This place has a really great outside dining area. Unfortunately, that's the only good thing I can say about the place. I ordered the club sandwich and was brought a caesar salad. When they finally brought my sandwich it was missing mayo and bacon. The manager comped it but also clearly didn't care. Even if my order was done correctly it still wouldn't have been good. The onion rings are generic freeze-dried junk that clearly are brought in from their vendor and inedible. My wife got the classic caesar salad with chicken and it had red onions and tomatoes. For those unaware, that is not classic at all. The waiter also never came by to check if everything was ok or if we needed any refills. There are way better places to eat in Moab. I was pleasantly surprised by the pizza here. The crust was crisp and flavorful. We had the Roma and liked it a lot. It's not on the menu, but we got side salads, too. They were full of a nice mix of veggies and lettuce - very full bowls so a little hard to mix, but tasty. I liked the American Shade Hefeweizen and my husband had a local IPA and enjoyed it. We came during mask restrictions and all employees wore them. Try to get a seat on the patio. They have a little fire feature and also misters to keep you cool. Moab has a vibrant downtown, highly charged up. This restaurant is at the center of the energy. Lots of families too, kids with energy at Zax. I suppose that the area's centerpiece, Arches National Park is the big draw, at the city's edge. Lots of outdoor eating at Zax, which would seem a challenge in 100 degree heat, but they employ several technologies to reduce the pain. Also they can manage large crowds with quick service. I found the spinach and artichoke dip excellent, served with vegetables as well as chips. A second floor dining area is a large balcony overlooking the main street of Moab. Might be noisy for some, but the load crowd of diners will muffle the off road, big tired vehicle noise. The salmon was excellent with a lemon herb flavor. Friendly, interesting wait staff. We asked the the hostess if the AC was broken, she gave us a blank look. Anyhow, sat outside and there was a lovely breeze. The outdoor patio area has a cool wood structure that looks like the wood is on fire. Nice people watching spot too. Our server was fairly friendly and somewhat attentive. Normally wouldn't give it a second thought, but she had fingernails that were about an inch long. Gross!! Food - pickle fries. 2 out of 5. The spicy sauce was good. Burger - overcooked and very dry Greek Salad with chix - salad & dressing were good; chicken was like cardboard and was beyond overcooked. Garlic Pesto pizza - menu says "roasted" garlic. It was NOT even close to roasted garlic. It had minced garlic that was off and VERY bitter. I think they put it on after the pizza was cooked. It completely overpowered the entire pizza. I scraped off as much as I could but it completely ruined the pizza. Also, no black olives. On a positive note, I thought the crust was excellent and cooked perfectly. Arrived before the dinner rush, after touring Arches National Park. We ordered Italian Stallion pizza, poo penne pasta, two all you can eat pizza, soup, and salad. The pizzas took forever... The waiter apologized and said three guys called in (sick) so not enough staff. When the pizza arrived i5650 was very good, a pesto based sauce. The crust was thin and delightfully crisp and chewy. I really liked the pizza. They comped the pizza for being late, another tabled got comped too. So we left a healthy tip. The service is great, the food is just okay. After a super long day of hiking we decided to try Zax because it's right across the street from our hotel and we could walk there. In hindsight I wish we had gone somewhere else. Our server, Christian was great and my Raspberry margarita was delicious. We ordered burgers and asked for them to be cooked medium well. Both burgers were undercooked and nothing special. Great atmosphere, great service, great food. We rarely eat at a restaurant twice when on vacation, but my husband loved his fish and chips so much we went there twice so he could eat them again. Super cool place in downtown Moab! The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant is awesome. Super cool pictures from Arches National Park. The service was good. Super quick to get a table and get an order in. We came at the end of their open hours after hitting Arches National Park. They have a diverse menu with lots of options. The pizza looked awesome but ultimately I had to go with the Ancho Chicken sandwich. The sandwich didn't disappoint and the fries were awesome. 4.5/5 I had been here before and gotten a burger that was great as well! Our table also got the ravioli and the sauce was amazing. Absolutely the worst pizza ever!! Had a large chicken, mushroom and garlic. We asked the waiter about the crust. He said it was between thick and thin. Well, it was thick and a third of the pizza was the outer crust with no topping!! Very little chicken or mushrooms but they piled on the garlic. My wife and I had so much gas and acid reflux, we were awake the whole night! My acid reflux was so bad, I felt my throat was on fire! Alex, our server, was superb. As was my Juicy IPA. That is what raises the rating from a 1 (or 0) to a 2. We ordered a large BBQ chicken pizza, which had BBQ sauce as the sauce on the menu. It arrived without any sauce on it whatsoever. We raised our concern with Alex - he brought over two managers. They offered us another pizza - we told them we were staying in a hotel and had no use for another pizza. They said not to worry, they would take care of it with a discount. We ate half of the pizza, without sauce, because we were hungry after a 7 hour drive. Left the rest. Alex brought the bill back, and the manager had taken off 10% of the price of the pizza - $1.90. Alex was embarassed - I told him not to get in the middle of it, that I would pay the bill. He went back to speak with his manager again, and brought back a final bill with less than 1/3 of the price of the pizza discounted. We paid the bill and tipped Alex generously. The manager on duty has NO sense of customer satisfaction or service. He was willing to make me an entire additional pizza that I did not want, yet charged me 2/3 the price of the pizza that we ate only half of - dry, tasteless, no sauce. I would never return to this place in my lifetime, and would urge you to find someplace else to eat. read more

Zax was in walking distance of our hotel so we decided to try it out. It was open on Sunday evening so that was a huge plus. We were seated immediately because we were over 21 and could be seated in the bar area. The area was quiet, unlike most bar areas. Our server promptly greeted us. We both ordered cocktails and got the spinach artichoke dip to start. The drinks and appetizer was brought out very quickly. The drinks were delicious and not watered down. The spinach artichoke dip was okay, probably not something I would get again though. My pizza was to DIE for. The crust was garlicky and buttery and perfectly soft. I'd say it was one of the best pizzas I've had. My husband got the BBQ wings and I couldn't get much detail out of him, but he said they were pretty good and finished all of them. Unfortunately, after our pizzas were brought out, our waitress never came to our table again, despite making eye contact with us several times. We had both finished our meals and waited probably ten minutes for a bill. We kept making eye contact and waving at her, but she never came back over to us. Finally, a different server offered to take our plates. He came back a little while later and asked if we had paid. He then brought our bill to us. I'm not sure, if the server was busy or what was going on, but it's no excuse for the poor service that she provided. Other than that, I would definitely go back! The salad bar is trash, not even sure what it's considered a perk. So basic and thrown together poorly. Mac and Cheese & Spaghetti and Meatballs were huge portions, that's why I'm giving them 3 stars because we were able to eat them again for lunch the next day. But for quality, the Mac and cheese was flavorless. It tasted like a kids meal Mac and cheese. Spaghetti, sub par, nothing special.
