If I could give -negative I would! This is the second fail at this restaurant for us and today's was EPIC! The food is good and we were happy to support a Black business. Earlier today, we were seated for brunch for 3 at 12:45 p.m. I walked out at 1:57 without being served! When we arrived, there was only one party in the dining room with several open tables. A photographer was setting up equipment. We placed our order and 30 minutes after being seated, we saw the severs with several dishes headed in the direction of the photographer. This went on for some time until I finally inquired about our meal. We were told it'd be about 10 minutes. At that time, lukewarm warm spice French toast and eggs arrived for 2 of us; after 5 minutes, we asked that our food be put under a warmer until all the dishes were ready. At 1:55, two dishes arrived, I walked out. My friend spoke to the owner who was in the kitchen who was preparing dishes to photographed. He never came out and addressed his dining room that was now full of waiting patrons. In fact when I left, there were several folks waiting for their orders as well. He was apologetic and comped their meals, but the service is now sub-par. What was once promising. I commented of one of his IG post which he has since taken down, but we are not interested in a discussion of how to better serve paying customers. I started coming here maybe a year ago, I hadn't even noticed the place was there the entire time. Anyway, there aren't many wow Caribbean spots in Hyde Park so I was excited for what they had to offer. Needless to say I was left feeling bittersweet. First, I had tried their coconut frozen drink, 2 actually (due to the long wait) and then the mango (for my fiancé) both taste yum, but that was the very last time they EVER had the coconut available even though it's on their menu. I would call morning, but NOPE and evening STILL NO COCONUT DRINK TODAY. So disappointing! THE WAIT TIME IS RIDICULOUS, if you have somewhere to be DONT GO. As far as I'm concerned even if you're the first person to call it will still take an hour, most likely more. The food is the ONLY saving grace, but my fiancé still refuses to go because of the awful service and consistent lack of inventory. The place itself is kept clean, the interior creates some warm vibes, though it would be more calm if people got their food on time. Try the Asian wrap, jerk wrap or jerk salmon wrap, Asian salad, Zaz sweet chili wings. It seems as though the employees don't get paid very well so they leave. While searching yelp for something new, I noticed this place had opened up in my neighborhood. Once I read all the reviews for the Jerk burger with Mango salsa, I just had to try it. When we called to order the food, we tried to order coconut chicken which was listed on their online menu, however they have discontinued it. I was excited for coconut chicken, but I was not going to let this get in the way of my jerk burger test. My Fiancé walked into the small shop to pick up our order and the women at the counter (maybe the owner) was playing some jazz music from her laptop. He loved that, he wanted to stay there and eat, but unfortunately we both ordered food so he had to bring the order home. I got the jerk burger with a side of sweet potato fries. The burger was unbelievably good. My Fiancé had the american burger. He loves his burgers and has tried many...he said this was one of the best burgers in Boston. I am inclined to agree. The beef was so juicy, and cooked to perfection. The spice of the jerk with the sweetness of the mango salsa was a perfectly flavorful combination. The sweet potato fries were the best I have ever had. My Fiancé, who does not usually like sweet potato fries, kept stealing them off of my plate. This is a huge compliment coming from him. We topped off our meal with one of their cupcakes. It was an Oreo cupcake. The frosting was light, yet tasted identical to the Oreo creme filling. There was an Oreo baked into the bottom of the vanilla cupcake. The entire meal was perfection. I called my order in...the person on the phone accuratrly repeated back...I waited for about 30 minutes for them to call me to pick up my food. I went to pick it up and guess what??? Yes you will have to wait about 30 minutes or so for your food but it's all cooked to order and fresh(that's totally appreciated) my ONLY issue is the customer service. From one business owner to the next this is a big deal and can be a deal breaker for some people. Smiles and restaurant professionalism would seal the deal on how great I think this place is. My Fiance and I decided to order from them.We called several times on a Friday night and the call was never answered.The next week we decided to try this place again. This time they answered and we placed an order for 2 Jerk Salmon burgers with sweet potato fries. Now, this was the most basic salmon burger I've ever had. 1 piece of lettuce, salmon burger had jerk seasoning smeared on the top(not what i expected.) fries were soggy. I continued to hear good things so i thought, hey lets give them another shot. This time instead of calling (which i dont recommend as they do not answer and seem to be in severe need of additional help) i used DoorDash! I I attempted to make an order and it kept cancelling. We finally were able to get through to someone on the phone and they said they are too busy to take online orders.WHAT?? So my lady and i drove there and there was 1 cook and 1 person at the counter. there was several to-go bags lined up to be picked up. the Phone was ringing offt the hook and there was just one person taking order at the counter and taking telephone orders. I think the quality of the food if OK at best but could be because they dont want to pay other employees so the 1 cook they have does all the work and therefore sometimes things arent done with the most care and highest quality. The front counter really needs help. They need to hire more people especially on the Friday(BTW they arent open on sunday) I really tried to avoid writing a bad review because there arent many great local options in the Mattapan/Hyde park section of Boston. This place lacks consistent quality and organization. They need more help to keep up with the orders. there needs to be someone else assisting in the kitchen. Wonderful diversity in menu choices. My husband and I discovered Zaz by chance, and have since told many a friend about the place. The owner knows and greets my husband by name, he is that frequent a customer. The only draw back to Zaz is that it isn't closer to our house! Yes, the food does take some time...That is because it's fresh and made to order. Only one chef as of now-Completely fine with us, as he makes everything taste amazing. My favorite is the Asian Chicken Wrap, which includes jasmine rice and mango salsa. I went there for the first time today. I had the waffles with strawberries and a waffle combo. That came with sausage, eggs, spinach & cheese. The food was made fresh and tasty. I also had the strawberry drink.. and it was delicious. A lil on the sweet side. The girl (staff) was accommodating. The place looked very cozy and clean. The parking sucks. The only thing keeping me from giving them a full 5 stars was the long wait. For breakfast we waited there like 30-40 minutes. But it was worth the wait. Visit Boston this weekend and stopped in for a quick dinner. Zaz was recommended by a friend who said the food was really good. Both my boyfriend and myself ordered the oxtail with white rice, a mango slushee for him and a passion fruit green tea for me. The drinks came quickly, they were both really good. So we're off to a great start. Food comes out not too long after which wasn't expected since there is a sign that states all of the food is cooked to order from fresh ingredients. So upon first look I can see that the white rice is wet, VERY wet, the oxtail looks good. A nice sized portion with a good amount of gravy. I tentatively taste the rice and it tastes like they may have used coconut milk to cook the rice which may have been the reason why the rice was so soggy. It was edible. The oxtail was nice and soft, fall off the bone with a pretty good flavor. So in all of the reviews, the oxtail plate is paired with plantains the waitress also told us that the oxtail plate comes with rice black/white and plantains. When we received our plates they were both sans plantains when we asked about it, we were told that our food does not come with plantain and we have to order it on the side. Ordered the plantain, it comes to the table and it's SOOOOOOO greasy. Just oozing out oil. Aside from the food being subpar Caribbean food the service wasn't any better. Getting the servers attention was a task even though there were barely any people in there at the time. It was an okay experience I don't think I would go back. read more

It's already terrible how excessive the wait is but to not get my order right and not at least to make things right is terrible for business. It's very unfortunate for me to have no other choice but to write an review like this. I placed an order of 2 chicken/waffles drove from 45 min of Boston. I had high respect for the restaurant because the atmosphere is cozy & it's also a nice stop if your local. However, this past Saturday after driving down for my favorite on their breakfast menu & bragging to a co-worker we realized they forgot to pack the syrup, utensils etc after w had already made it back onto the highway which was very disappointing. I called Zaz a young lady answered the phone I explained why I was calling, she placed me on hold then man answered so I explained a 2x why I was calling. His response was unexpected he said" Well I hear what your saying but it's not like we messed up the oder it's just syrup what do you want me to do" I then said to him how much it cost me for the 2 orders plus my time that is not the response I expected. I asked his name he said rudely "Henry" I asked to speak with a manager or owner he said they were busy I then asked if they can give me a call back he said yup I offered my name then my number he literally hung up...I heard the phone hang up. I live a couple blocks away from ZAZ and come here very often. It is one of my favorite spots in Hyde Park. The creativity on the menu shines bright in a neighborhood full of Latin and Island inspired cuisines. We regularly recommend ZAZ to our AirBnb guests who always rave about their meals from here as well. The space is small and comfortable. It is very clean and they play great, mellow Jazz music. Unlike other reviews here, I always experience friendly, attentive service regardless of who serves me. The owner is a really nice guy who will come out to say Hi sometimes. Our favorite dishes are the Jerk Salmon Burger and the Jerk Salmon Wrap. We've also really enjoyed the Lemongrass Chicken Sandwich, the Black Rice, and a couple of their funky pasta dishes. ZAZ has truly never disappointed, and we have been coming here regularly since moving to Hyde Park in 2014. read more

After weeks of communicating with the owner and the Catering Manager I was informed less than 48 hours prior to my event (via email at 10:30pm...could not give me the courtesy of a phone call) that they could no longer accommodate me and host my event. I was stuck with a very EXPENSIVE cake, 25 guests, and no place to celebrate. I had family in from another country here to celebrate and Zaz ruined it.
