Tavola is the Italian-inspired hotel restaurant, located in the Elliot Park Hotel in downtown Minneapolis. My wife and I had four dine-in meals there during our 3 night stay at the hotel, and found the meals and service to be OK. As part of our stay, we got three breakfast vouchers (one entree/one non-alcoholic drink each) for 2 people and a $100 total hotel credit, with the easiest place to spend it being the hotel restaurant. Thus decided to have our first night's dinner as well as each breakfast. The restaurant shares the same valet system as the hotel, with the main entrance at the front of the building. The entrance from the hotel is open to the bar area, with the main dining area further down. Tavola has a good website, with current menus and prices. We noticed that Happy Hour runs daily from 3 pm to 6 pm, so got there by 5:30. They let us know that happy hour was only valid in the bar area, so found a booth near the bar to order. Our server was Zachary, and he was friendly, giving us recommendations. The best dish of taste and value was the grilled chicken wings, twelve for $16, and choice of sauces including buffalo (which is my wife's favorite). They had been grilled, imparting a slight smokey flavor and crispness to the skin. It's a great value at $1.33 per wing. We also got some truffle fries ($10), which weren't great: skin-on and in large quantity, but a bit limp (not fried well) and some truffle oil didn't add much. The big miss was the one gourmet item on the HH menu: sausage plate ($16), consisting of one small homemade sausage with some salad and a good red pepper puree. The balance was off: should have had a couple more links of that size in the plate, especially since plenty of salad and sauce were given. We also got a pint of the HH beer, a really good amber ale for $7. It went really well with the wings. As for breakfast, it's a small menu with the classics, and between the two of us, got to try the majority of the menu across the three days. Drinks: + my wife enjoyed her cappuccino ($7), espresso ($5), and coffee ($6). - got pineapple juice twice ($7) and it was fine, but was told it wasn't available on Saturday, so took the recommendation of freshly squeezed green juice ($7). I didn't like it much, being not particularly well made with the right balance of ingredients. Entrees: + Eggs Benedict ($20) - very good, with a perfectly poached duality of eggs, with canadian bacon a toasted english muffin. The hollandaise sauce was good and not too rich. It came with hash browns. + The Classic ($19) - my wife got scrambled eggs, with a really good bacon, and the toasted artisan bread was a good sour dough. + Churro French Toast ($18) - very rich, not needing sauce. It wasn't too candied with sugar though. - Waffle ($15) - bit small for $15, since it only came with syrup, and a little chocolate sauce and whipped cream. The waffle was fluffy, but that's something easily reproducible now, even at a free breakfast buffet. - Classic Omelet ($20) - got choice of 3 add-ins, so got mozzarella cheese, mushroom, and spinach. The star here was the enoki mushroom (never had that in a omelet before) , and it was great. I wish they had fresh salsa/pico, but only had hot sauce. It came with hash browns as well. - Breakfast wrap ($19) - really disappointing for the price. Sounded good, promising chorizo, but just used regular breakfast sausage. Nothing else stood out, with the potato being mushy and the avocado couldn't be tasted. And the promised salsa just ended up being a picante sauce, which was a bit too hot to use liberally. Service for breakfast was provided by Anthony on the weekdays and somebody else on the weekend. All were friendly and professional, and the weekend server was working hard considering it was quite a bit more crowded that Saturday. On the first two days, I had to request a bill so a gratuity could be added. On the third day, a full bill was given to me, with a later assurance that the amount would be removed from the room charge (which was indeed the case). read more

We were looking for an Italian restaurant in Minneapolis and decided to try Tavola at the Elliott Park Hotel. Honestly, we weren't expecting much but, we were pleasantly surprised. The meatballs and lasagna were excellent, flavorful, hearty with and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere was clean, modern, and classy, making it a great spot for both casual dinners ans special occasions. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. I don't blame the waitress for this, but it did take TWO HOURS and I didn't get half the things I asked for (ketchup, water refill, a second coffee). I spent 3 nights at The Elliot Park Hotel and had three really pleasant breakfast meals at Tavola. This was one of the best hotel breakfast experiences, as the food was really well prepared, the restaurant was very clean, and the staff was fantastic. You can't go wrong with their classic breakfast, which is 2 eggs, served with crispy salted potatoes, toast, and your choice of pork belly, bacon, or chicken apple sausage. However, the star for me was their wonderful side of fruit, as well as their unique twist on eggs Benedict. While I was there, they offered poached eggs over smoke salmon, spinach, and polenta. Someone it felt healthy and decadent at the same time...delicious. Breakfast entrees were reasonably priced ($15-$20), but coffee and juices were a tad ridiculous (~$7 each). Excellent service from Burt! Popped in for a quick dinner while staying at the Elliott Park hotel. The strip loin was good and cooked to a perfect medium rare with accompanying chimichurri and au gratin potatoes (loved the presentation, a little overly salty for my taste). A few weeks ago on a weekend we couldn't get it without a reservation so we thought it is good. Tonight, Monday we came with reservation (not needed) but got disappointed. The service was good. But kitchen a little slow. The decor was just standard hotel style. The food however was flat and not so good. The Fritto Misto was good, but my pasta bolognese missed any meat, I think I found a few crumbs of it in the dish. And to make things worse it was cold pasta. Okay, maybe warm. Definitely not where it should be. My wife ordered the mushroom pizza. She was okay with it, but I tried and did not like it. But that might have been me just not liking the sauce. I am usually NOT a fan of hotel-based restaurant food. However, Chef Matthew Plummer has definitely changed my mind with respect to this restaurant. I previously ordered the crispy calamari, and it was well seasoned and very tasty. However, he outdid himself for the Easter brunch! I have never had a prime rib so fork-tender and well- seasoned as his preparation. I also noticed his leadership in the dining room and with the service staff. This restaurant is definitely on my "return" list. Keep up the good work! read more

Recently visited Tavola for the first time and I was overall impressed with the delicious food! I was not expecting much based on the reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. Nestled inside the Elliot Park Hotel, the ambiance was beautiful with an open concept and beautiful light fixtures. It was moody with dark walls and very modern. I loved it! Pro tip - enter through the Elliot Park Hotel entrance, since the Tavola entrance is locked. I learned that the hard way! ;) We had a group of about 8 including kids. Everyone loved what they got! For an appetizer, we got the burrata and fries. The burrata was decadent with plenty of buttered focaccia bread slices. The fries were perfectly crispy and the aioli that it came with was divine. Most of us ordered the Ratolo - consisting of ricotta, spinach, and a sweet & spicy tomato agro dolce sauce. It was so delicious and better than expected. I loved the side salad and dressing as well. Overall a 10/10 meal. I also got the berry lemonade which was amazing! One of our friends ordered the mushroom pappardelle which was equally delicious. I appreciated how there were vegetarian options on the menu. We were here celebrating a couple friends' birthdays and the server surprised us with slices of a rich chocolate mousse cake. It was melt-in-your-mouth good! The reason I docked a star is because service was incredibly slow. It took a while for our server to take our orders. Additionally, our kids were starting to get fussy since it was getting late with bringing the checks. The restaurant seemed relatively empty so I wasn't sure if it was a staffing issue or otherwise. The tables were not even half filled and it still took over an hour for us to receive a classic breakfast of eggs, bacon, and toast. The waiter sat us and that was the only time we were spoken to before receiving the food. He did not offer to refill waters or check in once. We were so impressed by the warm and personable service from our hostess as well as our waiter Bart. They checked in with us throughout our meal and made our experience so special. I'm writing this almost two weeks after our visit on 11/20 because it keeps popping back up in my head. The food was amazing. We started with burrata focaccia and arrugala salad as appetizers. We got pasta dishes for our main courses. The bucatini and garganelli were both amazing. I didn't think I liked sardines, but the fresh boquerones added an incredible zest to the garganelli dish. Very disappointed. We picked this hotel because we thought we would have everything under one roof. We went to the restaurant to eat but couldn't get a table. Sent us to the bar which is fine but they never waited on us. We sat there for 20 minutes, no menu, no drinks, not even a "I will be right with you". Underwhelming We went here last night. My high-level review is disappointing and overpriced. My wife and I both started with the Old Fashioned Corleon. Heads up - this doesn't resemble a typical Old Fashioned. Much sweeter. We had the Fritto Misto as an appetizer. The calamari was hit or miss. Some was fine, some was clearly overcooked and tough. I had the Rigatoni Bolognese. They list their pasta as "homemade" and I do believe them on this, although the rigatoni was a different shape than I expected. Much more narrow than traditional rigatoni - almost a cross between rigatoni and bucatini. The noodles tasted fine. The Bolognese was average. My wife had the mushroom truffle flatbread. She thought they skimped on the mushrooms (picture attached.) We also each had a glass of wine. Total price (without tip) was $138.27. I feel that for that much money, you should get a decent dinner. We should have known better with a hotel restaurant. I guess when you have a captive audience they take advantage. Pleasant server. They use Tock for their reservation system. On the reservation they ask, "if you will you be celebrating a special occasion?" It was my birthday, so she checked that box. I'm not sure what that was supposed to do, but there was no indication in the service. I'm not really disappointed about that, but I thought I'd at least mention it. Overall, I'd say it's maybe a step up from Olive Garden. If you want Italian in downtown Minneapolis, I'd recommend Bar La Grassa but you'll want to make a reservation pretty far in advance. read more

The restaurant decor is your typical hotel restaurant decor, nothing special. Looking around it was pretty quiet so I figured service should be good and quick! Went there to celebrate a birthday with friends. The timing between our drinks and waiting for our apps took longer than expected but we were ok with that seeing that we had a lot to catch up on but then service got worse... Fried calamari/ shrimp appetizer was OK, not crispy enough and lacked flavor. Italian fries weren't crispy at all. Portion was huge so that was a waste of food. Broccolini was decent but needed salt & pepper. Brussel sprouts with bacon was probably the best side veggie dish. Pork Roulette entree was super dry and pretty tasteless which was disappointing. Mushroom Papperdelle was pretty good. The pasta was cooked well and the mushrooms were flavorful. Dessert - Flourless chocolate tart with vanilla ice cream and chocolate ice cream was good. Ice cream is from Sebastian Joes! The mixed berry panna cotta was a bit undercooked. The custard part was too thin and liquidy, not firm enough and needed to be sweeter. Overall the service was super slow for a restaurant that only had a few tables. The server was not attentive at all and the food was mediocre. We were headed to the Walker Art Center British Arrow Awards and wanted to eat nearby. I found Tavola. We had actually eaten 'here' when we used our Pub Pass at Finnegan's to order a pizza. The food then was great and we were excited to try the full menu. Service was absolutely excellent. I see some of the reviews for spotty service but this was not our experience. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Our server (Claire) was amazing. Her suggestions were perfect. She was attentive but never pushy. We even had host(s) walking the floor to ensure we were taken care of. Fantastic experience with service. Our meals were equally excellent. I opted for the salmon and a side of Parmesan mashed potatoes. Soooo good. The salmon was served with polenta, cabbage, and mushrooms. Not a mushroom fan but loved the crispness of the cabbage with the fish and polenta. Yes, I even ate the mushrooms. Husband has the sausage ravioli, equally good. I definitely had a taste. This place is located inside the Elliot Hotel and the host/ess stand is immediately to your right. It may seem at first that the restaurant is fairly small with a few booths and bar seating, but there is a dining room area you can't quite see from the host/ess stand. Our table ordered the ravioli x 2 and the Parmesan corn--and loved it! If you've never tried the ravioli, it has cheese inside and, sausage and broccolini on the outside. Flavor was great and the food came out in ~15 minutes. We ordered a gin & tonic, and their version of an old fashioned. I can't remember the other two drink orders, but I do recall all of them were great and presentation of both food and drink was on-point. Our server Jackie, who I've had the pleasure of encouraging more than once, was a gem. She was patient when we kept talking and forgot to look at the menu and still very attentive after-the-fact. While staying on the property, we had numerous occasions to frequent the restaurant and bar. Warm and welcoming staff...Coriner at the hostess station was a major highlight, as was our excellent server, Bart. The food was consistently delicious, although my avocado toast breakfast was half the serving size as the previous morning...odd, but still delicious. The creamy polenta and prawns dish was outstanding, the Italian flatbread much larger than anticipated and very good, bolognese was tasty...all quality ingredients and well prepared. The 2 dessert options could have been more exciting but not a huge miss. All seating areas offer different dining options...quieter in the dining room, more casual in the bar area. I booked a table for 6 at Tavola about 10 days in advance. We did not know or care that an Ed Sheeran concert was taking place 6 blocks from Tavola. But Tavola certainly knew and cared, so much so that they changed their entire menu for the evening, and gave us no advance notice. Thanks, Ed! They boiled the menu down to a dozen items so that they could handle the huge crowds prior to the concert. We ordered most of the sparse menu, 3 apps and 1 entree apiece. Food was good, not great, what little we had. Two of the apps never made it to the table (or to the bill, so thanks for that). I had a thick cheeseburger that was hockey-puck well-done, broiling away what ever taste it might have had. The cocktail service was slow and inept. The first beer I ordered took 30 minutes to find me. I tried to order a Gibson from the bartender, and he didn't know what it was, then declared they were only serving drinks listed only the sparse menu, which all happened to be Ed Sheeran song titles. WTF. Seemed a cruel joke. They confirmed my reservation 3 TIMES, twice by text and once by phone, yet never said a word about abbreviating the dinner menu. Even with that, the service was atrocious. Servers routinely arrived with food we didn't order and we shooed them away. Our orders finally hit the table after about 30 minutes. We spent a bit over $300 for this mess. My friends were good enough to just roll with it, but I was quite embarrassed for having organized this. read more

There's a lot to appreciate with Tavola. Their menu covers a lot of bases and it's a very clean and comfortable environment. Some of the food I've had has been really good, especially the Pici Aglione. Although you could technically call this dish "spaghetti and meatballs", they combine the ingredients and the flavors way too precisely to describe it so modestly. I'll be back for that, and probably to try some of their other items. On this visit I had the Fettuccini Carbonara, which was just okay. They serve it with peas, pork bits, and a proper egg yolk on top so you know they're not messing around about their Carbonara. I bet people who love traditional Carbonara would be more pleased with it than I was. I also got the flourless chocolate hazelnut torta which was pretty good, but not mind-blowing. Prices were higher than I'd normally spend, but I suspect that people staying in this hotel (Tavola is attached to the Elliot Park Hotel) will find it in their range. I opted for the large dinner portion and it was very filling; maybe I could have gotten the small. Also there is a happy hour menu with most of these items available at an attractive discount. And if you check in on the Yelp app, you get 10% off! I'm not sure how I got so deep into this review without emphasizing the awesome quality of the fresh pasta. Clearly served right after being made from scratch by a kitchen staff that knows what they're doing. Man I love fresh pasta. One more tip - parking at the lot directly across 11th Street from Tavola is only 2 bucks after 4pm. Or there is also street parking. read more

Service: kind of slow. I had to wait for awhile before anyone noticed I was there. Once they saw me everything went smoothly. Food: I had the liver crostini appetizer to start. The crostini has sweet caramel onions. It wasn't what I expected at all because it was sweet. It didn't taste like patè so my palate was a little confused. I followed it with a Caesar Salad, which had real anchovies and the lettuce was nice and crisp and the dressing wasn't drowning the salad. It was so refreshing. Then I had the bucatini with one meatball in a red sauce. It wasn't too much and it wasn't too little. It was just the right amount and bucatini was cooked perfectly. Overall I enjoyed my meal. Well...sigh...So much promise...and disappointment at each round... This is a restaurant in the Elliot Park Hotel has a lounge and bar area, and then further in, a restaurant space with a variety of seating, including a place for larger parties to sit comfortably. The decor is elegant, without being gaudy, and the restaurant proper has great lighting, while the lounge/bar is a bit dimmer. There was a myriad of individuals in the lounge and restaurant areas, including older adults, individuals dining alone, snacking alone, having a glass of wine while working alone, and also a mix of families, friends and celebratory combination thereof. The waitstaff were great. 5 STARS without a doubt. Knowledgable, attentive without being intrusive, and accommodating. There is also wifi access in the area. So why the 3 Stars? The reason why is...sigh...simple...the food... The ingredients are great, stellar, top notch! 4.5-5stars!!! The execution of the dishes...ohh...sooo disappointing! 1.) Ordered the 2 cheese plate and lamb tartare. The cheese was excellent. well aged smoked gouda, soft sheep milk's cheese, and accoutrements. The major disappointment was that it came with focaccia bread 5 inches thick. The focaccia was delicious, however, such an awkward vessel for eating cheese as an appetizer!!! The same went for the lamb tartare. The lamb tartare as presented was perfectly balanced with the pickled mostarda, horseradish and capers. However, it was served on top of that focaccia bread large monstrosity...the dish comes with 3 ... focaccia breads and a good portion of the lamb tartare with the toppings on each. I just wish the vessel, again, was more manageable and complimentary to the wonderful lamb. 2.) I really wanted to try the ravioli. My server told me that it was the favorite dish on the menu. "Marieke gouda, house made Italian pork sausage, broccolini, cipolini." There was a generous portion, indeed, of ravioli, in a light chicken/wine broth, with an ample amount of sausage on top of the ravioli. The thing was? It was SO. SALTY. I could only eat 1 or 1.5 ravioli at a time. The gouda inside was delish...but with the broth and sausage, it was salt on salt on salt. The sausage was...not necessary. I removed it. It was tasty sausage! It just was superfluous for the dish. I wanted acid. Fresh herbs... something fresh...basil? fresh parmesan, and put the sausage in the ravioli instead of the gouda? Maybe add some apple cider vinegar to the broth to lighten up the dish? Okay done. But the summary is this: Servers GREAT! Decor: GREAT! Ingredients: Quality! Execution of dishes: SOOO disappointing, it pulled down the review. Maybe I will try again. It is not a place I will go to frequently, unless I am needing to sit at a place where I am not the only one sitting alone with a laptop to do work. Ugh, Im giving them a 2, because I wouldnt reccomend this restaurant - primarily because the food was disappointing. Ambiance and decor was nice. It was comfortable, not overly trendy but fresh. Service was pretty good... mostly. We had an extremely nice young man, but drinks were super slow. Like, it took at least 15 minutes for a diet coke and wine. I get the cocktails were being mixed at the bar, but its a long wait for drinks that are poured. The food... the darned food. Maybe I was expecting too much? But, cmon, shouldnt I always expect delicious food?? The food lacked in flavor, finesse and anything special at all. The bread and olive oil was good and plentiful! But, the mussles were nothing to scream from a rooftop about and the burrata was good (cause burrata is always good), but wasn't the best I've had. I got the wild boar soup, because putting wild boar soup on your menu feels like a declaration of, "hey, I can really make something special out of something that sounds unappetizing." So, hakunamata right?! Well, it wasnt good at all. It needed salt and felt like all the left overs were thrown in the pot. Worst of all, the wild boar was tough and gamey. We went a week ago for my birthday. We had a reservation but they said they had to seat us in the bar which we thought was a little strange but that was alright. The apps were good, we got the calamari and burrata. My boyfriend got the NY strip and he did say he enjoyed it. I got the ravioli and it was good, quite rich. Service was only okay. The food was good, but not GREAT. Glad we tried it, but not sure it'll be a regular for us. read more

Beautiful restaurant but I'm not too crazy about the food. I ordered the Polenta Spiedini for breakfast: polenta with fontina and black truffle, topped with three grilled shrimp, black truffle, and tomato and olive jam on the side. The shrimp did not taste like they had been seasoned at all, and the polenta was a bit too creamy- the fontina did not work well with it. It almost felt like eating baby food. Fortunately, the tomato and olive jam broke up the creamy monotony and made the dish more palatable. The restaurant has a decent assortment of teas, and I was able to have my cup of English Breakfast (with a splash of soy milk... no almond milk available) to help start my morning off right. read more

Contrary to other's experiences I was fine with everything at Tavola. I had the Caesar sans anchovies and the calamari. Could the Caesar have used a bit more flavor in the dressing? Yes, but also, I didn't get the anchovies so that may have been key. The calamari was served with broccoli not broccolini, but honestly, this is a hotel restaurant so it wasn't a biggie. Attentive bartender, food came out fast and fresh. So if you're staying here I wouldn't hesitate to send you to the restaurant. read more

Tavola is connected to the Elliot Park Hotel and boasts a bar, big beautiful dining room, fresh pasta made in-house... and currently a 10% off Yelp Check In offer! During my last visit here, in summary, the food was excellent but the service was lacking. There was only one other table in the dining room, but it took 40 minutes for our server to come take our entree orders. And we had empty water glasses that needed filling. Thankfully, the food itself totally redeemed the slow service that night. I recommend sharing the grilled & marinated artichokes. The marinated almonds and preserved lemon elevate this appetizer to a whole other level! And pro tip: per usual, I also recommend splitting entrees with a friend so you can try different dishes... it will be hard to choose just one! I tried the pici pasta with a meatball and the fettuccine carbonara. The pici pasta (fancy spaghetti) has THE perfect consistency. Nothing beats fresh, chewy pasta... and an oversized meatball. The fettuccine carbonara was luxurious! So rich and creamy, I could NOT stop eating it even though I was so very full. Very very full. Absolutely unstoppable. read more
