We cannot say enough good things about Jim Zeffery and his team! They saved from us a disastrous kitchen remodel. We used another company to remodel our kitchen, guest bath and hallway cabinets. They were to install new custom cabinets which they did. However, here's the horrible part of our story. The cabinet stain quality was horrendous! Some of the cabinets were not made properly or installed properly. They didn't give us all of the cabinets doors and they didn't finish the job. In our desperation we searched Yelp and found Zeffery's Cabinet. We were so nervous about having another bad experience. The original project started at the end of July 2021 and here we were in January with no idea of if or when our remodel would be finished. Jim walked our project in a very calm, professional manner and assured us that they could fix it all. His price was reasonable for all of the work that needed to be done and he clearly laid out the project and payment schedule. His team did not make a mess in our home. They protected everything! They were quiet and went about their work. They didn't bad mouth the other company's work and just kept assuring us that all would be well. Through our horrible experience we have learned what to look for in a contractor. Zeffery's Cabinets meet all of our criteria and we highly recommend them to everyone. We received a call from Jim very promptly after submitting a request on Thumbtack. He was very thorough in regards to the work he would do to help us with our crown moulding installation (including a fairly tricky masonry wall that is far from ideal or square). I had a very good feeling after speaking with Jim over the phone. He came to inspect the home before providing an estimate, and his estimate was not at all out of line with what we expected. So we felt very comfortable with our decision to hire Jim. Of course, we wanted to know what kind of craftsmanship he commands. He showed multiple pictures in his portfolio that illustrate his vast talents. Again, this helped make the decision easier to move forward and schedule the 2-day job. Jim and Brian came on schedule each day (despite the long drive to Orange County), worked very efficiently, were respectful of our furniture and home, and left the home in relatively clean condition (there will always be some dust/mess). Most importantly, the work was so wonderful that we decided to have them expand the scope to include our whole house! They still got it done, with the two additional rooms, within the original 2-day schedule...and that included another troublesome masonry wall. In the end, we are very pleased with the work and professionalism of Jim and his staff, Brian. I can't say enough good things about Jim and his crew - professional and personable through every step! I would highly recommend them for resurfacing cabinets and new cabinet build out - and design! We downsized to a smaller house. It had a very small kitchen that was part of a small 'great' room. There was very little storage or cabinet space. The fireplace had 2 recessed areas on either side. The former owner put faux reclaimed wood in the recessed areas and mantel, and put used brick around the fireplace. The entire house had brown stained concrete on the floor- similar to what you would see in a WalMart. The walls were a gold-brown and the cabinets in the kitchen were an orange oak color, but in really good shape. We installed cream tile with brown/grey wood grain. At least, that warmed and lightened the house up. We decided we wanted to refinish the kitchen cabinets, add cabinets in the recesses between the fireplace and a long stretch of cabinets in the dining area of the great room/dinning area. We obtained 3 quotes. (I made an appointment with another recommended kitchen storefront, but they never showed up nor apologized for not showing up when I called). I've relied on YELP for other things, so I tried it for my cabinets. Zefferies Cabinets was highly rated and I loved the photos on his website. So I emailed him via Yelp. We made an appointment and he even called to confirmed it. Jim was on time, dressed professionally and most importantly - listened to me! He provided drawings and a quote in about a week. The drawings were the exact representation of what I asked for. We had to work out details, of course, but his translation of my vision was spot-on. The other two quotes did not provide drawings, were late and did not act or appear professional. After working out the electrical/lighting, style of cabinet face, molding style, color of sold surfaces and paint, etc. - we scheduled a time to start. We were not in a big hurry, so we worked with each other's schedule. The 2-3 gentlemen who did the work, impressively kept things clean and cleaned up everyday so we could live as best we could in the remodel. The detail and pride of workmanship I cannot say enough about. Brian and Ed worked well together and they truly took pride in their work. Their craftsmanship was amazing. From the design stage and even during the install, Jim and his team offered ideas and 'enhancements' that only added beauty to the work. While we did not do all of them, we are so glad we did. If you want to spend lots of money and deal with constant issues then please call this company. From the start it seemed things would go great. Not even halfway through I wish I could of backed out. While Jim is a very nice person his staff are so unreliable!!!! Cabinets I have are chipped,kitchen lights They installed are coming out of wall. We were promised a simple dimmer for kitchen lights and 3 trips to store and multiple attempts we are left with no dimmer and lights that blind you.Sink that leaks ever since I had it. Today a false cabinet below sink just fell off!! Garbage disposal was installed wrong!! They used Insinkerator parts from old garbage disposal and used it with Frigidaire disposal we have. Today I called a plumber for the 4th time and was told everything needs to be replaced. His caulking job turned yellow and disgusting in 2 months. Water has leaked through and made the wood wet which smells horrible and I'm sure will start to get moldy. Our stainless steel sink which he purchased from wayfair is already rusted.The plumber that came today said we can't even replace the sink unless the quartz is removed since it's being held in place.Talking about the quartz, the measurements were wrong since the actual wall is not perfect and instead of fixing wall first then doing the quartz the countertop guys just did the job and hoped we wouldn't see it. When talking about the start times, they were always planned by us and maybe 10% of time they were actually on time. Jim made constant excuses of workers whereabouts where I had to keep calling him and even drive around looking for one of his employees when I was told he was down the street which he wasn't. One of the workers even brought in a non employee into my house to do work who Jim actually told his employee was never allowed at a job site. This wasn't the first time for that. We have spent a couple thousand dollars on multiple pLumber trips,electricians,etc and our kitchen still isn't completely finished!!! Also we asked for a hood to be installed and I was told it was going to be done. I specifically told Jim to buy something for at least $500 and Jim brought the crappiest hood I could of found which was the worst hood he could of possibly got.No power and shitty model. If I spend over around 15,000 on a kitchen and I'm left with half ass work,corners cut,crappy materials and not everything completely done, how would you feel? I warn you that Jim will charm the heck out of you and gain your trust but his staff are HORRIBLE and can't back up his Promises!!!! He says they can do many things but the only thing they can do is build cabinets, which will chip and look like crap within a couple months. Also, he will make constant excuses for his staff and timing issues. Beware!!! I'm showing you only some of the ridiculous work that was done just because I can't post over a 100 photos of all the issues I have with his employees work . He also did our master closet,upstairs bathroom,downstairs closet,linen closet,laundry room,and I don't even have the time of day to go on about how those turned out,which I'm not happy either. I was contemplating on contacting him for the last couple months but I have been left with such a bad taste in my mouth I don't want anyone in this company within 100ft of my property!! We always paid before work was even done and never had issues with giving him money and in the end we got completely SCREWED!!! Please read this carefully before getting involved with this company. I would like to highly recommend Jim Zeffrey of Black Coffee Cabinets. Jim has done several projects for us. In 2000 he designed and built 3 beautiful maple built cabinets for our new home. In 2012, we had a pipe burst behind a wall that destroyed the 8 foot lighted cabinet Jim had built. We were adamant with insurance that the rebuilt cabinet must be a perfect match to the other two cabinets in the room, and they agreed being unable to find a carpenter to duplicate such a piece of furniture. We contacted Jim and he immediately stepped and removed the large one piece cabinet and returned it to his workshop. He was able to save all the drawers, lighting and glass shelves when rebuilding the cabinet. The re-staining of the box was beautiful and the new cabinet was a seamless replacement. Jim's work is not only highly detailed and craftsman specific, but he's also a very professional contractor to do business with, timely response and turnover time, and his end product is always dependably exact. Zeffries came out last week to do an estimate for kitchen countertops..I was told I would get a call early this week with my estimate. I never got a call! I had the feeling my job may have been too small because I did not have them do my cabinets but either way they knew before they came out that all I wanted done was countertops. I actually refinished my cabinets myself and they came out beautifully.. Anyways, I just had countertops installed today by Capital Countertops and I love how they came out. Zeffries definitely disappointed me by not getting back to me.. Guess they didn't need my business This is in response to the response below of my review. Listen.. I understand things happen. Obviously my proposal/estimate did fall through the cracks. If you would have owned up to that I would have gladly removed my review like you requested me to do in your email. But I don't appreciate the dishonesty. Truth of the matter is I received my proposal after I wrote the Yelp review. You stated in your reply that you sent the proposal to email address given which I did not receive. However I received the proposal after my Yelp review and you had the same email address. You also stated that you called and spoke to me personally afterwards, which you did not. I also don't feel like I should have followed up with you after not receiving the estimate. I had a few people giving me estimates and of course I was going to go with one of the estimates I received without having to chase them. My opinion is.. If you did not receive a response from me after you "emailed" the estimate I would think you would have followed up with me.. I'm not an unreasonable person, I am a business owner myself and I understand things happen. If you want you can forward the first email you supposedly sent to me showing when and to what email address you sent it to then I would be more than happy to delete the review. read more

Very upset hasn't been even a year and the cabinets are peeling and come to find out my sink wasn't installed correctly. The front of my false cabinet fell off so I get a view of the sink daily and I am reminded of my money being wasted. Very upset with paying plumber after plumber to come out to find the leak. I thought my water purifier was the problem so I called that company and installers figured out the probblem the sink wasn't cut correctly so it constantly leaks since day 1 of installation. Had Zeffery's cabinets come by a few times but guess they couldn't figure out the leak either took about a year to finally discover what the problem is. 2 years ago I installed some expensive exotic granite in the kitchen with a matching granite table. A couple months ago we had an undiscovered kitchen drain crack and leaked waste from the dishwasher and disposal under the cabinet. When Servicepro came they tore out 2/3 of the lower cabinets (put supports under the granite) to dry it all up. To save the granite custom cabinets would have to be installed. All cabinet companies told me the granite would have to be replaced (along with a glass tile back guard) because they were installing ready made. Jim came out, said no problem with the custom work and gave me several options and prices. We ended up replacing the other oak cabinets and installed maple with solid raised doors and reskinned the panels. He sent out Steve who was on time, showed up every day (even worked Sat) and did meticulous quality work. If there was a problem they took care of it. Jim even matched the stain to compliment my dining and living walnut floors. Great people, super craftsmanship. read more

I came across this high quality company through a site called "Thumbtack". I had 5 people come and bid out building a custom library and office. Jim Zeffery stood head and shoulders above them all . He was prompt and professional. He personality is warm, and he brings a calm and knowledgeable presence to the job.
