Zelo is back! We were thrilled to see Zelo open again after the extended pandemic closure. They did not disappoint. Dinner was fantastic! We split the Brazilians salad and then had the Chicken Fettuccine and the Pork Chip entree. I've been wanting some really good pasta since returning from Italy. The spinach fettuccine was cooked perfectly and the sauce of cream and lemon was just right. The pork chops were cooked perfectly as well and were devoured. We ordered the Lemon cheesecake which was the perfect choice to end the meal. So happy to have this gem back in the neighborhood. read more

It was my wife's birthday, we usually dine at Hells Kitchen and walked by Zelo a lot and were interested in trying it out. Before going there we read some reviews on Yelp and a few people gave a glowing review to the server Benjamin.I joked to my wife, wouldn't it be something if we got Benjamin as our server. Imagine our surprise when we got seated to our table and the server introduced himself as Benjamin. We mentioned we only have an hour to eat since we have theater tickets, he fast tracked our order and I mentioned that we are here to celebrate my wife's birthday, he then said he wants to buy her a dessert and said that anytime we are here we can request him. Needless to say, we give the food 5 stars out of 5 and give Benjamin 6 stars out of 5 read more

We finally made our way to Zelo after it reopened since the pandemic, and it was such a treat! We showed up about 5 minutes early for our reservation and we're seated right away. Even on a Thursday evening, the restaurant was packed - it was great to see! The decor in Zelo is beautiful. The building has an old art-deco interior but the restaurant added modern decor. It was such a cool space! We were on a tight timeline for dinner because we were headed to a show, and our servers and the staff were so accommodating and friendly. We each ordered a glass of wine while we waited for our entrees and our server brought out a bread basket. The bread was SO good - light and fluffy in the middle with a perfectly crispy crust. For entrees I ordered the lasagna and my husband ordered the herbed salmon. The lasagna was amazing. It had a flavorful bolognese sauce and the perfect amount of cheese. The salmon was cooked well and had a great flavor with the herbs. The zucchini noodle underneath were done so well - they had some snap and weren't watery or soggy. Sophie and Rubi from Ecuador were the absolute best recommending amazing small plates and a steak that they cooked perfectly medium rare. The ambience in this restaurant has impeccable lighting, fluffy complementary bread, and welcoming service. They brought water out whenever is necessary, and the restrooms are incredibly clean. We recommend the Chilean sea bass because it is tender, and the dry aged New York strip which had savory edges. I couldn't emphasize enough how amazing Sophie was with her professional demeanor, humble knowledge, unparalleled teamwork, and warm smiles in the cold Minnesota weather. We were really looking forward to our first time at Zelo but we were left disappointed. It started with the young lady at the host stand. When we walked in she didn't even acknowledge us and there was no greeting. Then once seated, it took over 10 minutes for our server to come to our table. We watched as other people came after us and had drinks and bread before we were even acknowledged. Given that we had an 4:45 reservation, meaning they hadn't been open that long, that's unacceptable. Our first impression was off to a bad start. For drinks, we had aperol spritz, cosmopolitan and gin & tonic. They were very weak given the price tag. For the food: Parmesan crusted shrimp - 2/5 good but without the cocktail & tartar sauce it would have been nothing. The breading was too soft and they lacked flavor. Caesar salad - 3/5 good but nothing special given that it was $17. Mussels - 2/5 nicely presented but no flavor. Didn't taste the saffron. Butternut squash ravioli - 2/5 the filling the good but very sweet and the sauce was thin. Carbonara - 1/5 this was a special of the night. Watery. They did not emulsify the egg into the sauce to make it creamy. It was essentially just pasta water. Walleye - 3/5 this was a special of the night as well. It was porcini crusted with roasted potatoes. The flavor of the fish was good. My only grip is that when I asked how much it was I was told she couldn't remember but thought it was $37. When the bill came it was $40. While its not a huge difference she should have followed up with the correct price given that I ordered the dish and the fact that she said she would double check. Atmosphere- 2/5 the vibes got after a while but it was so bright in the restaurant. It offered no privacy or ambiance and we were seated at a booth that was connected with another directly on the side, meaning you literally felt like you were sitting at the table with them as there was only a thin, short wall separating us. The complimentary valet is a nice perk but it was understaffed. The gentleman doing it were very kind but we had to stand in a line outside for about 15 minutes just to give our ticket. There were only 2 of them. And they had to run kiddy corner across the street at a major intersection and then down a full block and around a corner just to get to the parking ramp. Highly unsafe for them in my opinion. They were doing their best. Lucky for us it was 50 degrees outside in December otherwise we would have been freezing our tail off. If you're looking for good Italian food in Minneapolis, do yourself a favor and go to Bar la Grassa. Food is 10 times better and half the price. read more

Food is wonderful, can't recommend the crab cakes enough. They're delicious! Service is great and appreciate the attention to detail, for example they'll fold your napkin for you while you're in the bathroom without interrupting the rest of the table. The building and space is beautiful too, love the chandelier and ceilings, however it can be a little loud so choose a table closer to a wall if anyone has a hard time hearing. It's a small thing but I drank one glass of water and it sat unfilled for the majority of the time until I asked for a refill once I was almost done with the meal. I appreciate al dente pasta but this had a slight crunch still. I asked what fish was in the linguine Del Mar and he assured me it would be the special fish of the evening not salmon. It ended up having salmon. I was talked out of the pappadelle and I think I should have ordered that instead. The ambience was great, for such a busy, frantic restaurant, there's still an aura of intimacy to the dining experience. I could hear my partner just fine amid the activity. Zelo was a lovely resturant! My friend and I came to Zelo for dinner last night. We loved the ambiance of the resturant, the decor was very modern and beautiful. Our waitress was Kareena and she was extremely attentive and very friendly. The bread they give on the table was delicious, came out warm right after we were seated. We ordered a small Cesar salad and the scallops as an appetizer. Loved both of these appetizer options. They even split the salad for us because they knew we were sharing. The Cesar was delicious, it had the perfect amount of dressing, Parm cheese and croutons that tasted homemade. Excellent and exactly how I like my Cesar salads! The scallops came out with a beautiful presentation and the crispy procuitto browned on top was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the scallops as an appetizer option. For our entrees, I ordered the tortiglioni rossa and my friend Payton ordered the classic lasagna. I enjoyed my entree but I felt it was a bit cold and the sauce was a bit too spicy for my liking. Payton enjoyed her lasagna and thought it was great. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Zelo and would definitely be back when visiting the Minneapolis area again! Highly recommend! read more

I liked the vibe of the bar, decor and setup. The bartender (didn't catch her name) was attentive and had some wonderful suggestions. I had the cio Bella salad and linguine primavera with a ton of fresh veggies . The salad dressing was perfect and the cheese melted in my mouth. All ingredients tasted very fresh and were cooked wonderfully. Pasta was delicious also and perfectly al dente. There was a cool vibe and good after work crowd. All the staff I interacted with very kind and professional. They have a significant outdoor seating area as well. Bar is fully stocked with many whiskey and cognac options. Zelo is back and better than before! My friend was invited to the soft opening last Monday and asked if I wanted to join her. Of course I did! Couldn't wait. We are regulars at Ciao Bella in Edina, the sister Resturant to Zelo. Similar dishes and atmosphere. There ended up six of us there. Which was nice so we could try different items. We were at the bar,so I don't know what the dinning room experience is like. Started out with some drinks...I had a Tito's martini (ask for blue cheese olives), there was an w espresso drink, and a few other fruity drinks to chose from. First appetizer we chose was the tuna crisp, which we always get at Ciao Bella. My favorite. Seared ahi tuna on a sesame seed cracker, with touch of soy sauce, mango and avocado. Next were the scallops. So tender and buttery. The beef tenderloin crostini with a truffle aioli. One of my favorites! We didn't have the parmesan shrimp, but it's also one of my favorites at Caio Bella so I imagine it's just as good at Zelo. Next my friend and I bot picked the heirloom grain salad. It has spinach, avocado and mix of grains with a lemon and extra virgin olive oil. My friend substituted balsamic vinegar for the lemon. Both are fantastic! Next was the pesto crusted sea bass. If you enjoy sea bass, you have to have this at least once.in your life. Full of flavor! The wild mushroom flatbread pizza is amazing with the truffle oil they put in it. Finally, the linguini di mare- a combination of muscles , shrimp and scallops in a fish broth! Dessert came and I was done. But the others kept going! Go team! Put came the crème brûlée, blueberry cobbler and a budino ( flourless chocolate cake with gelato). If I could only choose one, it would be the cobbler...or the budino. They both looked so good and the expressions on my friends faces sold me on them. If you are going downtown, I highly recommend Zelo. We've been going to Zelino for lunch so we wanted to try Zelo for a long time now. Came here to celebrate an anniversary and we got ourselves a reservation. We came in right on time for our reservation and the host said that they were running late on tables in the dining room, but we can choose to stay in the patio if we'd like. So we said, alright, we will take the patio. It seems like they have two separate hosts for the dining room and patio. We ordered our foods, our waiter was pretty rude for interrupting us in the middle of ordering. In result, he got our order wrong. We did not get the complimentary bread either, but that's okay. We ordered Braised Lamb Crostini, Tortiglioni Rossa, and Kale Salad. They brought out some plates for the salad and they were extremely dirty (residual foods, stains, etc.) We asked our waitress if we could get new plates because they were dirty. She just took our plates and no apologies at all. When our entrees came, we noticed they got the wrong order. We told our waitress about it and she just took the plates away, again, no apologies. At this point, we were upset with the whole situation. We were here to celebrate an important day of our lives and our experience was horrible. Finally, the manager came out and settled everything. She apologized for the whole thing and took care of our bill. The foods were just mediocre. The Tortiglioni Rossa sauce tastes like Vodka Sauce from a jar and I think it was average. The lamb crostini was delicious, perfect for a warm weather day. I would highly recommend Lemonetta Bella for dessert. It was sweet, tangy, and smooth. The salted walnut definitely gave it a nice texture to it. Maybe in the future, I will give Zelo another chance. But now, I will just stick with Zelino. read more

Finally got to try out Zelo before a concert in downtown. They offered free valet parking but I was able to find a spot on the street. Reservations were a good idea for a Tuesday at 5:30pm. Started with the Brussels sprouts which I would highly recommend and a grapefruit Gimlet. This was on the sweeter side but to be expected with this type of drink. They also served complimentary hot bread with the creamiest butter. So good. I ordered the tortiglioni rossa pasta and it was incredibly flavorful. You can choose between a small and large order and I got the large so I could take home leftovers for only a few extra dollars. Service was nothing to rave about. I like asking servers what they recommend on the menu but our questions did not seem appreciated by our waiter and it took awhile to get the bill at the end. I like that they try to use local ingredients and liked the set up with the dining rooms and separate bar area. There were tons of business people in suits but it would be a great place for a date night as well. read more

Before going on any family trip, we do a lot of research as to where we want to eat. My parents were flying in for my masters graduation and wanted to find somewhere special to eat. Zelo came up in our search multiple times and the menu looked really nice. We made a reservation and I wasn't sure what to expect. We pulled up and I was so glad to see that they had complimentary valet parking since parking in the North Loop is always a pain. I walked inside and we were seated right away. It's beautiful and has a very high end and classy feel. Every dish I saw on the way to my table looked incredible. We were seated in a booth in the back corner which worked out perfectly. I must mention that the service here is incredible. We had an amazing waitress who was very on top of everything we needed, never letting my water glass get half empty, to how sweet she was. The other staff working were so helpful and attentive too. We ordered an appetizer to start and opted for the matchstick zucchini which was definitely not what we were expecting. We expected more like zucchini sticks but it was basically zoodles in a light sauce with slivered almonds and fresh parmesan. It was truly delicious and amazing how they can elevate such a basic vegetable. For entrees, I opted for the butternut squash ravioli without the pancetta ham. I was a little hesitant because it didn't sound super exciting and I've had some bad ravioli in the past. I have very high ravioli expectations! Some other dishes ordered at or table were the Walleye, Linguini di Mare and the special of shrimp and scallops. Everything came out and was presented beautifully. I ended up splitting my dish with my mom who had the Walleye. Seriously the food was so delicious I am still dreaming of those raviolis. Everything is so flavorful. I loved the fish and it was so fresh. We couldn't say enough good things about this meal. It was also my birthday and the waitress knew this and brought out two different desserts for us to share which was so sweet. This is probably one of the best meals I've ever had. I loved Zelo and can't say enough good things about it. Yes it's expensive but you are getting very high quality and delicious food with great service. read more
