I purchased a 2500 sqft townhome and hired ZED electric to perform an electrical "facelift". Specifically, all electrical outlets, wall and dimmer switches replaced, bath and laundry room exhaust fans replaced, installed recessed lights in all bedrooms, upgraded all fixtures and lights to LED, assemble and install 3 chandeliers, any evasive dry wall work was appropriately patched. The office managers, estimators and electricians who supported my 3 month long project were exceptional: responsive, courteous, knowledgeable, reliable, trustworthy, accurate, fair pricing, high quality workmanship, excellent worksite cleanliness. My dining room light fixture was not working along with my two outdoor lights. I called ZED Electric in the morning on Friday, 1/2/14 and she said it would probably be Monday or Tuesday before someone could come out, which was fine with me. She took down my number and said she'd call me as soon as there was availability. She called that afternoon around 2 and I was home. She sent over the electrician, who was super cool. I told him I wanted to fix the fixtures, as opposed to replacing. The dining room - he took the fixture off and noticed the wires were taped up. He removed the tape and put wire nuts on the ends and my light worked! Woo hoo! The first outdoor light - He took the fixture off and noticed right away that the wiring was jacked up. He fiddled with the wiring and got it to work. The second outdoor light - The fixture was old and he said it had a halogen bulb that was energy inefficient. He had an extra outdoor light that was really basic and he installed that for me. It was only $5. So, to fix all 3 lights was exactly 1 hour which was $135 plus the outside light fixture, which was $5. Overall, I highly recommend Zed Electric. Very professional, efficient service. A+ read more

We bought a home built in the late 70's that had no ceiling lighting, didn't have a cable outlet on the wall where our TV needed to go, and needed some electrical work in the garage upgraded from a DIY solution to an up-to-code permanent solution. David from Zed came and took notes on my extensive wish-list of upgrades and fixes throughout the house. I had a detailed quote the next day that reflected the walk-through we did together. ZED sent out Niall to do the work for our house. Niall was friendly and already had a good understanding of the project when he arrived. Our project was a week's worth of work for Niall. He got our house wired up right while we were off at work. Felt totally comfortable leaving our home in his care while we were gone. I had a few last minute changes (adding a few dimmer switches, installing a fan on a really tall ceiling) and Niall rolled with it all. He was incredibly helpful and helped us to understand the ins and outs of how everything worked. Recently my very old cooktop died. Unfortunately for me it was wired 30 amp and all of the new electric ones are 50 amp. So the question I needed to answer was whether it was cheaper/better to convert to gas or upgrade to 50 amp. Everyone I talked to gave me a default answer of it is always cheaper to convert to gas. I didn't really believe them and they all refused to come and give me an actual quote. In my case the breaker box was near the kitchen and I was able to buy an electric cooktop much cheaper than a gas one. David came out. Told me I was lucky and it would not be much to run a 50 amp connection to the cooktop location. They were able to schedule me for a week later. Julian came out to do the actual work. He worked very fast and even patched the small holes he needed to make. Over all I'm very happy and I would hire Zed Electric again. read more

I called Zed Electric on a recommendation, and I'm glad I did. I have a rental property with a washer/dryer unit and the electrical outlet was no longer working and pulling out of the wall (tripped the circuit breaker). I called another recommended electrician and told it would be two weeks. Then I called Zed and they had a distant appointment as well, but offered an alternative whereby my tenant would let Zed know his work schedule and if time opened up, they'd call and come take a look. They came the following day ("Dave") and he replaced it for a total of $175 ($145 hourly rate, minimum 1 hour, and parts at cost). They don't charge for travel time either. Given the other positive reviews, I'd strongly consider having Zed do electrical upgrades in my own home. Very professional scheduler who took down all my info. Always great when I don't have to be present during repairs on a rental property. Big time saver. Great job everyone at Zed! read more

A light fixture in a bedroom stopped working. They came out and charged $180 to 'diagnose' the problem, which, with a voltage tester would have taken them less than 10 seconds. They wanted to charge an additional $200+ to install a light fixture - not even providing the fixture. Luckily, I found out about it before they came out to do it, and had my handy-around-the-house hubby do it. Put in a $30 light fixutre in under 5 minutes, and we were done - the only tool required was a screwdriver. The whole job, even if you charged a travel fee and an hour minimum should have been less than the $180 they charged for the 'diagnosis'. I tell everyone I know to avoid them! read more

Good electrical work, bad pricing compared to alternatives. I used them previously a couple years ago for a new outlet on one side of vanity as well as a small wiring job. The electrician they sent was professional and competent. He had to wire through the attic but did so with minimal dry wall damage which was appreciated. At the time, it was about $300 to get the outlet installed (I do think I charged an extra half hour or so because of a "break" the electrician took.) Regardless, I was happy with the service so when we needed similar work done in our new home along with a couple dimmer switches installed, we decided to contact them again. What a huge waste of time. First, we had to make an appt to have someone come give an estimate and then wait several days for an estimate to come back. When we got the estimate back, it was almost $700!! This seemed pretty unreasonable for a new outlet (regardless of how complicated the wiring be) and a couple dimmer switches so I contacted several other places for estimates. I was provided estimates/responses immediately and HALF the price. And all had availability within the week for the job - no coming for an estimate and then sending estimate later, all to have to reschedule an appt for them to come back to do the actual. Sorry, but nobody has time for that - if you have a real job. But maybe the people that can actually afford the work at ZED don't have to work... Anyway, in short, believe their electrical work is solid but could definitely improve customer service, availability and pricing. read more

I've used Zed Electric numerous times and have always been impressed. Years ago, I needed power ran to a new hot tub. I researched a bunch of companies and selected Zed Electric. The technicians were on-time, courteous, and did great work. About a month ago, we purchased a new home and needed a variety of electrical work done that was noted in our home inspection. I reached out to Zed Electric once again. I spoke with Dave, the owner, and explained what work was needed. He asked for a copy of the inspection report so they would know exactly what they were looking at when they came to do their estimate. Matt arrived on time to perform a more comprehensive inspection. He noted a few additional items, which the general inspection hadn't caught. About a week later, I was able to get an appointment set and the work completed. In the midst of all of this, I was having some repair work done to my existing home to get it ready to sell. One of the contractors tripped a couple of circuits and they wouldn't reset. As luck would have it, one of them was the circuit my internet connected to, and since I'm currently working from home, I needed it fixed ASAP. I called Zed Electric and explained the situation. Dave was able to dispatch a technician immediately and within the hour I was back up and working. I realize many reviews are written based solely on a single experience, either good or bad. Zed electric is amazing!! we had a huge job that was needed on our 1963 house. rewiring the entire house, panel upgrade, exterior lights installed. new switches through out our home. Not only are the team at Zed professional, they are timely, friendly and fulfilled everything they had promised and beyond. This is not your standard electrical problem. In early June we had a sub panel lose all power. There were no blown breakers there or on the master house panel. The home was built in 1955 and is about 65 years old. The house wiring is complex, with inaccessible junction boxes. We had one electrical contractor try to locate a wire break, but they couldn't find it. They "tapped out" and referred us to ZED Electric. They recommended ZED as they felt there would need to be a bypass circuit created and this was beyond them. I called ZED at about 8 AM in early August and by late morning Andy showed up. He was familiar with the first contractor so did not duplicate their effort. He isolated where the opportunity was for an effective bypass from another nearby panel. He found an unused breaker of sufficient current to support the original panel. He routed new wires, got Richard his co-worker to repair two access holes for wire routing, and wrapped it all up by 4PM. It worked perfectly! The price charged was very fair for the results. This review is long overdue - sorry Zed Electric. We were having issues with a "ghost" in the house. The downstairs lights would blink on and off. We called Zed and they fit us in very quickly. When the electrician arrived, he changed out the circuit breaker for the circuit with the blinking lights. We turned on all lights and they didn't appear to be flashing. Woohoo! However, a couple of days after he left, they started blinking again. We called Zed back and they sent another electrician out. He removed some more parts from the circuit board (I apologize if I am not discovering everything correctly). It turns out the bus board had some corrosion on it at that spot. The electrician was able to move that circuit to a new spot and we haven't had a problem since. Since they guarantee their work, they didn't charge us for the second visit. Dave and Julian completed some work on my condo last month (apparently I started my review and forgot to publish) and I couldn't be happier with the work they did. They can right in the middle of their arrival window, gave me a quick estimate, and got right to work. I wanted to have a chandelier removed and a new one installed in a slightly different location. They were able to do so without any extra holes (the hole you see in the photo is from the previous chandelier) and we're all clean up and gone with 90 minutes of arrival. The guys were friendly, personable, and knowledgeable (I asked questions about future projects because I fully plan to use Zed for all my little electrical projects. To top it all off, they completed the work under budget! Their over-the-phone bid was already lower than everyone else, so to come in even under that was a fantastic surprise. Great company at a probably the best rates in town!
