I'm not the type to leave nasty reviews out of spite but since this is a fairly new establishment and one that replaced the old Boston Market, I thought I'd leave some helpful feedback. I ordered the 1/4 chicken meal and could have easily given it a 4.5 out of 5 stars were it not for me biting into an underdone part.Food safety is serious business and even with all the fat phobia out there, a potential trip to the hospital from some undercooked chicken isn't worth it. I ordered the chicken kabob plate, which comes with marinated and roasted chicken kabobs over a bed of rice with salad and hummus. I used to live in DTLA and frequented the Zankou there so I was super excited for this one to open here in the South Bay! Finally got a chance to visit and got the tarna & shawarma combo plate with tabbouleh, salad and tzatziki. Lemon tahini. As I type that, my mouth is watering. It's a sauce I would drizzle on almost everything, maybe even ice cream (don't judge). My husband and I had been waiting for this spot to finally open, so we were excited to check it out. We came in around 3:30 and it was pretty busy. The service was friendly, and the person taking our order was helpful, asking if we had any questions or wanted any substitutions. The restaurant was also very clean inside, which is always a plus and makes sense since they're newly opened. It had a nice, fresh feel overall.The menu is pretty extensive, with options like bowls, salads, and wraps. My husband and I both decided on the Lule Kabob plate. The plate comes with three sides. We chose rice, cucumber salad, and hummus, and it also comes with pita bread and a sauce of your choice. We went with the garlic sauce, which was really tasty. The veggies were fresh, and the basmati rice was soft and fluffy. My absolute favorite was the hummus. It was rich and creamy, and the olive oil on top made it even better. I would honestly go back just for a side of that. My only complaint, but an important factor, was the meat on the kabob. It was pretty dry. From my experience, lule kabob is usually soft and tender, but this one seemed a bit overcooked, and the dryness was noticeable right away. Overall it was good, but not my favorite. Whenever on the West Side (including when I worked in Century City) or even off the freeway in Long Beach, many a time I frequented or ordered in from the Sepulveda/Santa Monica Blvd. location and it was always, well, just like today! The consistent awesomeness of this place is amazing. I didn't make it in time for being one of the first 100 customers on Opening Day (which gave the opportunity to be a part of a drawing for "Free Zankou for a Year" which is about the best thing I have ever heard of) but I sure made a point to pick up 4 Chicken Tarna Sandwiches, Tzatziki and Mutabal (think Baba Ganouj...or smoky eggplant excellence) to take home on my way home from work! And it was just as perfect as the first time I had it. The Chicken Tarna is Zankou's version of the Chicken Shawerma (or Chicken Gyro) and it is made up of wonderfully spiced and juicy chicken pieces layered in pita with tomatoes, lettuce and their amazing garlic sauce that, I think, started it ALL! I have had the Beef Shawerma many times as well. In fact, I have consistently ordered the combo plate of both, but you know, like today, if I had to choose just one...it's the Chicken Tarna all the way! This new location is in a shared plaza with plenty of parking spots. The menu seems to vary slightly depending on if you are ordering in person or online but the overall offerings are the same. We've tried the rotisserie chicken, zankou salad with shawerma, tri-tip shawerma plate and shish kabob plate. All are solid options depending on what you're feeling like. The meat falls off the rotisserie chicken and you have options to select white or dark meat only. The shish kabobs take longer to make but the meat is always flavorful, tender and juicy. While walking across the parking lot, I casually asked another patron--who had just ordered a plate--how the food was. His response was, "So-so, and expensive." That gave me pause, but we went in anyway. We were greeted warmly, which was a good start. We ordered two Build-a-Bowls, which include one protein, two sides, and a bed of jasmine rice. Our choices were tri-tip shawarma, cucumber salad, hummus, and two garlic sauces. I also paid extra for additional meat on one bowl. When we opened the bowls at home, I couldn't believe what I paid--$38 for lunch. The base bowl is $9.99, then you add $3.99-$6.99 depending on the protein, plus extra charges for additional meat. For $16 per bowl, the portions were extremely disappointing. The tri-tip shawarma was shredded and nearly dry, saved only by the garlic sauce (which had the consistency of softened coconut oil). The hummus and cucumber salad were the only items that stood out positively. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it. I first ate at a Zankou chicken location, some 24 years ago, at their original Hollywood location. I became an instant fan. However, I moved to the South Bay a while ago, and I've had to get my rotisserie chicken fixed elsewhere. I would always compare these new businesses to Zankou. Only one or two came close. So, one day on my drive on Hawthorne Boulevard to the 405 freeway, I was delighted to see that Zankou chicken was opening up a location in the South Bay. So, why did I give one of my favorite rotisserie chicken places a two star rating? Well, it has been 36 minutes since I've ordered my food. And, no food. This place is supposed to be a fast casual restaurant. There is nothing FAST about this place. I can see all the way to the back kitchen. The people back there are working as if they are descendants from sloths. You could see the front kitchen and they make the back kitchen workers look like speed demons. One guy is awkwardly trying to remove chickens from the rotisserie and cut them up. The front of house staff are just standing around while lines intermittently form at the cash register. After 15 minutes, I inquired where the food was. We ordered a falafel wrap a cup of soup and a quarter chicken white plate. I went to the counter and was told it would be five more minutes. Obviously, the food was not ready in 5. I went back 10 minutes later and spoke to a young lady who seemed clueless. I shared with her that I don't understand why it's taking so long because this is literally just assembling pre-cooked items. She corrected me and said no everything is cooked to order and it would take 15-20 more minutes. I don't think she understands the difference between house made and cooked to order. They did not put on a raw chicken to start cooking when I asked for a quarter chicken plate. They weren't pickling the beets to order. The soup was obviously sitting in a soup kettle keeping warm. They weren't cooking lentils to order. The only thing that I could see being made to order were the falafel balls. I asked for the premade soup so my wife can at least get started eating. She went and got the cup of soup and filled it up partially and gave it to us. I went back and they topped it off, but they shouldn't have served it partially full. After a period of time, the rest of the food came, but they also put in another cup of soup. That cup of soup was filled up to the top. However, they didn't include a spoon, and there are no spoons at the self service station. They did apologize for the long wait and offered to get me a large side, but what do I need with a gallon of hummus when my dish already comes with a side and two pita? As far as ambience goes, the place is brand spanking new. Everything looks new. We did have a lot of open tables that were dirty. They really do need to have some of these employees who are just standing around making rounds in the dining area and wiping down tables. Now, onto the food. The chicken breast was plump and juicy. I would've liked the skin to be slightly browner and crispier like I remember. The garlic toum sauce is as delicious as I remember. I substituted the hummus for tzatziki sauce and the tzatziki sauce was cold and refreshing. I wish I had a couple of extra spicy peppers. It would have been nice if they had a self service area where you can grab more. My wife enjoyed her hummus wrap. The soup tasted great and was thick but not smooth because I think they partially blend in the lentils. Bottom line, would I go back? I really hope the extremely slow service is just due to the fact that maybe they only opened up in the past few weeks to a month. So, I probably will go back. Just this past week, Zankou Chicken spot opened up in Lawndale and I am already quite the fan! I chose to get their Combo Plate ($19.99). with a chicken skewer, a shish skewer and sides of basmati rice, hummus, and tzatziki. I also got a side of muttabal ($5.29). The skewers were amazing! The garlic sauce is so good you'd think they hid drugs inside, and i litteraly ate so much i'm gonna be shitting out garlic sauce! Got the Chicken Kabob Wrap ($10.99) and made it a meal (add $3.29). Every thing tasted good. The pita chips were crispy. The salad came with plenty of diced tomatoes. The Tahini dressing was flavorful. But the biggest winner was the garlic sauce. It's what made the wrap very tasty. The service was very friendly and helpful. The dining area was a good size.
