I have lived in St Mary's county for almost 4 years and finally thought I found a nail salon home. i loved getting my nails done here until recently when I feel like I was over charged for a full set of nails for my 15 yo daughter and I. she got designs as well as I and was $170. I said I know you're kidding because I have never ever paid this much for nail service. He said he would take off $20 but only took off $10. I paid and left and they lost a customer. I'm leaving this review because my other daughter went to this salon yesterday and was over charged as well smh!! i wish I had known because she wouldnt have gone. I have been going to Zen for quite awhile and haven't had many issues--until today. My full set was done by Henry (Michelle was out of town.) I called and showed up on time for my appointment. I was told where to sit. I told him I had another appointment to get to in 45 minutes. I sat there waiting for over 15 minutes before he came back. I told him EXACTLY what I wanted-- short, round, natural, no colour. During his rush job, I got pink bonding powder, long and pointy. He filed my nails in such a way, NONE of them were even, plus he cut the side of my thumb by filing so hard. When I got home I had to apply Neosporin and a band aid to the cut. I also had to file them myself. Had I not had my next appointment I would have stayed and pointed out EVERYTHING he did wrong. I should have gotten up and left, but I just paid the out ragious price without any tip, and got the hell out. Even though I like Michelle, I will be looking for some other nail salon, b/c I WILL NOT be returning, neither will my 2 daughters and hubby. Henry is AMAZING! I've been an "acrylic only" user for over 30 years. After 1 appointment he has converted me to "to and dip". The other staff are very nice and eager to make you comfortable. New file packs are opened for each person which is a HUGE plus! I was a walk-in and waited about 5 minutes before beginning a full set and pedicure. The salon is bright, welcoming and clean! Me and my mom came in to get a gel fill and the price was $35 we were waiting for about 15-30 to be seen the man doing acrylics was working on 2 other customers. When we where finally serviced he did our acrylics (fill) both hands (me and my moms sets ) within 20min when I tell you he did it so fast it honestly felt RUSHED when I that night when I went to take a shower I looked at my nails and noticed 2 of my fingers looked weird so I started looking up close and I had a bubble on both nails so I tore the gel off to see the problem he didn't put any acrylic to fix the sides of my nails with the original acrylic was lifted so the gel polish sat on my natural nail with no acrylic was made to gel not stick now I have to go back and get it fixed read more

I go to get my toes done about once a month and received a gift card to Zen nail spa so I decided to try it out. Everyone is very nice and they do a good job with the massage, nail filing and callus removal however, they use regular makeup and paint brushes to apply the nail polish. It looked very messy afterwards and a few nails had the polish peeling off within the next 3 days. I will not go back again. read more

My daughter and I had basic mani/pedi's at $40 each. Daughter had gel polish on fingers and toes and was charged an additional $50 for the polish! A total charge for her of $90. She expected an up charge of 10 -20 dollars, but 50 is crazy. When she questioned the charge, they gave her a coupon for 10 off a future service..we won't be going back. They lost 2 customers over a ridiculous polish charge. read more

Pros: hard working staff, very meticulous, and amazing waxing!! You can tell the owners really care about this place and the customers. It's apparent they are enthusiastically building their business with the new name. Cons: I'm so sad to only give them three stars because they were so nice, but I did have few concerns. They were very slow. This was good because they were incredibly meticulous, but sometimes you just can't budget time for three hours for a mani/pedi and a wax. They also really pushed the powder nails instead of a gel (shellac) manicure and I tried it. While very pretty, they didn't even last one week. He did say, you can come back within a 10-day timeframe for a re-polish if anything chips, but I don't have time for that. Just stick with gel and you should be good. read more

Went here because I heard good things but it was just "ok" and expensive.. nothing special..... AT ALL! My fill in was super rushed and sloppy. My pedicure was good but I had to ask for them to put hot water 3 times. Everyone in there getting a pedi had to ask for the water to either be cooled down or warmer. The guy doing my fill in was running all over the place and doing two peoples nails at once. I DO NOT recommend going to this place AT ALL. I wouldn't send my worst enemy here. I went in for the first time here on Thursday to get a mani/pedi in preparation for a wedding I was in this weekend and a trip I'm going on next week. I was in the store for over two hours and there weren't more than five other customers that were in there during that time. I have NEVER had a mani/pedi take that long. While doing my mani, the lady cut my finger open, said "I'm sorry honey." and continued on with the mani like it was no big deal. Other employees even walked over to see how bad it was, but no one did anything. It continued to bleed the entire rest of the time I was there. I had to ask her multiple times to re-file my nails because none of them were even. Some were round and some were square while others were random shapes. By the third time of asking her, I wasn't pleased, but was tired of fighting and TIRED OF BEING IN THIS SALON SO LONG. When she finally got to putting the gel on, it was the sloppiest job I had ever seen. Some layers had too much gel and were lumpy and bubbly, and there was dried gel all over my skin. When I got to the counter, I was told the price of the mani would be $30 and then another employee came up, spoke in their language, and changed it to $35. I was confused as to why such a poor and STINKING LONG manicure cost so much, ESPECIALLY AFTER I WAS CUT OPEN AND BLEEDING THE WHOLE VISIT. NO PRICE CUT OR ANYTHING SO CONFUSED AT THAT ONE. I paid it because like I previously stated, I AM IN A WEDDING THIS WEEKEND AND HAVE OTHER PLACES TO BE AFTER WASTING TWO HOURS OF MY LIFE IN HERE and clearly had to leave. I will be 100% honest, I did not leave a tip. I have never done that in my life. I understand the importance of tipping and understand that everybody has a bad day, but this place was pure bad business. Furthermore, I was stared down my entire visit while it felt as though the employees were talking about me in their language. I felt uncomfortable the entire time and it couldn't end fast enough. I could possibly take any given one of the problems that occurred in this visit by themselves, but combined, I was BEYOND irritated at my visit, thus resulting in me not tipping. I have never had such bad service and dealt with such rude employees. I left the store beyond upset at my time and money wasted and not even having a good mani to show for it. My hands looked AWFUL. I will say my pedicure didn't look bad, but I wouldn't say I was satisfied with my overall experience. Last night I decided to go ask for my money back since the wedding was over and I finally had a free moment to go back and talk to them. I went in, quietly explained I wanted to talk to the manager or owner, told them what happened and said that I simply would like my money back. He asked to see my finger where they cut me and told me "Oh no honey that's just a hangnail." IT. WAS. NOT. She straight up cut a chunk out of my skin when attempting to cut my cuticles. I told him it wasn't true and that even if you forgot the fact that I was cut and bleeding the whole time, the manicure looked horrible and I would have to get them redone before my trip. He started yelling at me and going off and saying I was making stuff up, changing my story, accusing him of being bad at nails after doing this for 22 years when all I did was ask for my money back. I was heated so at this point I started yelling back because you don't yell at me first and me just not say anything. He told me he couldn't give me my money back and I told him I didn't see that anywhere on the door or written anywhere in store. He said "It's not. It's a policy I made up just now. I don't give money back to rude customers." I work in customer service. I understand what dealing with people is like. BECAUSE OF THIS, I DID NOT GET RUDE FIRST. HE STARTED IT. I was very aware of there being other customers in the store and didn't want to cause a scene in front of them, but once he started yelling, I yelled back. At the end of the shouting match, he told me he wouldn't let the same lady do my nails, but that he would personally fix them for free so I would leave satisfied. I did not want to get my nails redone here after the experience I had, but I hesitantly let him do it because EITHER WAY I would have to get them fixed somewhere and I might as well get what I could for free and see if it was decent. I didn't love it. The paint is still sloppy and my nails are unevenly filed once again. I could have done a better job filing them. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND GOING HERE. This was my first AND LAST time going to Zen Nails. Please. Save yourself the time and money and go somewhere else. My finger is swollen and still trying to heal and I'm just praying infection doesn't set in. read more

I went on a Monday at 10:30. There was only one client in there at the time so I was waited on right away. Within a few minutes, another client came in for a pedicure, followed by two others for pedicures, followed by two others for both manicures and pedicures. There were only two employees, I was there for over an hour and no other employees came in during that time. The pedicure was just okay - I had been going to Diamond nails (the previous owners) for years and had come to expect really smooth feet when they finished doing their thing. Zen nails did a quick "removal" (like what I could do at home) without any lotion whatsoever and my feet were still a little on the rough side. I moved on a manicure and redid them the minute I got home. I swear it's the worst manicure I've ever had. I seldom have time for myself and basic things like my hands and nails take a back seat to caring for three family members at three separate locations. My nails were really uneven and different lengths. Zen nails did not cut them so they were the same length, barely used an emery board and left them uneven and unshaped. They didn't even use lotion like I had become used to by Diamond Nails even though it was sitting right there. Guess they charge extra for that too. Make your own decisions, but I won't be back especially since there are nail places on every corner of Southern Maryland now. read more

Worst manicure experience. Came in while my fiance was at the barber right next door. Just to get a regular polish manicure. I was rushed to pick a color... rushed through the whole manicure process to the point I was about to just get up and walk out because the Polish was worse than I'd have done to myself at home.... no lotion or anything... after he put the last bit of Polish on he just said "go sit over there " where my nails would dry; I presumed, so I did and when I asked if he could turn the lamps on for this purpose he huffed and puffed because a couple had come in to get pedicures and I was now a burden... the Polish is horrible.... it's rough and my nails are not even shaped evenly nor straight ... will never come back ....glad I didn't spend more than I had there. read more

I think I have found my go to place for manicures. Stopped by when they weren't busy. I immediately liked the serenity of the place. The TV was on but no sound. The nail technician was pleasant, attentive, professional, and did my nails the way I like them. It's been a week and my nail polish hasn't chipped and my cuticles haven't split. My visit at Zen nail spa had me feeling extremely uncomfortable throughout the duration of my time spent there. I came in for a classic mani/pedi. The pedicure was sub par, but the attitude of the workers really had me put off. Not only did they admit to talking about me in their language to my face nonchalant, but decided to make fun of gay customers. In customer service, you keep your opinions to yourself. During the manicure, I accidentally hit my nail on the fan during the drying process. Instead of repainting the nail, the man shrugged his shoulders, put on the top coat, and acted like it never happened. I will not be bringing my buisness to Zen Nails again. read more

I started out with a pedicure, which was fine. I then asked for a French Gel manicure. The woman doing my nails had no experience doing a French manicure and completely botched the manicure. Finally a women with more experience stepped in to try to fix them. My nails were still not acceptable when I left but I was there for almost 3 hours and needed to leave by that point. I stopped in for a manicure a few months ago...I had stopped using the powder and gel to give my nails a break as the were very thin and brittle and had almost grown out all the damaged nail...The owner ( sorry don't know his name) was in a hurry because they were quite busy that day and instead of lightly buffing my nails he used a drill. I questioned if this would damage my nails and he said no he was just cleaning them up....I admit they did look good when I left...but now I have a line across my nails and more damage to grow out ...I've learned my lesson and If I cant go to my regular girl ( who doesn't buff my nails) I tell the tech up front no buffing. Horrible horrible horrible. Oh Jesus my nails look horrible. They are crooked and some are waayyyy longer than others. I can't say that it was a cheap place because it cost $50 for this set from hell. My fingers and skin around it is so sore. It's not just me. My friend and I went together and she has the same issue. I showed him the longer nail and he's like oh you like. I had the oh no he didn't face and just wanted it to end. I just wanted him to hurry up so I could go home and fix them myself. I have been doing my own nails myself for a while for this very same reason. I'm untrained and I do an 1000% better job then this set. Today was my third visit, and I was really hoping for a good experience. My previous two were ok. My nails were growing and really looked good. I always felt the service was rushed and could have been much better. This time, since my nails had really grown out and were looking beautiful, I wanted them cut down by half, which would leave a nice bit of nail beyond my fingertips, but not so long that they would risk breaking (I had just broken a nail down to the edge of my skin). So the guy cuts my nails down and they looked great. We took off the old gel, I did the soak, but right when he's about to start shaping, he whips out the clippers and before I could say a word, he'd cut all my nails off! Literally - OFF! I'm crushed. I'm going away on Sunday for a short trip and I wanted my nails lovely. I just can't believe he did that. Why Why Why??? The finished french looks, pretty, but my hands don't. My nails are short, my fingertip skin is showing! That's how short they are. OMG I'm just in shock. read more
