We were invited to the sneak peek soft opening and we got the right one it opened! There were a lot of staff there training other staff but they really had it fine tuned and it was very impressive. Everyone was super friendly and helpful especially Jared and Ashton. We both ordered the half chicken plate. It was a limited menu so we were treated to an entrée, an appetizer and a drink. The chicken was amazing. It was so moist inside and delicious. I chose mine with the rice and cucumber salad and my husband had hummus and rice. We also got the falafel appetizer and pita and muttabal (which was a bit too smoky for our taste) also got the tahini, garlic and harissa sauce which were all delicious. So was the hummus and falafel! The cucumber mint lemonade was delicious! Overall the ambience was fantastic, super clean and super friendly staff. I've had Zankou Chicken at other locations so was super excited to hear about one opening close to home. Got an opportunity to try a complimentary meal before they officially opened! Had my eyes on this place for a while during the build out as it's the best location in the area. I got the tri tip wrap and it was good but not great. IMO, far too much tahini sauce as it got very messy very quickly. The wrap with tax and a small tip was $13.24 - certainly affordable. I love Zankou and have been going to the Hollywood location for ages. I went to the one in Lawndale and it was horrible I ordered the kabob combo. The beef tasted old. The rice was barely edible. I used to go to Zankou in Hollywood back in 2005 and was thrilled to see them open a satellite in the South Bay recently. They are a go to takeout for roast chicken, which becomes an exceptional dish when I add their incredibly good garlic sauce to it. It's about time they opened! We've been to multiple locations & we have never been disappointed EXCEPT for the fact that there was never one in the South Bay!! I am so happy this location finally opened. We ordered online and my order was waiting for me. One of the guys at the counter goes. "Are you picking up an order? You must be Jennifer!!" He was super friendly and really nice. His customer service was amazing. He asked if I wanted more garlic sauce. He gave me a big handful, plus harissa and a few of the beige color one. The bags of food were bulky. He offered to change the bags out for a bigger one. I declined. As I gathered my food to leave, he offered to open the door for me, but I didn't need him to. The other workers were friendly too and was so eager to assist. I am so impressed!! The restaurant is really new & clean. It is bright and with lots of tables. Reminds me of a Chik Fila set up. The casual set up is inviting and great for anyone to eat there. Can't wait to dine in! We ordered 4 plates, (2) tri tip plate, 1 chicken shawarma plate and 1 tri-tip & chicken shawarma combo plate. The chicken is really good, the beef is not overdone & tender. The rice was buttery and fluffy! Cucumber salad is really refreshing with the right amount of vinaigrette that it made in. The pickled radish is also really good. I ordered one lule/ground beef kabob and it was by far one of the best lula/lule kabob I have had in a long time. It was full of flavor, nice amount of onions and spices. It was not dry either. The mutabbal had a great smoked flavor. I prefer that over hummus anyday. Ate that with my tri-tip, rice and pita with their bomb garlic sauce. Zankou is not Zankou unless you enjoy your meal with their garlic sauce. It is an absolute MUST! Can't wait to go back. It was really flavorful and did not disappoint. It's hard to compare to CAVA due to the lack of topping options yet the flavor is on par. I was so excited when Zankou Chicken opened their new Torrance location a couple months ago. Being halal from the start, it quickly became my go-to spot -- finally a convenient location close to home. That all came to an end this week. The chicken came out completely dry with none of that crispy texture I'd grown to love. Something was clearly off, so I called to ask what happened. That's when I found out they had just switched from halal to non-halal meat - with zero notice to customers. Two months in and they're already making a change this big without so much as a sign on the door or a heads-up on social media. A lot of people chose this location specifically because it was halal. I placed a takeout order and the cashier was very friendly and repeated everything back to me, which I appreciated. After waiting about 20 minutes, we picked up our order and headed home. Once we got there, we realized a wrap was missing. I drove back within about 15 minutes with the receipt and explained the situation. Unfortunately, instead of prioritizing the missing item, they entered it as a new order, which meant I had to wait another 25 minutes behind other customers. I understand mistakes happen, but I was surprised there wasn't a quicker resolution for something that was missed in the original order. New neighborhood favorite! Back in the day we used to patronize Zankou in the valley and were pleasantly surprised to see them open down in South Bay. Today marks our second visit and we have some favorites to recommend: Shish Kebab, Zankou Chicken, Muttabal, Hummus, rice, pitas and pita chips. Also sampled the soup today and it was super warm and earthy. Service is always on point when we have visited - don't remember the names from the first visit but Collin and Ibrahim were super helpful today! The restaurant itself is always clean and neat. My husband was born and raised in LA and when I married him I moved to LA with him and he is the one who introduced me to their delicious food. We used to frequent the Sunset location and also the Burbank location. 6 years ago we moved to Torrance and I have been saying it forever that I wanted them to open one in the area and they finally did! We have gone to this location so many times. I could eat Zankou daily if I could. I always pre-order and pick up. They're always quick, efficient and friendly! Here's our usual order. Chicken Tarna Plate Tri-Tip Shawerma Plate Tarna & Shawerma Combo Plate You usually select sauces and we always get garlic sauce (must have), Harrisa and tahini sauce. You also get 3 selections of side options so these are our favorites. Basmati rice Hummus Mutabbal Cucumber salad Tabbouleh salad Tahini salad Diced tomatoes and pickled turnips They offer various sides and we always get 5 side orders of falafel. I was not a huge fan of falafel before but I really LOVE Zankou's falafel. It is a must for me and my husband! For dessert they have baklava which was my first time to try theirs and it is really good but the piece was so small for $1.99. I was expecting a bigger slice. LOL! I love desserts so was sad to see the size which was almost a 1.5x1.5 inch piece or less. Do not get me wrong it was delicious!!! A few wishes: I do hope they will offer a family sized version of their mediterranean plates. I am not sure if you can add extra meat on the plates but would love that option. One last thing is they have the BEST garlic sauce so we ALWAYS order a big container of it! If you never tried Zankou chicken I highly recommend them and please go for the mediterranean plates. Their rotisserie is good but I think the different mediterranean plates are where it's at! I am sure all their other items are amazing but that is my family go to always when we eat at Zankou! We thank you to the Zankou family for opening up in the South Bay now can we get another location in Torrance so I can order for lunch when I am at work. HAHAH! Hum, not what I expected. I used to live in Hollywood near the other location by WB Studios, we used to order this for our company at least once a month. I was excited when I saw they are coming to Torrance, but not happy with my meal. I ordered chicken salad, chicken was dry and salad seemed light (a lot more mixed salad could fit in bowl). I did order side of tabbouleh, which pushed the price to 24 bucks. Tabbouleh, was good and fresh, but not cleanly chopped with a sharp knife, making is a little un-even and not up to the standards of the other locations. Salad loose in the container, with no dressing? I recall the salad always was compact in the container, with chopped chicken, and large dressing of some kind. You have some completion on the same street, with Polla Inka better value. Also, came in at 11 - all the staff was eating, and time wait was long. The counter person was very nice, and the manager, but nobody looked like they were working. 6-7 employees were eating at 11AM read more
