I've gone here in the past and usually the service is decent and prices are good. About a month ago i went and the masseuse walked in on me unannounced while I was undressing and left the door wide open like it was normal. Today my son went and had a horrible foot reflexology massage. He said the masseuse spent more time on one side of his body than the other. The lady barely massaged his scalp. He said it was so gentle it felt like a tickle. When everything was done she tried to force him to leave a 25% tip and were giggling about something which made him feel even more awkward and upset. The massage therapist walked in on me changing, didn't knock. I then had to ask her to completely shut the door. The foot massage was basically just her playing with my toes. On top of this I could hear the owner/front desk person the entire time talking to the workers and his phone conversation with a family member, I basically know everything about him. I didn't get a silence until the last 10 minutes of my 70 minute service. I also told the man in the front about my experience and that I could hear him the whole time, and his only response was "well don't take it out on her" I still paid full price. I came here for a last minute foot reflexology massage and it was amazing! I kept falling asleep from how relaxing it was and I was surprised at how reasonable the price was for what I got. I am 9 months pregnant and they helped my body relax from everything it's been through. I decided to try this place as I was visiting family in the area. I was not really expecting to much as most massage places in San Diego are not very good or leave a lot to be desired. I was impressed with this place and they took me in really quickly for a walk in. The lady I had was very good. She was very firm but not to the point it hurt. A majority of the places I have been to are to soft for me. This lady was perfect. The place is clean and the staff is very friendly. When I was leaving, the waiting room was filling up and the phone lines were busy. A good sign. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

I have been here twice. First time was a gift, so the gift-er paid. Just before signing the bill, the man at the front desk pointed to the "recommended" tip per service, and the gift-er felt totally pressured into obliging. Second time, since I was paying and knew what was coming, I tipped 20% to the masseuse. Both the female and male owners at the front desk quickly pointed to the "recommended" tip sign, and I had to firmly reply that I tip 20% on massage services. Massages were ok, as the massage therapists do put in effort; however, it seems the training backgrounds/pedigrees of some therapists may be questionable. Ambiance is noisy-strip-mall outside and thin walls inside. Expect to hear the owners' conversations at the front desk. The price was right given these factors; however, if the owners want the masseuses to earn more, they should actually pay them more instead of strong-arming the customer at check-out. This place was alright. My cousin and I had the 60 min foot massage where it includes arm,hand, leg and back massage for $45. The room they put us in was right in front of the main window of the business which is the view of the Parking and you can hear people from the outside. If you get a body massage then you will get a nice dark private room. Now, back to the room we were in the room didn't have a door just drapes so if you're Okay with background noise such as hearing the front desk taking appointments and okay with hearing the rattling of the ac then it's worth $45. I have now been coming to Zen Heart for several years and I won't go anywhere else. My body thanks me! I was SO happy that they made it through the shut down. I know it wasn't easy. I adore Andrea, the Owner. She is a genuinely wonderful person. I prefer to frequent a local business where they care all the way around from the Therapist to the Customer. I have found that the best massages are when I communicate the areas of my body needing the most work and they get it every time. I like the location and the prices. A cozy little nook with great people. As far as tips go, these gals work hard 6 days a week and a tip is my show of appreciation. Heavenly massage! I walked in looking to get a Full Body Massage & nothing was available. Fortunately, the owner, Andrea, said she could take me in! How awesome is that?! The bed was super comfy & I instantly felt relaxed as I listened to nature sounds in the background. Andrea knew exactly what type of pressure to use with me. She relieved the tension areas in my neck, shoulders, & back. I was happily surprised when she used hot stones (usually hot stones are extra at most massage places) & they felt wonderful. She gave me the best face massage I have ever had & relieved the tension I did not even know I had. She ended the massage with a couple of stretches & oh did I feel relaxed I did not even want to get up! Five stars is not enough to give! We have been going to Zen Heart for years and it is worth every penny! Some may find the thinner walls a little distracting, but I'm always put in a trance when they start on me, so it's something I don't mind so much and my husband almost always falls asleep :D I previously have gotten $200 massages and honestly, I prefer the ladies at Zen Heart for a much more affordable experience. We usually do not have an issue booking an appointment the same day. Vaughn and his wife are the nicest people and they know their guests by name. So I'll start with the positives, The massage felt fantastic! My body truly truly felt so much better after. The employees were very friendly and polite. However the location is just awful. It's the reason I docked 2 stars.. it's that bad. It's right next to a bar in the very back of a small shopping plaza and when I say you can hear everything that's going on outside I'm not kidding.. the first part of my massage was in a room right by the parking lot facing window and there was a group of bar patrons outside the window smoking and being VERY loud.. it made it impossible to enjoy my massage.. I know that's not the massage therapists fault but it was frustrating to say the least. After I went to a second room it was slightly better but just be warned the walls are paper thin and you can hear the other employees and anyone else coming in for a massage.. I won't return simply because of the location, it just really took away from the "massage" experience for me. :( read more

She used the perfect amount of pressure to try and open the tight knots and muscles on my shoulders and legs. They also use hot stone at this place which is included in your massage. I've been going here off and on for a few years, but I think I'm ready to find a new place. It's kinda a crapshoot which masseuse you get how good your massage is. I brought my friend with me and she had the lady I usually have and love! Her massage was awesome. When I went with my friend the room was really cold and the floor was dirty. On the table looking down was a stain, maybe oil & dirt, on the floor and wrapped up electrical cords, it was a distracting eyesore. Overall it just wasn't the best massage, I wanted to tip $8 instead of the recommended $10 and the man at the front desk guilted/embarrassed me into the full amount. This was after I tried to let him know about the floor which he basically told me I was wrong, but he'd remedy it. I woke up the next day very sore and uncomfortable. Not normal for a Swedish massage with medium to light pressure. There are plenty of massage parlors in the area with warmer, darker rooms and friendlier service. read more

I went to this place for the last 3+ years and was just treated in the worse way imaginable. Suzy, who provided me with my massage, used her forearm the whole time and barely tried to incorporate other techniques. It was one of the least enjoyable massage I've received from someone at Zen Heart. I wasn't going to tip her. I was checking out and said the experience was alright. I tried to play it cool because she was standing right there and I didn't want to hurt her feelings. Who knows, maybe she was tired. I added a $3 tip and that's when the owner arrogantly asked "you're giving her 3 dollars?". Then he started to argue with me and I felt forced to say "well maybe it wasn't that good". Then he dares to keep arguing with me and blaming me by saying "well I asked you if it was good". It's when he stood up that I felt unsafe. He's a very agressive, immature, and short tempered man. I've never had him treat me like this. He comes off as a soft spoken, sweet man but it's clear it's just an act. I made sure he knew I'm never coming back. My heart is pounding in my chest because of how scary that was. Never again. I work customer service and never have I ever treated anyone like this nor would I have my job if I did. I feel seriously betrayed, Yelpers. I have never been steered so wrong as on this place. My wife and I went for an hour massage and the best thing I can say about it is that it actually was an hour massage. When we were done, my wife and I compared notes and found the exact same issues. I very seriously doubt my lady has any training to be a masseuse at all. Mine spent almost the entire time on my back, which might be okay, except she was not skilled whatsoever and used almost no oil. She did not look for or work out any knots, knew nothing of deep tissue massage, and did not do my neck at all. Not even a little bit. As I am writing this my neck hurts worse than it did when I went in and I am probably going to go down to PB to get an actual masseuse to work the kinks out (if I can get in, which I probably can't because they are awesome.) I don't really like a weak masseuse, but I would take a weak one who knows what she's doing before a strong one who doesn't have a clue. INCREDIBLE! I have been to many of these types of massage parlors and other spots can be dark, dirty, or just difficult to have a good experience with due to lack of communication understanding. However, Zen Heart Massage was incredible. $50 for a combo massage (45 minute reflexology and 30 minute individual room massage) is a steal. The woman who gave me both of my massages was great. Worked every muscle in my body. The younger gentleman at the front was also very sweet. Lastly, I have never been to such a clean massage parlor, especially of this caliber. Last time I was in they started my massage 15 minutes late, while yelling and arguing outside my door. I also ordered hot stones and she only used them on my back and did not know what she was doing. For an Asian massage/reflexology place, and for the price, this is definitely as good as it gets. I get a LOT of massages (20+/yr) and whenever I'm in town to visit my parents, I try to hit up Zen Heart Massage. Pros: * they take walk-ins * affordable prices: I love the combos. When I was home for Christmas, my brother and I walked in one morning and got the 75 min combo (30min table massage and 45min foot massage) for $50 each * They renovated so foot massages are either done in the private rooms, or in the double room with a friend - no more large room (I didn't personally care but I know it matters to some people) * This month I got a massage from Lisa. Her table massage was superb. This is not a gentle relaxing rubdown - this is a climb-on-the-table-and-work-out-the-knots-in-your-back lady. Unlike some other reflexology places though, she actually concentrated on knots she found and paid attention to spots that needed it, rather than going through the motions. My back felt like pounded jelly in a good way * The foot reflexology session is more like a full body clothed massage (as is typical of reflexology sessions). You get a great face/scalp massage, arm/leg massage, etc while your feet soak in hot water. Cons: * The blankets/sheets are thin and obviously not luxury spa quality - but who cares when your massage is that great. You're not here to pay $$$$ and feel posh. * If you don't speak Mandarin, communication can be a bit more difficult, but just say "more" or "less" as needed. Short efficient communication is best. * The therapists aren't going to gently pull a sheet over you, or lovingly place your arm in the right spot. They're not rough either, but they are definitely no-nonsense which may throw you off if you're used to being handled like a glass flower. I don't care - too busy drooling in slightly pained bliss as the knots get vigorously rubbed out of me. I still found the workers to be nice and polite. I heart Zen Heart Massage! Working at the salon next door, I was extremely excited to see a massage place coming so close. I work hard and my stylist friends and I are always complaining about back/neck problems. I couldn't wait to try this place out! I had a quick break between clients and I thought I would start out with the $15 dollar chair massage. Michael (the massage therapist) sat me down in the chair and started to work on my neck, back and shoulders. Man is he strong! I had to ask him to lower the pressure, because I am known for being a big baby, and don't really like it too hard. After about 20 minutes of heaven, I was done and returned to work feeling refreshed ad ready to finish my day. Next up I wanted to try out the hour long foot massage. I didn't want to do this when having to return to work, because massages make me spacy, so I scheduled for after. I walked in and was directed to one of the lounge massage chairs in the front. I have heard people complain that it is right out in the open, but this is very typical of a lot of the chinese reflexology places, so it didn't bother me. I had the most relaxing hour long reflexology treatment. And let me tell you, they don't skimp on anything. It was A-MA-ZING. Even though it is stated it is a foot massage, they pay every bit of detail to your entire body. For $25!!! They even gave me tea afterwards. Very refreshing. I left there in the clouds and can not wait to do it again.... They have great hours if you are a mid-day person or a later night person. The people who own it are very kind and have put a lot of hard work into their business. Parking is great and you can't beat their prices. The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is because I think its important to do a small consultation with a client to make sure you have no ailments. Maybe a form or customer file to fill out or something. Also english is not a first language so sometimes communicating is hard, but considering its a chinese massage place, thats kinda par for the course. And I would move the front desk stuff maybe in another area since the phone ringing can be disarming when you are mid massage. Other than that, its great and I plan on returning many times. I have only gotten the $30/1 hour reflexology. I WOULD FOR SURE ASK FOR THIS OVER ANYTHING... PROS: -The staff is amazing and friendly! They actually listen to your wants and needs and don't make you feel guilty if you need to cancel last minute and have taken me early too. -They bring you tea afterwards and always make sure you were well taken care of. -(I saw other reviews on here and asked for susan and for sure will stick with her, she is amazing.) -They say 1 hour foot reflexology but really they massage your whole body with your clothes and even soak your feet! I would say they spend 30 minutes on your feet and it's AMAZING! Then they massage the rest of your body and even have you flip over and massage the back of you! All for just $30! That's only $36 with tip for a great full body massage practically! -Susan doesn't ask you to take your jewelry off. I love that! Some things are really sentimental. CONS: -If you go in and get the $30 1 hour reflexology you don't get sat in a room. There are open beds and you can hear and see people walk in and out and the person at the front desk. They only have this shade thing blocking it. -Also if they leave the door open it can be loud even when it's closed because it's next to a hair place and a bar. When the door is open sometimes you can smell cigarette smoke. (I asked them to close the door and they did.) Honestly the first time I went here I was hesitant because of the open beds and the location but you get used to it and just lose yourself in the massage plus you can't beat a $30 massage! *As for the guy at the front desk that everyone is complaining about. He is very very nice. Whoever is at that desk can be a little loud whether they are in the chair, opening up something, or answering the phone no matter who they are. You're gonna hear everything considering there is no wall between you. I agree it sucks but that's just how the place is set up. You just have to zone it out.
