Came here for lunch and sat immediately. Only one waiter for entire place but he was quick and attentive. Ordered eel and yellowtail rolls. After a short ten minute wait the food was on the table with extra sides of eel sauce and spicy mayo. The sushi were sliced thick and tasted fresh. Dipped a few timed into the wasabi to add a nice kick. The gender assigned bathroom was clean with gray wall and floor tiles and a private stall. Once greeted by the hostess, I was quickly taken to my seat at an available table. After browsing the menu, I placed my order for a cup of hot green tea and wonton soup. The wonton soup was truly enjoyable, consisting of tender chicken pieces, tasty chicken dumplings, bean sprouts, and scallions, all in a rich, flavorful broth. The green tea was hot and soothing. I had no intention of drinking, but I decided to order a lychee martini just because I felt like it. I could smell the aroma of the lychee fruit as the drink was placed in front of me. The drink was sweet and had a strong taste of vodka, but it was delicious nonetheless. While sipping on my drink, I awaited my order of Naruto Maki cucumber wrap. Fresh imitation krab and avocado wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber provided a refreshing crispness that was quite enjoyable. The cucumber wrap was served on a bed of salad with a side of sweet miso sauce for dipping. Well, that does it for me; I am full. Food was freshly prepared and was delightful, drinks was tasty, and service was satisfactory. The prices are moderate, but are worth it for the quality and quantity provided. We checked their website on Saturday and it says Happy Hour daily from 3-6. We got there at 5 and were seated. When we asked for the happy hour menu, we were told happy hour is M-F only. When we told the waitress what their website says, she just shrugged her shoulder. So I don't think we will go back to Zen any time soon. read more

Came recently to meet a friend who was visiting from out of town. It was a Monday, 6:30pm, and noticed they had HH specials at the bar until 7pm, so sat there. Immediately I was brought a menu, and was told about the HH deal, including some bites. We started with the edamame and the pork gyozas, plus drinks. We kept talking, without noticing the time, and our server was really nice asking us if we would like one more drink before HH was over so we could take advantage of the deal. After this, she kept checking up on us but at no point rushing us to place any other order. When we were ready we placed our meal orders. We loved the gyozas so my friend had a roll and a second serving of them as her meal. for some reason her sushi took a while, longer than my hot meal, but at the end it was delivered and she enjoyed it. I went with the Massaman Curry. Big portion, with a side of white rice. The chicken was tender, and the curry itself was delicious. Wish it had a bit of kick to it, but maybe good that way for more people to order it and add spice on the side. I have seen mixed reviews for this restaurant, but if I had not seen those reviews and after eating there, I would totally disagree. When I arrived at the restaurant around 6:45 PM, I noticed that there were people eating at the bar which is open to the sidewalk. On the inside of the restaurant, you can observe the sushi chefs, as well as the opening to the Kitchen. We ordered various types of hand rolls, as well as the sashimi appetizer. To our surprise, everything was extremely fresh and delicious and the salmon melted in my mouth. I also ordered the Beef Chow Fun which was amazing. To complete the meal, I ordered Thai Donuts (a must have). The restaurant prices were not bad and the service by our waiter Justin was great. He kept checking to make sure everything was okay and refilled our water glasses without having to be asked. This restaurant in West Boca is a really nice place for a great meal. read more

Made a reservation for a Thursday night and the place wasn't that busy. I had pretty high expectations for a new sushi place in boca but I was pretty disappointed. The service and the restaurant itself would be a 5 stars but the food was more of a 3. The staff were all very nice and accommodating. The decor was trendy and clean but the food lacked. I ordered a sushi set with teriyaki steak and miso soup. The only good thing was the miso soup. The sashimi had a pretty weird flavor and I was not a fan. The only thing that tasted okay was the raw salmon. The teriyaki steak was awful. It was completely dry and over cooked. Would not recommend. The people I was with ordered ramen that they said was good and fried rice which I tasted and was excellent. It seems like the cooked food is a hit or miss and the sushi is an absolute miss. Got together with a group of 6 friends to go and see a show and our first choice was closed on Sundays so we decided to grab a bite first at Zen. The atmosphere is not what you would typically think of for sushi, it's not a quiet intimate cozy little date spot, it's big and bright, loud and well lit, big windows and an open kitchen with heavy wooden furniture. That's not necessarily good nor bad, just what it is. Between the 8 of us we tried about a dozen different things but I only got pics from my side of the table. Specialty cocktails were super tasty and definitely spirit forward. The beef yukke was spicy and delicious, but looked a little too much like the raw beef it is for most of my table-mates. More for me! I got 2 rolls. The Sushi Bomb, and the Zen roll, cuz if you're confident enough to name your own roll, I'm gonna give it a shot! The sushi bomb was not bad, but it's just a roll, anything I could get anywhere. The Zen roll was great though. Tuna, hamachi, and squid, each strong enough to hold their own against the others, and a Japanese pickle? Yes!!! A sushi boat looked beautiful but most of the rolls coming out last night were just okay, and quite a few looked as if they had been made in a hurry. Sadly, the service was nowhere near as good as the food. Drinks arrived late, food came out piecemeal, and trying to split checks was a nightmare that had each of double and triple checking. One of our party has ordered takeout from here before and proclaimed it great, but after dining in, I'm gonna lower that to "okay." If it's a Sunday night and this is where you happen to be, go ahead, it's definitely not bed, but... There are better sushi options in town, take the extra time to find them. read more

We recently had dinner at Zen Sushi, located in the Uptown Boca Shopping Center out in West Boca. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The restaurant has a modern and fresh look. There's outdoor seating which was great since we had beautifully breezy weather on the night we ate there. There was also an impressive open-air bar that added to the ambiance. The service was fast and pleasant and the food arrived quickly to the point that we were pretty impressed with the kitchen staff's skills. We ordered a variety of sushi rolls along with a fried rice and Udon dish for 2 of my kids. Most of the sushi rolls were decent enough, not mind blowing and not awful for the most part. I was however disappointed with the salmon hand rolls as they had a noticeably fishy taste that didn't sit well with me. The noodle dishes and the fried rice were sizable portions, but were pretty average quality to my taste and didn't particularly stand out. Pricing was definitely on the high side. The bill, including the food, drinks and tip came to well over $200 and I didn't feel like we had a magnificent feast or anything extraordinary. As I said, service and ambiance were very nice but the food was just fair, so that bill stung a bit. Considering all these factors, I would give Zen Sushi 3 stars. Its a nice enough place, but the high prices and mixed quality make it difficult for me to enthusiastically recommend it. Personally, I would probably not come back, but I'm sure that there are plenty of people out there who would think this place is great. Could be worth a look! read more

Their version of a Moscow Mule and Shrimp Shumai. The shumai came 6 to the order. They were light, bite sized dumplings and so full of flavor. We liked it so much we ordered a 2nd. This turned out to be an unexpected find. We'd gone to two other Asian restaurants before this one -- only to find they were either closed for lunch or doing take out solely. This relatively new place -- open about 3 months -- was clean and airy/spacious and hit all the right notes. We were greeted and seated right away. They have booths and tables plus the sushi bar -- and a full cocktail bar. They had a lunch/specials of the day featured print out plus their regular menu. But in the back of the regular menu are their lunch boxes -- and these are the best deal. They also all include your choice of salad or soup. We both opted for the salad. My husband got a lunch box that included sushi, sashimi, sunomono (with crab, clam, octopus, and shrimp),two pieces of a roll, and even orange slices for dessert. It was beautifully presented, so fresh, and an amazing bargain price wise. I got their steak teriyaki and shrimp tempura lunch bento box. It had 4 slices of beef with teriyaki sauce on top of cabbage and carrots; shrimp tempura was two pieces of shrimp, and 4 veggie pieces -- all in a tempura batter. The dipping sauce was served along side. There was also a gyoza (pot sticker/dumpling) and a mound of white rice in the box. For dessert, I tried their green tea ice cream. It was quite good. We both liked our meals -- especially my husband -- and said we would certainly come back here again. There are a lot more things to try on their regular menu, too. read more

Absolutely horrible. The teriyaki dishes look and taste awful. They use this white iceberg lettuce, which is not tasty. The chicken and beef teriyaki were cold upon eating. The tempura is actually OK. The sushi. Looks like it was premade. Some of it comes wrapped in plastic? Too many sushi places in Boca then to go back to this one. Someone at my dentist office worked here with her husband so I decided to grab a friend and come to this place for Happy Hour one night when she was working. We sat outside at the bar and it was beautiful outside so it was a nice touch to our night out. The place is beautifully decorated and the staff is beyond friendly. Our bartender was the out of this world Brian and Marcello, Brian offered to make any drink so I tested him with a gin drink I love with muddled cucumber and he nailed it. We were gifted with tuna tartare and started making our HH order. Salmon roll which is fried, Spicy Tuna Roll which was delicious, and the Shrimp Shumai which was definitely my favorite!
