This cafe is a charming and cozy part of Zingerman's Ann Arbor kingdom! My friends and I stopped by to get drinks before hitting the nearby market, and really enjoyed everything we ordered. It has a dimly lit, homey feel, with shelves full of local goods and a case stuffed to the brim with pastries. There was plenty of seating and two water stations. We didn't get pastries since we were about to grab lunch, but we ordered the chocolate covered strawberry latte and the mocha latte with light whip, both iced. They both came out really quickly! The mocha latte was smooth and the roasted flavor paired perfectly with the semisweet chocolate syrup. My favorite, however, was the chocolate covered strawberry latte. This was not too sweet, but had a stronger strawberry taste than I have ever had in a coffee drink. I got this latte with oat milk and it was still creamy and rich. That's some good coffee! All the excellent components combined to make a drink greater than the sum of their parts, and I GUZZLED this drink with an uncharacteristic quickness. I went with the Lady Grey (earl grey tea with home made vanilla) drink and a cinnamon raisin bagel with plain cream cheese. The Lady Grey was sooo good! An old spot I've missed ever since moving to California. Basically, this is where you eat and get coffee (or ice cream) after shopping next door at the deli or ordering a sandwich. Additionally, it's an excellent early morning spot for coffee, espresso drinks, bagels, or pastries. In warmer weather the outside is open, including the front porch. Otherwise, it's grab a table downstairs or go up to the second floor. In short, the best bagels include the sea salt and plain. For whatever reason they had to discontinue the egg bagels, but try a currant scone of cinnamon sweet roll instead. Pricy? Yes, but the quality of ingredients is what makes it worthwhile. I found a new favorite latte, the golden one with turmeric and other things. Otherwise, house drip pour is a great go-to. All-in-all, it was nice to get reacquainted, however briefly. read more

A fantastic café! Stopped in to get some coffee and immediately loved the vibe of this spot. The design of the store is so cute. There's tons of sweets, gelato, and more. It was a packed day but the service was quick and the staff were friendly and helpful. I got an iced latte with lavender syrup. Their prices were reasonable and the latte was delicious. Loved this place! We were looking for good coffee mid-afternoon on a Friday and Zngerman's did not disappoint. Plenty of drink options; they normally have a lot of pastries but were on the low side when we got there. Plenty of options for seating, some even near outlets to recharge your computer. I've been in a few times in the past year or so for different things - a latte, some gelato, etc. They also sell chocolate, tea, merch, and more. They specialize in fancy hot chocolates, which I'd love to try sometime. The employees are all pretty friendly and helpful. We got some gelato recently which was tasty, but I prefer Blank Slate Creamery. Parking in this whole area is a little limited so you may have to walk a bit. Both were amazing, and we loved the dirty sheed so much we came back for a second round - got them iced - after our deli and bakery experience! Zingerman's is a staple treat when we come to Ann Arbor! The Dirty Sheed is probably the best coffee in the whole dang world. They offer several speciality cocoa drinks in the winter, affagatos with multiple gelato choices, iced teas and European candies galore (check out their original Swedish fish!). We'll pick up a bag of their fresh whole coffee every now and then too. Plenty of seating indoors or out. The style is very cozy, good for getting some work done or a date for two. Even on busy game days the service is top tier and as quick as they can manage, you can tell the employees like working here. You're in a line and expected to know what to order despite the menu and pastry case being on the other side. Their small drinks come with two shots of espresso and large come with 4 shots. Unless you want to be next to a bathroom all day, you have to get a small iced drink which is in a tiny hot coffee cup where the ice takes most of the room. Very odd and would never recommend for coffee. Cinnamon roll tastes like the old McDonalds cinnamon roll which I enjoyed for nostalgia. I got the last lemon cloud which I saved for later. I've heard great things about Zingerman's so stopped by for a bagel sandwich on my way out of town. When I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and lox the lady working made my order seem very difficult. Asking the lady in the back if she'd go the "extra mile" and assemble the bagel sandwich for me. Then asking if I'd want it toasted because it would be an even longer wait and was inconvenient for the lady working in the back. The bagel sandwich itself was very good and so was the inside seating area. If I'm paying for a sandwich and tipping, I'd expect it to be put together and toasted and that lady made the order seem so awful for the people making the sandwich in the back. Maybe people don't often ask for bagel sandwiches but she had a rude attitude for no reason. read more

Starting with their coffee products, they serve all the coffee based drinks one expects to see at a high end Barista shop using their excellent signature Coffee. These drinks are well made and very tasty with prices in line at what you would expect to see at other higher end Barista shops. Relative to the dessert side of this business, they have broad selection of in house made pastries, bagels, scones, muffins, danishes, pies, cakes, specialty chocolates sold by the piece and a wide range of of boutique chocolate bars to choose from. The list of products is actually much larger than this where there are plenty of yummy options to choose from to soothe almost any sweet tooth. Aside from the desserts and coffee drinks, This shop also offers a nice selection of specialty boxed teas, Zingermans bean coffee by the bag, and some simple pre made baguette sandwiches that use Zingermans in house bread. The thing I like most about this business is it offers a quick alternative to get a quick bite to eat when you are on the run and don't have time to wait for one of Zingerman;s famous Deli sandwiches next door which I actually did on this day on my way over to the UM Hospital. Relative to the business it self, it has a very informal casual feel to it, with plenty of inside tables where it is clearly a favorite hang out spot for students and residents alike to meet up for a drink and dessert while enjoying a pleasant conversation with your friends or getting some studying in for school. I had a long wait for my sandwich at Zingerman's Deli so I went next door to this lovely cafe and chocolate shop. I love chocolate so this was the right place for me! They have a wonderful hot chocolate menu. I thoroughly enjoyed my Chocolate Moderne Kama Sutra, which has coconut, cardamom and clove in it. So delicious! I also tried the Spanish drinking chocolate, which is so thick it requires a spoon! Very rich and decadent. I loved everything here! Plenty of seating. Each Zingerman's location has a little bit of a twist or something special 'bout it. For me, it's their Cafe de Olla (inspired by a Mexican coffee drink featuring Jo Snow syrup [cinnamon, brown sugar, cloves, molasses and a splash of orange], espresso & Calder Dairy milk). The orange is SO nice along with all the comforting spices. It drank a bit like cuban coffee meets mexican hot chocolate to me -- a bit on the sweeter side but a VERY nice treat. I drank it in record time. I was actually looking for another holiday beverage (available at the Coffee Shop location). Unfortunately they did not have it, but in usual Zingerman's fashion, they gave a fantastic suggestion. They also have breakfast burritos at Next Door! First glance, it was super "hip" looking and loved the open space to do work or meet up with friends! Got a cortado which didn't have any latte art but that's fine. I'm all about the taste. However, the drink was a bit boring for me - espresso didn't really have much flavor or after taste but at least it wasn't burnt. Also a single shot cortado is only $2.25 and a double is $3! I was in the mood for a croissant and went the savory route with proscuitto and parm. I appreciate how the chai was made with loose tea. I was very satisfied with the puffy crispy offering. As a newbie at this location, it was a little confusing with the side by side house-like buildings. Place: I am really into finding new cafe spots because I personally like studying cafes. This place was really spacious and had really nice decorations. Not a lot of people where there so it was really nice and quiet. Service: The service was really good. It is a lot of self serve and they have a good organization system. Food/price: The food I got was a cafe scone with hot chocolate. It was really good and it had a spicy flavor to it. The price was not as bad and worth going again. My friend got a bagel and she said it was pretty good! Audience: Definitely young adults and college students come here to study and relax. It is a hidden gem and a lot of people come in and out. I brought these cupcakes to a friend's house for a dinner party, so I only tried the pink lemonade cupcake and the blackberry buttercream. Normally, I'm not really one for lemon flavored things because I'm not a huge fan on tartness, but the pink lemonade cupcake exceeded my expectations. I also really enjoyed the blackberry buttercream, and the blackberry on top was really big and ripe, instead of just placing any old blackberry on top. This place serves coffee, cakes, pastries, and gelato. I tried the gelato and the pecan pie here. Both were delicious. I'm a born and raised southerner so I've had all kinds of pecan pie; it's at every potluck, party, social gathering I attend. Trust me when I say the pecan pie here is really good. From the flakey crust to the not-to-sweet filling to the crunchy pecans on top, this pie does everything perfectly. It is expensive though. A whole pie cost us almost $30. We wanted to buy a whole cake but that was almost $80 which is a little ridiculous no matter how great its ingredients are. Like at the delicatessen, the Zingerman's brand automatically jacks up its prices due to its name. A slice every now and then is okay but I do not see myself repeatedly blowing money on the cakes and pastries here. read more

I stumbled upon this place after a doctors appointment one day and was first wandered into the farmers market they had set up, then found this cute café. I didn't realize there was another Zingerman's aside from the other location I've been to a few times. Walking inside, you're greeted by cases of sweet treats - gelato, chocolates, pies, muffins, scones... and the menu offers lots of drinks to wash them all down. My favorite is the vanilla cold brew! They package it in a bottle so you can take some home. There's enough in the bottle for two cups, and with the amount of caffeine you might only want to drink half! Particularly the espresso drinks, which have been absolutely terrible the last few times I've been here. I don't think they bother to train their baristas well anymore. Cinnamon buns, scones, croissants, muffins, and other delightful breakfasty things. Cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pies and specialty desserts like the Paris Brest cream puff, or the Hungarian dobos torte for post sandwich treats (get slices or full cakes or pies too!). Also 5 different types of hot chocolate, special monthly beverages (egg creams, malts, etc), gelato, a chocolate counter with amazing locally made truffles, and tons of delicious prepackaged chocolate bars, baking supplies, candy and more (including the amazing Zingerman's made candy like the Zzang bars and peanut brittle). It can be a tight fit in there since there's SO much stuffed into the space along with seating but for me it's worth the discomfort for so many delicious sweet treats. Well, I always do Zingerman's when in Ann Arbor and this was no exception. The Next Door location is their coffee shop and dessert and pastry service, right next door of course to the big deli. Though I often stop into this side for a morning treat, I guess I have never seen it to review separately on Yelp before. Their decaf espresso drinks seem to get better each time, I ALWAYS get a lemon cloud pastry, tart and fluffy and not heavy or too sweet. We've had gelato here, though a bit on the sweet side for me but my companions always seem to love it. The space is quaint as with all things Zingerman, though it's a hike upstairs to the restrooms. Not very surprising that Zingermans fully deserve my 5 star review. They really know what they're doing and do it better than most! I've been coming to the deli for 20 years, been going to the roadhouse for 10 years and have been obsessed with treats from Zingermans next door for about 6 years. They have me hooked ! I fully recommend any of the pastries, but my favorites are the bostock, the rugelach and the gluten free cookies. The only place I've ever had or saw a bostock, I love this pillowy treat! The pies are outstanding and the gelato is such a special treat, I always need to try the seasonal flavors.
