Zinc bar is my go-to secret jazz bar. During covid they kept up amazing service and churned out high quality cocktails. I recommend the New York float and the espresso martini for a nice night out. They still have outdoor seating but within the last year they opened up the indoor seating. If you are looking for an affordable (relatively) speakeasy, please hit up this bar because the drinks are supreme and the service is spectacular! read more

My friends and I sat down outside and were drinking martinis when a pedestrian began yelling. They came to our table and threw our glassware on the table, causing them to smash and glass to fly everywhere. There was glass in our hair and we were lucky we weren't hurt. The manager replaced our drink and then offered us a table at their jazz show later than night. When we came back after dinner, we were told we would have to pay for the table, despite what the manager had told us. The bouncer refused as well even though he saw us get attacked. Dishonest fcking scammers.. told us explicitly on the way in that there was a 30$ minimum on drinks (mentioned nothing about a cover charge) and at the end we got charged a cover after buying two poor quality drinks to cover the minimum.. staff were rude af and tried bullsh*tting us after we expressed our grievances. All of our group had foreign accents so they probably thought they were scamming tourists. Incredibly dishonest and the management were completely useless when it came to our concerns. This was anticlimactic. I put that first so that the bar knows immediately what your customers expect. I took my partner to Zinc Bar for what I thought would be a romantic and jazz-filled night out. It was a Saturday night and there was no jazz. The place was jam packed with other customers that seemed to be waiting for something to happen. When our waiter came along to take our drink order, we asked about the music and we were informed that live bands would be performing on Sunday. Oddly but my boyfriend didn't like this place while I enjoyed my time. So, Zinc Bar was a local venue for jazz music. To get in, we paid entrance fee- 20$. Interior of the place put me in the cozy mood. The whole place had dominant color of red and burgundy and I loved dimmed lights. My boyfriend complained about the place being dirty, and there was some true in his words. The tables were not wiped and the floors were messy; however, in the dark it was hard to notice it lol Another minus, the music bar didn't hold expensive alcohol such as Crowne Royal and some types of scotches. The place was definitely more casual than upscale. I still liked the place even my bf wanted to leave after 30 minutes being there. I would love to give the second chance to this place and suggesting to others to visit this place and make your own opinion. read more

Came with my musician friends where we sat at the bar right in front of the bartender. He was ignoring us for about 45 minutes talking to the waitress. The owner was nervously walking up and down the club and no one noticed we DON'T HAVE ANY DRINKS. Unbelievable.!!!!!! We figured it, it was because they saw us that we had instruments and decided to ignore us. Finally the bartender asked if we would like a drink and was very surprised when we said yeah. I don't usually leave yelp reviews or trash talk restaurants but this location is insulting. 16 dollars got us four ritz crackers and some lukewarm slices of cheddar cheese. I know I could have made the plate for around 50c because I literally have in my parent's kitchen before. Pizza was four dollars per slice, each of which was about half the size of your hand. The cherry on top of this overpriced sundae is that they do not allow you to split a bill, will not give you a paper receipt, and email you a bill that is not itemized... not something I'd normally complain about, except if the price of each item is astronomically fucking unreasonable We weren't there during live jazz. I'm sure it's good. I respect whatever musicians play there. But whoever runs this establishment is a grifter who picked New York City because they couldn't get away with this sort of outrageous price to quality discrepancy anywhere else. Fuck you. read more

Disgusting behavior by owner and waitress staff of accusing customers. Bouncer tells people a $30 cover charge is deducted from overall bill then they try to charge you at the end on top of this. The owner, who was clearly drunk, came and blamed us instead. We would be totally fine with the bill if they told us upfront. Visiting NY with my gf and went out of my way to visit the Zinc Bar with her father. We were welcomed with poor service, good drinks, a nice atmosphere- but her Dad, a longtime worker in Hospitality and former manager of the Gypsy Kings could not get past the poor service of our server, apparently the owner's son. He didn't serve the drink with a stirrer or napkin and was impersonal- and her dad expected an apology. The guy refused. Maybe when he gets a few years older he'll realize certain ppl you need to actually BE NICE to. Would I go again? Maybe- when there's music. It was an off Monday- and honestly, that kid should learn what hospitality means. We went here looking for a chill place to grab and drink and listen to jazz and it was an unpleasant experience. First the venue was hot and dank in the middle of December. It smelled musty. Second, when we sat the bar, it was wet and dirty and for the entire time we sat their, no bartender made even an attempt to wipe it down. We ordered drinks and the they tasted horrible and I was completely grossed out by the bartender who kept shaking liquor from his hands and fingers versus washing or wiping his hands. Disgusting. When I was seventeen, I knew I wanted to spend my free time in jazz bars, with lush curtains, and expensive cocktails. Zinc Bar does it for me everytime. It's a small bar, but the music is always good. The back is the performance space which you can pay a cover to get into, or you can sit in the front and listen and chat. It's perfect for an intimate date with yourself, or a significant other. All the drinks are named after jazz stars or singles. It's comforting. read more

He didn't bother to point out that only the entrance was $30, and that there was another drink minimum, but made it sound like everyone had to order at least $30. When we confronted the manager and the host they denied. Of course, this is a method that should work on tourists, and it's no less than stealing. If we had been told that only the entrance was $30 we would not have bothered to order so many things from the menu. When we asked to see the printed bill the waitress said she could not print it for us. Dishonest people, we left very disappointed with the experience. Came here last Friday for the jazz bar. Was a few shows on that night but we opted to go to the 11:30 p.m. show. When you enter there is first a bar area and if you're going to the Jazz section you will pay at the $20 cover here. The Jazz area is in the back section and is first come first serve with seating. We were expecting there to be a singer and something more upbeat but it was quite mellow. We only stayed there for about an hour because the music was the same. The menu for drinks was adequate nothing extraordinary. I did like this place but I will probably go somewhere else next time. read more

We were walking around Greenwich Village after dinner checking out the scene when suddenly we saw a line forming to go to this basement apt-like lounge on a strip full of bars and clubs. They had a sign that said Afro-Jazz inside (whatever the hell that means)...nice...sounds like it was worth checking out. Walked inside and it reminded me of our very own Green Mill here in Chicago. They had the bar over to the left hand side and it was "get in where you fit in" type seating. And of course the stage was straight ahead. There was a $10 cover if you came in after 9PM in which we walked in around 11PM. Smooth jazz filled our ears as we grooved along. Each member of the crew were from a different country which would explain the sound mixture of the tunes. Awesome spot and would definitely come back on the next NY visit. read more

Great bar, not crowded at all on a Saturday night when every other bar was packed as everyone was hiding from the polar vortex! If you sit at the bar, you can hear the live jazz, but still be able to hear your partner talking. If you do opt for the live jazz, there is a $20 cover. Drinks are standard. Cover is $20/person if you go for the music; we were there just for the front bar while we waited for Comedy Cellar, but you could still hear the band and it was lovely. Ambience is pretty cozy and intimate. Not sure the bartender was completely familiar with the wine menu because when I requested one of the reds, he replied, "Ah we're out of that, but can I get you any of the other whites?" Good for live music, but not for the front bar. The bouncer will immediately ask you for cover (it was $15 when we went), but just tell him you're staying at the bar. He'll advise you not to get too close to the curtain that separates the haves and the have-nots. But whatever, you can walk right up to it and watch/listen to the music anyway. Bar is tight, but the bartenders try their best. Nice guys too. There's also free self-coat check, which is a nice touch. Helps to alleviate the crowding.
