We got it medium level (versus strong) with jaggerty (a type of sugar versus regular sugar). The coffee chef pours the coffee into small tin cups and then pours hot milk on top and tops it with frothy milk foam. My husband and I ordered a Masala Dosa which came with a white chutney and red chutney and sambar (soup); and a Mega Tiffin which had a more tightly rolled Masala Dosa (with potatoes, greens, onions inside, sambar, the 2 chutneys, 1 idyly (white bun), 2 vadais (donut shaped savory fritter), pongol (creamy grain - lentil and rice combo). I also had a mango lassi. The dosas were crisp and fresh and the filling was not too spicy for us. We really liked the dosas and the variety of other dishes that are also served. The coffee was very good. We had considered getting the Mylapore dosa, but the cashier mentioned it is spicy so we opted for the Masala one instead. Staff were friendly and helpful as we told them it was our first time there. We parked in the parking lot. Our server said often the parking lot is full and people park nearby and walk in. The restaurant was fairly full at that time with only a few tables available. Ambiance was casual and nice with high ceilings, booths or tables. We sat in a booth. Table was pretty and lots of natural light. You go in and get a table number. You take the menu and table card to the cashier and order. Then, you get your coffee and/order mango lassi (or other drink) and take it to your numbered table. A server brings your food out to your table.

What a wonderful discovery! Let me start by describing the ambiance and decor: One side of the restaurant has books lining the wall (and you can actually take any of them down and read while you eat/wait!). The other wall is a blackboard which has beautiful chalk murals which emphasize the natural, homes style food that you get here. The food really was unlike any Indian or Pakistani restaurant i have been too. It was Not At All heavy with spices, cooked from canned ingredients, or felt heavy or oily. We had the shami kabab plate which were mouthwatering good. The chicken kabab rolls were really authentic, perfectly spiced and filled with really succulent chicken pieces and the most amazing chutnies. The lentil daal which came with the kababs was almost the highlight for me despite the kababs being so good. We also ordered the punjabi burger and my friend love it (I will order it next time). I shared his masala fries and liked them a lot but was craving a bit more masala on them. Before we left we went and ordered two more paratha rolls and their veggie samosa burger to go. We had to wait a bit as the restaurant had really filled up. But we were glad we waited and got to enjoy Zareen's food again at dinner (btw, have the veggie samosa burger spicy and thank me later for the explosion of taste) There is no wait staff and you order at the front and then they bring the food out. The service was wonderfully friendly. The girl taking the order on Square helped recommend us the kababs and the burger. The owner personally came and asked for our feedback and even gave us a complimentary dessert to try. I had visited Zareen's for some authentic Pakistani/North Indian cuisine and I must say, I was blown away by the quality of the food. Despite being a take-out only spot, they have seating outside the restaurant, which is always crowded with a long line of customers waiting to order. But don't let that deter you - the food is well worth the wait! I tried the Aloo Samosa Burger, which was a large smashed samosa with pickled cucumber, caramelized onions, and peeled iceberg lettuce in a toasted bun. It was seriously good and well-priced at $8.49. My friend had the Paneer Tikka Masala Thali, which was also delicious. The masala chai was a standout as well. Zareen's touts their Michelin rating for their main restaurant, and it's clear that the reputation is well-deserved. The food is authentic, flavorful, and the service is quick despite the crowds. The self-service setup is convenient, and there's ample seating outside the restaurant. Overall, I highly recommend Zareen's for anyone looking for great Pakistani/North Indian food in the Palo Alto area. Just be prepared to wait in line, but trust me, it's worth it. read more

We came here after a visit to the Computer History Museum. I was expecting a sit-down place, but they have been takeout only since COVID. We ordered from a kiosk. We shared the Lamb Gosht Thali and the Palak Methi Gosht Thali with naan on the side. One of the best parts of the meal was the daal. It's one of my favorites, and was great. Both lambs dishes were really good. The sauce from the Gosht was great to eat the naan with. The salad was good but nothing special. Now, the not so good things. First of all the naan came in a foil bag, making it mushy from the steam. I prefer my naan crispy. Moreover the naan was a little on the doughy side. Portion size was small, I could have eaten a samosa or two for dessert. The whole experience seemed a little impersonal. Whenever I'm craving Indian food, I always go to Zareen's - it's the best! It's a casual spot where you order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. I prefer this location to the Palo Alto one, it's much less crowded. It's small, but they have plenty of outdoor tables which is perfect when the weather is nice. Now, on what to order - I always order the Chicken Tikka Masala or Chicken Boti Sizzler meal with a large naan. The chicken is always cooked perfectly, super juicy and never dry. The basmati rice is delicious and flavorful. I love that the meal comes with a side of delicious lentil dal. The meal is a really large portion, especially with a full piece of naan, so I always have leftovers for lunch the next day. Also recently, they seem to have changed the firni recipe maybe? It used to be a small serving in half a coconut, sort of solid like a jello, but now it's larger and much more pudding-like. I tried it again and it's so good! read more

I recently had an experience that truly showcased exceptional customer service, and I wanted to share it here. I accidentally ordered from the wrong location without realizing it. When I arrived for pickup, the staff was incredibly friendly and immediately informed me of my mistake. Despite the mix-up, they were understanding and accommodating. The team lead or manager (I regret not catching his name) stepped in to assist me right away. He took care of placing a new order for me and made sure it was expedited so I wouldn't have to wait too long. While I waited, he even offered me a free cup of tea, which was a thoughtful and much-appreciated gesture. Thanks to their quick and considerate response, what could have been a frustrating situation turned into a positive experience. First time here and we loved the place. It was crowded when we got there but the staff was super courteous and efficient. We had the boti chicken meal and paneer tikka Masala with butter Naan and basmati rice. The chicken was succulent and flavorful. The naans were melt in your mouth soft and garnished with mint - a nice touch! Paneer tikka Masala was very fresh but just okay in taste. In spite of the crowd, the lady at the counter remembered to let us know that there was complimentary hot tea. The staff gave us mango Lassi on the house when we told them it was our first time at Zareen's. 5 stars for customer service! Don't miss the phirni here. Finally! I have heard so much about this place! A lot of my friends know the owner and are always raving about the food! I convinced my workplace to order for dinner. It was the first time that Pakistani food was being introduced to the company (ever!) I was sort of scared because when you order a bunch to-go sometimes they don't take that extra special care to make it look and taste nicer. EVERYONE loved the food! People could taste the different between pakistani spices and indian spices- which was exactly what i wanted! Awesome food, can't wait to order again from them! I can confidently say that Zareen's has the best Indian food in the U.S. Having tried numerous Indian restaurants across the country, the food here consistently stands out as rich, flavorful, and simply incredible. I keep coming back for more! The service is top-notch, with staff always welcoming and attentive. This place is the bomb when it comes down to eating good Indian/Pakistan food. Have literally tried almost everything on the menu and its all sumptuous. Be it samosas, Punjabi dal, boti kebab. My personal fav are their shami kebab and sheermal. The place is tiny and very limited seating so I always prefer a to-go. The staff is very courteous and smiling. The only miss is that the food taste is not consistent - I have had a few times when the salt was more or the portion size was smaller than what it usually is on a Friday evening peak rush hours etc. nonetheless that wont stop me from coming back again and again. read more

This is a good Pakistani,Indian restaurant. The food was excellent and there is a wide variety of dishes. However, the wait can be very lengthy around lunch and dinner time. The policy at Zareen's is: You may only be seated at a table AFTER you order. Despite this explicit rule, a family of three attempted to snatch a table right from under our noses, even though they had not ordered (we had at this point). This exhibits the selfish characteristics of human nature. But the food and service is great. Honestly I don't know why I included this story. Just a tad flustered at the moment. read more

Awesome food! Both samosa and punjabi burger were EXCELLENT. Fries had the most awesome seasoning and lentil soup was perfect to top it off! This is not your ordinary indian restaurant..when you're done eating, you dont feel too heavy and bloated. Everything was fresh, healthy, light yet really tasty! Also Zareen is super sweet. This is my first time trying out Zareen's at the Mountain View location. The line was fairly long and there was not enough seating. So my husband and I decided to do takeouts. Food is prepared and presented very well but the portion is very small When we got home and saw that each piece of samosa was only a bite size, we were shocked. My first time having food here. Everything was delicious. The two best dishes are Gola Kabab and Chapli Kabab. Gola kabab is a ball of finely minced meat with traditional Indian spices infused in it and cooked. Chapli Kabab is a meat patty with Indian spices and cooked like a burger patty. The staff here is great- really kind and super efficient and they are working hard during the pandemic. Will be back for more dishes! read more

We have been regulars at Zareen's for two years now and the quality of the food and the service is still amazing. My new favorite is the Beef Nihari. I also love the all new Lamb gosht (lamb stew). The Punjabi burger is still an old favorite and the free chai tea with masala fries is a must have every time . So good to see a new location has also opened up. Keep it up guys ! read more

i have been here only once recently and we plan to absolutely go back.very delicious food that tastes different from most indian or pakistani restaurants. their shami kababs were the best i have ever had at home or outside in a restaurant. their paratha rolls were also great. the best dish though was their gola kababs - they were the bombs! Just had the most Amazing office lunch done by curried away! they did a themed menu - Valentine's Day - with incredible kabab dishes, veggie curry, saffron rice! Never had teh salad and had no room left for dessert! They chicken kofta curry was to die for as were the chicken-boti kababs. Even my non-desi colleagues loved it and asked to have them cater again. read more

It's a long and narrow space and they have plenty of seating options for small and large groups. The chairs are covered in soft colorful velvet. They were very comfortable to sit in. There is a beautiful painting of a young woman wearing traditional clothing. There is a full bar with seating at the counter. The chandeliers are gorgeous and I loved the colorful umbrellas hanging upside down from the ceiling. Our waiter, Shreeshant, was beyond friendly. He was so kind and attentive to our needs. He gave us some recommendations for appetizers, which I really appreciated. We ordered the Chicken Tandoori Momo's (6 per order), per his recommendation. We also ordered the veggie samosas (2 per order). For our mains we ordered the Dum Biryani with shrimp, chicken korma, eggplant curry and butter naan. I really loved that you can customize your heat level with all the main dishes. We ordered all our dishes mild spice. First to come out was the Chicken Tandoori Momos and the veggie samosa. The momos came out sizzling on a cast iron skillet with onions and peppers underneath them. These came with a mild sauce to accompany them. The samosas came with three different sauces. The sauces were tamarind, mint and a spicy sauce. My favorite was the chicken momos. They were so flavorful from the inside to the outside. They have a tandoori flavor on the exterior and the sauce that it came with paired well with it. The samosas were also very good. I liked the mint sauce best, with the samosas. My husband liked the spicy sauce. I would definitely order both of these again. Next our main dishes came out. They also gave us some plain basmati rice with our food. The dum biryani with shrimp was so good. It's a very large portion. The shrimp were delicious. The chicken korma was creamy and rich from the pureed cashews. It went great with the naan. The eggplant curry was the most mild out of all the dishes. There were three cooked baby eggplants in a coconut curry sauce. I would say the sauce had more of a coconut flavor that stood out. It was good. The naan went well with everything really. We couldn't finish all that we ordered. We were given takeout boxes for our leftovers. We will be eating very good again with these leftovers.
