Tucked away under Pikes place, Zig Zag makes you feel like you are not in Seattle but rather somewhere in France - Intimate ambiance, wonderful cocktails and good service. We had the deviled eggs (there were four of us and the appetizer only came w/3 deviled eggs but the chef gave us 6 deviled eggs - very generous), burrata (fresh and creamy), and the jalapeño hush puppies were delicious. I was torn between the burger, I saw it come out from the kitchen and it looked amazing - even our waiter said it's one of the better burgers in Seattle - but I went with the lamb loin which you can't always order in Seattle and it was the right choice. We were trying to kill time around Pike Place and wanted to get some happy hour oysters. We saw that this place had good reviews so decided to stop by. I ordered the Monet ($16), which has gin, elderflower, dry vermouth, lemon, and grapefruit bitters. Turns out that the happy hour oysters were baked so we got the half dozen raw oysters ($19) off their regular menu instead. I don't know if Seattle oysters in general just hit different or what, but these were probably some of the best oysters I've had. You can definitely taste the freshness, and even though they taste great with the lemon juice and mignonette, you don't really need them at all. I ate my second oyster just as it was without the condiments and it tasted so fresh. Unfortunately I haven't had any other oysters during my visit to Seattle, so these oysters are the only ones I can base my opinion on. Service was quick and we were in and out in about 30 minutes. Very nice place to just grab a quick drink and some bites while enjoying the fresh air right before the sun sets. read more

A historical speakeasy feel without the password. Dim lights, candles burning, and a red hue; both relaxing and romantic. 5 stars for the Seattle vibes here at Zig Zag. It's an out of the way pocket oasis. The jazz is jamming and our waitress is so efficient! The oysters are good and not that briny. What a lovely place that is Zig Zag Cafe. Solo dining and sat at the bar, where I had Ricky as my bartender (who was super awesome)! To my luck, I happened to come on during a live jazz night and I had an amazing time. I got the Zig Zag Burger and the Twilight in Boston cocktail and there were both delicious. Love the hint of coffee in the drink and the burger was so big! I had nice conversations with my bar stranger and the jazz in the background really made the vibes nice. Solo dining and sat at the bar for whiskey cocktails and delicious, fresh oysters. Service was great - bartenders and hostess all professional and welcoming. Had two drinks: Barry Bluejeans and Genuine Class, the latter of which was the best taking whisky drink I've had in a while. Got to witness Spanish coffee prep and hear about the black cod fish and chips (sounded luscious). Ambiance is classy and jazzy and reminded me of New Orleans with a sea breeze. Food is okay at best. Atmosphere is good. Service was decent. Don't like getting bait and switched with extra fees though. That makes me not want to come back as I'm sure it does others. I used to love this place, was a regular there. Few months ago they added a forced 21% surcharge "to avoid increasing prices". This is outrageous dishonesty in your pricing sheet and complete disrespect of your customers. As much as I love the food and love their service, I will not be coming back until they start being honest in their menu and properly include all surcharges in prices. read more

Gosh, what a shame to see the way this restaurant uses a service charge. When I opened the menu (after getting a drink), I saw that they have a 21% service charge where 100% goes to the restaurant. Are you supposed to tip on top of this? So, you're supposed to add 40%+ to the bill? I appreciate that restaurants in Seattle have needed to increase their prices in the wake of the new minimum wage. Zig Zag should do the honest thing and raise their prices and/or have an automatic gratuity. But, this approach is confusing at best and dishonest at worst. read more

Calling forward memories and experiences. The Nausicaa literally brought me back to Tokyo. The Bramble caressed me back into a warm southern summer breeze. I love this bar!!! Came here with two friends (walk-in) and were lucky enough to be seated at a booth in the back. Ambiance is amazing -- the music is classy and not too loud, and the lighting is soft. Definitely a great date spot. Drinks -- their menu has a great selection of unique cocktails. The drinks we got were well balanced (and strong). Our server recommended the racquet club, and it was fantastic! Even though it's very spirit forward, it went down smoothly. What a fun bar & restaurant hiding below Pike Place. We swung by to get some pre-dinner drinks before Pink Door and it really paired well. It hit the mark with swanky jazz club vibes. We received great service and were honestly disappointed we weren't staying for dinner as they have a pretty awesome menu. I highly recommend this dish. The Hamburgers are also decent with great flavors. The Overall Experience the cafe has a cute cocktail lounge vibe with red booths and some nights they have jazz playing. Prices are normal for Seattle, $16 cocktails , and the staff is friendly. I think they were a little over the top and they kept coming over to make sure we were doing ok. Such a cute spot right next to our Airbnb when I was in Seattle. They check for vaccination status so felt very safe in there. It's dimly lit and romantic vibes with comfortable seating. We ordered deviled eggs, I've never had it fried before but I was obsessed it was so good! Also had gnocchi and the risotto which were both so delicious and comforting. I constantly find myself coming back here because of the beautiful ambiance, cocktails and food. Our staff was very friendly and despite being in the middle of a busy friday we felt like we werent left alone waiting at all. I was a little hungry so we ordered a side of fries (which is not on a dinner menu, and only on late night menu but when we asked for it during dinner hours they were ok with it!) and the fried octopus frites. The octopus frites was a unique twist, it was basically like the japanese takoyaki but the batter is jalapeno cornbread. Unfortunately half of these didnt contain any octopus pieces. A short trip to Seattle and the first day we hit the Public Market, we decided to let the locals guide us through a quick progressive dinner. The guy at the beer place referred us to Half Shell, the guy Hslf Shell referred us to Zig Zag finding it wasn't easy. Had to find a way through the public market to a street, the address made no sense so we found a hall to an ally to some stairs. We Zigged and we Zagged and eventually we found it. What an amazing bar, a locals bar. Great ambiance and about the best bartender I've seen. I trusted him to make me a Sazerac, he killed it. 9/10 bartenders fail at that drink. Wow this place is fantastic from the food to drinks to the service and ambiance. The hostesses/servers were all wonderful and attentive even though they were crazy busy. They have an extensive wine and spirits list. We shared the fish and chips and they were scolding hot, fresh, crunchy breading and tender oozing juiciness in the inside. The breading has some togarashi but it's not too spicy, it's just enough to bring some additional subtle flavor. The fries and the dipping sauce were a bit more spicy but absolutely delicious and piping hot. Craft cocktails and wine are both excellent here. I'm more of a wine girl, but when I visit Zig Zag I tend to order at least one cocktail because they are so worth it. read more
