Really bad customer service. I bought a shirt and noticed that a button is missing when I was going to wear it for the first time. I took the shirt to the store to ask for an extra button or an exchange of the shirt. They told me that there's nothing they could do and that I should just buy a new one................... who does that....... I was able to get the shirt exchanged at a DIFFERENT Zara store!! This is my first and last time shopping at Zara due to extremely poor customer service. My wife gifted me 3 Zara items and was told she could always return or exchange the items if they didn't fit me. Turned out none of the 3 fit...so this afternoon we headed back to get different sizes. We were told right away there was nothing they could do since it was past 30 days, and that we had to keep the merchandise. This conflicted with what she was told before. Switching out for a different size was not possible because the items were now out of season. We could not even receive store credit at the sales price (which was 15% of the original cost). I was just as irritated with the process as I was with the result. Even if nothing can be done, great customer service shows empathy and tries to find an agreeable solution...but the store manager seemed more interested in getting to the next person in line. read more

Oh Zara... you make it so hard to love you sometimes. I have a love-hate relationship with this retailer. I love their clothes because they make unique pieces or follow the trends from straight off the runway. In fact, a lot of my favorite staples have come from this ever popular Spanish retailer. BUT... The service here is abysmal. For some reason the employees have a holier than thou attitude and with a severe case of stick in the a** (excuse my crassness). Fortunately, while I haven't been subjected to being treated as a secondhand citizen nonetheless my friend has and it soured our shopping experience at this particular store. The prices are overpriced considering a lot of the clothes are made of sub-par materials. Zara was very accessible and affordable over in Europe (or at least that was the case when I studied abroad there). Unfortunately, the service for Zara in the States is just horrible and I've been to several locations in different cities. The employees never greet the customer, they give attitude if you ask for help, and are down right rude when you are trying clothes on in the fitting room. Avoid this location if you can. Chicago has many, many stores that have great customer service and wonderful clothing and this one misses the mark completely. **Zara, you need to re-train your employees. The attitude, the dirty looks, and the snide comments about the customer that come from the employees will never be acceptable. read more

I got to know this Spanish chick named Zara back in college. You see, my best friend Amy spent a semester studying abroad in Alicante, Spain, and she brought back a suitcase bursting with fresh fashions from her travels. Most of the clothes were from either Mango or Zara. She knew I really admired her new collection but what she didn't know was that when she left town I'd often borrow a flowy dress here, a nipped-in Bolero jacket there, and a pair of long-inseam tight black pants a little too often. Good thing now I can afford my own clothes... and my dangerous shopping habit! Though Zara isn't as fashion-forward as it once was (Spain gets to keep the best fashions, the US gets what's left over), they still do a great job on polished basics. For example, I was looking for a khaki skirt that wasn't matronly and I found it-- a wide, high waistband and a really cute figure-flattering fit. The fabric is substantial and has ever-the-slightest gleam to it. $60 for a skirt is a bit on the high end for Zara, but it's such a great basic that I'll probably return for the black version. The store is well-organized though I definitely prefer the set-up of the lower level (more space in between racks). read more

Disappointed. Pretty much an overpriced H&M. I've been to other Zaras before so I knew what I was getting into, and maybe I am just getting cranky in my old age, but I was very underwhelmed with what I saw. Lots of $70 sparkly mini skirts and pricey oversized sweaters. Speaking of "sized"-ness, the sizes run fairly small. I'd say the lady's large is about a US 10. And though the clothes may be well made, it doesn't much matter if they are so unattractive as to not be worth buying in the first place. read more

WOW! I have never seen such an unorganized men's department in terms of staffing. Long lines of customers wanting to spend their money at the cash wrap. However, only one cashier? When asked why there's only one cashier, I was told, "we are short staffed." I asked why the Department Manager wasn't helping out with the long line? The reply, "she's busy." Well, an exchange of words and the Department/Store Manager was called. I was expecting a polished, well spoken individual who "cared enough to listen and engage in eye contact." Instead, a very immature person presented herself who appeared from, what looked like, the men's dressing room? When I expressed my concern for the long line, one cashier and so on, I was told, "there are no other people trained on the cash register." OMG! The second floor had four people behind the cash wrap with maybe, four people in line wanting to check out. When this "manager (?)" told me others were not trained on cash wrap, I had to think, "hmmm, there's a really bigger issue here." Like, HR, Regional or District Manager engagement in terms of training, customer service training, and all those things which tie in to the "customer experience." I'll say this. I've been a customer of ZARA from the UK to the US. ZARA's Michigan Ave store has fallen by the way side with their staff. This store needs an overhaul of staff members. Who ever hires for this location needs some heavy training. If I were the District or Regional Manager on a "store visit," I would have fired two if not three of those employees that I spoke with. I understand the "customer isn't always right," however, "being treated and respected as a customer OR at the very least, "hear an apology for the long lines," would have been acceptable. How I was treated was unacceptable!! HR needs to step up and shake things up in the field. What's funny is this. After leaving this store location, I went to Walgreens when I heard, " I see three." An SOS to other store team members "we have a line and need help at the cash wrap." HMMMMM. As an aside, on two separate occasions, I found several men's summer tops to have the side stitch missing. Horrible service. I literally stood and watched 13 sales people, stock people, and checkers ignore everyone while I and three other people stood in line waiting to check out. There were two woman counting out the till next to the only one person doing any actual work, and then, after waiting 10 minutes patiently in line, had the audacity to have attitude to the two women behind me and tell them "there's another cashier downstairs". I wish there was an option to give zero stars because thats what I'd give this place. I used to be a loyal shopper, but after the way I was treated last time I was in the Michigan Ave store, I'll never shop there again. Their salesman, Remmington, told me I should "come back when I wanted to spend more money" because he couldn't figure out how to properly use his register and make an exchange. I won't bore you with details of the story, but I'm pretty sure there's nothing I could've done in the store that warranted that response. We called customer service and they basically said tough luck. Its a bummer because I really did like Zara-Yes, their stuff is overpriced for the quality, but I was still willing to buy it. After the treatment of their people in store and then their customer service, I'll never go back. Zara, imho, is a too-pricey H&M. But I do occasionally like to get something there. But this store? I HATE coming here and will not be returning anytime soon. I've been in four times and *every* time the salespeople have been much more interested in socializing with each other than providing customer service. One time I stood waiting to buy something while the person at the front counter cleaned the counter off completely, chatted with another salesperson, all the while not looking at me at all. Then after a five minutes of waiting she nodded at me like she was the Queen and I her subject. Um, thanks but no thanks--there are plenty of other places (and much higher quality places for an equivalent price) that I can shop. The only person in the whole shop who is at all polite and customer service oriented is the security guard, who smiled and told me to have a nice day as I was leaving. I'm far from being a very self conscious person, but going through Zara's Men's department made me feel like I was 500 lbs or something like that. I'm not waif thin and as I like to say, I have a highland body. So, being in Zara made me feel like I needed a $500 a day coke habit to fit into their clothes. Even items that were marked large were very small and the few items marked XL seemed like they were for someone that is more used to wearing a Medium. The clothes were pretty cool, but that was the only real redeeming thing as the staff couldn't be bothered at all. Some of the staff were bringing more attitude than some of the most hipster places I've been. They were bringing a much holier than thou attitude. My friend and I were killing time while his wife was buying baby clothes for their upcoming baby. This wouldn't have been our call if we were just hangin, but keeping a 8 month pregnant woman happy makes lives better. I highly doubt that I'll be coming back here anytime soon. read more

WARNING!! Don't get scammed by Zara! Zara's has "40% off" holiday sales, but what they actually do is tape cheap stickers to DOUBLE the original price, making the "sale" price more expensive than the original! See my picture posts to verify. I bought two knit dresses from Zara's on Dec 27th and each one was 40% off for $49.99. The store was so messy and rude that I didn't realize the scam until I was home. At home, I saw that TWO stickers had been placed over the original price. The original price (printed in ink on the tag) was $49.95 but it was partially hidden by a $79.99 sticker. Then, on top of the $79.99 sticker was the "40% discount" sticker of $49.99 THE SALE PRICE WAS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE ORIGINAL. As a business student at Columbia, I know this is the oldest trick in the book but 1. it ruined the integrity of the entire company 2. it was so sloppily done--the new $79.99 marked up stickers didn't even cover the original price so it was BLATANTLY lying 3. just because it was done in the past doesn't make it right!!! The $79.99 sticker was so sloppily slapped on, it didn't even cover the original price. They're scamming thousands of people on Michigan Avenue right after Christmas... where's the holiday spirit in that? read more

It's almost as if the employees are trained to be bitchy and rude. Um, hello. You can barely afford the clothes in this overpriced shop! The least you can do is learn how to smile! Plus, ringing up can take up to 45 min with such long lines. The employees do not even know where the clothes from the mannequins are in the store or refuse to check for back stock saying what they have is what is on the floor. Probably the worst retail experience I have ever had. These stores open up with such clout, style and trendy motives that they forget a really important part of retail: structuring their service and customer relations. Twenty people in line at the cash wrap to check out on the Men's floor. One man on one register, working at a pace of 10 minutes per customer. The rest of the spiky-haired employees with suits too small, shuffling around in and out from behind the cash wrap take no notice of a giant backup of ready-to-check out customers. It's ok, as long as they look good, right? Girlfriend bought a coat, it's a nice coat. Needed to take the tags off, I guess corporate never gave the new store 1 pair of scissors. We were sent to two floors to get scissors. No scissors, but that really wasn't the point, we didn't even get through half our sentence asking for the scissors before getting the cold shoulder, "no, go away" Of course H&M is busy, the employees aren't there to help you unlike other middle-of-the-line stores: Express, Jcrew and Banana, but Zara get over yourself and show some respect. cheers. read more

Like a U.S. version of an unscaled trendier Gap, Zara is freaking amazing! I bid farewell to bland H&M's poorly constructed clothes, kissed off forever 21 forever ago, and finally say goodbye to Gap! The Best: - up to the minute Trendy wear - smoother basic pieces - a fab range of tight denim to constructed blazers - amazing selection of cheap shoes - glittery tees - great rotations of trends to classics The Less: -lacking accessories - sizing runs more friendly on a thinner woman's frame but its seriously worth the dig. - customer service will ignore you. This is the absolute worst Zara I have ever been too. Don't even waste your time coming to this hell hole. The managers and associates are extremely rude and unprofessional. They never greet the customers or even think to acknowledge them while on the sales floor. I went into this Zara today and it was in complete shambles. Clothes thrown all over the floor and tables, the fitting rooms were disgusting, mannequins half naked... I mean this is a flagship store - it should not look like this! There were barely associates to help out on the floor. And let's not forget that I spent 15 minutes waiting in line to try on 2 pair of jeans then another 35 minutes in line trying to make an exchange. The manager and sales associate would not take back my exchange because there was a small stain on the item. I hadn't even worn the item. I purchased it at Woodfield Mall and the manager rudely told me to go back to Woodfield and return the item and stormed off. This store is a complete shit show. I will be contacting Customer Service and District management about my experience here. Never going back to this location again, I'd rather order online or shop at the Woodfield location. read more

I love Zara. They have reasonably priced items that are well made for the price point. The quality of Zara far exceeds that of their competitors. Unfortunately their clothes run very small and this location seems to always lack inventory on larger sizes. In terms of customer service, I think it's adequate considering this is a discount retailer in an extremely busy location in DT Chicago. I don't know what people expect? It isn't Barney's...If you want better service I would recommend going on a wk day night M-Th. The staff is actually able to say hello, help with sizes, and be more attentive. Used to love Zara when I discovered it in Spain, mid-90's. Also went to the one in San Francisco and liked it a lot. Have visited some around other countries in Europe, too. Apparently, the Chicago stores are a whole different story. The style has become a little bland compared to my previous experiences and, as others have noticed, the customer service is poor at this store. Went to purchase an item in December that was marked as "on sale" by an orange sticker. When I got to the counter, it rang up differently, and I said it had been marked as on sale. Another salesperson (I guess a manager?) looked at it and ripped off the orange sticker and said, no its not on sale. She said someone must have put the sticker on there and it wasn't supposed to be on sale. I ended up paying full price because I need the item (not much money, but hey, i like to save when I can). My friend, who was with me, said I should be grateful that she didn't try to pin the apparently switched stickers on me, but the whole experience still left a bad taste in my mouth. So beware purchasing items that have been marked with stickers - you evidently can't trust that their items are correctly marked, the sales staff apparently has no qualms about ripping stickers off and charging you a different price (due to absolute faith in their computer systems) or at worst, maybe even blame you for replacing stickers, even if you didn't. Sizing and cuts are more European influenced, aka slimmer/smaller/narrower so don't expect to wear your usual size. Then again, what is a usual size in the histrionic arena of women's clothing sizes? read more

Never shop here. Last August I bought a leather jacket for $325....$325!! One would think that a jacket that cost that much would hold up for AT LEAST 2-3 years. Try 2 months. The leather above the pockets as well as the cotton inside the pockets started to rip within this time. I took the jacket into the store with the receipt and before I could even finish telling the scrawny little fashion boy behind the counter what had happened he scoffed and began to tell me that there was nothing that could be done because you can only return within 1 month of the purchase. This makes sense for some items but for a leather jacket that cost $325!!!...I would think differently. After speaking with the little boy I spoke with the "manager" who already knew what was going on because she was standing right next to him the whole time. And what did she have to say to me? The exact same thing. It took me explaining how this is very frustrating for a few minutes before she decided to give me the customer service email. Not a phone number...an email address. She said they always respond quickly. Well 2 weeks after writing that email I still had nothing in my inbox. So I looked up a phone number online. Now about a month after calling them and leaving a voicemail...nothing. I really do like zaras clothing but after this I will never go back. They obviously don't have quality products and they could care less when their customers have a problem with their overpriced crap. read more

The work wear and dressy clothes were on par with Banana's prices where as the day/street clothes were quite a bit less. Just so you know, I love Zara in general. If you check out my clothes' labels, a lot of them will prove it. BUT, I'm just reviewing this particular branch. If you want the general idea, read the next two paragraphs. For an example, read the rest. The problem: their staff. They are some of the unfriendliest folk who have to deal with customers. They tend to stride around, noses up. One of them actually walked between me and the clothes rack I was looking at, bumping into me. I thought I was being sensitive, but looked at my boyfriend's expression and his eyes were wide, so I know I didn't imagine it. The cashiers act bored and holier-than-thou. THE PEOPLE IN THE DRESSING ROOMS ARE FANTASTIC. Very friendly, helpful, patient women there. Not sure how there's such a gap in staffing success. I guess they figure if you made it to the cashiers, they got yo' cash already. I don't know. But I usually dread going to this branch and try to go to the one at 20 E Randolph. It's smaller but I'm more comfortable. If you have the time, let me tell you a story. There once was a holiday party and the night before I realize I have nothing occasion-appriopriate to wear. Also, nearly any party I attend has a minimum of one of my boyfriend's ex-girlfriends. It's just one of those things. And they're not particularly frumpy. So. I'd like to not look like a bad decision to his friends (or the ex-girlfriends). The next day - yes, the day of the event - I go to Zara. I mean, I'm pressed for time and already know I like their clothes. I find something to wear that makes me look damn fine, cash in, cash out. I get home, already running late, change quickly and find a little surprise. This little surprise came in the form of the plastic security alarm, securely fixed right in the seam of the waist. There's no way I can wear it with a giant gray security alarm right in the middle of the dress. Right that moment, my brain is going #fml #wtf #omg #why. I start trying to break it off until I remember that someone told me they put ink in those things. I go to the party dressed in a skirt and blazer, looking like a teenager at a job interview, with an already sour mood. I go back to Zara and expect an apology, empathy, an "oh no!" at my story, and get bored hipster eyes and slow-motion undoing-of-the-mistake. I tell them I don't want the dress anymore, and can I just have my money back. It was their mistake, AND I'd left the store after setting off the alarm, apparently. I'm pretty easygoing, and would have been thrilled with a little emotion from them but ended up more irked. The End. read more

Keith Haring!!! are you f**king kidding me, I've been wanting a Keith Haring clothing line since I watched him on Sesame Street as a wee boy. Zara definitely has their designs on the right track and the price is right. Not too expensive but not cheap either. I've noticed that they use European manufacturers instead of Asian manufacturers. For political reasons, I like to support that , not that I don't like asian countries or something (i luv em), but because it helps the world economy achieve more diversification, which is a good thing. The service is ok for the men's section at least when I went there. And since I keep it real.... they have some hot chicks there too so thats a huge plus. This place gets a BIG FAT F+ for customer service. The + goes to the man who I'd guess is a manager. These associates aren't even "trendy rude," they're just plain ignorant. The only attention I received on my first visit when they opened, besides a hello and smile from the assumed manager, was an answer to a question I asked. And the second, third and fourth time I visited I had the same experience. These associates are so busy talking to one another about paychecks, lunch breaks, and what they're buying after their shift, that I wish you luck if you need help. Not once was i even asked if i needed something in the fitting room. And there were 3 people working it! The last two times I have gone in to make a return, I've waited for a manager to come to the register to sign the receipt. Neither one of them even acknowledged me. One or two lazy employees is one thing...but when there are at least 15 working at one time, and not 1 of them is offering any kind of service, I'd say Zara needs to do some serious re-hiring. My rating is direct towards the service, particularly on the men's floor. I shop here on a normal basis and everytime I come here I do not feel welcomed. None of the sale associates are friendly they are all stuck up divas! I sometimes feel like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman being discriminated upon. If you want service be sure to look hot or have some nice apparel on. Why do sale associates feel the need to act this way? Ugh. Nextime I go an associate will feel my rage if they act up! The new Zara got a great location and they did a decent job with the layout aside from the fact that almost every single mirror they have is awkwardly placed. They either stuck it on a wall in a section where you'll be blocking the flow of traffic or tucked it between two display racks so that you can't really step back far enough to get a good look at yourself. Frustrating. That aside, the clothes are just ok. Cheap sweaters with great color options made me happy, but the shape was just all wrong. The shape kinda looked like what happens if you machine wash a sweater you aren't really supposed to machine wash and then didn't lay out out flat to dry. Fail. They had several different options for military type coats which were cool but I didn't care for their denim or shoe selection. As others have said, it's really just a slightly more upscale H&M. read more

I love Zara but I wasn't feeling this location. I ALWAYS step out of Zara with something but I was disappointed today.... First of all, Zara has great style and their clothes last. I bought many things here and they have all held up very nicely. So no complaints about the brand...but the store.... They have a lot of clothes, but the size of the store is a bit on the small side. I'm not sure if its actually smaller than the Old Orchard location but it feels that way. Something about the layout of the store was off. It felt just a bit cramped, especially on the second floor where they display the TRF stuff and the children's clothes. They had a good amount of stuff, the trends were right on, and there were lots and lots of coats in preparation for the winter. Anyways, I'll be here often since I have class about 3 blocks away. Hopefully, I'll walk away with some things next time I'm here. One more thing...They should really consider changing the lights or something in the dressing rooms. The way the light shines so directly down on me doesn't exactly look flattering... which may be a reason I didn't buy anything. okok... One last thing... Their men's section is pretty pathetic! I have no complaints about their designs or products. My grief is with store and its shoddy customer service...which by the way does not exist. Its just so sad that people get treated like shit here. they just need to take a lesson or two from their neighboring stores. not once or twice, but on multiple occasions, I was treated so poorly. When I read the reviews here, I realize that its not just me who has experienced rude behavior from staff in the store. during my latest visit, I took a shirt that I ordered online, tried it on, felt the size was not right, so decided to exchange or return at the store. When I take it to the store, the super rude arrogant guy on the counter (main floor), glances at the shirt and tells me, "this has been worn". I tried to tell him that i literally took it out of the box, tried it on, and then brought it to the store (all same day). My only mistake was that I removed the tags before trying the shirt, but I didt throw them away. the guy just decided that I was lying to him, and asked me to talk to the men's section manager. I found a lady in the men's store who told me " yes, i am one of the managers here". now, this lady looked at the shirt and after a great deal of analysis and assessment, came back to with her expert findings (note the sarcasm)...she tells me - "your shirt has been worn and washed, because our tags dont like that. the tags (washing instructions tags) looks washed"...now I was just amazed how these people can make such statements...work in a world class store, and make a fool of their customers. So, she was telling me that a shirt that I just opened from its packaging is actually worn and washed a few times??? I requested to speak to a supervisor, but no help. I asked for her name, she said she is not obliged to give her name. And in all these conversations, its the tone of voice, and the negative attitude that bothers me. Overall, its not a big deal. its just saddens me, and frustrates me to see how a company can set up lavish stores, and cater to global clientèle when they have absolutely ZERO TRAINING to be nice to people who actually give business to the company. I'm a big fan of Zara's clothes. Being moderately slim (5'9", 145ish in my case) can make finding clothes that do not fit like fumigation tents, especially from department stores where the best deals tend to be had, rather difficult. I'm willing to pay a modest premium for clothes that fit well and look fashionable. Zara gives me that option. Oddly enough, I only have two clothing items from Zara, but I love them both dearly. I recently bought a full-length black coat that fits as if it were tailor-made and also drapes perfectly when left open. It's made well and is reasonably priced given the superlative fit. Unfortunately, items rarely go on sale, and when they do, the smaller sizes go first. One positive and simultaneously negative aspect of Zara is that their inventory turnover is incredibly brisk. If you walk into the store and see something you really like, buy it, because it might not be there next week. This quick product movement means there's always something new to see, but again is a system that does not pander to the hesitant. As for the store itself, I actually quite like the Michigan location. According to the manager, this is the flagship store, larger than all other US locations. The Randolph as well as Westfield Skokie locations are also very nice and all are worth visiting because they can carry vastly different clothes (the coat I bought, for instance, was not and is, as of 11-12-11, still not carried in the Michigan store). Service is barely a tertiary concern for me as I want to be left the hell alone unless I ask for assistance, so I have little to add there. Everything in the men's section is organized and presented well enough, although it does seem the second floor women's section is a bit cramped. If you are relatively slim and like stores such as H&M, Topshop or even Banana Republic, I definitely recommend Zara. read more
